00:00 Dak Prescott Dallas Cowboys contract is always in the news.
00:03 We have a few updates, but is this contract negotiation actually holding
00:07 the Cowboys back this offseason?
00:09 >> I'm disappointed that Cowboys COO Steven Jones said no, that doesn't.
00:15 Of course it does.
00:16 It's $59.4 million.
00:19 If he had a new contract and a contract extension, that number would be reduced.
00:23 There'd be $20 more million worth of room.
00:25 So you're saying had Dak agreed to an extension yesterday at an affordable price
00:32 that you would agree, and you said, yeah, we'll do that.
00:35 And it would give you $20 million worth of cap room,
00:37 that that wouldn't influence your spending?
00:39 Of course it would influence your spending.
00:41 That's ridiculous.
00:42 >> Let me debate.
00:42 >> I think Steven is just trying to be very homogenized
00:49 when it comes to Dak Prescott talk.
00:50 I think he's trying not to say anything outrageous,
00:53 trying to not stir up a hornet's nest.
00:54 >> Which we can understand.
00:55 >> Totally fine.
00:56 Totally get that.
00:57 But the Cowboy audience, which right now is balancing somewhere
01:01 between apathetic and angry, I think they're looking at that going,
01:05 that's about as true as all in.
01:08 Of course the Dak Prescott bloated contract, the 59.4,
01:15 which just got reduced by the way, in a positive negotiation.
01:18 They did have to negotiate that.
01:19 Got it down to, they got $4 million worth of room.
01:23 Sidebar by the way, he didn't, that's not a sacrifice.
01:26 This is such a widely misunderstood.
01:28 I mean everybody at the very top
01:30 of the NFL media food chain writes this.
01:32 What a great guy so and so is.
01:34 He gave up money for his, no he didn't.
01:37 They take base and they move it to bonus.
01:39 Or they take this kind of bonus and move to that bonus.
01:41 Dak is still getting that $5 million.
01:44 >> Just a different pocket.
01:45 >> Just going into a different pocket.
01:46 But they did have to negotiate the void years to throw that money into.
01:50 So they get a little bit of room to do a little bit of business.
01:54 The day that they do Dak's extension, if that day comes,
01:58 they will have $20 million worth of room.
02:00 And the idea that they wouldn't do something with it is preposterous.
02:03 Unless our theory that this is a play hard, try to win this year,
02:09 then blow it up, rebuild in 2025.
02:12 If that's the case, as we know, money,
02:14 cap money from one year carries over to another.
02:17 So if you didn't wanna spend that money this year, which would be 2024 suicidal,
02:24 but very helpful for 2025, I suppose you'd be looking at $100 million
02:29 with a cap room in 2025.
02:31 Of course, then the Cowboys would have to do the highly unusual move
02:35 of actually spending it.
