00:00Welcome back to TMZ Sports, Mike and Mojo.
00:07Mojo, there are a ton of storylines.
00:10Of course, we've talked about
00:11the Chiefs and Ravens game last night.
00:13Amazing, amazing game, Taylor Swift.
00:15We've done all that. Not the only big game
00:17going down this week.
00:19We've also got, and it's not just a premier matchup,
00:23but it's also Tom Brady's first game
00:25behind a Fox Sports microphone.
00:28Of course, we've got the Dallas Cowboys
00:31traveling to Cleveland.
00:33America's game of the week, 425 Eastern on Fox on Sunday.
00:38Again, Tom behind the mic.
00:40And Cowboys-Browns, that is a great, great matchup.
00:44Now, one of the big questions, not just for Sunday,
00:48but this entire season,
00:50will be about the future Mojo of Dak Prescott,
00:54the Cowboys star quarterback.
00:57Of course, last year, he finished second in MVP voting.
01:02He had signed a few years back
01:04a four-year $160 million extension.
01:07That lucrative contract is just about up, final year.
01:11So, perhaps for the last time,
01:15before the Cowboys get on that plane
01:17and travel to Cleveland,
01:19Dak Prescott met with the media
01:21where he was asked about his contract, Mojo.
01:25The only question is, what did he mean?
01:28So, that means it's time for a little bit of what he said,
01:33what he means.
01:34Dak Prescott.
01:35I've never played the game for that.
01:37I play the game for the pure love,
01:38for the guys in that locker room.
01:41Yes, this game has always brought me something
01:43that not a lot of things in life do.
01:46That's the type of peace that it does,
01:48is being out there in between the lines
01:49with people that you share a brotherhood,
01:52you share a brotherhood with.
01:54Yeah, it's something that's just special
01:56about this game of football,
01:57and we're just blessed that that money comes with it,
01:59and I'm in the position that I'm in,
02:00that we can be having these conversations,
02:01but that doesn't motivate me.
02:05Doesn't motivate him.
02:06The largest eye roll ever.
02:08Yeah, largest eye roll ever.
02:10This is one of the best what he said, what he means.
02:12I think we'll ever have the opportunity to break down
02:16because it was so ridiculous.
02:18I mean, look, he is saying everything
02:21that he should be saying, right?
02:23We're in the middle of the season.
02:24It's NFL week one, second in the MVP standings.
02:28We got eliminated early last year.
02:30I believe that was to the best football team in the NFL.
02:34If I recall back, those Packers out of green Bay,
02:38my Packers out of green Bay.
02:40But yeah, you know, you gotta get back to work.
02:42You gotta do what you do.
02:42You can't be worried about your contract
02:44at this stage of the game.
02:46That's why you have management.
02:47That's why you have an agent and representation.
02:50These guys that go and they handle that for you.
02:52Your job is to play the game.
02:54Now, sometimes those two worlds collide.
02:57If you're, you know, approaching a contract year,
03:00if your contract is about to expire
03:03at the start of the season,
03:04then maybe now you need to pull out and play hard to get.
03:07But this isn't one of those situations at this point.
03:10You just go out there and you play the game.
03:12But it's just the interview that makes us roll our eyes.
03:14Right?
03:15Like to act like the money
03:16is not even a relevant factor whatsoever.
03:21It is totally meaningless.
03:23I mean, at the end of the day,
03:25he could retire right now and financially,
03:27he's going to be set for the rest of his life.
03:29He'll never have to work a day again.
03:30So there's always that,
03:32but to act like this contract doesn't matter.
03:34Sometimes it isn't even about the money.
03:36It's about where it puts you status wise, you know,
03:39relative to the rest of the quarterbacks in the league.
03:42And that is an extremely important thing
03:44when you're starting to break down the legacy
03:46and things to that extent.
03:47So what he said, what he means,
03:50I don't think we need to listen to a single thing
03:53that he actually said.
03:54Yeah, I agree, Mojo.
03:55And you're right.
03:57If you go back to when he signed that deal for, again,
04:00four years, 160, heading into the 2021 season there,
04:03he was one of the highest paid quarterbacks,
04:05but right now he is not.
04:07These contracts, you know how it goes.
04:09They don't get smaller.
04:10They get bigger and bigger and bigger.
04:11Right now, you've got Joe Burrow,
04:13who signed recently a $275 million deal.
04:16Much of that, 219 mil of that is guaranteed.
04:19That puts Joe at about 55 mil a year.
04:22You've got Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence,
04:24also making 55 mil a year on average.
04:27Tua just signed a fat new deal.
04:29He's getting paid over 53 a mil a season.
04:32Jared Goff, same thing.
04:33Herbert, Lamar Jackson, they're making over 50 mil, Mojo.
04:36So it's clear Dak Prescott believes
04:39he's one of the best quarterbacks,
04:40believes he's one of the elite quarterbacks in this league.
04:42And despite what he says,
04:44that's how he obviously wants to get paid.
04:46If he didn't want that big contract,
04:47I promise you Jerry Jones would give him something
04:49that was smaller to lock up a guy again
04:52who finished second in the MVP voting last year.
04:54I think this comes down to here.
04:56The reality is, if the Cowboys,
04:58who have not reached the NFC Championship game since 1995,
05:01they've got a ton of talent.
05:03If they do not make a deep run this season,
05:06and that might mean getting to the Super Bowl,
05:08you're gonna see a very different Cowboys team next year
05:12on the sidelines and on the field.
