Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys Come Up Just Short At Philadelphia Eagles, 28-23
Transcript
00:00 The Dallas Cowboys desperately needed a win in NFL week nine Sunday at
00:05 the Philadelphia Eagles, not just because of the standings,
00:09 not because to some degree the season is on the line,
00:13 certainly as it relates to winning the NFC East.
00:16 But maybe just to prove their legitimacy against other really good teams,
00:21 they did not do that.
00:22 Dallas comes into this thing with a five and two record.
00:25 The Eagles come into this thing with a seven and one record.
00:28 And both teams exit with a little more understanding of where the NFC East is
00:32 gonna go right now.
00:33 The Cowboys come oh so close to victory, but
00:36 come up just short in a bitter 28 to 23 loss at the link.
00:41 I'm Mike Fisher reporting on Cowboys and Eagles.
00:44 If the field at the link is just a little bit wider, or
00:48 just a little bit shorter, the outcome might have been different.
00:53 The Cowboys with Dak Prescott, who had a terrific game,
00:56 stepping out of bounds on a two point conversion try late.
00:59 With a near touchdown throw that was first ruled a touchdown right at the one
01:04 inch line to the rookie Luke Schoonmaker that was later reversed.
01:09 Arguments and controversy and debate will rage on.
01:15 The Cowboys, however, do come away from this recognizing that, and
01:20 have to come away recognizing that while they might be good enough on paper,
01:26 that they might have faith in themselves when it comes to playing against
01:29 Philadelphia.
01:30 There will be a rematch, of course, in the coming weeks.
01:33 The standings do not lie.
01:35 Cowboys took a 17 to 14 lead at halftime here, but
01:38 the third quarter was disastrous.
01:40 The Eagles, to their credit, reel off 14 unanswered points.
01:46 Jalen Hurts is limping around here, but again, Eagles fans recognize this.
01:50 This is a good player and a tough player.
01:54 Cowboys did not go away easily though, even though the Eagles were good and tough.
01:59 They didn't get the fourth and goal conversion at the Eagles one yard line,
02:02 as we mentioned.
02:03 Cowboys come right back, score a touchdown.
02:06 There is a later failure and then late in the game, they get the ball again.
02:10 And they get another crack at it.
02:12 And then penalties, which were a major factor in this game for
02:15 both teams, caused the Cowboys to get knocked back.
02:19 In the end, Dak Prescott, 29 of 44, 375 yards,
02:23 3 touchdowns, no turnovers, turning in one of his better performances.
02:28 CeeDee Lamb, terrific, 11 catches, 192 yards.
02:32 Ferguson, Tolbert, Turpin, each scored a receiving touchdown.
02:37 But what the Eagles did do with great effectiveness was knock Dak Prescott
02:43 around and Terrence Steele, the offensive lineman, had his particular struggles.
02:47 They did allow Dak to be sacked five times.
02:51 The Cowboys were held by the Eagles to just 3.5 yards per carry.
02:55 And Jalen Hurts, 17 of 23, no big numbers,
03:02 just had 270 yards passing and two touchdowns.
03:06 But 36 yards, another score on the ground as he limped around.
03:11 Kenneth Gamewell got a score on the ground as well.
03:13 AJ Brown, Devontae Smith got big plays in the air.
03:18 The Cowboys did control AJ Brown a little bit.
03:20 He didn't get his 100 yards, he didn't get his 125, but he and
03:24 the Eagles do get their win.
03:26 A gut-wrenching loss for the Cowboys and for
03:29 the Eagles, a chance for a little elbow room as they are now the heavy favorite
03:35 to win the NFC East on Cowboys and Eagles.
03:38 Fish out.
