Cowboys QB Dak Prescott spoke to the local media today about his ankle, which was seen in a cast on a recent vacation.

00:00To start the show, though, let's hear from Dak Prescott talking about him being in that
00:19walking boot there on the vacay.
00:21Here's Dak.
00:22Yeah, I'm great.
00:23Honestly, I'm getting older.
00:24It's the same ankle, right, that I snapped and had a nasty surgery on four years ago.
00:28So yeah, a couple of hard days of training, and you know, you get a little sore, and then
00:33you're going on a fishing trip, and you want to protect it and make sure that things don't
00:36get worse.
00:37So literally, it is absolutely nothing.
00:39That's why I suppose that people are reaching, trying to make things that they aren't.
00:43I'm getting older, have to take care of my body, have to be smart.
00:46And if I can take precautions and lessening something by putting on a boot, I'm going
00:50to do it.
00:51And so sorry that it caused such a whirlwind.
00:55Yeah, it's pretty much exactly what we thought, right?
00:58I mean, that confirms your report, Brian, soreness.
01:02And it makes sense.
01:03I mean, I think this is probably something that we talked about yesterday he's going
01:06to be dealing with.
01:07When you have an injury like that and a surgery like that, at some point there's going to
01:11be a little bit of soreness, and you just try and mitigate that as best as possible.
01:15Yeah, the fact we know he's going to work hard, he's going to overdo it in a lot of
01:19ways.
01:20He's going to go throw it tight in schools and whatever schools he can go be a part of.
01:24And he's going to invite guys to come to the Dak yard and throw with him there.
01:28He's going to do a lot of dropbacks.
01:29He's going to do bag drills.
01:30And he's right.
01:31He's getting older.
01:32And, you know, it's funny that he brought up the fishing part.
01:35If you've ever done deep sea fishing, you're on your feet all day and your feet get tired
01:40and you stand up and maybe sit down in the, you know, they have the captain's area where
01:45you can maybe sit down.
01:46But when you're when you're hunting big fish, you're standing up all day.
01:51And so he was probably thinking like, all right, this thing's already sore a little
01:54bit.
01:55I'm going to be on a boat for about eight to 10 hours fishing.
01:59So maybe I need to kind of get a little preventive medicine here.
02:03But yeah, he's right.
02:04He's getting older.
02:05He works really hard.
02:06And that thing is, as you say, a lot of times, Dawson, it's not the same.
02:11It's not the same.
02:12I mean, it's amazing that he's come back to the extent he has.
02:14Yeah.
02:15Yeah.
02:16You know, because that injury effectively ended.
02:17Joe Theismann.
02:18Alex Smith was never close to the same.
02:19Never.
02:20You know, I would say my foot and ankle, I didn't snap it like that, but required for
02:24reconstruction.
02:26He's never been better than about sixty five percent.
02:28Dak looks like he's about 90 percent of the athlete that he was.
02:31And you know, every now and then, as Brian pointed out, maybe a little over training
02:35going on a little bit.
02:36He does have a lot.
02:37He's got to kind of save him from himself.
02:39Right.
02:40He's kind of one of those guys that constantly is going to be working.
02:42You know, when we when we get to camp, you'll see like Britt Brown and Jim Maurer, the trainers
02:48work with these guys like they never have to worry about Dak.
02:51It's like Dak's putting in all the work.
02:53He's going with the extra mild.
02:55He makes sure he's getting back and ready to rock.
02:57Well, it got to the point, too, where we had the report.
02:59I think Mike Bassett was one of the first on it about the second surgery.
03:03When that all went down, there was a second surgery.
03:06And I'm probably going to get a text message here in the next couple of minutes talking
03:10about this.
03:11But Britt and Dak work extremely hard when they're together and they push each other.
03:17And, you know, you probably had a little bit of a setback there and they had to go correct
03:22some clean something up.
03:24And hopefully got it back as good as new.
03:26But he's he's he's right.
03:27He's getting older and it's probably doesn't have the flexibility that it once had.
03:32And there's things that the soreness that he deals with and, you know, and hopefully
03:37he doesn't, you know, being on a fishing boat ain't going to hurt him and doing other things
03:41as long as we get to camp and we're not missing days because of, you know, the well, so we
03:48have ankle sores.
03:49Hey, we're all standing out there when all of a sudden we had the thing going on in the
03:52shoulder.
03:53And everybody's like, oh, it's just a common kind of a kind of an injury.
03:56It's baseball pitchers have this and that and other.
03:58And then, you know, and then now you're figuring out that, like, well, they're really kind
04:02of concerned about this thing.
04:03This wasn't something just that, you know, is this kind of comes and goes.
04:07This was something that they were honestly concerned about.
04:09So as long as Dak feels good about it, the staff feels good about it.
04:13We'll see what happens here in a couple of weeks.
04:15He also talked, you know, contract and said there's been talks, but the money is going
04:19to take care of itself.
04:20We'll talk about that a little bit more later on.
04:22But he does not sound at all like a guy who is concerned at all about his contract future
04:28with this team.
04:29He shouldn't be.
04:30He shouldn't be.
04:31Well, I'm saying he shouldn't be concerned about his contract future.
04:36Maybe not with the doubt.
04:37I mean, maybe, you know, I think that there's going to be somebody out there that if it
04:41gets to free agency and they look at their quarterback situation and feel like this guy
04:46can do this for us and he is worth the money.
04:50Yes.
04:51He, I think that he is at peace with his situation.
04:54I do.
04:55I mean, you know, he's seen what's the Cowboys have done, that he saw the number that his
05:00agent did on him the first time, got him back to the table quicker than we all even believed.
05:06You know, I wouldn't be concerned either.
05:09There's a history here.
05:10They, they are going to find ways to all of a sudden it's like, okay, we got to get this
05:14done.
05:15Boom.
05:16They get it done.
05:17But you know, maybe for Dak, it's maybe it's not here, but I don't think he's concerned.
05:21Overall, I think he's like, hey, if it's here, great.
05:24If it's not here, I'll get paid somewhere.
05:26Yeah.
05:27The way that he says it, you know, just that the money is always taken care of itself.
05:30I just feel like maybe he, he, you know, he put off the feeling to me anyway, that it's
05:35kind of a foregone conclusion that a deal is going to get done one way or another.
05:39It's interesting though, because as you mentioned, if he does get to free agency, the offer is
05:43going to be so substantial from a, from another perspective team.
05:48The Cowboys, the thing that we have to look at is Dak does a really good job with his
05:54side hustles, you know, the sleep numbers and the yogurt and all the other things that
06:00he does business.
06:02Will he have those same opportunities doing it when he, and that's why I wouldn't want
06:06to leave.
06:07I don't want to, I don't want to go to a different city, but my marketability is different.
06:11His wife, his wife is a, is a Florida.
06:14Her whole family's in Florida there did the, if the Buccaneers call all of a sudden the
06:18Buccaneers say, Hey, you know, we want you to come down Tampa, maybe Miami, but that's,
06:23but that New Orleans car doesn't work out this year.
06:26Do I want to go back to Louisiana?
06:27There could be a site that I, you know, there could be a time here where Dak Prescott is
06:32like, Oh, this is all BS.
06:35Every day I wake up, I turn on the TV.
06:37They're talking about me throwing interceptions.
06:40They're talking about national shows.
06:42He goes, he's probably thinking if I'm not the, if I'm not the quarterback of the Dallas
06:46Cowboys, do I, do I get all, you want, no, you, you, you get a lot less pressure, a lot
06:51less criticism, but less opportunity as well.
06:53Francis come out gangbusters with.
