Dak Prescott has had a down season by his standards so far in 2024, and that mediocre play reared its ugly head in the Cowboys' loss to the 49ers. Broaddus breaks down the tape on the QB and what else went wrong during the loss in Santa Clara.

00:00Film takeaways from watching the film this morning, I'll start with the interceptions
00:19if I could with Dak and I mentioned about Dak's footwork and I think his footwork played
00:24in the factor of the first interception he had.
00:26I know that we all think about that Steele got beat inside by Bosa on that particular
00:32play, but there's a couple of things about this that I want to really talk about though.
00:39The scheme calls for Steele to single block Bosa who sets up to the outside and I felt
00:46like that Steele was in pretty good shape.
00:48If Bosa stays wide on him, he's going to be just fine.
00:52He'll just kind of carry them, hold him there, and then they'll have the opportunity to
00:56get the ball down the field.
00:58This is where they get into a little trouble with Bosa.
01:01Once Bosa goes inside, Steele can't handle that move.
01:05And we've seen that before with Steele.
01:07He has trouble sometimes with the inside move.
01:10This is where maybe the lack of Cook playing for you might have hurt you because they needed
01:18a hero block there and they didn't get a hero block.
01:21What I mean when I say a hero block is that he was set to that side of the formation so
01:27he was looking inside for any pickup and then if his guy doesn't come, then he can go out
01:34into the route.
01:35Which is what he did.
01:36Yeah.
01:37They needed a hero block.
01:38Use the peripherals.
01:40We've seen it before with guys like Zeke, Dowdle, or even Deuce Vaughn this year when
01:49all of a sudden you're there, be a football player.
01:52And Cook is set up and he has an opportunity to help Steele with Bosa on that.
02:00They don't get the hero block there.
02:02If they get that block, they have an opportunity.
02:04Okay.
02:05The problem I mentioned with Dak's footwork on this, when he's dropping back, instead
02:09of dropping straight back, he drops back to his right.
02:14So he's dropping back in a way that it's carrying him towards Bosa.
02:20So instead of staying straight back in the pocket, his footwork carries him to the right.
02:26So he's angling right coming out from receiving the ball there.
02:31So if he goes straight back, he has probably a better opportunity to step forward.
02:37That ball was all arm.
02:39His feet...
02:40He left his feet.
02:41His feet, everything was so bad.
02:44He was so wide open on the throw that he could not get anything on the football.
