The Dallas Cowboys (13-6) fell to the San Francisco 49’ers (15-4) 19-12 in the second round of the playoffs. With this loss the Dallas Cowboys season has come to an end and the 49’ers will head to the NFC Championship game to take on the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday. The winner of that game will go to the Super Bowl in Arizona.

The dagger that seemed to be an issue all season seemed to be the same issue tonight for the Cowboys, Dak Prescott interception. Prescott threw two interceptions that set the 49’ers up in great field position. The second issue was kicker Brett Maher going into a funk late in the season after having a tremendous season for the Cowboys. He missed an extra point that made it number five for Maher in the postseason.

“Just disappointment,” Prescott said. “Defense gave us an opportunity to win this game. They played hard against a really, really good offense, a really good team. For us to only put up the points that we did, that’s unacceptable. It starts with me. I’ve got to be better. There’s no other way to sugarcoat it.”

“Just two throws that …you can’t have in the playoffs. You can’t have them when you’re trying to beat a team like that. You can’t have it on the road. There’s no excuses for that. Those two are 100% on me.” Prescott stated after the game.

Prescott finished the night 23-of-37 for 206 total yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

CeeDee Lamb finished the night leading in receiving with 10 catches for 117 total yards.

The 49’ers took a three-point lead entering the half. The blow to Dallas came in late in the third quarter when the game was tied at nine. San Francisco’s QB Purdy ran a bootleg that Dallas covered perfectly. Purdy read the defense and hit Kittle to improvise and turn upfield resulting in a touchdown for the 49’ers. San Francisco took a 16-9 lead.

The Cowboys took a big blow after Tony Pollard left the game with a left ankle injury. It was told after the game that Pollard suffered a fractured left fibula that will require surgery. Normally those require a three-month recovery process.
