00:00 I eat in bed, yeah, I do.
00:02 My mom taught me better, but you do your own thing.
00:06 Hey, my name is DeJuan Jones,
00:07 and I'm here to talk about how my diet impacts my training.
00:10 (upbeat music)
00:12 The philosophy behind my diet,
00:21 is just to have lots of veggies,
00:23 big broccoli and spinach.
00:26 I'm definitely a big spinach guy.
00:27 I would say high on protein too,
00:29 lean protein at that, so chicken, grilled shrimp.
00:32 My daily schedule for my diet,
00:34 I wake up, get to the facility normally,
00:36 I give me about two eggs or three eggs,
00:39 turkey bacon, probably a little bit of wheat toast.
00:41 During the football season,
00:42 we're doing hard training in the morning,
00:44 whether it's lifting, and then afternoon time,
00:47 we're going to be on the field, hitting and banging.
00:50 The next step after practice,
00:52 you're most likely starving,
00:54 and so I feel like I kind of fill myself up
00:57 a little bit more.
00:58 I normally go with a Caesar salad
00:59 with a little bit of ranch.
01:01 I go with a bison burger,
01:02 you know, it kind of is not the same as a beef patty.
01:05 It takes off, like I said,
01:07 calories off your diet,
01:09 and so it definitely helps out a lot.
01:11 Dinner, I normally wrap up with a grilled chicken,
01:13 mashed potatoes and broccoli, half the time.
01:15 You know, it's like one of my go-tos.
01:17 My pre-workout foods, I try to eat some pretzels,
01:20 you know, that has a little bit of carbs in there,
01:21 so it gets my body started.
01:23 I know everybody's different,
01:25 but for sure it works out for me.
01:26 And then after, I normally just do a shake.
01:28 I feel like I kind of get too full before lunch,
01:30 so I definitely just do a shake,
01:32 you know, after practice or after lift,
01:34 you know, just to make sure, you know,
01:36 I'm getting the protein
01:37 and just getting everything back
01:38 that I lost while working out.
01:39 All right, it's time for some rapid fire questions.
01:42 Do I count my macros?
01:43 I try to, you know, you're supposed to eat around,
01:46 for me, it's like 2,500 to 3,000 calories,
01:49 and so I definitely try to make sure
01:51 I'm accumulating them every day
01:52 until, you know, how much I need this day and that day,
01:55 because, you know, sometimes, you know,
01:57 my appetite's kind of different
01:58 depending on how my day is.
02:00 My favorite carb, for sure,
02:02 it'd have to be one of my favorite foods is french fries,
02:04 and so, you know, it kind of definitely plays a hurt
02:08 in my diet.
02:09 For sure, breakfast, you know, it's my favorite meal,
02:12 so, you know, it's the easiest thing to make.
02:14 If I did my pizza crust to anything,
02:16 it'd have to be cheese or marinara.
02:18 I feel like you can't go wrong with either one.
02:22 Do I eat in bed?
02:23 Yeah, I do, you know.
02:25 I'm a big guy, you know, I'm not afraid
02:26 to keep going back and forth from where I'm at.
02:28 My mom taught me better, but, you know,
02:30 you do your own thing.
02:31 My dream taco, I think, is just normal burrito tacos,
02:36 you know, it's pretty good.
02:37 I would just say, disguising the protein, in my opinion.
02:41 You know, sometimes, it gets just a little greedy,
02:43 and, you know, once you mix it up well,
02:45 I think it really helps start to shake a lot.
02:47 I just want to say, just work hard,
02:49 just stay dedicated to whatever you're doing.
02:51 Everything's not gonna be all right sometimes,
02:53 but, you know, it's gonna be all right half the time,
02:55 but you know, it's gonna work out there.
