Dal / Varan is basic food which is served throughout country. Phodnicha Varan is a traditional dal recipe made in Maharashtra. It is an easy, quick and delicious recipe which can be served with any rice recipe or roti or chapati.
Ingredients:
(Serves 4)
- 1 cup Yellow Pigeon Pea & Split Green Gram (soaked)
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- Curry Leaves
- 4-5 Garlic Cloves (crushed)
- 2 Green Chillies (slit)
- 1 Onion (chopped)
- 1 Tomato (chopped)
- 1/4 cup Carrot (grated)
- 1/4 Pumpkin (grated)
- 1 cup Water
- Salt
- 1/2 Asafoetida
- Coriander Leaves
Method:
1. Add soaked yellow pigeon pea and split green gram, turmeric powder in a pressure cooker. Cook this for 3 whistles.
2. Take a pan and heat some oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, crushed garlic cloves, slit green chillies.
3. Now the tempering is ready, so add chopped onion, tomato, grated carrot, pumpkin and water.
4. Cover the pan with a lid and cook the ingredients.
5. Once it is cooked, add the cooked dal to it and mix it well. Add water to maintain proper consistency.
6. Add salt, asafoetida, coriander leaves and let it temper for some time.
7. Turn off the flame once it is properly cooked and serve it hot.
