As a result of the not-so-smart decision, the toilet paper started to burn and heavy smoke filled the entire apartment. In the end, fire authorities concluded that the apartment sustained several hundred dollars’ worth of damages.
Last year, the Fire and Rescue Service in Dorset, UK was dispatched to an apartment when a second floor resident tried to dry his undergarments in a microwave. He was led to safety by neighbors, and two firemen quickly put out the fire, leaving behind "slight smoke damage'.
A rescue spokesperson says "The fire safety message here is to never put clothing of any kind in the microwave or an oven to attempt to dry them."
