For any criminal, an ATM is like a candy waiting to be picked up. Banks ofcourse know it and they put in plenty of safeguards. One particular gang of criminals though used an extreme tactic to go after an ATM.

They came with a pickup truck, smashed the wall of a convenience store and drove away with a dragging ATM.

This happened at a quick saver in Houston, Texas.

According to the store owner, the ATM had about $2000. He tells Houston Chronicle - "they backed a pickup through the plate-glass window and brick wall, hooked a chain around the ATM machine near the checkout counter and yanked it out."

Banks are constantly trying to come with new ATM innovations in order to balance out the convenience and security.

One such new technology is biometrics identification which prevents thefts in scenarios where someone has a stolen debit card and can guess the password.

According to MSNBC, a Japanese bank is the first so far in the world offering a completely card free ATM. The process allows the customers to access account by using their palms.
