00:00:00Food is the only thing I have left to look forward to.
00:00:11I can feel my body breaking down.
00:00:14I have to change.
00:00:22These surgeries represent freedom.
00:00:25I'm risking everything for a chance to have a future.
00:00:30I have a lot of lost time to make up for.
00:00:39I can breathe so much better now.
00:00:42I never would have believed I'd be capable of this.
00:00:46I eat three times a day.
00:00:48How many times do you actually eat?
00:00:50I guess I go home and sneak some cookies, right?
00:00:53You know you gotta get up, right?
00:00:55One, two, three.
00:01:00Angelisa!
00:01:01Because of my size, my life has become such a struggle.
00:01:09And I'm so big now, even simple tasks like getting dressed can be a big chore for me.
00:01:18And I have to have help sometimes.
00:01:19Good morning.
00:01:20Good morning.
00:01:21Good morning.
00:01:22Where are your socks?
00:01:23They're right there.
00:01:24I live with my mom and dad, my brother Angel, and sister Angelisa.
00:01:28Can you lift it up a little bit for me?
00:01:29Yeah.
00:01:30And I'm embarrassed about that because I moved back home to take care of my mom.
00:01:35She has cancer.
00:01:36So I'm supposed to be helping her.
00:01:37And every day it gets harder to move and harder to breathe.
00:01:42First thing I do every day is I get up and I cook so I can feed my family.
00:01:49Hello, puppy.
00:01:50Sometimes my mom or siblings help me.
00:01:51But I'm the one whose job it is to feed everyone.
00:01:52I don't mind it.
00:01:53I actually like it a lot.
00:02:00And I've really gotten good at it because I've done it for most of my life.
00:02:08My siblings help me, but I'm the one whose job it is to feed everyone.
00:02:13I don't mind it. I actually like it a lot.
00:02:16And I've really gotten good at it because I've done it for most of my life.
00:02:23Food has always been an escape for me.
00:02:25When I was 10, my mother had a stroke.
00:02:27It was one of the most traumatic stages of my life.
00:02:30I had to cook and clean because there was nobody else to do it.
00:02:35My siblings were younger and my dad worked all day.
00:02:39So I kept going to food and it was a comfort.
00:02:43After high school, he did receive a full scholarship to the university in Houston.
00:02:49And unfortunately, because I was diagnosed with cancer, he was forced to come back home permanently.
00:02:56After that, I was just staying home and eating.
00:02:59But I know the food is starting to kill me now because I have lymphedema and it got infected.
00:03:07We went to the emergency room and I began to lose consciousness and slipped into a coma.
00:03:15I go into cardiac arrest. They're in the emergency room.
00:03:18I remember wanting to talk to my siblings because I thought I was going to die and that was it.
00:03:23But thankfully, I was able to recover.
00:03:26And falling into a coma was as much of a wake up call for me as it was to my family.
00:03:32I'm about to meet Dr. Nell and find out what he thinks about my chances.
00:03:46So it's hard not to worry a little and get nervous about it.
00:03:51Isaac?
00:03:53It's been a while since I got on the scale.
00:03:56A few years ago, I hit 600.
00:03:58And I didn't really want to know my weight after that.
00:04:01So it's probably a lot higher now.
00:04:03But I'm hoping it's not.
00:04:05But whatever my weight is, it's too high.
00:04:08And I'm here to change that.
00:04:10Because I know my life is depending on this.
00:04:17Okay.
00:04:18Hello.
00:04:19Hello.
00:04:20Good afternoon, Dr. Nell.
00:04:21You must be Isaac.
00:04:22Yes.
00:04:23Okay.
00:04:24You are only 23 years old?
00:04:26Yes.
00:04:27Okay.
00:04:28And you are 661 pounds, huh?
00:04:31Yes.
00:04:32This is a very dangerous situation you are in with your weight.
00:04:35And you understand that if you keep this up, you're not going to live for very long.
00:04:39Mm-hmm.
00:04:40So what do you do on a regular day?
00:04:42Well, I cook and I clean.
00:04:45You cook for who?
00:04:46For the family.
00:04:47Yes.
00:04:48So you cook for everybody over there and you eat yourself too?
00:04:52Yes.
00:04:53Okay.
00:04:54So you need to start making big changes to your life now.
00:04:57Yeah.
00:04:58If you stick with a 12-100 calorie diet, you should be able to lose at least 80 pounds over the next two months.
00:05:04Okay.
00:05:05Okay?
00:05:06Awesome.
00:05:07I'm going to give you some exercises and I want you to do those exercises an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon.
00:05:12So you can build up your strength and your stamina, okay?
00:05:15Okay.
00:05:19I've been working really hard for this past month and I feel like I've been making some progress.
00:05:24But it hasn't been easy because my mom had to start chemo again.
00:05:27But I've been sticking with the diet and I've been doing my exercises.
00:05:31I got my mom's weight and my brother gave me one of his like medicine ball things to lift.
00:05:37And I've been using those for my upper body stuff.
00:05:40At first, I couldn't do too many like reps.
00:05:44But I can do full sets now like the exercise is saying.
00:05:53I think for tonight, I'm going to plan us a nice healthy meal.
00:05:57I'm excited to see what you have in store for us.
00:06:00Shrimp and salad.
00:06:04I've never grilled shrimp.
00:06:05I just know you can grill them.
00:06:07Oh, how's your going?
00:06:09It's going good.
00:06:11It smells good.
00:06:12Yeah.
00:06:14This will be a little bit of a test of my culinary skills to make something that'll work for everyone.
00:06:20So, new lifestyle, new meals.
00:06:26Everybody gets six shrimp and some zucchini and then y'all can make your salad.
00:06:31Okay.
00:06:33Well, the whole meal is only like 300 calories.
00:06:37Okay, Anglic.
00:06:39Moment of truth.
00:06:42A little bit more seasoning, but it's good.
00:06:45Did you enjoy the shrimp angel?
00:06:47Obviously not.
00:06:48Look at your plate.
00:06:50Okay.
00:06:51Okay.
00:06:52Isaac?
00:06:53I made a lot of changes to my eating.
00:06:55And I know I've made progress.
00:06:56But my goal was to lose 120 pounds.
00:06:57I was 661 four months ago.
00:06:58And if I did that, I'd be under 541 now.
00:07:00620.
00:07:01I was hoping it'd be higher.
00:07:03I made a lot of changes to my eating, and I know I've made progress, but my goal was
00:07:16to lose 120 pounds.
00:07:19I was 661 four months ago, and if I did that, I'd be under 541 now.
00:07:25620.
00:07:28I was hoping it'd be higher.
00:07:30Hello.
00:07:31How are you all doing?
00:07:32Hello.
00:07:33Well, I think I see you lost some weight, which is good, but it's not as much as you should
00:07:39have lost in four months.
00:07:41And if you keep all this strain on your body for much longer, it's just going to be a matter
00:07:46of time before something happens that pushes your body over the edge, and it gives up, and
00:07:51that's it for you.
00:07:52So we'll set up psychotherapy for you to try and work on the issues driving you to eat.
00:07:58Okay?
00:07:59Okay.
00:08:00I'm going to give you another two months.
00:08:01To lose the rest of the weight you should have lost this time, and if you're successful,
00:08:05then we'll approve you for weight loss surgery, okay?
00:08:08Okay.
00:08:09Okay.
00:08:10Okay.
00:08:11Okay.
00:08:12Okay.
00:08:13Thanks for coming.
00:08:14Good to see you.
00:08:15Okay.
00:08:16Okay.
00:08:17So, Isaac, tell me a little bit about yourself.
00:08:18Well, I'm the oldest of five kids.
00:08:19And what were you guys doing when your kids were growing up?
00:08:20I was a stay-at-home mom for a while.
00:08:21Okay.
00:08:22And then I got sick.
00:08:23How old was he when you got sick?
00:08:24He was like 10 or 11.
00:08:25Okay.
00:08:26So, he stepped up.
00:08:27Yes.
00:08:28So, he stepped up.
00:08:29Yes.
00:08:30He was the one that cooked, changed diapers, laundry.
00:08:31Were you scared when your mom got sick?
00:08:32You might be scared when your mom got sick?
00:08:33You might be scared when your mom got sick.
00:08:34Okay.
00:08:35So, I'm the oldest of five kids.
00:08:38And what were you guys doing when your kids were growing up?
00:08:41I was a stay-at-home mom for a while.
00:08:43Okay.
00:08:44And then I got sick.
00:08:46How old was he when you got sick?
00:08:48He was like 10 or 11.
00:08:50Okay.
00:08:51So, he stepped up.
00:08:52Yes.
00:08:53He was the one that cooked, changed diapers, laundry.
00:08:56Were you scared when your mom got sick?
00:09:00Okay.
00:09:01The emotion's still there.
00:09:02Okay.
00:09:03Yeah, I'm kind of guessing this is because you couldn't cry back then because you had
00:09:07to be strong for her.
00:09:08Maybe you're crying now.
00:09:10Yeah, you're letting it out now.
00:09:12How were you academically?
00:09:14Did you do well in class?
00:09:15Mm-hmm.
00:09:16I was number four in my class.
00:09:17No kidding.
00:09:18What were you into in high school?
00:09:20Um, marching band.
00:09:21No kidding.
00:09:22What instrument did you play?
00:09:23The tuba.
00:09:24So, music was a big part of your life.
00:09:26So, after that, what happened?
00:09:27What happened after high school?
00:09:28I went to college.
00:09:29Here in Houston, around Houston.
00:09:31Did they have a marching band that you were going to go join?
00:09:33Did they recruit you?
00:09:34Mm-hmm.
00:09:35So, that was a big deal.
00:09:36Yes, sir.
00:09:37So, what happened?
00:09:38Um, she started getting sick again.
00:09:44What kind of sick?
00:09:46Cancer.
00:09:47Okay.
00:09:48So, you got diagnosed with cancer.
00:09:49So, I'd ended up in the hospital and next thing I know, he was like right there next
00:09:54to my side.
00:09:55So, you left college aside.
00:09:56Isaac, it feels like you gave up your dream.
00:09:59But, it's not too late to get it back.
00:10:02Isaac, I think your homework is to get enrolled in school again.
00:10:05We gotta get you playing music again.
00:10:07Can you do it?
00:10:08Mm-hmm.
00:10:09Yeah?
00:10:10Yeah.
00:10:11I'm finally back to Houston today to see Dr. Now.
00:10:28You relax.
00:10:29I'll be nervous for you.
00:10:31Mr. Martinez?
00:10:33I'm very nervous again because this has been a long journey.
00:10:38And I need it to finally pay off for me so I can move ahead.
00:10:43The last time, I was at 577 and my goal was to lose 50 pounds to get to 527.
00:10:49And I really hope I did that today.
00:10:50539.
00:10:51Okay.
00:10:52Hello.
00:10:53How y'all doing?
00:10:54Good.
00:10:55How are you, Dr. Now?
00:10:56Good.
00:10:57All right.
00:10:58So, Isaac?
00:10:59Yes, sir.
00:11:00You lost a little bit more this time.
00:11:01So, does that mean I can get weight loss surgery?
00:11:04Well, I'm happy to see you're at least sticking with it over the past couple months.
00:11:20So, I approve you for weight loss surgery and schedule it for two months from now.
00:11:25And as long as you keep doing what you're doing and lose another 30 pounds by then, we
00:11:30will move ahead with your surgery again.
00:11:33You think you can do that?
00:11:35Definitely.
00:11:36100% I'll do that.
00:11:37Okay.
00:11:38Great.
00:11:39I can't even express what I'm feeling right now.
00:11:41I'm so proud of them.
00:12:03I meant to be appreciative and liked to do that first time, one of the things like this
00:12:04turned out.
00:12:05Do you even know what you're interested in Peterson?
00:12:06Good.
00:12:07Good.
00:12:08Thank you very much.
00:12:09Yes.
00:12:10Wow.
00:12:11You want to do everything, I was selling Jen to be even to convene it.
00:12:12I love this new pancake.
00:12:14Fun as much.
00:12:15Honestly, is your breakfast hurt.
00:12:16It'll look pretty quick and make it better than waking up sad.
00:12:17Pablo go get your snack. This is my snack.
00:12:22It's about a month until my surgery and it's been a struggle for me to keep the momentum going
00:12:28So I'm trying to focus hard on eating right
00:12:34Okay
00:12:47Oh
00:12:57Sorry Pablo. I have to move you out of your throne. Excuse me. Come stay on me
00:13:11I'm also doing my exercises every day. I have to lose 30 pounds by the day of the operation
00:13:18And that's been a hard amount for me to lose each time
00:13:23But my mom ordered a skill that can handle my weight, so I'm excited to be able to find out my weight before going in
00:13:29It's always so nerve-wracking to wait to find out, but I can't lose my surgery
00:13:34So I have to make sure this time that I'm at my goal before I go
00:13:38Four
00:13:40Oh
00:13:43Eight
00:13:45Nine
00:13:47Ten
00:13:49Okay
00:13:51Ten Pablo ups
00:13:54That's gonna be the newest trend
00:13:56And I'm working as hard as I can while I'm waiting for the scale to arrive
00:14:00To make sure that I get to where I need and finally move ahead with my surgery
00:14:05My daily life is such a struggle now because of how my size have gotten
00:14:28Even with all the weight I have on me now
00:14:31I'm still able to do some basic things myself like cleaning myself on my own still
00:14:35But it's hard. It's very hard
00:14:38When you're my size, you have so many areas you have to keep clean
00:14:42I get out of breath and it's very painful
00:14:46And I know it's that way because of how I eat
00:14:48Eating is the only thing to bring me the pleasure that I want
00:14:53It's what I look forward to constantly
00:14:58Either Trina or my niece will give me my first meal of the day
00:15:02They know what I like and they just bring it to me
00:15:10Come in
00:15:11Hey, I'm here to bring the chicken
00:15:13Yes, because I'm hungry
00:15:16Aww
00:15:16Trina and my niece Mimi both give me a hard time when they bring me what I want
00:15:21So you mean to tell me you're gonna eat all this chicken you wanted all this
00:15:24Irene really?
00:15:26But what I'm eating I just want to be left alone to eat
00:15:30I don't want to hear all that
00:15:32Plus when I'm eating it helps me forget everything else and block out a lot
00:15:37All the hurt of me is taken away
00:15:39You ain't even offer me a piece of chicken
00:15:41Do you want a piece of chicken?
00:15:42Nah, I don't want no chicken I mean baked chicken
00:15:44I'm trying to get healthy for the kids, you know
00:15:46You got your children, I don't have my children
00:15:50I got pregnant when I was 16
00:15:52I was a single mother at 17
00:15:54And I had three more children
00:15:56My weight increased during that time
00:15:59And someone had reported me because of my addictions
00:16:02And so CPS came and took my three youngest
00:16:04And I was devastated
00:16:07And I actually lost my mind, you know
00:16:10But it led me to a wake up call
00:16:12You know I got clean and sober for my kids then
00:16:16But when I got rid of those addictions
00:16:18It led me right back to food
00:16:20Every day is up here a battle because my mom can't control her eating
00:16:23As a son, I love my mom, I don't want her to pass away
00:16:28I want her to live a happy and healthy life
00:16:31So I really do help my moms get better
00:16:35But I can't take care of myself yet
00:16:37Until I get rid of my food addictions
00:16:41I got rid of my other addiction
00:16:42And now this is the last one that stands in my way
00:16:46To give my life back and to give my kids back
00:16:48My hope today is that Dr. Niles will be able to help me
00:17:04Lose all the weight off me
00:17:06So I can get better for my kids and have a better life
00:17:12I think I'm around 600 pounds, give or take
00:17:15Whenever you're ready
00:17:19And at that weight, I'm just not able to function
00:17:21Like I need no more
00:17:24We're okay
00:17:29And I don't want to be like this anymore
00:17:31It's taking a lot out of me
00:17:34I'm ready to start this journey
00:17:35Me and my friend Cameo are here at Dr. Niles
00:17:47I think I'm around 600 pounds, give or take
00:17:57Okay
00:18:01Y'all can go to the exam room, okay?
00:18:03Okay
00:18:04Thank you ma'am
00:18:05No problem
00:18:06I just need Dr. Niles to give me the support
00:18:09So I can stick with it and be successful this time
00:18:12Because on my own, I haven't been able to so far
00:18:16Hello, how you all doing?
00:18:17Hi, how are you?
00:18:18And you must be Irene
00:18:20What brought you here?
00:18:22Um, I want to lose weight to be a better person
00:18:25So what do you eat in a typical day?
00:18:27I like snacks, chips and soda
00:18:30I see you're an enabler
00:18:32Oh man, that's what I didn't want
00:18:34She clearly has a negative support system that enables her
00:18:39And that's what has to stop and she needs help to change
00:18:42Starting now, no more than 1200 calories in a single day
00:18:47And if you do that, you're going to be able to lose at least 60 pounds over the next two months
00:18:52And if you do the diet, that should be very easy for you to do
00:18:55Okay
00:18:56So we got a lot of things we need to do to get you on the right path
00:19:01But everything is going to be up to you to make the changes with your eating habit
00:19:07And do your exercises and follow up with the insertion
00:19:10So that means that you're going to have to change your eating habit
00:19:14Do you feel you motivated to make the changes?
00:19:18Yes, I'm very mad
00:19:19Okay, so you just need to know what kind of changes to make
00:19:22Yes, sir
00:19:26It's been a week and a half or so since I went to see Dr. Nile
00:19:30Kim Yeo is over to help me make my meals and do my exercises
00:19:33And she also took out all the baked food in the house
00:19:36Ain't surprised me with some cheese
00:19:38Nah, that ain't on the diet
00:19:41But I know you're going to like the meal
00:19:43But I don't think you're going to like the workout that's going to come after it
00:19:45Yeah, let's try
00:19:51You like it?
00:19:52No and yes
00:19:53No pain, no gain
00:19:56No flavor, no pleasure
00:20:00Healthy, healthy
00:20:01I know it's healthy
00:20:03Healthy
00:20:03Oh, basically, I don't get used to it
00:20:06This is a big adjustment for me, but I know this is important to get a better life
00:20:11Well, that meal's done and now let's get to this workout
00:20:15So this is a medicine ball
00:20:18I'm going to hand you the ball and every time you hand it back to me
00:20:21I want you to give me a goal on why you want to lose this weight, okay?
00:20:25Okay
00:20:26I want to be able to open my own business
00:20:29Girl, girl
00:20:29And what I didn't need to do
00:20:33I want to be able to
00:20:36Have sex and do more and more sex
00:20:39Goals, goals, goals
00:20:42Girl, I'm feeling good and I'm feeling inspired
00:20:45Thank you for helping me work out, girl
00:20:49You're putting me out
00:20:51Yes
00:20:51Oh my god
00:20:52I love you though
00:20:53I love you too
00:20:54Me and Cameo are back to see Dr. Now
00:21:01I'm nervous to find out where my weight is landed today
00:21:06But I know I've made progress and I should see some advancement with my weight in a positive direction
00:21:12Got it?
00:21:12Uh huh
00:21:13Okay
00:21:15Irene
00:21:16I just don't know how much advancement it is
00:21:19It definitely had me feeling so nervous like this
00:21:22But I'm trying to keep my optimism and I'm hoping it's enough to be able to move ahead
00:21:28Where I lost 60 pounds down to at least 543
00:21:33598
00:21:38It's not a lot
00:21:40And I'm worried there's going to be a focus for Dr. Now
00:21:43You know, I know I could have done better
00:21:45But it's a move in the right direction
00:21:49Hello, how are y'all doing?
00:21:50Hi, Dr. Now
00:21:51So Irene, it doesn't look like you've made much of a change over the last two months
00:21:57So why is that?
00:21:58It's been hard, Dr. Now
00:21:59Losing five pounds means you haven't tried that hard
00:22:03So what changes do you actually make?
00:22:05I got rid of a lot of bad stuff in the house
00:22:08And I've been trying to adapt to your healthy meals
00:22:11Our biggest problem is that I can't be with her 24 hours of the day
00:22:15So I don't know what she eats when I'm not around
00:22:18Do you remember I told you this is all up to you?
00:22:22Yes, I do
00:22:23You mentioned a couple times you want to do this to be a better mom
00:22:27Is food more important to you than being a better mom?
00:22:31Being a mom is very important to me because I need to be here for myself and my children
00:22:36Period, point blank
00:22:38Right now you're still putting food over them and your health, you get that?
00:22:42Yes, and I do want to change that
00:22:44It's all up to you, you understand that?
00:22:47Yes, I do understand that
00:22:48So do better with your diet and exercises or we're not moving ahead with you, you got that?
00:22:53I'll do it, I got you
00:23:07What do you want it like?
00:23:12Just some garlic powder and onion
00:23:14I was supposed to have my fourth appointment like six months ago
00:23:18But it got canceled because of the pandemic
00:23:21You know, I had to wing it with the broccoli too
00:23:24But I wanted to keep working on what I needed to stay on track this whole time
00:23:28Boredom made it very hard not to eat for comfort
00:23:31Honestly, mom, I believe this is a perfectly cooked fish
00:23:35While I've been at home, I've been a little worried about my mom
00:23:38I try to make sure she's not feeling lonely, depressed and stuff like that
00:23:42Recently, I've been finding my determination again
00:23:46I'm getting full
00:23:48And I don't want to give up because I have to get better
00:23:51So if doctor now says I can continue again, I'll be feeling committed then
00:23:56That's all you eating?
00:23:57Mm-hmm, yes
00:23:58So you ready to work at it?
00:24:00Yes
00:24:02Hand me the weights
00:24:03Let me sit up a little bit
00:24:06Honestly, I know I could have done better before
00:24:09And I didn't do my best
00:24:10But I really am ready to do whatever it takes
00:24:13Before I get worse
00:24:15And run out of time
00:24:21I have a video called with Dr. Nile today
00:24:23To see if it's possible for me to go back to him and have another appointment
00:24:28Hi, how are you doing?
00:24:30I've been struggling
00:24:31I don't think I made as much progress to be honest with you
00:24:34At this point, if you're still killing yourself for food
00:24:37What do you want me to do about that?
00:24:39I got depressed having to be home this long with the pandemic
00:24:42But now I just want to get back on track
00:24:44And I want to meet your goals if I can have some time to do that
00:24:48So what's going to make the difference this time
00:24:50When you say that every time, but you come in with almost no progress
00:24:54The pandemic, when everything just happened, has made me realize I had a lot to lose
00:24:59And I just want a second chance to do what I have to do with my life this time
00:25:05Okay, I'll give you two more months
00:25:06And I expect you to be at least around 545 that long
00:25:10I'm ready to do whatever it takes
00:25:12I'm going to do it this time
00:25:14All right
00:25:15I hope so
00:25:16I will
00:25:17Okay, I'll see you in two months then
00:25:19Bye
00:25:20Bye Dr. Nile
00:25:20I feel like I'm ready to take a big step for myself today
00:25:34For my physical advancement with my exercises
00:25:37Because I'm going to Cameo's gym
00:25:38And I'm going to work out with her trainer at a public place
00:25:41Hi, Nancy
00:25:43Hey, how are you?
00:25:44How are you?
00:25:45How are you?
00:25:46I'm fine
00:25:46Good to see you
00:25:48How are you?
00:25:48Good to see you
00:25:49I'm good
00:25:49This is Irene
00:25:50I love you
00:25:51My hands are cold
00:25:52I'm sorry
00:25:53That's okay
00:25:53Okay, let me show you what we're going to start at
00:25:55Okay
00:25:56Cameo always been pushing me to go to her gym with her trainer
00:26:00But I haven't felt physically or mentally ready for that until recently
00:26:05All you're doing is taking your toes literally and touching
00:26:08But I'm very determined now to progress
00:26:11Whatever I have to do to advance
00:26:13I'm ready to do it
00:26:14There you go, Irene
00:26:16Because I'm 100% committed to better myself to get to where I need
00:26:19See, not too scary
00:26:21Right
00:26:21Not too scary
00:26:22Let's punch your face meat and do some upper body
00:26:25I'm eating stricter than I ever have
00:26:28With no exceptions for anything that's not on a diet
00:26:32So I feel like I'm making my eating the best it can be
00:26:35And now I need to make my workout the same
00:26:39All right, arms above your head
00:26:41You're going to aim this
00:26:42It's going to go behind your head
00:26:43So bend those elbows
00:26:45There you go
00:26:45And then bring it straight back up
00:26:47Straight back up
00:26:48Let's get you to walk so that way you keep
00:26:49Because I know you've got your heartbreak going
00:26:50Okay
00:26:51What?
00:26:52You got to walk
00:26:53Use your legs and walk, girl
00:26:55So this is going to be great for you
00:26:58Even just one or two minutes
00:27:00Okay
00:27:00It's going to get you conditioned to breathe in
00:27:02I'm great
00:27:03There you go
00:27:04I can do this
00:27:05I can do this
00:27:06You want to inhale
00:27:07Okay, stop for a minute
00:27:08There you go
00:27:08Okay
00:27:09Stop for a minute
00:27:10Stop for a minute
00:27:11Okay
00:27:13Okay, hold on
00:27:14Let me take a breath
00:27:15It's a process
00:27:17That's okay
00:27:19That was hard, but I feel good
00:27:21So I know that means I'm getting a good workout
00:27:23So I feel good about that, but I'm exhausted
00:27:25But it's a good kind of exhausted
00:27:27Because I know it means I'm progressing and getting further towards where I want to be
00:27:33And I know I need to do that because this might be my last chance to get Dr. Now's help
00:27:47Me and Cameo are headed back to another appointment with Dr. Now
00:27:51And we both feeling confident about my progress
00:27:53But I'm still nervous because it could determine the rest of my life at this point
00:27:59Irene
00:28:05I know I'm running out of chances and I can feel I've been running out of time with my body
00:28:12And if I lose this chance then that's gonna take my only hope for me
00:28:15Because I really do believe my life is dependent on this
00:28:24My last check-in was 591 and Dr. Now told me I needed to get to around 540 if I want to advance
00:28:34So I'm really hoping that I did that
00:28:39535
00:28:39I'm feeling very proud of myself and I'm excited to get Dr. Now reaction
00:28:48So I'm feeling very happy right now with my progress and I'm very hopeful that this means
00:28:53I could fully advance today to get my weight loss surgery
00:28:58Hello
00:28:58Hi Dr. Now how are you?
00:29:00I'm doing okay, how y'all doing?
00:29:02Good
00:29:03So Irene, you finally did it and got to your goal
00:29:06Yes, sir
00:29:07Woooo!
00:29:08Yay!
00:29:09That's great
00:29:11It only took you a little bit over a year
00:29:14I don't think seven months of this should have caught me with everything that's going on with the pandemic
00:29:19Fair enough
00:29:20But in spite of how long it took, I am proud of you for finally doing it
00:29:25Thank you, Dr. Now
00:29:26So what was the difference this time?
00:29:29After a few months with being at home, I thought I lost my chance of going to surgery
00:29:33And I guess it made me realize how close I am to not having any options for help
00:29:38And I told myself if I got another chance, no matter what, I have to take it
00:29:43So I just cut out all the bad stuff I was eating with no exceptions
00:29:47No more excuses and justifying, I just did it
00:29:50Okay, so it took the pandemic to wake you up?
00:29:53Yes it did, I guess you can say that
00:29:56I guess she wasn't cheating no more whenever I left the building
00:30:00See, she got the results
00:30:02Great
00:30:03Well, Irene, I'm proud of you and I'm going to approve you for weight loss surgery
00:30:06Woooo!
00:30:07Oh, yes, girl!
00:30:09Oh, yes!
00:30:10This is about time all this hard work we put in
00:30:12We put into it
00:30:13Yes, girl
00:30:15Thank you so much
00:30:16Yes, honey
00:30:18Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you
00:30:19See, hard work pays off
00:30:20Oh, yes
00:30:21But here's the situation with COVID and the safety restrictions
00:30:26And because there is concern of another spike in cases
00:30:30An active surgery may not be feasible for a little bit longer
00:30:34So right now it may take a few months before we are able to get you on the schedule
00:30:39Okay, but how long do you think it would take?
00:30:41Because I wasn't expecting to have to keep meeting any goals like that
00:30:45So we'll move ahead as soon as possible
00:30:48Just make sure to stay on track
00:30:50And at least lose something reasonable like 10 pounds a month
00:30:53Until we are able to do the operation
00:30:56You should be able to lose that easily
00:30:59You think you can do that?
00:31:00I can do that, Dr. Mal, definitely
00:31:02I've come this far that I'm getting the surgery
00:31:05That I'm going to do it
00:31:15Salad?
00:31:21Yes
00:31:22Let's get it
00:31:23Let's get it, girl
00:31:26My son and I was able to move out of the apartment and into a house
00:31:31So having more room has made my life easier
00:31:34I have been making a good progress
00:31:36And I hope to get my weight loss surgery soon
00:31:39But I still need Cameo's help
00:31:41Stay on track with my diet
00:31:42So she's been coming over every other day
00:31:46To help me cook and that keeps me motivated
00:31:54I'm going to sit right here because it's kind of high up right here
00:32:00At my last appointment with Dr. Now
00:32:02He told me I have to keep making progress
00:32:05And lose at least 10 pounds a month
00:32:08Until I get surgery
00:32:09Or he will cancel it
00:32:11So we are determined to make sure that doesn't happen
00:32:16Why?
00:32:17Because I'm trying to stay on track
00:32:19All on my back
00:32:20Let me get you some water
00:32:29Thank you
00:32:30You're welcome
00:32:31So you got some energy now?
00:32:32You want to go get some fresh air?
00:32:35Yeah
00:32:35Well
00:32:36Let's go
00:32:37Oh, come on
00:32:41I usually try to force myself to do the power walk
00:32:44Even when I don't feel like it
00:32:46Even when my back is hurt
00:32:48See the sun is down
00:32:51It's not so hot out here
00:32:52It actually feels good, right?
00:32:57Cameo says if I'm going to stay on track
00:32:59I need to push myself more to do active things
00:33:03Because my next appointment with Dr. Now is coming up in a month
00:33:07Even when my energy feels too low to be going outside
00:33:11We shouldn't be taking any chances
00:33:13And I need to keep up with it
00:33:15You feel good out here?
00:33:16It does
00:33:17The wind's blowing
00:33:18Yeah
00:33:18Everything
00:33:20How you doing?
00:33:22I'm okay
00:33:23A few more steps
00:33:25We are almost there
00:33:25Then we can turn around and go back home
00:33:27All right
00:33:27Okay
00:33:28All right
00:33:29I'm in
00:33:29Take your time
00:33:31Take your time
00:33:32Just take your time
00:33:32Ain't no rush
00:33:33Just take your time
00:33:34So I know I need to work my hardest because I need my progress to be enough
00:33:41So I go back this next time
00:33:43And I made it to where I need by then no matter what
00:33:46Because if I lose this opportunity, I'm done
00:33:51Almost home
00:34:04Nobody else
00:34:05Leaving me
00:34:08Your passions
00:34:14The
00:34:16IIT
00:34:16And I
00:34:22Which
00:34:29Please
00:34:30Please
00:34:31Please
00:34:32Please
00:34:33Please
00:34:33Please
00:34:33Please
00:34:34well that's not too bad i'm getting there making some progress the scale my mom ordered for me to
00:34:50check my weight at home finally arrived i thought having the scale would be the thing to help push
00:34:56me to achieve my target weight but my surgery day has come and gone because i needed to lose 30
00:35:02pounds by then i've been struggling to get there so i called dr now and told him i wasn't at his goal
00:35:08and dr now canceled my surgery dr now won't approve me because i'm not losing weight fast enough or
00:35:15enough to meet dr now's and deadline i really really want to get the surgery and help get this
00:35:22weight off dr now told me that he'd put me back on the schedule if i started making good progress
00:35:27again and i'm gonna work really hard to do that i'm determined to keep losing and get to where i
00:35:34need to get my surgery back that looks good we'll see i mean i really like spinach but i haven't had
00:35:44it raw in a while oh okay you know i like i like it cooked yeah seeing isaac make the healthy choice
00:35:53of his lunch or breakfast just any meal regardless you know just any meal it's refreshing it's new
00:36:00um you know now it's not the bacon the eggs the pancakes you know that heavy
00:36:05meal it's a it's a meal that's going to nourish you it's going to help you it's going to energize
00:36:11you so how are you feeling um with your weight i feel okay i'm happy that i'm losing it but i
00:36:17know i know i could do better i work the program more the amount of weight that he does have it's
00:36:24a significant amount so it's it doesn't come off that easily so i think he's just scared that he's
00:36:31going to gain everything that he did lose and losing that independence that he has gained so i think
00:36:39that's where his his doubtfulness comes in but i know he has it i i believe in him 100 and i know he
00:36:47can do it yeah well let's just hope dr now is happy i don't want to let him down you won't he'll see
00:36:56the progress he'll see it yeah and he'll know skill don't lie right all right i'll talk to you later okay
00:37:17we're here
00:37:25thank you
00:37:29today cameo is coming with me to see dr now
00:37:35i think i'm doing well my hope is that with all of my progress i'm going to finally get on the
00:37:47schedule
00:37:47thank you
00:37:53i ring i was at 5 35 two months ago
00:37:59step up on the skill and i'm supposed to lose at least 10 pounds a month so i should be at 5 15 today
00:38:07your weight is 5 28
00:38:16i only lost seven pounds but i'm glad i lost it
00:38:23i'm surprised it's not a lot more because i've been working hard to achieve my goal and change my
00:38:30eating habits and i feel like i'm ready for my surgery now
00:38:34so i just don't understand why the scale don't show more advancement
00:38:39hello hello how y'all doing now how are you y'all doing okay yes we're doing okay all right so irene
00:38:53uh today you're 5 28 huh yes sir so you only lost uh seven pounds in past two months
00:39:01i was expecting that you lose 10 pounds a month so what is going on with that i'm not sure but i thought
00:39:08i was losing enough i know i'm i'm focused on getting the surgery and doing what i have to do
00:39:15well you know for the first five months that i saw you you only lost three to five pounds each month
00:39:24and after that i didn't see you for 10 months right and you lost uh 56 pounds right well but that 56
00:39:35pounds you lost in 10 months is not your recent progress so you only lost seven pounds in last two
00:39:44months so that means that you have not cut back enough on your diet so you need to do more to lose
00:39:52at least 10 pounds a month okay i promise i will do more so so far from the beginning that we have seen
00:40:01you and before the covet and you have lost 75 pounds so if you lose another 30 pound you're going to be
00:40:10over 100 pound that we ask you to lose to qualify for weight loss surgery so i'm going to give you three
00:40:16months and to lose 30 pounds and if you do that then we're going to approve you for weight loss surgery
00:40:23yes sir okay yes sir you think you can do that yes sir okay are you sure they go schedule me in three
00:40:29months yes i'm sure if you lose that 30 pound we're going to be able to schedule your weight loss surgery
00:40:36okay yes sir thank you that means that you're going to have to try harder and stick to your diet and much
00:40:45more secure than you are doing now i know i can do that and and i will okay i look forward to seeing
00:40:52that okay yes sir all right so cami is going to be here to help you out with your eating habit and see
00:41:00if we can hit that goal and so if you do that i'll see you in three months in the meantime if you need
00:41:06anything give me a call i sure will thank you bye bye bye bye i'm proud of irene for the progress she has
00:41:16made so far but i'm concerned that she hasn't cut back on her eating habit as much as it seems i think
00:41:24the reality was that she made some positive changes but not as much as she should so the next few months
00:41:31will be pivotal for her because i need to see a higher level of change in her eating habit if she
00:41:38won't without surgery if not we won't be moving ahead with her i am very disappointed but at least i
00:41:50still have a complete timeline taking me towards my weight loss surgery and i feel that's only going to
00:41:56motivate me to meet my goals and get dr now's approval
00:42:26i'm really nervous about seeing dr now today i'm nervous about what he's going to say or um what
00:42:35my weight is going to be i don't think you should be nervous uh just take what he's saying and the
00:42:43advice that he got he going to give you and i think everything will be okay
00:42:56i'm back at dr now's with my friend bianca i've been working really hard this past month
00:43:08i've been tracking my weight with my skill at home and i've been able to lose 20 pounds
00:43:15i'm hoping that progress is enough to show dr now that i'm back on track
00:43:19and ready for surgery even though it's not the 30 pounds i was supposed to lose
00:43:27isaac i was 539 and i was supposed to lose 30 pounds before the surgery
00:43:37and i think i only lost around 20.
00:43:39your weight is 543.
00:43:53i didn't think it was going to be that much how much you think you'll probably weigh less
00:43:57i'm not sure why the scale is different here and why that number is so high since i weigh myself at
00:44:11home and i thought i was down 20 pounds
00:44:14and i'm just really worried about what dr now is going to say about this
00:44:27hello how y'all doing good how are you good that's good well isaac nice to see you again it's good to
00:44:34see you so how you been i've been okay how's your family they're doing good any problem uh no for the
00:44:43most part they're pretty good we're okay and who you got with you today this is my best friend from
00:44:48high school bianca well nice to meet you nice to meet you all right so usually when we set you up for
00:44:56surgery you get motivated to lose weight and get your surgery but it looked like you gained four
00:45:03pounds so what happened with you um i don't know um i've been working very hard and i do see results
00:45:10at my scale um at home it says that i was 20 pounds lighter i don't understand why it's saying it's four
00:45:15pounds heavier here well i think most of time this home scale they're not accurate but you can tell
00:45:24if you're losing or you're not and or they may not be that accurate that's why we want you to come
00:45:33here and see what's going on so how many times you eating during the day uh i try to only eat three
00:45:41times a day well what do you mean trying to eat during treatment three times a day and some people try
00:45:47to eat three times a day but they eat eight times yeah so how many times you actually eat
00:45:55most days i eat three times a day some days i'll snack in between and things like that so as you've
00:46:00probably eaten more than you realize you need to figure that out so you know what to do but um you
00:46:10need to stick with the program and try to do that okay okay yes sir so i'm going to give you a goal of
00:46:17lose 25 pounds in two months okay okay and if you stick with the diet you could lose that amount in
00:46:25one week okay okay so you need to stay focused and try to lose weight you think you can do that yes sir
00:46:34i can do that okay um i said i'm gonna schedule your surgery for two months from now and you follow
00:46:42the same deal and if you're able to lose 25 pounds we'll go ahead with that your scale and using at home
00:46:51it should tell you that you're going in one direction or not and even though it may not be accurate
00:46:57so pay attention to that if you're able to lose that weight we go ahead with surgery if not we're
00:47:04going to cancel it okay yes sir i understand all right um is it nice to see you again nice to see
00:47:12your family said hello okay i will and hopefully we'll see you in two months and go ahead with your
00:47:19weight loss surgery okay thank you so much doctor now at the meantime if you need anything let me know
00:47:25okay i will and i'll see you again all right thank you so much you're welcome
00:47:33i'm very disappointed to see that isaac slipped back to some of his old pattern usually scheduling
00:47:40surgery for someone is motivating to get them to where they need before the operation but this time
00:47:46it doesn't look like it was enough to push isaac regardless what he has shown me is that he can apply
00:47:53himself for a bit but then he struggles falling back into his own habits and patterns but i'm hopeful
00:48:01this will only be a minor delay for him and that he will get back on track and make his goal so we can
00:48:09move ahead with his weight loss surgery in a couple months
00:48:12i'm disappointed in how everything has turned out but i'm glad i still have a chance at surgery
00:48:23i'm also glad i have an easier goal so i'm just gonna go work harder and make sure i make it this
00:48:29time because after everything i've been through i don't want my life to slide backwards again
00:48:43i only have one more month to get to my 30 pound weight loss goal and i think i've been doing
00:49:01really well but i'm doing everything i can this month to make sure i lose as much possible
00:49:07this morning i'm looking forward to spending some time with my son jacore we haven't really made
00:49:11plans yet but i'm hoping he might help me with some of my exercises because my weight loss has slowed
00:49:20yeah ma what you got going
00:49:22falling some clothes what are you doing no i was chilling just came from outside you want to go outside
00:49:28yeah i need a little fresh air i bet we go outside and do something okay
00:49:34okay i thought i made a big change before i got approved and lost a lot so i'm not sure why i'm
00:49:41still as heavy as i am so maybe if my son could show me some of the ways training he does for himself
00:49:47that would speed things up i don't know how hot it is out here today you ready yeah
00:49:54yeah it's hot out here huh yeah that sun ain't clean i'll be all right all right you know what to do with
00:50:04these you can do something like this you know raising your arms you know just like raising your arms like
00:50:11this yeah like doing these by like five times one you know you just got to do something every day
00:50:21stay active all right get them out your hand take a break okay all right you ready
00:50:30all right i'm determined to get approved i feel like i made good progress this last month
00:50:37and i want to keep it going good all right let me see them take a catch a breath and then we'll
00:50:43go walk around this tree uh you ready yeah okay yeah how about i say give me a phone
00:50:52all right i'm gonna walk with you you know go slowly
00:51:00i need to do something about that tree too but you know as long as you give a little movement
00:51:03you got it you're going you're good i'm going to have jacore to help me make one of my meals
00:51:13to see if he have any suggestions how i can cut back more and i know that he know how to take real
00:51:18good care of his body because i know i need to pull out all stops now
00:51:22all right sit right there oh lord lord jesus look through this book and see what little mini exercises
00:51:36you can do like well catch your eye to make you feel cool okay make a silence
00:51:42all the training that i've been doing has made a difference in the way that i feel
00:51:46and i'm hoping that as i start to look better my confidence will build to the level that i can be
00:51:52out in the public with my children again i want to take them to the mall and the beach
00:51:57and do more fun things as a family together you found one like you said right
00:52:02i have two more months to meet this final goal and no matter how difficult it is i'm going to do it
00:52:14this time because i know if i don't do it this time i'll probably lose my chance to get weight loss surgery
00:52:20it was a good sandwich huh mm-hmm all right so you know you gotta get up right one two three go
00:52:36hey you ready raise your hand my hands all the way up one now switch two three
00:52:46three four five six
00:53:17i've been focused on my music a lot and i'm really enjoying getting back into it
00:53:22doing it has also helped build up my breathing
00:53:29i wasn't able to do it for years because i couldn't breathe like i needed to
00:53:34now i can do it but it's still not as long as i'd like but i'm getting better at it
00:53:40and go for longer than i did a month ago
00:53:42and i'm happy about that but my weight just hasn't been going down so far this month i've lost 11
00:53:49pounds so this next month i have to lose 14 to get my surgery and i've been thinking about
00:53:56enrolling into school again to pursue my dreams and getting back to being focused on my music has
00:54:01helped me eat less and i'm a little surprised at that but it makes sense to me that it's helping
00:54:07okay i asked dr now for one more month and dr now told me i could have it but i had to lose
00:54:15another five pounds with my goal i don't feel like it's fair but i have no choice but giving it my
00:54:23all i think i can do it what's up what's up ken what you doing nothing you want to go to the park
00:54:33today yeah it's nice it's pretty outside today yeah it is nice today we'll go to the park what
00:54:39do you think about that marching contest are we trying to do that today yeah let's see what's up
00:54:44yeah you grab your trumpet i'll take this football my family especially my brother has been helping
00:54:50push me they want this for me as much as i want it so my brother's been taking me to the park to try
00:54:55and get more exercise in and i'm enjoying spending time with him yeah
00:55:03you ready ken yeah i guess i might be more tired than you will we're both out of practice
00:55:23you remember marching up hills i hated that
00:55:25okay let's let's let's get to some to some marching this drill bruh
00:55:38i miss marching mellophone oh you should run it five six seven and
00:55:44i love how i can see my stamina improving and how i
00:56:13have been able to do more and more mom speed up that was in my tempo you slowed down all the way
00:56:19i'm gonna go about home tempo i feel like i'm getting my life back and i'm thankful all my hard
00:56:24work feels like it's paying off and i'm thankful for all the support i'm getting from my family
00:56:29there you go efforts there they're really helping me stay on track
00:56:36so i know i have a big feat to lose over the next month
00:56:40but whatever it takes i have to do it i did pretty good
00:56:46you made it how did that feel it felt good a little feeling my ankles but it felt good
00:56:54good
00:56:58you're so silly
00:56:59i believe in you we've been working so hard yeah i'm crossing my fingers and my toes
00:57:18i'm headed back to dr now and i'm nervous
00:57:25i was at 528 at my last appointment three months ago and i was supposed to lose 30 pounds by today
00:57:34irene
00:57:35i have worked the hardest i have within the last year and a half
00:57:43i just hope it's enough
00:57:46okay step up on the scale
00:57:47i'm scared if it isn't that i'm gonna lose my chance to get the surgery forever
00:58:00i was at 528 at my last appointment three months ago and i was supposed to lose 30 pounds by today
00:58:12so i really hope i'm at least down to 498
00:58:15your weight is 494. thank you thank you yes ma'am
00:58:28we're going to room five okay
00:58:36i'm excited
00:58:38i feel really good to be at my goal and under 500. it's huge to see that for me
00:58:46i feel so much pressure and stress out for me now that i know that i made it and i can finally get
00:58:52scheduled for surgery hello hello how y'all doing hi how are you i'm doing well well irene uh 494
00:59:06all right you lost a 34 pound huh yes i'm really happy to see that thank you all right how do you feel
00:59:17you're losing 34 pounds i feel very good very excited i knew i was doing well but i wasn't sure
00:59:24if it was enough does that mean i'm getting a surgery i'm going to be happy to schedule you for
00:59:31surgery because you showed me that um you are working hard and to show me that you're not using
00:59:41surgery for a magic pill and it's going to be a tool to get you to lose weight so we set you up for
00:59:49some testing and if everything look okay then we're going to go ahead and schedule for surgery next
00:59:56month thank you so much i'm very happy too thank you can you how you feel about uh irene losing all
01:00:03that weight she deserves it so i'm excited i'm glad to see this transformation it's just a whole life
01:00:09transformation all the way around the board and i'm very happy for you thank you well the support
01:00:15that you're giving to her is a good encouragement you need to keep it that up after surgery okay
01:00:21yes 100 100 100 i got her back i'm going to be right there with her the whole time i can't wait
01:00:27to see the ending results i'm just excited all right i'm proud of both of you for what you have
01:00:33done so keep it up thank you if you all need anything in the meantime give me a call okay okay
01:00:40all right have a good day see you later you too
01:00:47it's been a long time coming girl i know this time around
01:00:50i'm so happy i'm happy too i'm very happy oh my god i'm excited i am very happy to see
01:01:01the progress that irene made losing 10 pounds in a month is not a lot at her weight but she stayed
01:01:08consistent losing that over the past three months and overall she lost 109 pounds in the last year and
01:01:17half so i'm confident she's ready for weight loss surgery especially with the support she has around
01:01:24her so she just needs to stick with it and keep up with what she's doing and if all her tests look
01:01:33good we will move ahead with her weight loss surgery soon i can't believe that this is happening my hard
01:01:41work is paying off and part of me can't even believe the progress that i've already made dr niles
01:01:47right i've come all this way and i'm not gonna mess this up and lose everything in my chance to have a
01:01:53better life a couple of weeks ago i decided to stop tracking my weight i wasn't losing anything
01:02:17and that was really frustrating and discouraging to me so my mom told me that i should just take
01:02:22a break from the stress and worry of it all and stop weighing myself for a little while she was
01:02:27worried about my mental health so i stopped getting on the scale just for a bit and i think i'm gonna
01:02:36ask dr now to push my appointment it's next week and i don't see the point in going and being told that
01:02:42i'm not doing enough when i know i am oh hey you ready to go for a while yeah here let me just give
01:02:49a water bottle i know i'm improving i just don't understand why i'm not losing more even though
01:02:56i'm taking a mental health break from the stress and i'm gonna keep trying to do better when i told
01:03:02my friend bianca what i was doing taking a break she offered to come and help me stay on track how are
01:03:08you good how are you that's good i'm good because she was really worried i'm gonna give up and she
01:03:14doesn't want me to because since we reconnected she's been pushing me to do this i think um you
01:03:20know going on walks like these it's been really helping me out so that's good all good news for
01:03:26right now that's good dr paradise the therapist i wanted to go see you know he said get back on what
01:03:33i had put on pause i think going back to school right now is the best thing for me i know that you'll
01:03:42be the best music teacher ever that's out there i'm excited about the idea about going back to
01:03:48school because i've worked hard and i know i've made a lot of progress even if the scale and dr now
01:03:54don't see that but i'm still nervous about it so i'm really hoping that if i take time to enroll again
01:04:00that this will be the missing link that i need to motivate me to move ahead with dr now and get his
01:04:06weight loss surgery just stay motivated and oh yeah just continue on really encouraging you know
01:04:12that you believe in me and i appreciate that i'm glad that could still be in your life and be a part of
01:04:18your journey yeah i am too
01:04:32you ready um ready but not ready to be right right well just know this is all for the better i can't wait
01:04:50finally girl finally finally finally finally oh ain't no turning back
01:04:58ain't no turning back no
01:05:02uh-uh about to go under yeah down under
01:05:09that's all right right now i'm feeling nervous anxious happy of course
01:05:18i'm moving ahead with my surgery i was really happy to show up with the weight loss of another
01:05:23seven pounds i'm down to 487. so dr now says i'm good to go this is our circle of love you can hug
01:05:32your kisses it's good for that immune system you're feeling good oh yeah i'm feeling good
01:05:36don't call each other okay i will talk to you in a few minutes okay
01:05:41so after over a year and a half and i'm finally getting my surgery
01:05:53and i'm more than ready for it so happy because i pray for this day
01:05:59today we are moving ahead with our brain surgery and we are attempting to perform sylvia effectively
01:06:17she has had a bit of bumpy road to get to this point but at least she has shown me that she's willing
01:06:24to work hard to keep making progress so i'm confident she's ready for this operation
01:06:31okay let's begin starting first incision
01:06:45what this surgery will do is give irene a powerful tool to be able to lose weight
01:07:03she won't be as hungry and she'll be able to eat only a small amount in each meal
01:07:10as a result she's going to be able to lose weight much easier john you can walk the robot
01:07:20install the endoscope for targeting so this tool will be something that will help irene to get to
01:07:28her target weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle if she continue doing what she needs
01:07:39she's been back in surgery for a few hours my emotions are all over the place because
01:07:49i really don't know what's going on i'm a little eager to know so i'm just anxiously waiting
01:07:58i'm hoping that dr now comes through the door any minute now and let me know what's going on
01:08:02going on so i don't have to keep wondering all right we are almost done the abdominal muscles are
01:08:15strong so they are making it a little difficult to maneuver
01:08:19it's a very long stomach
01:08:37okay we're finished
01:08:38irene's surgery went very well there were no issues and we were able to complete her sleeve
01:08:51gastrectomy
01:08:54now irene should be able to stay on track
01:08:57and lose more consistently as long as she stays focused and keep working hard
01:09:03for the next month she'll be on liquid diet and she should be able to lose at least 20 to 25 pounds
01:09:14and then after that she should easily be able to lose 10 to 15 pounds each one until she gets closer
01:09:21to her target weight it's all gonna come down to whether irene keep herself motivated to work hard
01:09:29but i'm hopeful she's gonna do that
01:09:53look this is it look at the skull
01:09:54and you got your backpack yeah i do mine's over here okay i skipped my appointment with dr now
01:10:03my mom told me the stress of dealing with him isn't worth it right now and it isn't going to help
01:10:07me so i didn't call to reschedule i figure i just need to focus on my life right now and get back to
01:10:14doing what i want i'm going to my first day at school and i'm going to at least try and see how it goes
01:10:20you're getting a lot better than that yeah i've been working up to this for a long time yeah well
01:10:26i can definitely tell now that i've built my stamina up i know i can do more and go a lot longer before
01:10:32i have to rest i just hope it's enough to get through the day hello hi how are you good how are you
01:10:43all right so we're going to talk today about storytelling and what makes humans storytellers
01:10:53and why storytelling is important to us i am feeling excited and it's been going better than i expected
01:11:02i was experiencing some social anxiety when we first arrived i was terrified i was going to fall and
01:11:07publicly embarrass myself but it's been a treat returning to class with my friend irene
01:11:12and having her by my side all day all right have a good rest of your day we'll see you next time
01:11:18guys thank you all right bye thank you no worries how are you feeling i'm feeling good are the nerves
01:11:27yeah i think they're slowly melting away like the pounds oh that was a good one i like it no i'm
01:11:34really proud of you though like thank you really thank you you're doing amazing amazing you know
01:11:40i really did learn a lot today people are friendly it's not like it was in high school
01:11:45this is helping my confidence so now i'm happy to be back at school in person
01:11:51hey game what's up man oh it's okay man
01:11:55yeah we just left our first class so how's everybody doing pretty good you said you were
01:12:05doing music yes ma'am what are you doing right now we're just trying to work on the last mix with my
01:12:09up yeah that's awesome isaac actually said he's wanted to teach music so yeah for sure yeah i have a
01:12:17year of music education under my belt so i'm just trying to get back into the swing of things and
01:12:22today was my first our first day in class together and today was the first step for sure
01:12:26you know definitely got the energy for it man oh thank you i feel like when you walk into the
01:12:30room you know that's something that a lot of people need yeah yeah i was trying to keep up with him you
01:12:35know what i mean yeah he's he's you were doing great man i was nervous at first but i think um
01:12:41the nerves you know they faded away as soon as we got into the classroom and started
01:12:45talking about all those interesting topics and stuff like that so i think i'll be okay
01:12:52i'm hoping that this is going to be not only what i need for myself and my mental health but
01:12:57that getting back to life will help me make even more progress so my plan is to make as much progress
01:13:03as i can in the next few months and then go back and try to get my surgery from dr now i'm glad you
01:13:09know i'm glad i was able to come to school today you know hang out with y'all and learn some things i'm
01:13:15really excited for this semester and you know hopefully graduation is you know not too far away
01:13:21and we all get serious about our careers and stuff like that
01:13:29you know not too far away
01:13:44hey you ready hey girl i'm getting ready come on i gotta put my stuff up in this bag hold on okay i'm gonna call it the ride okay
01:13:53okay today cameo and i is going to do a water aerobics class
01:14:02i'm feeling good i'm fully recovered from surgery
01:14:07and i'm eating solid foods again and i'm happy about that
01:14:12dr nas said my progress for the first month was bad so now he wants me to pick up the pace again
01:14:23so cameo and i has figured out if we keep coming up with new ways to make working out fun
01:14:33i am less likely to slow down again this next month is pivotal because it will show how successful
01:14:41i'm gonna be long term so i'm very focused on keeping my progress going good and steady like it
01:14:48needed to be water aerobics is fun you can use your body weight better you get more of a
