00:00The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, reiterated his denunciation of the economic and commercial war launched by the United States government against the peoples of the world.
00:19Under the slogan, United for the Great Homeland, Honduras welcomes the leaders who will participate in the upcoming 9th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.
00:30And China's Ministry of Commerce said it would take countermeasures against the United States after President Trump threatened an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports.
00:43Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Dersus Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:01The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, reiterated his denunciation of the economic and commercial war initiated by the United States government while condemning Washington's imposition of trade sanctions against the peoples of the world.
01:14During his broadcast, Con Maduro Mas, President Maduro described the new tariff policies implemented by Donald Trump's administration as an economic nuclear war, emphasizing that the United States is also generating damage to its economy.
01:27The head of state informed that he would declare this Tuesday a national economic emergency in order to address the disturbances caused by the U.S. measures.
01:35The President also condemned the beginning of a media campaign about an escalation of criminality in the country after the return of Venezuelan migrants and the false flag operation coordinated between ExxonMobil executives and Guyanese authorities to simulate an attack against Venezuelan oil installations in the disputed area in view of the proximity of the CELAC summit.
01:56We say that it is a mistake to unleash a world economic trade war.
02:07We say that it is immoral to do so.
02:10As we have said before, that it is immoral to harm the countries of the world with economic sanctions to colonize them.
02:20As they have tried for 65 years against Cuba, as they have tried and are trying to do against Venezuela or against Nicaragua or Russia or China or the Democratic Republic of Korea or against other peoples of the world, it is a mistake.
02:38In turn, the Venezuelan head of state denounced the beginning of a media campaign that seeks to promote a false narrative of an alleged escalation of crime and delinquency in the country.
02:51Because they want to cover up the achievements and the struggles against the criminal gangs, many of them supported from abroad and they're making a campaign now that the return with the return of the migrants, the robberies are back.
03:07The insecurity is back. They're giving it a lot of volume in the social networks.
03:12They're even making little videos saying that they stole the clothes, that they did such and such a thing.
03:18But the daily achievements of the security forces of the state, of the quadrants in the social networks, of the daily achievements, that they did such a thing to him.
03:27But the daily achievements of the state security forces, of the quadrants in the social networks, of the daily achievements.
03:34That is why I call our people to the powerful police military fusion to intensify the fight against criminal gangs and guarantee peace, security and protection to all the neighbors and all our people to continue moving forward.
03:53And under the slogan United for the Great Homeland, Honduras welcomes the leaders who will participate in the upcoming 9th summit in the community of Latin American and Caribbean states.
04:07The 9th CELAC summit will be held next April 9th at the Central Bank of Honduras building in Tegucigalpa with the participation of at least 12 leaders and other representatives of the 33 member countries of the community.
04:18In this regard, at least 5,000 members of the National Police Force and 2,000 members of the Armed Forces will guarantee order, ability and protection of citizens and foreign guests at the summit.
04:30It should be noted that during the summit, the Honduran Presidency of Maracastro will hand over the pro-tempered Presidency of CELAC to her Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro.
04:48And the Peace Congress was held in Colombia, a space in which social organizations analyzed the political scenarios in the face of the armed conflict.
04:57A correspondent, Antobar, has the details.
04:59In the Department of the Southwest of Colombia, the so-called dissidents of the ELN, Camineros del Sur, delivered 585 units of war material in a public event headed by President Gustavo Petro.
05:17Two years ago, we were in Cartagena with Álvaro Jiménez to ask you for permission to speak at the time with the ELN's Comunero Front.
05:32They wanted to tell us, and the country, that they wanted a peace process.
05:41They told us that yes, we understood that request, but we will try to do our best to ensure that it would not mean a break in the touch with the ELN,
05:51and that meant that from then on we began to work within that process.
05:57This structure has around 300 men who separated from the ELN and began a process of rapprochement and dialogue with the Colombian government.
06:14The parties agreed in this process to cease fire once this front is concentrated in the temporary location zones,
06:20located in the municipalities of Somaniego and Gauchaves in the Department of Norino.
06:25For analysts, this activity represents a glimmer of hope in the face of questions about the total peace that has not yielded the expected results.
06:33It is a small fact, but it must be considered with transcendence, with importance in a period when total peace is going through a very judicious review of different sectors.
06:47Let us hope that with this factor of view of all the processes that exist, of all the boards that exist,
06:54can be made, and that it can be defined with each board what can really be achieved with each organization in march with certainty and security towards this place.
07:08Meanwhile, another step in the search for peace in the country was taken in the city of Bogota,
07:22where more than 150 national and international social organizations held a Congress for Peace,
07:27seeking common ground to find a political solution to the current social and armed conflict and to promote the creation of a social movement for peace,
07:35urging both the government and the ELN insurgency to return to the dialogue table,
07:40in addition to providing security and protection guarantees for the civilian population and respect for international humanitarian law.
07:47It is very important that we have gathered together peace-building organizations
07:55and that we have decided to coordinate ourselves better in order to surround the construction of peace.
08:06We have decided that peace will be our candidate in the 2026 elections, so we are all ready to be in the campaign.
08:12To influence from peace so that the tables that are in difficulties or that have broken down can be retaken again,
08:22and those that still exist, to surround and accompany them.
08:33In the face of the violence that continues to strike the most vulnerable population,
08:38civil society does not tire of organizing itself, calling the attention of the armed actors and the state
08:44to find a comprehensive and dialogue-based solution to the difficulties surrounding peace in the country.
08:55We have now our first break coming up.

09:35Welcome back.
09:40In Palestine, the Ministry of Health warned about the deterioration of sanitary conditions,
09:45lack of food, vaccines, and drinking water.
09:47The Gazan Health authorities denounced that Israel has prevented the entry of essential vaccines,
09:52preventing the control of epidemic outbreaks.
09:54The access to drinking water has become another factor in the situation in which Gazans live in life,
10:01given the interruption of the supply of this water resource,
10:05which has triggered health and environmental risks.
10:08Also, according to the Health Agency, due to the inhumane closure of crossings
10:12and the food entry ban imposed by Israel, the food situation in the coastal enclave is dire,
10:17affecting more than 2 million people at risk of malnutrition.
10:24In this context, a charity has distributed food to war-weary Palestinians in war-torn northern Gaza
10:31amid growing concern about a possible famine in the Strip.
10:35Gaza's population of more than 2 million people is currently dependent on international aid.
10:41In this regard, aid groups continue to express concern that the gains made during the six-week ceasefire
10:46to avert famine in parts of the Strip have been diminishing as Israel continues to block aid from entering Gaza.
10:53Palestinians in Gaza struggle to feed their families amid Israeli blockade.
10:57On humanitarian aid, many have turned to charities to get food for their children.
11:02I came to get lunch from the charity because the situation in Gaza is generally catastrophic and difficult,
11:12and my situation is below zero.
11:14I don't have anything to buy any of my needs, and what is available is very expensive.
11:20Life is expensive.
11:25There is no food, no drink, no work.
11:27There is no life at all.
11:29People are unable to provide for the necessities of life and livelihood, unable to buy.
11:34A meal costs 60 to 70 shekels.
11:36If you work, you barely earn 10 to 20 shekels, and that's if you find work.
11:42Mount Canlaon, a prominent active volcano in the Philippines, erupted on Tuesday morning,
12:01spewing a massive ash bloom approximately 4,000 meters into the sky.
12:05The eruption occurred on Negros Island, prompting concern about ashfall in nearby villages.
12:10Despite the significant ash cloud, there were no immediate reports of casualties.
12:15However, health concerns remain due to the potential respiratory issues and other hazards associated with ashfall.
12:21Mount Canlaon is currently on alert level 3, indicating a heightened risk of further eruptions.
12:26The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has restricted access to the six-kilometer danger zone around the volcano.
12:38And the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported that the death toll from torrential rains in Kinshasa over the weekend rose to 33.
12:46In a statement, the Congolese Ministry of the Interior also reported that 46 people had been hospitalized
12:51and that more than 200 homes had been flooded after the Ingelid River overflowed its banks.
12:57The climatic phenomenon has caused difficulties for the inhabitants of the city, such as the interruption of the flow of drinking water
13:03and the cutting of power in different areas.
13:06So far, the authorities have opened four reception centers in the city, where they have received about 300 families.
13:16And heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms have caused widespread flooding across several states in the U.S. Midwest and Southeast.
13:23In Ohio, the Ohio River reached its highest level since 2018, cresting over 20 meters in Greater Cincinnati.
13:30Kentucky faced catastrophic flooding with evacuations ordered in multiple areas.
13:34In Tennessee, residents in Dyersburg were rescued by boat as floodwaters in undated homes.
13:41Meanwhile, Southeast Missouri experienced severe road flooding, with authorities warning against crossing submerged roads.
13:47The flooding has disrupted daily life, forcing evacuations and road closures.
13:51The situation remains critical as communities continue to deal with the aftermath of the severe weather.

14:15Welcome back.
14:38On Tuesday, China's Ministry of Commerce said it would fight to the end and take countermeasures against the United States to safeguard its interests after President Trump threatened an addition of 50% tariff on Chinese imports.
14:50Through a statement read out on CCTV, the Ministry of Commerce said that the United States' imposition of so-called reciprocal tariffs on China is completely groundless and is a typical unilateral bullying practice.
15:01The countermeasures China has taken are aimed at safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests and maintaining the normal international trade order.
15:09Trump's threat Monday of additional tariffs on China raised fresh concerns that his drive to rebalance the global economy could intensify a financially destructive trade war.
15:18Stock markets from Tokyo to New York have become more unstable as the tariff war worsens.
15:24And in Bolivia, President Luis Arce rejected the unilateral increase in tariffs imposed by the U.S. government and warned that such measures could lead to an international recession.
15:39Our correspondent Freddy Morales with the details.
15:43According to analysts, the 10% tariff increase imposed by the U.S. government on Bolivia will not cause major damage due to the current low level of exports.
15:532%, of which we are talking about $208 million, of which minerals and food are the strongest, in terms of minerals you can look for other markets such as China, Europe.
16:04In the topic of tropicalized quinoa you can look for alternative markets such as the European market or the Asian market.
16:12It is even claimed that the general increase in tariffs imposed by that government may affect it internally.
16:23We are seeing a Mexico and a Canada that have started to stop exporting such basic things as oil.
16:27Mexico stopped exporting 1.4 million barrels of oil and Canada 4 million barrels of oil.
16:32Texas is at 50% refining because Mexican oil is not arriving.
16:41Meanwhile, the Bolivian government rejected the 10% tariff increase imposed on Bolivian exports.
16:47We totally reject the imposition of tariffs that have no technical study behind them.
17:02It is a purely political decision that affects many countries.
17:05What we, and the national government, have done is to open new markets.
17:17We are opening the Chilean market for the export of meat and milk.
17:20We have opened the markets of the BRICS countries for Bolivia.
17:23We are in the process of completing all the procedures to fully join MERCOSUR.
17:30President Arce warned that the general increase in tariffs decided by the United States
17:39could have negative repercussions at the international level.
17:42It is very likely that this type of tariffs will have worldwide consequences.
17:49In other words, one could even expect a worldwide recession because of everything that is being done by the United States
17:56in an attempt to maintain its economic leadership in the face of an emerging bloc that is clearly demonstrating its potential.
18:07According to the International Trade Institute, last year, 263 Bolivian products were exported to the United States for a value of $224 million.
18:18The main ones are tin, chestnuts, and quinoa.
18:21But this country's purchases of products from the United States are more than twice what it exports.
18:26Purchases reached $781 million.
18:29The purchases come to $781 million.
18:33Freddie Morales, Telesur, Bolivia.
18:38The US Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration on Monday to use a 19th century wartime law to deport Venezuelan migrants
18:45but also ruled that the migrants must get a court hearing before they are taken from the United States.
18:50The court's action appears to bar the administration from immediately resuming the flights that last month carried hundreds of migrants to a notorious prison in El Salvador.
18:59The flights came soon after President Donald Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act for the first time since World War II
19:06to justify the deportations under a presidential proclamation calling the Tren d'Aragwagan an invading force.
19:12The court ruling did not say anything about the flights which took off without providing the hearing the justices now say is necessary.
19:20And on Monday, Colosal Biosciences, a US company that aims to bring back lost species, unveiled two genetically engineered wolves that may resemble extinct dire wolves.
19:36According to Colosal researchers, the wolf pups, which range in age from 3 to 6 months old, have long white hair.
19:43Muscular jaws are already weighting at around 80 pounds, on track to reach 140 pounds at maturity.
19:49Dire wolves, which went extinct more than 10,000 years ago, are much larger than gray wolves, their closest living relatives today.
19:56However, independent scientists said this latest effort doesn't mean dire wolves are coming back to North American grasslands any time soon.
20:04It must be noted that Colosal had previously announced similar projects to genetically alter cells from living species
20:09to create animals resembling extinct holy mammoths, dodos, and others.
20:16So, the extinction to us is, you know, recreating these phenotypes.
20:21So, a gray wolf is the closest living relative of a dire wolf.
20:25They're genetically really similar, 99.5% similar.
20:29And phenotypically, their morphology is also similar.
20:33Only dire wolves are larger, more muscular, and have these light colored coats and other things that we can see from the fossils.
20:40And so we targeted DNA sequence variants that we believe lead to those traits.
20:47And then we edited gray wolf cells to contain those dire wolf DNA variants.
20:53And then we cloned those cells and created our dire wolves.
20:57To de-extinct something would be to bring that evolutionary lineage back into existence.
21:02And that would cause a gap where that that species.
21:07There's a gap when it isn't. And now that species exists again.
21:10Hearing to make superficially, superficially resemble a dire wolf.
21:20Or at least what we think dire wolves might have looked like.
21:25Because we're not really sure what that is either.
21:27And this Monday in France, a thick cloud of smoke covered moisture of the sky after a fire broke out at a recycling center north of Paris.
21:35There were no fatalities in the incident.
21:37The fire destroyed the recycling center located near the Clichy Gate northeast of the city.
21:42The material stored at the time of the fire caused a thick cloud of black smoke to spread across the sky for their part.
21:48The firefighters called on the public not to pass through the affected area to allow the emergency services to do their work.
21:54Like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
