00:09Let's welcome in Dan Dibley, Mark Willard.
00:12It is the crossover.
00:13Our guys.
00:14Hello, gentlemen.
00:15Big day today.
00:16Oh yeah.
00:17It's the big day.
00:18It's the big day.
00:19We're going to win the big days.
00:20And this is win the big days.
00:22You guys are great.
00:23That's my Nehigian.
00:24But this is a big day.
00:25And the last time we had a big day, they won the big day.
00:27And, you know, the chef had to put up 52 to get it done.
00:31And he did.
00:32And I was sharing this yesterday with Mark.
00:34Sonny, what do you think the Warrior's record is when Steph has 50 or more points?
00:40They've played 15 games in the regular year in the association.
00:46What is the Warrior record when the chef goes for 50 points or more?
00:51Here's the music.
00:52I'm already mad that you don't know because it means you weren't listening.
00:58I listened to Curve.
00:59I'm about to give y'all some love.
01:00Eight and seven.
01:01Mark guessed.
01:02And Mark got it.
01:03Bang.
01:04Bang!
01:05It was a Mike Green.
01:06Eight and seven.
01:07Nine and six.
01:08Hit him again.
01:09Seven and eight.
01:10Hit him again.
01:11Eleven and four.
01:12Hit him again.
01:13Five and ten.
01:14Hit him again.
01:15Six and nine.
01:16Hit him again.
01:17Seven and eight.
01:18Hit him again.
01:19I'm a P1.
01:20Seven and one.
01:21Hit him again.
01:22Eleven and four.
01:23Hit him again.
01:24Seven and five.
01:25Seven and six.
01:26Hit him again.
01:27Eight and seven.
01:28Hit him again.
01:29Fourteen and one.
01:30Hit him again.
01:31Three and twelve.
01:32Hit him again.
01:33Four and eleven.
01:34Is this a bit?
01:35No, this is awesome.
01:36Eight and seven.
01:37Hit him again.
01:38You guys are guessing things for the day.
01:39Ten and five.
01:40Hey!
01:41My two guys.
01:42Wow.
01:43He guessed the same thing like eight times.
01:44Why did that count?
01:45Like his eleven and four?
01:46No.
01:47What about eleven and four?
01:48Oh, man.
01:49What about eleven, three, and one on five and O home, five and five road when the chef
01:56has 50 or more points.
01:58I did think it was interesting and I'm doing, I'm going through the process of doing a deep
02:03dive, a deep non wilt dive in, cause you know, wilt that one year had, I think it was 52
02:10games where he had 50 or more, including a Hondo and in his third year in the league.
02:15But if you take out the wilt fifties, like what are the records of players and their
02:20teams when they have 50 points?
02:22And so I looked at Steph and ten and five and I thought, wow, you know, you would figure
02:27that when a guy goes for 50 or more, they're going to win that game.
02:31But you know, the joker the other night, 61, a loser is loser.
02:37I saw Mike Malone's press conferences last night and somebody, I think they're O and
02:42four when Jokic scores 50 or more.
02:46And he was asked about it and he really said, you know, I, I never know really what to make
02:51of that.
02:52You know?
02:53And he said, you know what though?
02:54Next game, when he gets to 49, I'll sub him out.
02:57Willard, I brought you up, I said, Willard didn't like what Denver did yesterday.
03:02Well, I, I guess something's good.
03:04Some fadangling's going on.
03:06Uh, look, we, we sort of, we can feel it coming.
03:10I don't know if you watch, well, so the Spurs are coming to Denver and they've played double
03:16overtime and everybody like, did you see how many minutes?
03:19This is the number.
03:20Nobody.
03:21That's three minutes.
03:22That's incredible.
03:23And, and he wasn't the only one.
03:24Um, Denver had a very short bench that night and I, and I thought to myself, I go, ah,
03:29they're like, somebody's sitting out this game.
03:32And then, uh, I saw Denver was a home 10 point favorite to the San Antonio Spurs.
03:39And the way the Spurs playing right now, I'm like, that's a little light.
03:42I'm gonna wait though.
03:43Cause I bet people are out and then bang, like in one moment, just about 40 minutes
03:48before the game spread falls from 10 to two and you look at the injury report and it's
03:54like, Oh my God, they're sitting everybody except for Russ.
03:57And he missed another layup.
03:58Oh my God.
03:59It was as if they were punishing him for his behavior the night before.
04:04So it's like you, you play again.
04:06The rest of you.
04:07Mike Malone said Russell came to him like I'm playing coach.
04:09Of course he did.
04:10Of course he did.
04:12That's the most Russ thing ever.
04:13No, I wasn't mad at him because in theory that one only hurts them.
04:20You know what I mean?
04:21I, I, I don't, I can scratch my head about it, but if they don't care about the three
04:27versus the four, the four versus the three, that's, that's, that's up to them.
04:33I think the issue is, are they so confident that they won't fall to five?
04:42Um, maybe, maybe, but at the same time, I don't even know.
04:47Like I sort of feel like that's what teams are doing now.
04:50They've stopped with the whole, are we confident?
04:53And they are just totally committed to the bigger picture is the end.
04:59But Kurt told you all is playoff time.
05:01No, I know.
05:02But then again, they also gave Steph an emotional wellness night a week and a half ago.
05:07So like, they're very committed to, and it's different for the Warriors because they don't
05:12have a seed locked up.
05:14Denver's going to be a seed.
05:16And they got the tiebreakers.
05:17Right.
05:18Denver's going to be in.
05:19And so I think teams are just like, I'd rather be the five and healthy than the four and
05:24exhausted.
05:25Now, do you two real quick here have a problem with me?
05:27I told Stony out the gate today's show, and I love Luca.
05:31You guys know I'm a Luca fan.
05:33I'm afraid or was more afraid of the AD iteration of the Lakers because of they had that one
05:39to punch a big and LeBron doing what he does.
05:43I just feel like, and they got to back me up on this, that this version of the Lakers
05:47can be had because Luca is not that shot altering guy down low dibs to give you.
05:54You know what I mean?
05:55It's like what two of the same thing as opposed to AD was ketchup and mustard.
05:59Yeah, I get that.
06:02At the same time, like he's a bad boy.
06:04Yeah.
06:05And what AD did, I think on defense was more impactful than what Luca can do on offense.
06:09And you know, Luca is a bucket getter, but I look at the warrior team right now and what
06:14they did against Memphis.
06:15And I think that that's how you're going to have to beat LA.
06:17You're going to have to go out there and get one 20.
06:20I don't know defensively if you have enough to stop LeBron, stop Luca, stop Austin.
06:26So this one feels to me like the Warriors get into more of a track me like Houston.
06:31You can beat them one on two, one on one.
06:33I don't know if you could do that against LA.
06:36This is actually this is like the question you just asked is similar to where we're going
06:40to.
06:41We're going to start our conversation today, which is just since the deadline and mainly
06:47for the Warriors, who are also a different team, these two teams haven't played each
06:52other before.
06:53Zero.
06:54Like that's where my mind is tonight.
06:55These two teams have not forget all the history.
06:58These two teams have not played each other yet.
07:00And so with the Warriors being bolstered and then the Lakers changing, are the Lakers
07:06who have had the Warriors number for the last couple of years, are they now an easier target
07:11or a harder one?
07:13How would you guys answer that?
07:14I think it's easier.
07:15And, and, and, you know, Luca's Lakers are barely over 500.
07:20They're barely over 500.
07:21I know that Jimmy and Steph, when they play, they're 18 and two.
07:25So I did see a stat when Luca plays, they're 14 and eight because he's met like when he
07:32got there, they didn't.
07:34But the, the, the points, uh, the points, I don't know.
07:39That's why I'm going to watch the game that seriously, I mean, I don't know how it's going
07:44to look again.
07:45Mark's right.
07:46I don't know.
07:47But A.D. was a problem.
07:48Okay.
07:49On the defensive end are the Warriors.
07:51For sure.
07:52Yeah.
07:53One of the things that I started thinking about late last night is are the Warriors
07:57really going?
07:58I don't know what the outcomes of the game games are going to be, but are you telling
08:03me that Butler, Green and Curry are both, are all three going to play, let's say 35
08:08minutes a night back to back all three of them?
08:11My answer was hell yes.
08:13Not over these next 28 hours.
08:14They're not, I wouldn't think that would, I don't think over the next 28 hours, I get
08:21where you're coming from.
08:22So you're saying wellbeing is more important than what I deem in the standings.
08:27Can you, can the Warriors afford that?
08:30They're not sitting them, but I don't think you're going to push them either.
08:34You know?
08:35I mean, look, it's also so night to night, like what if they win tonight now that has
08:42a big bearing on, I think they've got to split tonight and tomorrow.
08:48That would be ideal.
08:49I mean, 2-0 obviously, but boy, I mean, this is one of those things where I get that you
08:55can be optimistic, but it's just one of those things where I'm looking at, okay, they've
08:59been on the road for two weeks.
09:00So this is the last game of their road trip.
09:04They're playing the Lakers who have been off since Sunday and they're totally healthy.
09:09Okay.
09:10Then they got to come back tomorrow and Mike Malone just made sure his team's going to
09:14be well rested by resting everybody yesterday that they get, yes, it's a home game, but
09:20it's going to feel like a road game except for the atmosphere.
09:22I mean, the Nuggets, the Nuggets are probably already here.
09:25Yeah, exactly.
09:26And so four seasons, like taking a snapshot, taking leads you to, but this, this is two
09:34really hard games.
09:36And even under the best case scenario, it'd be tough to go 2-0, especially where they
09:41are now.
09:42Haven't been on the road for two weeks.
09:45That's a real 2-0 is a hell of a challenge.
09:48Yeah.
09:49And one and one would be great.
09:50You know, you go one and one and then you're home and you get to sleep in your own bed
09:54and you get Houston in and you, you, you try what you can do against Houston.
09:57And if you go two and two in the four game gauntlet, you feel pretty good about it.
10:01And actually Mark had said on our show that if they go three and one, he's going to wear
10:06face paint on Monday.
10:07I heard that.
10:08That's true.
10:09I forgot to bring it up.
10:10One side blue, one side gold.
10:12Yeah.
10:13And you're serious?
10:14Like putty?
10:15I mean, whatever I go find.
10:16I've never shopped for face paint before.
10:19Has the paint ever been, face ever been painted before?
10:22I mean, probably when I was like a little kid at a carnival, yeah, I'm sure I did that.
10:28Remember when they were going to a New Jersey Devils game and putty painted his face red
10:34and green or red and blue.
10:37And then Elaine had a breakup with him.
10:40So you should check with Christy, check with Christy.
10:43No, I've never done it for a game.
10:44I've never like, you know what I mean?
10:46There's that old commercial where it's like, the guy comes out, he's got body paint, face
10:51paint and his friends are like, dude, like tap it down a little bit.
10:56I've never done it to a game, but no, I would, I would gladly do it on Monday if they go
11:03three and one this week.
11:04That's a hell of a week if they go three and one.
11:06Yeah.
11:07And a split and then a win over Houston would be three and one.
11:10And so, I mean, it's very much in play and the Memphis win was something else.
11:15And you know, tonight I do think you're right, Stiney, about the Lakers and the spot where
11:20the Lakers are rested and you're wrapping up a two week road trip in all your days,
11:25Stiney, as a warrior beat reporter and you were on the road and all that.
11:29Do you remember any of these kind of trips where you were out there for like 10 days
11:34or 14 days and you're on the beat and you're doing Cocoa Times or it was probably post
11:40Democrat for you, but you know, you're out there on the grind and you know, Brian Winters
11:45has lost, you know, 11 of 12 or Dave Cowens has dropped 13 of 14 and you know, whoever
11:52it was, do you remember a time where you were on one of these road trips?
11:55Yeah.
11:56It sucks.
11:57Yeah.
11:58I mean, it's brutal.
11:59It is.
12:00Now you guys get to bring clothes and do you like find a laundromat or like, how do you
12:04navigate a 14 day trip as a human being?
12:08Why is it brutal?
12:10It's, it's exhausting to ask now because it would be like, now this one was different
12:17because they had five days in Miami.
12:19So maybe that'll help them.
12:20Yeah.
12:21It's just because the Warriors would play on a Thursday night and the game would be
12:27at 730.
12:28It would be over at 10.
12:30I'd be done.
12:31Write my story at 12.
12:33You know, it's tough to go right to sleep at 12.
12:36So you know, I probably got to bed at two.
12:38Another networking appointment.
12:39And then, and then Mark, I probably had to get up at six to take a, the earliest flight
12:45to the next city where they were going to practice.
12:47I had to get to practice by the, I'm not complaining Mouth.
12:51I'm just explaining.
12:53Here's the other, here's the other 1998 if I may, and you probably were on the beat 1998.
12:58It was a PJ Carlissimo led warrior team that went 19 and 63.
13:03Sure.
13:04You had a Friday night at Detroit.
13:06I think they got beat.
13:08Yeah.
13:09Saturday night at Chicago.
13:10They lost that one.
13:11I'm pretty sure.
13:12Monday at Minnesota, that was the one they thought they could get, but I don't think
13:15they did.
13:16Nope.
13:17They didn't.
13:18They lost by 16.
13:19Wednesday at Milwaukee.
13:20Yeah.
13:21That was a loss.
13:22They didn't do well in Milwaukee.
13:23Lost by six.
13:24Friday at Atlanta.
13:27They might've won that game.
13:28No, no, no.
13:29You stick with the bit.
13:30They lost.
13:31Yeah.
13:32They can't beat Atlanta.
13:33And then Saturday at Philly, which was the 10th of what would be a 14 game losing skid.
13:39And you're going from flight to flight, room to room, practice to practice for a team.
13:44They stunk.
13:46You're right.
13:47You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco, always live on the
13:51free Odyssey app and now broadcasting from Laughing Monk Studios.
13:55Laughing Monk, righteously brewed in San Francisco.
13:57I will tell you something that is a factor.
14:01And that is when you're on the road for a while, you tend to get a little bit depressed
14:07because you realize you've been away from your family for coming up on two weeks.
14:12The guys who have kids are itchy to get back.
14:15They feel guilty.
14:18They do feel guilty.
14:19Guilty.
14:20Go ahead and say it.
14:21And it's just, it can be a bummer.
14:24I know that I'm not Steph Curry, but there were times when I'd find myself in Milwaukee
14:30being gone for eight days, covered a 19 and 63 team saying, what am I doing?
14:35I got young kids at home and this is a joke.
14:38I get it.
14:39Hell with the kids.
14:40Yeah.
14:41And just one kid at a time.
14:42I wonder if these road trips are like Vegas at all, which in other words, it's really
14:46fun when you're on your way out.
14:47Oh, you're ready to go.
14:48And then on your way back, you're super depressed and you're like, what am I doing with my life?
14:52That's most trips to Vegas.
14:54So I wonder if it's like that, because if you pitch that to me right now, just in the
14:58moment that I sit in right now, if you're like, would you like an all expense?
15:03I don't care where you go.
15:05Give me a two weeks away with like, yes.
15:08Just work responsibility.
15:09You don't need to feed anyone, drive anyone.
15:13You don't need to put anyone to bed.
15:15You don't need to do any laundry.
15:17You don't need to do any of that.
15:18I'm like, sign me up, take me to Kentucky.
15:24I don't care where we go.
15:27It sounds amazing.
15:29I do remember, I had a small one back then and I do remember, I'd check into a hotel
15:35in LA and I would open the door and I would see a big empty room with a big bed.
15:42And I'd think, oh my God, this is so great.
15:45So good.
15:46So great.
15:47And then a week later, you're like, I got to get home.
15:53This is now two weeks and the road trip that I laid out for you from 98 where, yeah, they
15:57went oh and six, it was a six games in nine nights and this is six games in 14 nights.
16:04And so, yeah, to your point, Stiney, about the depression and the angst about getting
16:09home yet national TV, it's LeBron V Steph, everything and more.
16:17And Stiney, I want to get your thoughts on this because I threw this out on our show
16:21thread about the LeBron versus Steph rivalry.
16:25And I know it's not just one V one, but where do you put it all time in the pantheon of
16:31rivalries?
16:32Because the only one I can think about that might be supreme to it would be Larry Bird
16:38against Magic Johnson.
16:40But this one's got to be really close to being as good, if not better.
16:44Well, I would say number one is probably Russell Chamberlain.
16:48Number two to me is Bird Magic.
16:50You know, it's funny as I'm watching that Celtics documentary, Celtic City or Celtics
16:54Town, and it is amazing.
16:59All the circumstances that set up to have Bird, you know, Bird end up in Boston, Magic
17:06end up in L.A., they just played in the finals.
17:09They it was just you can't have scripted a better creation to create interest in the
17:16NBA, Steph.
17:18But Bird and Magic also one thing they were saying on the show is that the Boston Celtics
17:24rivalry actually was the Sixers because that's the team that played four times a year and
17:28every postseason.
17:30So they didn't play the Lakers a lot.
17:32I think somebody said 34 times total.
17:36Steph and LeBron, I mean.
17:40Number three, Jordan didn't really have one day, not one singular one.
17:45No, I mean, he had like older Jordan against everyone.
17:48Yeah, right.
17:49Older Magic.
17:50It was, you know, Stockton Malone, Drexler, Dominique, right.
17:54Dominique early.
17:55It was the Pistons.
17:56But that wasn't like Jordan versus Isaiah was Jordan against, you know, Lambeer and
18:01Mahorn and Chuck Daly and the whole, you know, Dumars and the whole cadre of Pistons.
18:06So he beat everybody.
18:07I put it third, third behind those two.
18:10Interesting about Russell Chamberlain.
18:12And, you know, I love the old basketball, but there was only eight teams at the time.
18:18And that actually could add to the rivalry because you played that certain teams eight
18:23times a year.
18:24Right.
18:25And also the fact that like Wilt Chamberlain was the singular biggest offensive force in
18:31history against the best defensive player in history.
18:35So the fact that those two collided, like you're saying, eight times a year plus five
18:40or six in the playoffs.
18:42And, you know, Bill had help and Wilt really didn't.
18:44So I would give those two the nod over LeBron and Steph simply because, yeah, it was
18:50Russell and Chamberlain.
18:51They were two behemoths back in the day and it was just historic.
18:56Bird and Magic came out at the exact same time, had history, went to opposite coasts.
19:02Both were big guys, 6'9", 6'10", and could do everything.
19:06LeBron and Steph, they're totally different players.
19:10But no, it's a huge rivalry.
19:12Fear for the league.
19:13Curry came out of nowhere.
19:14Well, the fear for the league is that we like try to look at the board right now and find
19:18out who's next.
19:20Anthony Edwards.
19:21And what?
19:22I wanted to say Ja, but...
19:24Yeah, they're not in the same conference.
19:26Jokic?
19:27I actually...
19:28You notice the thread through every name that these two dinosaurs just brought up is
19:33that all of them are American born.
19:37Oh, man.
19:37We just kind of...
19:38Are Luka and Jokic, are they off the table?
19:41Is Giannis off the table in this conversation?
19:44They shouldn't be.
19:45No, I actually, if I had to predict the next one...
19:49Yeah, this is great, because I wrote down three on our show thread.
19:52One's in Texas.
19:54It would be Wembenyama, Cooper, Flagg.
19:58They're going to be teammates.
19:59Yeah.
20:00Well, then that's a problem.
20:01Yeah.
20:01It's so sad.
20:02They've got a nice little one, two, three, four purge.
20:05I was putting a lot on Cooper, Flagg.
20:07The three I threw out were Ant against SGA, Western Conference, Mitchell versus Tatum,
20:15Eastern Conference, Donovan and JT.
20:18Mitchell's not good enough.
20:19Yeah, I got it.
20:20Mitchell's not good enough.
20:21We'll see.
20:22I mean, they're the one seed right now and they might...
20:23He's a good player.
20:24But he's not...
20:25Those two might meet in the Eastern Conference finals.
20:28And the other one was Luka versus Jokic.
20:30Shout out to Euros, where Jokic in Denver and Luka with the Lakers.
20:35But Mark's point, I do think is well made about after these two are gone.
20:40And remember when Magic and Larry left, then you did have Kobe, but you had Iverson kind
20:47of in that breach and Tracy McGrady and you didn't really have that same level of superstars
20:53rise up.
20:54And so we might be looking at that same sort of a void.
20:57Man.
20:58Yeah, it's going to be up to...
20:59It's going to be...
21:00I mean, Jokic is so good and Luka is so good.
21:05Because you've got time.
21:06I think what Steph and LeBron are showing us right now is that they're not done yet.
21:11No doubt.
21:12They're not done yet.
21:13And I know the NBA doesn't want them to meet in the first round.
21:15No, they don't.
21:16They may not have a choice.
21:17Is that better than any round though?
21:18Yeah.
21:19Right.
21:20Right.
21:21That's a great question.
21:22Because there's very, very little chance I think that...
21:23Are both of them going to advance and then play each other?
21:25I don't know about that, but they're still going to be the centerpieces of what people
21:30are kind of thinking about.
21:32And then over those next two years, as they do age out, then where are some of these stars
21:37we're talking about?
21:38Man.
21:39Oh, man.
21:40Some of them actually are going to start to...
21:41Like are Jokic and Giannis actually on the back half of their career by then?
21:44I think Giannis is starting to...
21:45He's on that streak.
21:46You know, I look also like a name...
21:47I mean, does Cade Cunningham keep coming up?
21:50No, he's a bad...
21:51That's a hell of a player.
21:52He's a bad dude.
21:53Yeah.
21:54People are like, man.
21:55He's a hell of a player.
21:56We got a meeting today.
21:57Yeah, but we got one trivia question, Sonny.
21:58Oh, you do?
21:59Yeah, long one too.
22:00Yeah, long meeting.
22:01Curry Butler's inception in a warrior uniform.
22:04You're all right, Sonny.
22:05Curry can't be the answer.
22:06Which warrior has the best three-point percentage on wide-open threes?
22:10Oh, I already know.
22:11I listened to your show.
22:12I paid a second.
22:13I listened to your show.
22:14All right.
22:15Dibley and Willard.
22:16No, they're going to bring it home.
22:17Moses Moody.
22:18Yeah.
22:19Whoa.
22:20Yeah.
22:21No, it's GP too.
22:22No, but he's inactive.
22:23Oh, man.
22:24Come on.
22:25You guys were talking about who you would want shooting the wide-open three.
22:26Man.
22:27But Evan went to the lab and got the actual numbers.
22:28Yeah.
22:29You said Moody.
22:30And you were right.
22:32No, he's not.
22:33I am.
22:34No, but he didn't get enough words because you guys started talking about NBA players
22:38from 1978.
22:39And the boss would prefer you here.
22:40And he got bored.
22:41And now he's got words.
22:42He's got more words.
22:43Get ready to cut this, Brandy.
22:44I've never met anybody.
22:45Don't do this, Willard.
22:46What is going on here?
22:47Remember when George Mikan would get that ball at the high post?
22:53It's a filibuster.
22:54Back then, most of the games were only on radio.
22:59What kind of a station would they be on?
23:0295-7.
23:03This didn't exist.
23:04The meeting.
