00:00And now it's time for the weekend preview brought to you by Three Chimneys.
00:11We're not only going to look at this weekend, again it's kind of quiet with no big races
00:16coming up so far as preps for the Breeders' Cup, we're also going to take a look at a
00:19couple of the Breeders' Cup races, give you some more thoughts on that as we go down the
00:23action of what is going to take place at Keeneland in two and a half weeks.
00:26At Aqueduct on Saturday, Belmont at Aqueduct, the Hill Prince and the Noble Damsel are on
00:31the scorecard, their graded races on the turf, and the Maryland Million will be run this
00:36weekend at Laurel.
00:37But I think, Zoe, the most interesting action of the weekend is taking place at Keeneland.
00:41First of all, Keeneland is featuring the Raven Run, Sakes of Lexus Raven Run, a Grade 2 race.
00:47Very interesting horse in there in Fingal's Cave, trained by Dave Dock.
00:50I'm really interested to see how this horse does.
00:53Four for four, an undefeated New York Red, but has never faced off against open company
00:57before.
00:58What do you know about Fingal's Cave?
00:59Well, she's a very good filly indeed, and I actually got a chance to speak to Dave Donk
01:03about her.
01:04There are a lot of nominations in here because she's a New York Red and she's purely won
01:08her earnings in restricted races.
01:11Those don't count, but I'm pretty sure she's going to get in.
01:14Dave's pretty sure she's going to get in, so that shouldn't be a problem.
01:18And speaking to Dave, he's not scared about facing older.
01:21Shameless plug to my good friend, Marette Farrell, who purchased this Carpe Diem filly
01:25for not much money, just $75,000 at the OBS April sale, and she's done nothing but win
01:32ever since.
01:33Short, long, muddy, fast track.
01:36She's tactical.
01:38I personally think she might be a better filly around one turn rather than two.
01:43Her owner, Ali Fyfe, is a Scotsman, a good friend of mine, a guy with the best shoes
01:48you'll ever see in your life.
01:50If you see some guy walking around Keeneland with a fancy pair of shoes on, you can bet
01:53your life it's Ali Fyfe.
01:56And he's a guy who's put a lot of money into the game, and this most definitely is his
02:01best filly.
02:02Originally, she was purchased from Sequel Stables at the OBS sale.
02:08She was named Out of Money Honey, which we thought was a great name for her.
02:13And I think Ali's wife liked it as well, but Ali didn't like it.
02:16So he renamed her Fingals Kay.
02:18And it's proven to be good, not bad luck at all.
02:22And she'll have to deal with Wicked Halo, a winner of three straight races, including
02:25the grade two priors.
02:26Now, a caveat, we're giving these horses out and talking about these races.
02:31Four of the entries are drawn, so if one of these horses doesn't show up in the race,
02:35don't blame us.
02:36We're just trying to get our schedule done and get everything done in time.
02:39Also Saturday at Keeneland is the Perryville.
02:42The obvious favor in there will be Gunite, the winner of last year's grade one hopeful.
02:46Surprisingly, this is not a graded race, certainly looks like on paper and the type of horses
02:50lining up where that should be.
02:52But Artorias is in there as well.
02:54Remember this horse won the Curlin Stakes, came back in the Travers, ran sixth, has had
02:58a fresh name for Chad Brown since the Travers.
03:00Zoe, what do you know about Artorias?
03:02He runs well fresh and he's a big, beautiful looking son of Arrogate.
03:07You see this here?
03:08It's Arrogate right there.
03:11That's a World Cup right there.
03:12Big beautiful son of Arrogate.
03:13Just recently worked with Jack Christopher, so keeping the best company in the morning
03:17for Chad Brown and he's got to be one of the favorites going in there.
03:22Would you not think, Randy?
03:23Yeah, I'm a little surprised that Steve Asmussen didn't run Gunite in the Dirt Mile.
03:29He was originally considered to be one of the contenders for the Dirt Mile and I thought
03:33he would at least be in with a shot because he's in outstanding form right now.
03:37So a little surprised that he's going in this race instead of the Dirt Mile.
03:41And one more note, something you said earlier.
03:42If you see anyone walking through Keeneland with a pair of fancy shoes on, it will not
03:46be me or Bill.
03:47That's for sure.
03:48Yeah.
03:49Yes.
03:50As long as you don't think 1999 Walmart specials are fancy shoes.
03:55And it won't be Lucy either, right?
03:57He's back.
03:58Bye, Lucy.
03:59The TD and Ryder's Room and the Weekend Preview is brought to you by Three Chimneys.
04:04Shark Azteca got his third stakes winner over the weekend with Alma Rose, who won the White
04:10Clay Creek stakes for owner breeder Gelfenstein Farm.
04:14We're looking forward to watching another member, another two actually, of Sharp Azteca's
04:18first crop, Tyler's Tribe and Sharp Aztec, who are both being pointed now for the Breeders'
04:25Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint in two and a half weeks at Keeneland.
04:29We'll be right back for part two of the Weekend Preview after this message from Three Chimneys.
04:34Here comes Taba.
04:36Taba in the center of the track with good looking stride.
04:39Squares off with Cyberknife.
04:40Cyberknife takes the lead.
04:42Taba going with him.
04:43These two in a thriller.
04:44Cyberknife just in front.
04:46And Cyberknife has won the TBG.com Haskell over Taba.
04:51Jack Christopher finished third.
04:53The running time, 1 minute 46.24 seconds.
04:58Come, dream with us at Three Chimneys.
05:03Well, Randy, last week we gave Ed DeRosa's line for the Breeders' Cup Classic, and he
05:08had Flightline as an obvious favorite in there.
05:10Zoe, before we get Randy's take on what the morning line will be on the Classic, you were
05:14there at Santa Anita on Saturday.
05:16I've heard nothing, but what else would you expect?
05:19Glowing reports on Flightline's workout.
05:21What did you see?
05:22Well, if you didn't see it, you can watch it again on xbtv.com.
05:26I'm just throwing in these shameless plugs all the way through here.
05:29But again, you didn't see a lot, to be perfectly honest.
05:32And John Sadler simply said that next week he's liable to go at 7.45 because it's getting
05:37darker here in the mornings.
05:39If you watch the work, you're basically just going to see some lights.
05:42It looked a little bit lighter in person, and he did it very easily.
05:46One labor, I bought him once more.
05:49Officially, I think he went in 1, 11, and 4, and out in 25 and change.
05:54So a very good work, time-wise.
05:57This is his penultimate work.
05:59So actually, no, he's got two more works to go.
06:02He'll have one more, probably 7.45 on Saturday, and then one at Keeneland, which will basically
06:07just be a once-around, gallop-around feel of the racetrack.
06:10He looked super.
06:11I mean, I went back to the barn and saw him.
06:14It's so funny.
06:15His groom, Rene, holds him out there, literally at the end of the shank.
06:18Now, if I was John, I might be a bit worried that the world's best horse is 12 feet away
06:24from his hot walker there, but he'll just stand there and watch horses go by or watch
06:29birds flying through the sky.
06:31He's just a cool dude to be around and just a really cool horse.
06:35Now, Randy, you made him 3 to 5 in your line.
06:38I was trying to find if there was any betting started on the Breeders' Cup Classic.
06:41Betfair has opened up an antipost wager.
06:45Very little money in the pool so far, but they have them at 7 to 10 trading right now
06:52at $0.70 on the dollar.
06:53So I see you made him a flight line at 3 to 5, and that looks like – you know what?
06:58I'm thinking that's the right line, but at the end of the day, we might be saying that
07:02was a bargain.
07:03Yeah.
07:04I'll take that one.
07:05No.
07:06I mean, 3 to 5, I think, is pretty legitimate in my opinion.
07:10I think that's what Idarosa had him as well, if I'm not mistaken.
07:12Given the competition that he's facing, right?
07:14I mean, he's got some pretty good horses he's lined up against.
07:17You know, of course, those horses haven't done anything like he did in the Pacific Classic,
07:21but there's nothing wrong with Epicenter or Teva or Life is Good.
07:24Those are pretty solid horses.
07:26If you believe that, of course, parimutuals, as you all know, if you believe that flight
07:31line is going to go off at a shorter price than 3 to 5, say 1 to 2 or 2 to 5, then you
07:36can take those other horses and raise them a tick.
07:40But if for some reason you don't like flight line or you want to bet against flight line,
07:45you have no shortage of options and you'll definitely get a decent price.
07:49Now, obviously, the Classic is going to dominate the conversation as it is today and is going
07:53to be throughout the weeks leading up to the Breeders' Cup.
07:56But I got to tell you guys, the Breeders' Cup Distaff is a terrific, terrific race in
08:01there.
08:02Randy, what did you make?
08:03Who did you make the morning line favorite in the Distaff and why?
08:06It was tough, Bill.
08:08Between Nest and Malifat, I'm pretty confident, obviously, that the favorite, the betting
08:12favorite, is going to be one of those two Todd Pletcher-trained superstar females.
08:18It's just tough to figure out exactly which one is going to take the most money.
08:22I mean, Malifat was narrowly beaten in the Breeders' Cup Distaff last year, and she's
08:26hitting on all cylinders right now after that win in the spinster and then before that in
08:30the personal ensign.
08:31And Nest is just dominating every field that she runs against in the three-year-old Philly
08:36division.
08:37I'll buy it against lesser competition than Malifat has been facing.
08:41In the end, I made Nest 2-1 and Malifat 5-2.
08:46But again, in the Distaff, you talked about how good the field is.
08:50Search Results was just beaten a half length by Malifat in the personal ensign after having
08:55a clear lead in mid-stretch.
08:57And they were the same price in the personal ensign.
09:00They were both at 3-1.
09:03So you know Search Results is going to get played.
09:06Clairie Eyre was the favorite over Malifat the last time they ran against each other.
09:11She laid an egg last time out, but with a potential excuse in the starting gate before
09:16the race.
09:17And there's nothing wrong with society.
09:18You're going to get 5-1 or 6-1 on society, who, if you look at the past performances
09:23of this race, is probably going to be cruising along on an uncontested early lead.
09:29Nest has very little early speed.
09:31Malifat has even less than that.
09:33You don't think Search Results is probably going to want – they probably don't want
09:36to go out head and head with society.
09:38So society is probably going to control the pace.
09:40And given the way she ran her last two starts, that makes her very dangerous.
09:44What a race from top to bottom, the Distaff, Zoe.
09:48I love society.
09:49And I think you've hit the nail right on the head.
09:51She is absolutely going to be cruising.
09:53She's Gunrunner, right?
09:55Yes.
09:56She's Gunrunner?
09:57Yes.
09:58Yes.
09:59Another Gunrunner.
10:00I like her.
10:01I honestly think not enough has been made of Claire Eyre bashing her head in the gate,
10:06as she did last time out.
10:09And I think anytime you hit your head that hard, I just toss out the race completely.
10:15So I think we're going to see a much better version of Claire Eyre.
10:18And don't forget, she's already beaten Malifat.
10:21So if you're just tossing her out on that one race last time, I'll take all the money
10:27I can on Claire Eyre.
10:29Zoe, I'm with you.
10:30She's the forgotten horse in this for the very reasons that you said.
10:34I mean, people are talking about Malifat perhaps being the favorite.
10:37Randy, I think you're right.
10:38I think Ness will be the favorite.
10:39But Claire Eyre at 9-2 in your line, that's the bargain to me.
10:42That's the value.
10:43Because she beat Malifat on the square twice this year before she had that incident
10:50that happened.
10:51It obviously cost her a personal ensign.
10:52Steve Asmussen is a trainer.
10:54You know he's going to have her ready.
10:55I think she's very, very dangerous in there.
10:57And she came back to Zoe's point about hitting her head in the gate.
11:00She came back with a tongue that was cut and bleeding.
11:03Right.
11:04You'd have to think.
11:06I mean, I'm not much for excuses, for trainer excuses.
11:08You know, horses bite their tongues or things like that.
11:11You know, and they typically run their race anyway.
11:13But you'd have to think that given the fact that she ran so far below the form
11:19that she had been running, combined with what happened to her in the gate,
11:24you'd have to think that that's a legitimate excuse.
11:26Now, I said I made it 2-1 and 5-2.
11:28I think it was 2-1 for Ness, 3-1 for Malifat.
11:32But it's going to be close one way or the other.
11:35I mean, hindsight is 20-20.
11:37Ideally, she probably should have been backed out of the gate and taken a look at.
11:41But hindsight is 20-20, and she ran the race.
11:44And that was not the clairvoyant at any point in the race.
11:48I mean, not one point in the race was that for Philly that we've seen before.
11:52So to me, I'd just draw a line through it.
11:56♪
