00:00So I gotta be honest with you Cowboys Nation. I believe the Rico Doudle situation is completely
00:06unacceptable and it tells us a lot about the Cowboys draft plan.
00:13Hey what's up everyone it's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas on the road. We're
00:18talking free agency today though and we're talking one of the biggest decisions the Cowboys have made
00:24in the first week of the new league year and that is not paying Rico Doudle instead signing
00:31running back Javante Williams to a one-year deal. Now when the news broke about Javante Williams
00:37specifically I thought well they did the Cowboys thing right they chose finances over football
00:44because Javante Williams was going to sign for a cheaper deal all that's what we all thought
00:50right three million dollars with incentives to bring that up to 3.5 million okay the Cowboys
00:56did what they always do and they chose the cheaper option. And then the Rico Doudle news broke that
01:03he was going to sign with the Carolina Panthers and this is where the unacceptable bit comes into
01:08play Rico Doudle was reported to sign a one-year deal for 6.25 million dollars with the Panthers
01:15and it kind of adds up right what we were talking about he got more money than Javante but did he
01:21really it turns out Rico's base money is under what Javante Williams signed for in other words
01:28Javante Williams signed for three million dollars base and Rico got 2.75 million the rest of his
01:35deal with the Panthers are incentives and that is just wild to think about the Cowboys are paying
01:42more base money for a running back that has failed to reach four yards per carry over the last
01:48couple of seasons which coincides with the fact that he tore three ligaments in his second year
01:54in the NFL and since then has not been the same while the Panthers are paying less money to a guy
02:00that ended up with a top 15 success rate when running the football that re-sparked the Cowboys
02:07run game at the end of the 2024 season and just immediately became a three down back as soon as
02:14the Cowboys gave him a chance to prove himself now I'm not saying that Rico Doudle is the perfect
02:20running back or someone you want to pay elite money for I am saying the Cowboys are paying
02:25more base money to Javante Williams than Rico and he is so much better and I wonder how this came
02:32about did the Cowboys were they just in a hurry to pay someone less money or did they really think
02:38Rico Doudle was going to get more and then at the end of the day no one wanted him in the market
02:44what exactly went on for the Cowboys to pay more money to a worse player and yes it's true Rico
02:51has the incentives to double his money right but I kind of hate the fact that the Cowboys do not
02:56think the way that the Panthers are thinking in this transaction who cares if Rico makes three
03:02million dollars more as long as he's hitting his incentives that means he's playing good football
03:07that means he's working out for you now we do gotta wait until we learn more about these incentives
03:13that are in place because for those of you who don't know those can count against the cap basically
03:19how it works is they split incentives into two categories ones which are likely to be earned
03:25versus others that are not likely to be earned and what those two terms mean basically is did
03:30this player achieve these last season and if so then they are likely to be earned whereas if he
03:36did not make those last season then they're not likely to be earned the ones that are likely to
03:41be earned count against the cap the ones that are not don't count and then if he does hit them the
03:46next year the cap is adjusted for it but anyways now the Cowboys have Javante Williams are paying
03:51him more base money than the Panthers are Rico Doudle and Javante is simply not a guy you want
03:56to start which makes me think come April the Cowboys are going to be targeting a running back
04:01in the first couple of rounds it might be Ashton Jinty in the first round but hey they were mugged
04:08Ontario Hampton at 12th overall after the NFL scouting combine which is interesting to say the
04:13list or it might be a day two guy we'll see but for now the Cowboys need a running back and it
04:19kind of sucks that they paid more money to a player that wishes he was Rico Doudle right now
