00:00So, the NFL world is starting to wonder if Micah Parsons is a problem for the Dallas
00:05Cowboys and it's time we talk about it.
00:11Hey what's up everyone, it's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas.
00:14I am on the road but we're still talking Cowboys and we're talking Micah Parsons, who has become
00:20a controversial character in the world of the Cowboys during this offseason specifically
00:25because he is due for a huge contract extension.
00:28I'm talking highest paid non quarterback in the NFL.
00:32That is likely going to be the end result when it is all said and done.
00:35I know he's talked about taking less money from the Cowboys but that seemed to be hand
00:40in hand with an aggressive free agency, which we have not seen at all from the Cowboys.
00:45So you can forget about Micah Parsons not getting the bag, he's absolutely going to
00:50get it and it's not going to look very team friendly by the time it's all over.
00:54So expect that to be a long process of negotiations.
00:59Within that process, we're going to have conversations about who Micah Parsons is as a leader and
01:05we're already having those talks, especially after Calvin Watkins from the Dallas Morning
01:10News put out an article posing that question, is Micah Parsons a problem?
01:15Now for those of you who missed the article, Calvin Watkins basically touched on several
01:21key points like his podcasting, his activity on social media and his attendance or non
01:27attendance to voluntary oxygen workouts in the past, specifically in 2024.
01:34We're going to talk about all of those in this video, but very quickly, let's start
01:38with the podcasting because that seems to be the biggest sticking point here because
01:42Watkins makes the argument that this has been an issue with Cowboys players.
01:48Why?
01:49Because back in 2024, Malik Hooker talked about it in a podcast after the Cowboys lost
01:54to the Green Bay Packers in the wildcard round.
01:57And basically you remember how that went, Malik Hooker mentioned it in a podcast and
02:01he kind of questioned what were Micah's priorities if he was podcasting every week, but the run
02:07defense sucked and he said something along the lines of maybe he shouldn't be podcasting
02:11that much.
02:12And even more recently, Demarcus Lawrence said on Twitter that maybe if Micah Parsons
02:16didn't spend that much time tweeting and more time winning, maybe he would have stayed in
02:20Dallas.
02:21So Calvin Watkins makes the argument, if these players are saying it, maybe it's because
02:26it's an issue.
02:27But I'm going to be honest with you.
02:28I cannot help but think about all the other players that are hosting podcasts in season
02:34that are not named Micah Parsons and that don't get as much criticism for it.
02:39Think about the Kelseys.
02:40They had this amazing Super Bowl run with the New Heights show ongoing and no one said
02:45a word.
02:46Now you might say, well, that's because the Chiefs and the Eagles were winning.
02:50So if performance is the issue, why are we not talking about Micah Parsons still being
02:55one of the top pass rushers in the entire NFL while hosting his podcast?
03:01After all, Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce did not get to those Super Bowls by themselves.
03:06So if we're not criticizing them or we didn't criticize them because of the on-field performance,
03:13then that should apply to Micah as well.
03:15No one can tell me that the podcast that Parsons hosts is being an issue for him because he's
03:21out there being one of the best defenders in the NFL on a weekly basis.
03:24Additionally, sure, maybe Hooker had an issue with it.
03:28Maybe the Marcus Lawrence had an issue with it, but Trevon Vicks has been on that podcast.
03:33CeeDee Lamb has been on that podcast.
03:35If it truly was a locker room issue, would that be the case?
03:39I really don't see this being a problem.
03:41And remember, Micah hosts his podcast on Tuesdays when players are not doing anything else.
03:46So this and playing video games wouldn't be any different other than, well, people tune
03:51in and they're going to talk about the show, but Micah is just making smart business there.
03:56Social media habits, in my opinion, falls in the same category more or less.
04:00Ideally, you would want Micah Parsons to stay out of trouble and stop putting people on
04:04blast because he has done that in the past.
04:06But I really think it gets overblown and I don't see it as an issue at all either.
04:10The biggest sticking point for me is the voluntary workout off-season attendance.
04:15You remember Mike McCarthy was kind of upset about it in 2024 when he pointed out that
04:20pretty much everyone was there except for Micah Parsons.
04:24Micah ended up joining the team later on.
04:26And I get it.
04:26Ideally, you want a leader like Parsons to be there and spend time with new teammates
04:32and rookies and all of that.
04:34And I think that is something that I personally would like to see fixed.
04:38Now, it is voluntary, so it's not like Micah is keeping training camp or anything like that.
04:43He said that if contract negotiations with the Cowboys this year drew out into training camp,
04:48he would not miss.
04:50He would not hold out.
04:51He would not miss any practices.
04:53That is noteworthy.
04:54And if that ends up happening, then no one can say anything about Micah's attendance
04:58or non-attendance to practice.
05:00But that's one of those things that I cannot help but think, well, you want Micah there?
05:05Why didn't you extend him last year?
05:07Why are you not proactive with these long-term deals?
05:09We want the Cowboys players to be there every single time and not miss any practices and
05:14be there for the team.
05:16How about we start doing right for the players as well from the front office perspective,
05:20right?
05:21Look at all the 2021 first-round picks that have already gotten their deals.
05:25Pretty much if you were a good player in that draft, you've gotten your long-term extension.
05:29Not Micah.
05:302022 NFL draft players are already getting their deals reworked.
05:34But Tyler Smith, he knows he is not a candidate for that this offseason because the focus
05:38is going to be on Micah.
05:40So sure, we can get, you know, we can nitpick around whether or not Micah is attending to
05:45voluntary workouts, but do you want him there?
05:48How about you take care of his deal and you make that part of the under-the-table demands?
05:54At the end of the day, Micah Parsons is one of the best defenders in the entire NFL.
05:57And I'm going to be honest with you.
05:59I think the only NFL franchise that would overthink Micah Parsons is the Dallas Cowboys
06:04and everyone around it, content creators, fans, media members.
06:08The dude is good.
06:09The dude is great.
06:10Just let's just sign him and let him do his podcast.
