Mauricio Rodriguez discusses which players benefited the most from Dallas Cowboys free agency!
Transcript
00:00So NFL free agency is all but over for the Dallas Cowboys and today we're getting into
00:05seven players that have benefited directly from their decisions so far.
00:13Hey what's up everyone it's Mauricio Rodriguez here at ADZ Sports Dallas.
00:16I am on the road but that won't stop us from talking some Cowboys free agency today.
00:21Specifically we're getting into some winners from every decision the Cowboys have made
00:26so far. Earlier in the week I did a video on three potential losers and players whose path
00:32to the roster has gotten a little bit more complicated. Today we're doing the opposite.
00:36We're doing the positive side of things but since we're getting into seven players we'll
00:40keep things brief so let's dive in. First up on the list is none other than quarterback Will Greer.
00:47The reason why he's on the list is very simple. Cooper Rush is gone to the Baltimore Ravens.
00:52Trey Lance is very unlikely to come back so the Cowboys are likely going to pick somebody
00:57in the NFL draft. The thing is they have to do it before Will Greer is demoted. In other words
01:03Greer is Dak Prescott's backup until proven otherwise. Number two on the list give me
01:09Kaitlin Carson. Second year rookie cornerback that started in week one as De'Aaron Bland's
01:14replacement and he might start again next year. The reason why is simple. Trevon Dix is hurt and
01:21the Cowboys lost Jordan Lewis in free agency. In other words there is one more spot that's wide
01:26open for players like Carson to take over and I think Carson is going to be a favorite just because
01:32he did decent as a rookie and was always looked at as a developmental player. The thing about
01:38Carson is he can play inside and outside and it just feels like there's going to be a spot for
01:42the taking for him. Seatbelt is the nickname for Kaitlin and it's time for him to buckle up. Number
01:47three and four on the list these go hand in hand. I'm taking offensive tackles Tyler Guyton and
01:53Terrence Steele. It didn't really seem like the Cowboys were in the market to upgrade at offensive
01:58tackle but there were some solid options in the market if they really wanted to be aggressive.
02:04Spearheaded by Ronnie Stanley you also had Dan Moore and other players that could have been
02:09looked at as improvements from what the Cowboys have but the Cowboys passed on all of them. They
02:14did sign offensive line but that was Rob Jones. He's likely going to be a backed up on the inside
02:20so Tyler Guyton and Terrence Steele not threatened so far by the Cowboys decisions. Next up on the
02:26list is Jalen Tolbert. Jalen hasn't really been the fan's favorite so far and there are legit
02:33question marks to whether or not he is deserving of being a number three wide receiver in the league
02:39and being completely honest with you it feels like wide receiver two is completely out of the
02:44question for him. Now for that to happen though the Cowboys need somebody because the Cowboys don't
02:50have a starter in their lineup beyond CeeDee Lamb just yet at least not a clear-cut one. So if the
02:57Cowboys had to play a game today Tolbert would likely be at least number three in that lineup
03:03if not number two. So since the Cowboys did not sign a starting caliber wide receiver or haven't
03:09done so yet at least Amari Cooper is still out there. Stephon Diggs is still out there then Jalen
03:15Tolbert is on the winner's list because it feels like there is a spot waiting for him but this
03:20might be just temporary because I still believe the Cowboys got to upgrade at a wide receiver and as
03:25an additional note the Cowboys did sign veteran Paris Campbell but he might be closer to being a
03:32roster bubble guy than he is someone with a legit crack at a starting lineup spot. Next up on the
03:38list is none other than Oza Odigisua. Now keep in mind he's not on the list because of his 80
03:44million dollar deal this video is about players benefiting from other decisions across the roster
03:50but they got him a backup a legitimate backup in Solomon Thomas a three technique that was once
03:56the number three overall pick in the NFL. Listen Solomon Thomas is not going to be a game changer
04:01for the Cowboys defense but he will allow Oza's legs to stay fresh that's been an issue for
04:07Odigisua over the last few years and it's mostly been a roster issue for the Cowboys. Oza is not
04:12particularly the biggest defensive tackle in the league so if he can stay fresh he's only going to
04:18be more dangerous for the Cowboys. I think he's a big winner after the Cowboys brought in Solomon
04:24Thomas and finally linebacker the Marvian Overshone. The reason why Overshone is on the list is it's
04:32true the Cowboys brought in some competition at linebacker in Jack Sanborn and then they also
04:37added Kenneth Murray via a trade but I ultimately see this as an opportunity for Overshone to take
04:44his time. We know he's fighting back from injury and honestly the Cowboys out of necessity might
04:50have been tempted to rush him back onto the field in September because they don't have or they didn't
04:56have enough linebacker depth but adding Sanborn and adding Murray and potentially another linebacker
05:02even if it's in day three of the NFL draft that will give Overshone some additional opportunity
05:08to come back take his time and come back when he really should instead of the Cowboys rushing him
05:14back onto the field. We saw the Cowboys try to do that with Bland last year did not work out for
05:19them he re-injured his foot hopefully none of that happens with Overshone and it feels to me that
05:25adding some depth at the position will only help his case. So those are seven winners from the
05:30Cowboys free agency so far let me know in the comments if you think I missed someone and I'll
05:35see you next time.
