  • last month
Former NFL GM and football media man Michael Lombardi joined Shan & RJ this morning to talk about the litany of contract situations the Cowboys are dealing with. He discusses why he thinks they'll all get done, why he doesn't think Dak will ever leave the Cowboys, and go through some other preseason thoughts.

00:00We're missing our best receiver.
00:17We got contract drama nonstop, and you had a recent article that was entitled, Will Jerry
00:24Jones go all in with these Dallas Cowboys?
00:26What do you make of all the contract drama?
00:29Well, I think this.
00:30I think, you know, when you go back and really watch that game against the Packers, and you
00:34own the team, and you see how disappointing the effort was, the fundamentals were, everything
00:40about that game was bad.
00:42I mean, look, Jerry's had a hard time getting to a Super Bowl, hasn't been to a conference
00:46championship game since 95.
00:49You know, here he has home field advantage, playing against a Packer team that was, you
00:53know, struggled to beat Carolina 33 to 30, lost to Tommy DeVito in the Meadowlands, you
00:58know.
00:59I mean, they were getting better, but let's not put them out to be the 85 Bears here now.
01:05So I think when you watch that game, and you see how poorly Dak played, you see how poorly
01:11all the players in the team played, the high pad level, nobody getting off blocks, Green
01:16Bay kind of doing what they wanted to do.
01:18I think you can't turn around and say, oh, I'm really happy, let me give everybody big
01:22checks.
01:23Yeah, I don't think you can do that.
01:24Well, Mike, well, you're telling me you still don't think the day after, a week after that
01:29you need to sign up CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons down the road?
01:34They're going to sign CeeDee Lamb, they're going to sign Parsons down the road, and I'm
01:37sure they're going to do something with Dak, but I don't think they have to run to the
01:40window to do it.
01:41Look, here's the thing you all miss on this Dak thing, right?
01:44Where's Dak going?
01:46Where's he going?
01:48Anywhere he wants.
01:50Anywhere he wants.
01:51You realize there's other quarterbacks somewhere?
01:54He's not taking somebody's job.
01:55You think he's going to go to Miami and take Tua's job?
01:58No.
01:59You think he's going to go to Jacksonville and take Lawrence's job?
02:01That's anywhere you want, right?
02:03You're telling me next offseason Dak Prescott won't be able to pick between three to five
02:08teams where he wants to go and get paid $60 million plus?
02:12I think he'll have every option if the Raiders lead a quarterback.
02:15I think he'll certainly have an option there.
02:17I think he'll have options at another team.
02:19But let me ask you this question.
02:21Why would he leave Dallas?
02:22Jerry would match the deal.
02:23Jerry's not afraid of free agency.
02:25What does Jerry care about?
02:27You're going to leave being the head of the Dallas- he's going to go to New Orleans next
02:30year.
02:31Oh, he's going to go to New Orleans next year.
02:33He'll go right there.
02:34They're 90 million over the cap already for next year.
02:36Okay?
02:37He ain't going to New Orleans.
02:39Not at 60 million a year.
02:41So you can forget about that.
02:43You know, he's not going to Atlanta.
02:45Maybe a Super Bowl winning GM, Terry Fontenot, will sign another quarterback, but he ain't
02:48going there.
02:49Where's he going to go?
02:50Okay.
02:51He's not going to Washington.
02:52You know, could he go to the New York Football Giants?
02:55Yeah.
02:56But the Giants have to pay a 12% increase just because of the state taxes in the garden
03:00state where I live.
03:02So like, stop.
03:03Stop.
03:04Where's he going?
03:05What about Tampa?
03:06Jerry's going to get-
03:07When's he going to go to Tampa?
03:09They just redid Mayfield's deal.
03:11They like Mayfield.
03:12Their defense is really good.
03:15You know, they're just coming out of Cap-El.
03:17Right?
03:18They're just coming out of Cap-El.
03:20Minnesota said, we've had enough of Cap-El.
03:22We're getting rid of Cousins.
03:24So like, where's Dak going?
03:28You really think Dak's going to just leave for an extra million dollars to go play in
03:32Tampa?
03:33I mean, come on.
03:34So for you, it's not Dak's talent level standing in the league.
03:37It's more options, and he's not going to go to a worse situation.
03:40You're a quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.
03:42You wear a star.
03:43You're America's team.
03:45You're going to leave that to go be a Buck?
03:46It's like leaving the Yankees to go to the Mets.
