00:00Uh, the Jimmy Butler thing just could not be going any better.
00:04I mean, every game that goes by, you still, I do at least, you still scratch your head
00:10a little bit.
00:11You're like, this is not supposed to be this easy, is it?
00:14This is really going to be this easy?
00:16And again, now some really fun teams and some good teams are going to come here on this
00:21homestand, but we were all talking about it before the show.
00:27And I bet that a lot of you warrior fans out there feel it as well.
00:30The experience of watching a game has completely changed.
00:35And I don't mean that just because they're winning.
00:37I think this is a good marker for all professional sports teams.
00:40We've done this with the giants the last handful of years, um, when they couldn't hit and,
00:45and that's, you know, somewhat often the last handful of years where they'd fall down three
00:50to nothing in the second inning.
00:52And you're like, well, that's the end of that game, right?
00:55I guess we'd go do something else with our night.
00:58And for a while, that was certainly the case with the warriors.
01:02If they went down by double digits and by 15 or certainly by 20, that last night they
01:07went down by 22.
01:09Here's Curry on why now suddenly they're more equipped to come from behind.
01:13There were like probably if I watch the film, there are probably like six possessions that
01:18maintained or capitalize off of momentum that allowed a comeback to happen where we either
01:24picked apart the defense, got an easy layup, or Jimmy got to the free the line, or we used
01:32my chaos off the ball to get a good look like those six possessions can dictate.
01:38They might not, nobody might talk about them, but we feel them where it's you either control
01:41momentum or you settle yourself down.
01:45We didn't have that early in the year.
01:47So we had some spirited efforts to get back, but you couldn't get over the hump or, you
01:51know, losing a lead down the stretch because we just didn't have that right chemistry.
01:56So it's a little different right now.
01:58We've been improving it.
01:59Yep.
02:00Yep.
02:01They definitely have.
02:02And so that that's what I'm getting at.
02:03I think the experience for us fans is completely different because I don't know where you were
02:08when they were down 27 to five.
02:10I'm not going to say that I like my feet were up and I shrugged it off.
02:13You're like, this is kind of annoying, but at no point did it cross my mind, oh God,
02:18they're going to lose tonight.
02:19Like that did not cross my mind.
02:20I didn't really have that thought either, but I was kind of patting myself on the back
02:25for my first half play with Brooklyn plus four and a half and the first half wager thinking
02:30that I thought the Warriors had come out sluggish, but not that sluggish.
02:34I didn't have them going down 27 to five and yesterday was a Bart day for me.
02:38So you try to follow it on your phone and you get in the Transbay tube and you get no
02:43reception and you get into Oakland, you get no reception.
02:46So I was a little hit and miss until I got in the car.
02:48And then I heard, you know, Kevin Dana right away, like, and, you know, Curry went through
02:53the three ball and that's their first bucket to cut at the 17 and we, what?
02:58And then he, you know, 22 to five and, or whatever the score was at that point.
03:01I was like, Oh my God, what?
03:04And then you listen on your drive from Bart back to the house and it's like, I don't even
03:08know if I should put this on, but I will because a month ago I wouldn't have a month ago.
03:13It's like, all right, they're going to lose by 50 and you know, it's going to be a lot
03:16of Kevin Knox and you know, going to be a lot of Guy Santos late in this one.
03:20But with this new warrior team, even though you're down 2022 it's like, okay, just now
03:26we're ready to dig out, start making plays.
03:28Let's go to John and Hayward.
03:30Hi John.
03:31Thanks for calling.
03:32Hey, uh, thanks for taking my call guys.
03:35So the word goat has a very detailed description behind it.
03:39There's levels and classes to this and within inside the levels, I mean, uh, like a, to
03:44be goat, you have to put butts in seats, check box.
03:48You have to lead the league in viewership via NBA league pass, cause that's how they
03:51control it.
03:53Check box and the MVP chance.
03:55The only other guy that was getting it in recent memory, it was Kobe.
03:58He owned all opposing arenas and Steph is feared, you know, coaches fear it, you know,
04:04players, LeBron and these guys, KD, they're great.
04:07Don't get me wrong, but they're just not, you know, feared as the same level as Curry.
04:12So he checked the box for all that, you know, I, that, that's the, you know, he definitely
04:16belongs in conversation.
04:18And as far as winning the fifth ring, it's a, I think he can win it, but I'm just not
04:22too sure because they're Achilles heel has always been turnovers, ill-advised shots.
04:29You know, if they can hone that down, it just drives me crazy when they did get a defensive
04:32rebound and they hand the ball off to, but he healed.
04:35He just doesn't know how to dribble at this.
04:37I hate Draymond when he passes him the ball, he's the main ball handler behind stuff and
04:42they can win it.
04:43They just got to limit the turnovers.
04:44They have a puncher's chance.
04:46It's like a bad poker player at the table.
04:48You know, they have a one out or they can knock out anybody, but they have to play their
04:52cards right.
04:53That's all.
04:54Thanks.
04:55Yeah.
04:56John, thank you.
04:57I mean, you must really love the arrival of Jimmy Butler because that's for me, the number
05:00one thing that he's changed.
05:02And I don't just mean turnovers and the way that he spits them out and hates them so much,
05:07but it's also just the style of play that leads to them.
05:11Like what the warriors in the Steph era have always needed.
05:15Because did you hear him even refer to what he does off the ball as chaos?
05:20My chaos off of the ball.
05:22Well, everything about Steph Curry is chaos.
05:25His shots can be chaotic.
05:27His passes can be chaotic.
05:29The way he runs around the court can be chaotic.
05:32And when Steph Curry has had success in this league, it's also because there is a teammate
05:37out there who is a calming force.
05:41Calm everything down.
05:42That's what Andre Iguodala would do.
05:44Yep.
05:45Kevin Durant.
05:46Calm it down.
05:47Kevin Durant.
05:48Calm it down.
05:49Here, Kevin, shoot that shot.
05:50Just here.
05:51Take the ball.
05:52Even Livingston, like throw it to him in the block, the low block with the mouse in the
05:54house and he's dribble, dribble, dribble, turn and shoot.
05:57That's controllable.
05:58Yeah.
05:59Totally.
06:00And that's what Jimmy Butler has done.
06:01He just like, and I think that that's what we're feeling when we watch it.
06:06I don't know about you.
06:07When Steph gets subbed out, I have not felt this way in years and certainly probably since
06:15Kevin Durant where when he gets subbed out, I am totally at ease with what the Warriors
06:22are about to do offensively on the very next possession because Jimmy Butler is there and
06:28they can put the ball in his hands and everything around him is just calm.
06:33He's like the eye of the storm, man.
06:35Yeah.
06:36And he'll get you to the foul line, which is a very calming thing in and of itself.
06:39And you know, the caller mentioned the turnovers and they're averaging 12.8 turnovers a game
06:44since Jimmy Butler has been here over the course of 12 games, which is more than two
06:48turnovers fewer.
06:50They're now no longer last in the league in free throw percentage.
06:54They're now fourth to last.
06:55So they're moving up.
06:56They're moving up the table because you get a guy in Jimmy Butler to the foul line who
07:01can shoot it.
07:02And Steph is 93 percent on the year.
07:04So you have better free throw shooters.
07:06You're getting to the line more.
07:08The game is more in control.
07:10You turn it over less and all those things.
07:12If you want to talk about coming back from a 22 point deficit, you need to not turn it
07:16over and you need to get some freebies with the foul line.
07:19And they did last night.
07:21Iron Eagles going to join us here in just about seven minutes.
07:25Voice of the Brooklyn Nets.
07:26So we'll get his reaction to what it was like inside that arena last night.
07:31Also big time NBA voice on TNT.
07:34Now to the point you were just making, Jimmy Butler, the effect that he has on everyone
07:38around him.
07:39Let's not leave that out of this conversation.
07:41We'll give Steph all the love in the world.
07:43But yes, Jimmy gets a lot of credit, even for what Steph is doing.
07:47Steph talked about that.
07:49Starts with being healthy, feeling like yourself.
07:52The work that you put in behind the scenes, preparing you to play and feeling good night
07:56in, night out.
07:57But Jimmy obviously helps.
07:59He helps a lot.
08:01And it's led to winning because we have a good balance and a good flow and his impact
08:05on the game is pretty obvious.
08:08So yeah, it all, it all goes together.
08:10That's how you win in this league.
08:11Like everybody has to do their part and the idea that we have a good understanding of
08:16how to win games with this specific team, it's been fun to play.
08:20Yeah, pretty exciting, man.
08:21And Draymond Green also said yesterday, by the way, oh yeah, there's actually plenty
08:28of improvement for us to still find.
08:31Like this should and could get way better than what we're seeing right now and probably
08:36needs to if they're going to do something in the playoffs, I'd say that.
08:41And it also, like, I don't know specifically what he's getting at, but it makes sense.
08:46I don't know how anything could be at its absolute best in this turnkey format that
08:53has been Jimmy Butler.
08:54Like it shouldn't be, and it couldn't be at its absolute zenith right away like this.
08:59That doesn't make any sense.
09:00How about starting games with a little bit more emphasis?
09:05That would help.
09:06Yeah.
09:07A little bit more of an effort and important.
09:10You fell down 35-15 after one and that's a full 12 minutes of Steph Curry.
09:15So you played Steph the full rack of minutes and you came out and Draymond was a minus
09:2020 and Steph was a minus 20.
09:23He was a minus 19 going 0-4 from the floor.
09:25So can you start better in games and when you play against these really good teams in
09:31the playoffs, Lakers, Denver, OKC, whoever it is, you're not going to be able to get
09:36away with that where you go down by 22 points after six minutes or so.
09:41That usually doesn't work against really good teams.
09:43No, but that is also, I mean, it's part of the bigger picture of the NBA flow.
09:50Sometimes it's kind of the way I feel it.
09:51Like you were on that last night that it would be a little bit of a sleepy first half.
09:55I don't think anybody thought it would be that pronounced.
09:57Yeah.
09:58But by the same toast.
09:59Well, but you're again, think of it, think of the situation.
10:02You're the last game of a five game trip.
10:04You've got an emotional night in New York winning an MSG and one of your, I know day
10:10days.
10:11I don't really think that, but I do.
10:13One of your starters leaves a minute into the game and then one of your bench players
10:18comes in who has the worst game in his career as a warrior.
10:24I mean, you can't score less than zero, right?
10:28So that was tied at least for the worst performance of Buddy Hills, warrior's career.
10:32And that's who subbed into the game right away.
10:35And he played very, very poorly.
10:38And so all of those things worked against the warriors while Brooklyn came out hitting
10:42shots.
10:43They came out hitting their shots.
10:45So that'll happen.
10:47I'm more judge it.
10:48And I remember saying this to you yesterday, the warriors, I did not like that 10 and a
10:53half point spread.
10:54I'm like, that's too big.
10:55This feels a little sleepy.
10:57I'm not going to judge this on any sort of a blowout.
11:00I'm going to judge this on professionalism and a victory.
11:04And to me that only grows when you come out, you face adversity, you fall down by 22 and
11:10then you still go get that win.
11:12You still end up up by 10 with a minute to go.
11:15That to me, that's professionalism in the NBA.
11:18Yeah.
11:19And that's one way to put it.
11:20And I'm just going to say this quickly and maybe I'll run it back later.
11:24But Steph Curry in the night, night, you need to put that away for a while.
11:28Why?
11:29Because you almost lost the game.
11:30Oh, they did.
11:31You hit him with the night, night.
11:32And that became a one point game.
11:34It's become cliche and trite.
11:36I think it was too.
11:37Save it for a big moment.
11:38Yeah.
11:39No, I put the night, night away.
11:42You're going to night, night on Brooklyn up nine and then all of a sudden, we got a two
11:45point ball game.
11:46Yeah.
11:47Two point ball game with him at the line and he was going to hit the two free throws.
11:51No big deal.
11:52Yeah.
11:53He keep doing the night, night until he's wrong.
11:55He's never been wrong.
11:56Yeah.
11:57Undefeated.
11:58It's become cliche and trite.
12:00You're no fun at all.
12:03You want opinion?
12:04That's my opinion.
12:05I want correct opinions.
12:06That one's incorrect.
12:07Oh, keep doing it, chef.
12:08You're the GOAT.
12:09Yes.
12:10Yes.
12:12Give me a break.
12:13Oh God.
12:14You're going to poo poo?
12:15There's the dismissal.
12:16Put the night, night away.
12:17There he is.
12:18There's the dismissal.
12:19Let's just keep.
12:20We're going to night, night Brooklyn.
12:21Oh my God.
12:22Up eight and now we're going to have to make free throws to hold on for dear life.
12:24Night, night.
12:25As much as possible.
12:26Do it every night.
