00:00As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu, today is Friday, the last program of the week.
00:16In today's program, we will talk about the unfortunate ministers who have been appointed
00:22to the ministry today.
00:24And there is a surprise element in it that a minister had some wishes but he did not get anything.
00:30And some have got a bigger ministry than the Khalifa of the time.
00:34Now what is the story behind this?
00:36We will ask Mr. Hassan Ayub, what happened?
00:39Some poor people, especially in the place where I live in Islamabad, we will talk about it in detail later in the program.
00:47Dr. Tariq Fazal Chowdhury, he was the Chief Whip in the Parliament.
00:51So he was made the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.
00:54I think he will do the same work as he did in the Parliament.
00:57So what is the reason for this?
00:59Along with this, viewers, the price of sugar has increased.
01:03It is the 14th week.
01:05The price has increased further today.
01:07What is the reason for this?
01:09Why is the government not able to control it?
01:11Now the ministries have also increased a lot.
01:13The cabinet has also expanded a lot.
01:15So I think it should be controlled now.
01:18Along with this, a very interesting incident took place yesterday.
01:21The new judges who have come to Islamabad High Court,
01:25their staff is taking money from them.
01:32Our representative, Hussain Chowdhury, is investigating this.
01:37He has a story, we will talk about it later.
01:39But today, the beginning of the program.
01:41Last night, because it was a day in America,
01:45a Washington-based senior expert in military and intelligence,
01:49Joe Tabet, we spoke to him.
01:54We spoke to him in the background of Sharifullah,
01:59who was arrested at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
02:03After that, he was handed over to America.
02:06And you know that a couple of days back,
02:10when President Trump broke this news in front of Congress,
02:15when he was being addressed there,
02:17the whole Congress stood up and applauded.
02:19If we can show it again, then that is also there.
02:22This was an intelligence-based operation.
02:25We were given a tip.
02:27And the Pakistan Law Enforcement Agencies and Intelligence Agencies
02:31did a very successful operation.
02:33What we talked to Joe Tabet,
02:35what he said in it,
02:38we will keep it in front of you and then talk about it in detail.
03:08So today we have Joe Tabet,
03:10Washington-based senior expert in military intelligence.
03:14Mr. Joe, I just want to know,
03:17what was the initial reaction of you when you heard this news,
03:21when President Trump broke this news to the Congress?
03:24First of all, I would like to thank you for having me.
03:29What I can say is,
03:31the big applause that we heard in the Congress
03:36when President Trump delivered his speech
03:39reflected really a good start of US-Pakistan relationship.
03:46President Trump was honest
03:49when he said that Pakistan helped us,
03:52helped the Americans to capture this Mr. Jafar,
03:59who is really based on the information
04:02that I collected from the intelligence community here in Washington
04:07and the State Department and the Department of Defense.
04:10Jafar was not a foot soldier,
04:13was not like a normal soldier.
04:15He was a high-ranking commander in the Islamic State, Khorasan province.
04:21He plotted, he planned, he masterminded deadliest attacks,
04:26not only against American interests,
04:29even he masterminded attacks against Pakistani interests
04:34and even against the Afghani people.
04:37What I can summarize is,
04:40this administration is looking in a positive way now
04:46towards working with Pakistan,
04:49working with Pakistan on multiple levels,
04:52especially counter-terrorism.
04:55There is now, we can say, a kind of trust
04:59between the Trump team and the leadership in Islamabad.
05:04This trust would definitely lead to many issues,
05:08mainly that President Trump wants to first,
05:13wants to take back the ammunitions
05:16and the American weapons that was left in Afghanistan
05:21after the withdrawal in 2021.
05:23And the Trump team believes that only Pakistan can help
05:28in letting the United States take back these weapons.
05:34Certainly when President Trump thanked the government of Pakistan,
05:38particularly like Prime Minister of Pakistan,
05:40and Prime Minister of Pakistan also in response thanked President Trump
05:44for acknowledging our efforts in this great arrest.
05:49But my question is, since this news was broke,
05:52be it Pete Hackseth, Secretary of Defense,
05:55be it Michael Watts, National Security Advisor,
05:58be it CIA Chief, everybody is talking about this arrest.
06:02I just want to know, being a Pakistani,
06:04is it really a big thing, big catch, big fish,
06:07like which being appreciated by the entire new US administration?
06:13No, I would say it is a big fish.
06:16It is a big achievement,
06:19not only to the United States, to the US intelligence.
06:24It is an achievement to Pakistan,
06:27because without Pakistan, the United States
06:30wouldn't have been able to capture Jafar.
06:34Based on the information that I had,
06:36Jafar was, his capture was the fruit,
06:41the results of a trustful and serious cooperation
06:45between the US intelligence and the Pakistani intelligence.
06:49My information says that he was captured in mid-February,
06:55at certain point on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border,
07:00and all the information, all the news that said
07:04that Pakistan had Jafar for a long time,
07:08this is totally false, not true.
07:11It was a big fish, it was a big fish,
07:13because Jafar is responsible of killing 13 members
07:19of the United States Marine Corps at the Abbey Gate
07:23in August 2021 at the Kabul airport.
07:27So, I believe, based on my contact,
07:30my sources within the intelligence community,
07:34that during the course of the trial
07:37that began yesterday in Washington,
07:41we are going to see more layers of cooperation
07:46from Pakistan that led to the capture of Jafar.
07:51Certainly, now the question arises,
07:53after this successful operation,
07:56there are like, certainly, comments we are hearing
08:00that this counter-terrorism cooperation
08:02between US and government of Pakistan in future
08:05is going to further strengthen.
08:07What do you say?
08:10I agree with that, because the cooperation
08:14will not be cornered only with some security operations
08:20or CT cooperations.
08:23I would say there are many levels of interest
08:28for President Trump in Pakistan.
08:31I want to mention one thing that over the last few weeks
08:35we have seen many American delegation,
08:38high delegations, in business, in trade,
08:41going to Pakistan.
08:43I mentioned Gentry Beach,
08:45who is a very close friend to President Trump.
08:49He went to Pakistan, he met a lot of people,
08:52a lot of businessmen, and he finally signed an agreement,
08:56a multi-billion dollar agreement in real estate in Pakistan.
09:01This is a symbol that the Trump administration
09:06is looking, allow me to say,
09:08is looking to do business with Islamabad,
09:11is looking to work with Islamabad,
09:17to resolve many issues in the region.
09:20Joe, the next question which comes to my mind
09:22is that Pakistan, over the decades,
09:24had been a security partner with the US
09:27as a frontline state,
09:29but after that catastrophic withdrawal
09:32of US forces from Afghanistan,
09:34there was a lull, if I may say,
09:37as long as the counterterrorism cooperation
09:40and security-wise cooperation were concerned.
09:43So, with this successful operation,
09:46we see, you can say,
09:50a major development between the security,
09:53an establishment between the two countries
09:55in terms of cooperation, counterterrorism cooperation.
09:58We've always had good relations,
10:02good military relations with Pakistan.
10:07This goes well decades ago,
10:11and definitely this operation would add a new layer
10:16to strengthen this relationship.
10:20Many believe that there are a lot of things,
10:23a lot of security things to be resolved.
10:27First of all, the Trump team relies on Pakistan
10:32to secure, to stabilize Afghanistan.
10:35This is something that really is always bothering
10:40the Trump administration.
10:42Sometimes we hear some calls that
10:45Washington is not that happy by seeing Taliban in Kabul.
10:50So, there are a lot of demands from the Trump side.
10:55Based on what we have seen over the last few days,
10:59I could say that we will see, we will notice,
11:03and we will witness a lot of work
11:06between the Trump administration and Islamabad.
11:09And I don't rule out, as an expert,
11:12I don't rule out a visit from senior American officials
11:18to Pakistan in a very short period.
11:23So, can we say there is a major shift in the narrative,
11:27you know, when we talk about this,
11:30the Pakistan's proactive approach
11:33in terms of this counterterrorism operation and all that?
11:36So, in future, a shift as far as this cooperation is concerned?
11:43I would say the United States is already seeing
11:47a major shift from Pakistan.
11:49Let me point to the Chief of Staff of the Army,
11:54General Asim Munir, who visited the UK.
11:58His visit was really a point of interest
12:02for many U.S. government agencies.
12:06And there is a sense here in Washington
12:10that Pakistan's approach towards not the UK,
12:16but towards the West, towards the United States, is changing.
12:20It's changing towards more cooperation, more collaboration.
12:25So, definitely, the narrative has changed.
12:29And as I told you, Trump is a businessman.
12:33If he can fulfill his targets with Pakistan,
12:38we will see a lot of business.
12:40When I say business, I would say a lot of cooperation
12:43between the White House and Islamabad.
12:46There are still many who view this arrest as just another arrest.
12:51And they have the view that with the passage of time,
12:53you know, things will move on.
12:55And maybe, again, the relationship between U.S. and Pakistan
12:59would be, you know, put on the back burner.
13:03So, do you see this thing happening?
13:06Or you see Pakistan emerging as a major regional security stabilizer
13:13in coming months and years?
13:16I would say, I would definitely say that this is not something
13:21that is going to disappear in a few days.
13:25The question, why?
13:26Because the intelligence community here in the United States
13:30and the Trump team believe that Jafar was not a normal,
13:36or a regular soldier in the ISKP.
13:41He was a high-ranking commander.
13:44And he was a mastermind of many attacks.
13:48So the United States will be dealing with him on the long term.
13:54The United States will definitely dig in to see,
13:59to get more information.
14:01And as of now, ISKP is one of the biggest threat
14:07to the United States' interest in the region.
14:10So, if I have understood you correctly, Mr. Joe,
14:14you are saying this operation, this arrest of Sharifullah Jafar,
14:19and now definitely he is being tried, he will be tried inside the U.S.
14:24So, taking from here, this arrest, and, you know,
14:29considering whatever is happening in Afghanistan,
14:32and certainly you see Pakistan's role, you know,
14:37being strengthened when it comes to the,
14:41whatever is U.S. going to decide about the Middle East and about Afghanistan?
14:46Absolutely. Absolutely. Especially with the whole East Asia.
14:53And also, let's mention India.
14:56So that's why Washington is open for cooperation with Islamabad.
15:05Thank you very much, Mr. Joe Tabet,
15:08for sharing your thoughts on this, I must say, historical achievement,
15:13in which Pakistani law enforcement agencies, you know,
15:17after having the step from the U.S. intelligence sources,
15:22successfully captured Mr. Sharifullah and handed over him to U.S. authorities.
15:27And coming weeks, we'll be again talking to you on this very issue.
15:32Thank you very much, Mr. Joe, for spending time with us.
15:34You're welcome. Thank you for having me.
15:36Thank you very much.
16:04Thank you very much.
