00:00Two Salop stalwarts here at Edgley Park to review Shrewsbury Town against Stockport.
00:07Obviously there were some pretty sad scenes weren't there at the end, well not at the
00:10end, it was about an hour in when defender Morgan Feeney went down, there was a collision
00:14in the box, we didn't really get a great view of what exactly it was that happened.
00:19But either way he was down, he didn't really move did he for an awful long time.
00:23There were medical teams on the pitch, Gareth Ainsworth was on the pitch, obviously some
00:27of the Shrewsbury players looked in quite a lot of distress too.
00:30So it was a difficult I suppose ending to the game for Shrewsbury's players, obviously
00:34knowing that one of their players has gone off to hospital.
00:37Positive news that we've had from Gareth Ainsworth though is that he is responsive,
00:40but it was a pretty difficult second half really after that incident happened.
00:44Yeah I thought, to be honest Oli, credit to the Town players actually for recovering and
00:49responding to it and going for the final 20 minutes and actually they had a bit of a go
00:53didn't they?
00:56I think Marcus' chance had come before that incident hadn't it from memory or was it just
00:59after?
01:00I think it was just after towards the end, seven minutes to go.
01:03Which shows they kept going, obviously it was a tough watch that incident wasn't it?
01:09We could see immediately and so I said to you from our view he was prone on his back
01:14and not really moving and it was a good 10-12 minutes wasn't it?
01:18So yeah it was really concerning, kind of good news and relieved really to hear that
01:22he sounds okay and it's a positive update and that it was just a little bit precautionary
01:27maybe but obviously we pass him all and his family all of our best wishes because not
01:32nice to witness and it looked like it hit some of his teammates hard, as it would.
01:37But credit for the way they kind of went at Stockport for the last 15-20 and 10 minutes
01:42of stoppages as well because they probably had their best period of the game after that
01:45didn't they and at least had a bit of a go at the end and looked like they might find
01:52an equaliser but look I mean it's not really for me to say but it probably looked like
01:58a side that it is in terms of just lacking in that final moment, that cutting edge to
02:05get a point or get three points obviously it fell to the striker didn't it in Marquess
02:09that one main chance and I don't know did he do much wrong with that sort of diving
02:14header?
02:15It was a good save.
02:16It was a good save wasn't it?
02:17I mean it's been a bit of a story of Shrewsbury's recent kind of games, I mean I think that's
02:20their third 1-0 defeat on the road and I think it's in succession late in Orient Chalton
02:25and now tonight so obviously Town have had a particular difficult run on the road.
02:30Gareth Hainsworth has admitted himself in his post-match that they have become a lot
02:35more solid now and they look it don't they, I mean there was a few set pieces but and
02:38Stockport were the better team and they were deserved the win but I suppose from a Shrewsbury
02:44perspective there's probably not quite enough threat as they're going forward.
02:48They did, I suppose ultimately though, I can remember as I mentioned it to somebody
02:51in the press box as the game went on that ultimately if you stay in the game long enough
02:54then you can have that onslaught can't you at the end where you try and get something
02:57from the fixture.
02:58Which nearly turned out tonight.
02:59Which nearly turned out to Shrewsbury getting a point but you know it's been a difficult
03:04few days hasn't it, you know the late heartbreak at Chalton when it looked like Shrewsbury
03:07were going to continue the good run and then obviously another defeat today.
03:10I mean the goal that Stockport scored was an absolutely extraordinary free kick, it
03:14was very disappointing the way that Shrewsbury conceded it but it really was a moment of
03:17real class.
03:18Yeah, I know you tweeted it Premier League class really from a player playing Premier
03:23League not too long ago and maybe that's what you get.
03:26We were having a bit of a debate when we were watching the replay weren't we about was Jamal
03:30Blackman, any portion of blame on him, I don't really think so, however it was his side,
03:38the wall's the other side so he should really technically have that side covered.
03:43It was right into the top corner pretty much but it was just that technique of the whiff
03:48wasn't it?
03:49Yeah, yeah.
03:50I mean as somebody who wants Shrewsbury to do well it was immensely satisfying watching
03:52that ball go right into the top corner wasn't it, I said it at the time it was like it went
03:57absolutely right into the top corner, it really was.
03:59A goal really to win any game at any level and you mentioned Chalton on the weekend obviously
04:06and tonight it's a bit of what might have been isn't it, the dying stages there and
04:11then one moment of real quality tonight as Undone Town and cost them a lot of points
04:16really and there's still a lot of games left but we're getting towards the business end
04:21aren't we?
04:22He's in the maths in his post-match, there's 57 points to play for, they get them all they'll
04:25get in the play-offs he said in his post-match, he's very optimistic.
04:28People don't need to watch us because if they want their upbeat Town coverage just watch
04:32the head coach.
04:33Yeah, yeah of course.
04:34I mean what do you, looking at it now, I think I was just having a look, is the gap seven
04:40points now I think to fifth bottom maybe with a game in hand so it's difficult to ask
04:48kind of maybe how you see the chances of getting out of it because I suppose a lot, I think
04:52a lot hangs on what business will they maybe do over the next however long the window's
04:56open for.
04:58I mean you know far more than me and will have written about it as well but what are
05:04they trying and hoping to do, what do they need most?
05:06Yeah I think there'll be a couple and I think it's a bit of a case of trying to bring some
05:10quality back.
05:11I mean one thing that they did have is they had Tom Bloxham playing up front or playing
05:14on the right wing and him offering some threat, he now offers that threat at Blackpool so
05:17obviously I think that'll be an area of the pitch they're going to have to try and strengthen
05:22going forward.
05:23You know they have become so much harder to beat, they gave Stockport a really difficult
05:28evening here tonight but if they want to stay up they've got to score goals haven't they
05:32and that's kind of, you know, they've looked a little bit toothless haven't they in recent
05:38weeks and I think that is the plan for Shrewsbury now going forward to try and see if they can
05:43add some firepower you know and they need to try and stay in touch and distance because
05:47they have got a kind of running you know, they've got some really horrible fixtures
05:50at the moment.
05:51They're playing teams in the top half and this always looked like it was going to be
05:54a daunting proposition but as I say it's getting, you know, increasingly more difficult by the
05:59game.
06:00Do you know I was on player ratings duty tonight as you know and that'll be like readable in
06:06the morning and we were kind of umming and ahhing at the end of the game weren't we
06:09and you're on about, it's the first time I've seen Gareth Amesworth's team live, I've watched
06:14most of the Wrexham game on the telly and actually against a good side tonight, what
06:18are these, fifth?
06:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:20They were right, alright they didn't create anyone near enough but they gave them a bit
06:26of a game I thought.
06:27Yeah, yeah, yeah, it was competitive wasn't it, it was competitive.
06:29It wasn't a defeat where I'm thinking well these players have not performed and they're
06:34all getting low marks actually I thought and I think from reading from afar your reports
06:39and stuff I think it's been the case of the season where there's no lack of effort, application
06:45and attitude I'm sure is all spot on but they're missing a couple of key players tonight weren't
06:52they and Hall at right back who is just precautionary wasn't it and Kassel Dine who again you know
06:58you'll have watched all season but kind of regular players aren't they?
07:01Yeah, yeah.
07:02It's just not helpful given the way that Shrewsbury's squad is.
07:04Yeah, it just lessens obviously Ainsworth's options from the bench as well doesn't it,
07:09we saw one of the new boys get on tonight very late didn't we?
07:13Yeah, it was his debut, yeah.
07:15But look at the bench you've got a, with respect to the young lad from the academy it's a good
07:20experience for him but it's not an atmosphere you know, you want to come on for your debut
07:24in these games when you're 4-0 up, not in the crisis of trying to stave off relegation
07:28so yeah the window feels big, I hope something can get done because it looks like it needs
07:34it doesn't it?
07:35You mentioned the blocks, obviously Winchester's happened hasn't it and there's a big player
07:42here and obviously a leader and sort of key component of the midfield, I understand why
07:47that deal happened and stuff but the likes of these individuals need replacing really,
07:52the position Town are in and I know other things are going on, future planning off the
07:57pitch all of that, I get that but if the primary target for now is to stay in the
08:02division then, Ainsworth's said it hasn't he, the squad and team need a bit of help
08:07where they're at and you could even see that tonight I thought, but I don't want to, I
08:12mean I'll leave it for you to say but I don't want it to be too downbeat after tonight,
08:16this was a hard game on paper certainly wasn't it?
08:18Yeah, yeah of course, it's always going to be a difficult evening for Shrewsbury tonight
08:23so again they've given themselves a decent account of themselves but yes, on to Saturday,
08:29Mansfield at home on Saturday, we'll keep you up to date with all the transfers, comings
08:34and goings but from here at Esley Park it finished, Stockport 1, Shrewsbury 0.
