00:00But wouldn't you bet that if we asked all the Golden State Warrior fans out there, like,
00:06what is the bigger brand right now?
00:09The Warriors or Steph Curry?
00:12Don't you think most people would answer that it's Steph Curry?
00:16Don't you think?
00:17I guess fans would, but I mean, at the end of it, the brand is a $7 billion brand now
00:24with a great new building and you got the All-Star Game coming, but fans would think
00:28that it's the brand because think about the Warriors without Steph Curry and think about,
00:34you know, five years from now, what the Warriors will be and you can take any of the current
00:38players and you can keep them and that's great.
00:42You can have pods and TJD and Kaminga and Moody and whoever else you want to keep.
00:49Draymond's gone, Steph is gone, and that's the Warriors.
00:53Well, it feels to me like the turn of the century Warriors when you're winning 17 games.
00:58So, which one's bigger?
01:00It's always going to be Steph.
01:02Okay, and so then with that, if that's how we feel, and we can get back to the Logan
01:08Murdoch stuff I think a little bit later on this show, Logan Webb, by the way, is going
01:11to join us in 13 minutes, okay?
01:14Love it.
01:15Logan Webb's going to be on and so we'll get into Giants, we'll get into his Kings fandom,
01:20we could talk about Tom Brady owning the Raiders, I mean, all over the place.
01:24We'll do a big finish with Logan Webb, which if you're a fan of the show, you know what
01:28we're talking about.
01:29It's a whole lot of fun.
01:30We'll do all of that with Logan Webb coming up here in just about 15 minutes.
01:34But earlier in the day, some of you may have heard some of these comments, which is why
01:41we really wanted to start with a conversation that was focused on Steph Curry, is it seems
01:47like because the Warriors are still stuck at 500 and most people, and I think you'd
01:54raise your hand to, are sort of in this camp of, there is no magic pill, there's no deal,
02:02there's no health, there's no fountain of youth, there's no thing that's going to suddenly
02:08make the Warriors a contender in the next two weeks.
02:12And even though Steve Kerr told us last week, this will never get to the point where Steph
02:17Curry will ask for a trade or force his way out of Golden State.
02:24A, I don't know that to be true, and B, the Natives are starting to get restless.
02:31And so let's at least throw this out there and then we can all do whatever we want with
02:37it.
02:38Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo, who is a longtime NBA writer, wrote a huge article yesterday
02:43and flat out said it.
02:45It's time to trade Steph and Draymond.
02:49And he has a whole mock deal with the Houston Rockets that would bring the Warriors a couple
02:53of young players, Fred VanVleet's expiring deal, a couple other expiring deals, and then
02:59like 400 first round picks over the next six years of our lives.
03:04Okay, to the point where Grandy, by the way, was like, I think that deal's almost too good.
03:10It's too good.
03:12And then you add in not just the article in Yahoo, but Bobby Marks is throwing it out
03:21there that this conversation is coming.
03:25And here is that, Bobby Marks, who was actually on the Kevin O'Connor show on Yahoo.
03:31I think there is a moment of truth moment where you do have to sit down with Curry in
03:37the offseason and say, this is where we are and this is where our options are going to
03:41be and you know this, there's never a guarantee that someone's going to be available.
03:47They could be waiting forever that Giannis could become available.
03:50I mean, you want to go out and get the $240 million that's left on Joel Embiid, is that
03:57what you want to do?
03:59The hardest thing to do is like, and I thought they did a pretty good job this offseason
04:03with post-Clay and Heald and Anderson and Melton and that crew and kind of patching
04:10as much as they could together here.
04:13And they got off to a good start, but what we're seeing right now, this is a team that's
04:17going to be in the lottery.
04:18Okay.
04:19So, Marks is putting them in the lottery and says the moment of truth conversation is coming
04:23this summer.
04:26I can just answer my way.
04:30I can't call this crazy, but I'm not ready for this.
04:36I'm not ready for it.
04:37I don't think Warrior fans are ready for it.
04:39I don't think the organization is ready for it.
04:41I don't think Steph Curry is ready for it.
04:43It might be the right thing.
04:45It literally might.
04:47If you really want to just remove your emotion, it might be the right thing, but I don't think
04:50anybody here is ready for this.
04:52I don't think so either, but I can't help but think back to what I just revealed during
04:58the crossover, the idea of what Boston did when they traded KG and they traded Paul Pierce
05:06and they threw in Jason Terry and what they got was a bunch of picks and they turned those
05:11picks into Jason Terry and Jalen Brown.
05:15It was a little bit indirect because one of those picks got repurposed into a pick and
05:19it was a pick swap as well that they were able to utilize.
05:23It took them six years, during which time they had a winning percentage of 331.
05:29If I could tell you right now that you would go from Steph and Draymond, forget the deadline.
05:34Let's go to the summer because that's when a lot of these deals happen.
05:37The big deals happen in the summer.
05:39The Paul George OKC deal, the Boston deal, it's in the summer.
05:44You get to the summer and you decide you're going to trade Steph, Draymond, and Wiggins
05:50and you're going to get back really not much, but you're going to get multiple firsts and
05:55first round pick swaps and it's going to lead you to six years of winning 33% of your games,
06:03at which time you might be pretty good again and you might, after six years, be a team
06:09that can rebuild and reload.
06:12Is that what Joe Lacob wants?
06:14Because he already said that we're not going to be in the lottery and well, one year in,
06:18you're in the lottery and Bobby Marks is saying that you're heading for the lottery again.
06:22And you currently are.
06:23You currently are and I don't know if he's wrong or not, but you could go two more years
06:28this year and two more of let's hope and then you get to the end of it and it's like,
06:34now what do we do?
06:35Or you could pull the plug and admit that this is not working and start the rebuild
06:41now.
06:42I'll read the trade idea to you just in a second, even though this is exactly what Steph
06:46Curry yelled at everybody to get off of Twitter and stop making up ESPN, shut up and let us
06:51figure it out.
06:52But that's not that's not reality.
06:54That's not what's going to happen.
06:55Fans and media are going to continue to play with this stuff.
06:59And are they ahead of the curve or not?
07:00I don't know, but I would like to throw the question out to our listeners.
07:04Are you ready to even discuss this?
07:08I'm not saying are you ready to move on from Steph Curry, but I would love to dip our toe
07:15in the water and take your temperature.
07:17Are you ready to even acknowledge this?
07:21Are you ready to even think about this?
07:25Bobby Marks is no fool.
07:29He is a former NBA front office executive.
07:33For our money, our favorite capologist in all of the media for ESPN.
07:38He is not saying stuff willy nilly.
07:41He's not that kind of media member.
07:44He's not making a big opinion to get clicks.
07:48And he's telling you that a moment of truth conversation is on the way surrounding Steph
07:53Curry.
07:54He's talking to Kevin O'Connor when he said it.
07:56Here's what Kevin proposed in his article.
07:59The Houston Rockets would receive, and I can't even say it without having to gulp first.
08:05The Rockets would receive Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Buddy Heald, and Lindy Waters.
08:13In exchange, the Warriors would receive Reed Shepard, Cam Whitmore, these three expiring
08:21deals, Fred Van Vliet, Steven Adams, and Deshaun Tate.
08:27Also four unprotected first-round draft picks, 2027 from the Suns, two of them in 2029,
08:36the most favorable from the Mavs, Rockets, and Suns, and one in 2031 from the Rockets.
08:42Don't stop there.
08:43You also get three first-round pick swaps, 2025 via the Suns, 2027 via the Nets or Rockets,
08:52and 2028 via the Rockets.
08:55That is a haul.
08:57Does it do anything for anyone?
09:00Are you ready to even start thinking about this potential avenue?
09:08Well, I'm not, but if you think about the history of that, and you talk about what Boston
09:15got, as I mentioned, you got a bunch of firsts and pick swaps, and you know, the next year
09:21after the trade, you didn't make the playoffs, and then you had a couple of first-round ousters,
09:25and then you lost in the Eastern Conference Finals during Jalen Brown's rookie year.
09:30But part of that, too, was you had Isaiah Thomas, who was amazing early in his career.
09:36Now, can Kaminga be that, a guy who can be the centerpiece of the bridge from one era
09:42to another?
09:43Because that's what Isaiah Thomas was, and he was fifth in the MVP the year that you
09:47went to the Eastern Finals.
09:49But it's also a little different because the East and the West are different.
09:53So Boston could rebound quicker because the East is notoriously weaker.
09:59It's top-heavy and middle-weak and bottom-feeble, so if you're the Warriors in the West and
10:04you give up Steph and Draymond and everything else that you talked about, and you want to
10:09go ahead and reboot it now, you're looking at probably two or three or maybe five years
10:15of being in the lottery.
