00:00Now, back to Stiney and Guru, on 95.7 The Game.
00:05Alright, Evan in for Stiney, Daryl the Guru Johnson, Mark Willard, Dan Dibley.
00:08This is the crossover brought to you by Abundant Life Weight Loss.
00:11They know the secret to losing up to one pound of fat every day.
00:14Go to AbundantWeightLife.com.
00:17What's up, boys?
00:18Happy Wild Card Weekend.
00:20What's up, baby?
00:21Yeah, Evan.
00:22Hey-o.
00:23You ever run material that you...
00:24Oh, yeah, there we go.
00:25Microphone.
00:26Eee!
00:27Check it, check it, check it, check it out!
00:29You ever run material where you want back?
00:31All the time.
00:32Because I'm a nice guy.
00:33God, of course.
00:34He goes, Verlander had to press, or I go, they get you...
00:36458ERA got you a press?
00:38I just...
00:39Yeah.
00:40548, you're going to write the first time.
00:42I gave him a four.
00:43I gave him a four.
00:44Yeah.
00:45Yeah.
00:46Yeah, I wanted it back.
00:47But again, as Evan said it...
00:48I think they got mad at the Giants this morning because for even having a Zoom, saying that
00:52that was like small time.
00:53Small time.
00:54I missed them this morning.
00:55Were they on them?
00:57Listen, I don't know how this came together, but my guess, my stupid guess, Justin Verlander
01:03is 40.
01:04He did not want to fly to San Francisco for a press conference.
01:07No chance.
01:08See, I thought it was in person.
01:09He's like, Kate Alton is in the next room.
01:11We're fine.
01:12Let's do a Zoom.
01:13Well, she was actually on the Zoom call.
01:15Well...
01:16Her name was.
01:17At least in name, yeah.
01:18Yeah.
01:19Although it was, quote, not her name.
01:20That's right.
01:21Not Kate.
01:22Not Kate, yeah.
01:24When we do a Zoom presser, mute yourself.
01:26I got it.
01:27Just mute yourself.
01:28All right.
01:29Good Lord.
01:30If there's one thing that I am sure to do in life, wash your hands after you go to the
01:34bathroom and make sure you're on mute.
01:36Man.
01:37I won't even start a session on Zoom until the audio is off and I see that red line.
01:45Man, that's embarrassing.
01:46Yeah.
01:47Kill the camera and be on mute.
01:48Seriously.
01:49Good Lord.
01:50We did the epidemic radio.
01:51I know.
01:52We did a nightmare.
01:53That's my nightmare.
01:54We did 52 weeks together, me, you, and Steini.
01:5751 weeks, we're on Zoom.
01:59And then one week, we did all together.
02:02And then, look, look, look, the call came in.
02:05I'll never forget.
02:06I'll never forget that call where I was home and the call comes in and he said, hey, Dan,
02:11I need to talk to you.
02:12Uh-oh.
02:13And I hit mute and I told my wife, I said.
02:15It's a Dan day.
02:16He called me Dan.
02:17Oh, boy.
02:18It's a Dan day.
02:19Did you really think that?
02:20Yes.
02:22And we may want to refresh F5, the old resume, because this is about to go down via a phone
02:28call.
02:29And then I unmuted and it was our old boss, Stacy, who we love.
02:33Yeah.
02:34And look, look, look.
02:35And he's like, yeah, I need to tell you about a change we're going to make.
02:39Oh, man.
02:40I hit mute again.
02:41I said, yes.
02:42You see what we're doing here?
02:44I'm out.
02:45I'm out.
02:46And I unmuted.
02:47He got the demo.
02:48That's why I'm out.
02:50What's the change, boss?
02:51I'm getting high-pitched all of a sudden.
02:53He's like, I'm putting you with Willard.
02:56You're off Steine and Goo.
02:57And I said, so I still have a j-j-j-job?
03:00That's all.
03:01Man.
03:02Okay.
03:03I'll do anything with Nick Willard.
03:05Yeah, you're welcome.
03:06Yeah, thank you.
03:07Look at you guys now.
03:08Look at me.
03:09Rescued me from the scrappy.
03:11Wow.
03:12Not quite Nick Sorensen, but it's like you get the call and you're like, dude, we're
03:15going to be reorganizing some things.
03:18Very different position.
03:19But also, I wonder if he got that call and was like, oh, God.
03:22Yeah.
03:23It's a Nick day.
03:24I get it.
03:25That's great.
03:26I'm going to give you two.
03:27Well, I wonder, because now they're interviewing special teams coaches, and it's not like,
03:31all right, Nick, we're going to put you right away into that job.
03:34So I wonder what his reorg will be if he gets shuttled back to being the defensive line
03:40coach or the linebacker assistant or whatever it is and whether or not he wants to actually
03:45take that.
03:46Probably does.
03:47Anyway.
03:48I think it's not like he's in line to go get a better gig somewhere else.
03:52Yeah.
03:53That's Robert Sala.
03:54Well, interview with the Raiders.
03:56Yep.
03:57And the Jags.
03:58Yep.
03:59Yep.
04:00Yeah.
04:01I don't know.
04:02Brady's probably going to.
04:03He's probably going to lure somebody better.
04:04Why does that bother me that he's doing both and they're allowing it like he's really running
04:09the Raider thing.
04:10Question for you.
04:11Why does it bother you, man?
04:12I'll tell you this.
04:13The theme of the show today was what was your takeaway from wildcard weekend?
04:17I believe you to know.
04:18I've been a Brock party fan and I got drunk on the success early and kind of just head
04:23scratcher this year.
04:24Not blaming at all.
04:25But my biggest takeaway we've been doing four hours on it is fighters got him a quarterback
04:30with the quarterback play.
04:31If you allow me to go Jaworski.
04:33Yeah.
04:34I'm like, you got a guy that's took him to the Super Bowl and the championship game.
04:39Hit the reset.
04:40Apple update.
04:41Come back.
04:42But you got a guy.
04:43Half these guys.
04:44Oh, man.
04:45The Jordan love.
04:46I'm like, dude, this is all from the beginning.
04:47Here's the thing, though, I like, I'm you know that I agree with you.
04:51You know that I think dibs is with me on this.
04:54You know that we've thought that all along.
04:57But I'm going to take it to a different space as far as what got you there over the weekend.
05:01I'm not going to take a football game and now decide that Justin Herbert and Jordan
05:06Love suck.
05:07And I hope I'm not saying that I'm not like, do not count me as one of those.
05:12I see all the victory laps on Twitter and now how Brock Purdy is 1000% better than Justin
05:17Herbert.
05:18Come on, take it easy.
05:21First of all, I mean, Justin Herbert threw three picks all year and I can easily pick
05:27apart at minimum two and a half of the interceptions that he threw in this game as not his fault.
05:34Hell, one of them hit his tight end right between the two thumbs.
05:38So like Justin Herbert is fine.
05:41You can't do this over one football game.
05:44I think this is the way you kind of have to look at it, even if you want to set aside
05:48the four that everybody set aside, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes.
05:54Okay, set those aside.
05:56Then there's a group of the next and Jordan Love is in it and Justin Herbert is in it
06:02and Brock Purdy is in it.
06:04Jared Goff is in it and all of those guys are in that group.
06:07If you can get one of those, you want them to.
06:11You want them to because there's like every generation, those top four guys, you only
06:15get like a small handful of those.
06:18Not everybody gets one of those.
06:19If you're lucky enough to have a B plus, pay that guy too because I can show you all the
06:24teams that don't have an A or a B plus and those are the teams you don't want to be.
06:29It's just, it's complimentary football and look at Philadelphia where Jalen Hurts was
06:33not great on his own, but they won comfortably because their defense was good.
06:39Their special teams were good and you have an amazing running back and so Jalen Hurts
06:43was good enough and this is where all of us, the four of us and everyone in the media and
06:49all the fans and all of the non-experts, this is where we get so fixated on fantasy football
06:55and we also get fixated on quarterback rankings and all the rest of it because Brock was not
07:02as good this year as he was last year, but it's because of complimentary football.
07:07His defense wasn't as good, his running game wasn't as good, his O-line wasn't as good,
07:12he wasn't as good, his receivers wasn't as good and his coach wasn't as good.
07:17So if you want to add up all those things and look at Brock, was Brock not as good?
07:22Yes, but it's all complimentary football and you look at Philadelphia yesterday and Jalen
07:28Hurts was not great at all and it didn't matter because you ran it, you defended it, you took
07:33it away and their quarterback was worse.
07:36So I do think that all of us in this business and all of us in this sphere, we look at it
07:41too much and it's funny Evan because, and again, condolences, I want to echo what Lori
07:46said, what Lori said from Arizona, she beat me to it, but some of my best friends are
07:52San Diegans, San Diegans and I texted our thread and I immediately was trying to stir
07:58the pot and I said, Justin Herbert, he's overrated.
08:03My buddy, who's a high school football coach and has been for 25 years, he came back and
08:07said the routes they ran and what the defense did and kind of what Mark was saying of the
08:14four picks, like two and a half were not his fault and when you look at that game in totality,
08:20what happened was Houston said, okay, we're going to go ahead and put eight in the box
08:25and we're going to dare you to beat us everyone and Ladin McConkie beat them but nobody else
08:31could.
08:32So if you're Houston, you did that and you took away everybody except for Ladin McConkie,
08:38which good player, great game and all the rest of it, but a really good game, an elite
08:43game, an epic game, but at the end of it, Houston kind of dared somebody else to beat
08:48them and nobody else could.
08:49So is that on Justin Herbert?
08:51Well, yeah, it is, but it's not on him the way we all want to make it be on him and that's
08:58kind of my big takeaway.
09:00And they couldn't run the ball either because Houston came up and put eight in the box and
09:06said, all right, Justin, you've got one receiver who can get open and the rest of these bums,
09:11apologies, Evan, because I know it's still too soon, but we dare the rest of you bums
09:16to try and beat us and they couldn't.
09:18And not every interception ends up like it was also circumstantial of where they got
09:22the picks.
09:23They turned into six every single time, you had to pick six, you had another one that
09:26went, I think, what, down to like the five yard line, you punch that thing in.
09:30Now you're playing a completely different game.
09:32The Chargers, we know this, we've watched Harbaugh before, you're not built for that.
09:35You're not built to come back from two touchdowns down in the second half.
09:39That's not, that's just not who they are.
09:41I was a good first year for Harbaugh and Justin Herbert with the Chargers.
09:45That's a good first year.
09:46Yeah.
09:47Differing opinions here.
09:48I think...
09:49Well, you're a fan though.
09:50You're a fan.
09:51And he lost a bundle.
09:52My neighbor.
09:53I'm a list.
09:54I'm a list.
09:56You're not wrong.
09:57You're not wrong, but you know what I mean?
09:59If you take the emotions out of it, like...
10:02Oh, I'm emotionless now.
10:03I wasn't two days ago, but...
10:04Yeah.
10:05You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HG1 San Francisco, always live on the
10:08free Odyssey app, Twitch and YouTube, powered by First North Cal Credit Union.
10:12The thing about, let's just take Herbert, because this is who we're talking about, and
10:16I'd like to think I've watched the majority of the snaps since he's come into the league.
10:20He has all the physical talent in the world and he's still a really good quarterback.
10:26But there is something between the ears that, for whatever reason, it just doesn't click.
10:32When he's in tight spots, he turtles up.
10:36And that's something that's happened his entire career.
10:38Like, he's had big games, big numbers, I think he threw 38 touchdowns as sophomore, so he's
10:42like...
10:43He's thrown for 5,000 yards.
10:44He's been awesome.
10:45And there's...
10:46It's undoubted.
10:47But I do think that's why the conversation of being overrated is valid towards someone
10:52like him.
10:54That's something that, at least so far, I don't have doubts about, what's between his
10:59ears.
11:01And yeah, he might lack physical tools, he might not be the biggest guy, but to me, that
11:06gives me confidence in him to be able to figure out the rest and what he can do as opposed
11:11to trying to force it.
11:13Literally...
11:14Okay, so his second touchdown in that game was the first play after they just got a pick.
11:20One thing you can do is put the ball in danger, if you're on plus territory and that side
11:24of the field, up six.
11:26You have a chance to, at the very least, in field goal range, go get more points, go up
11:30by two scores, and he throws across...
11:33Because he can do this, he's rolling right, throws across his body, 45 yards to the opposite
11:38side of the field, right there, breadbasket pick.
11:41Like, that can happen.
11:42And I don't think Brock Purdy's the kind of quarterback that makes that choice.
11:45He can't make the throw, but he doesn't even make that choice.
11:49Yeah, no, I mean, that's all fair, and again, that's why, like, none of these guys, you're
11:53dealing with an imperfect science.
11:55They're all gonna have bad games, bad throws, bad decisions.
11:59I think the way I come out of the weekend in terms of a new appreciation for Brock Purdy,
12:04if that's how people are feeling, I would more say it this way.
12:09Winning a playoff game as a quarterback is very, very hard, and it's why all of these
12:16guys that we're watching this weekend, it's why usually, unless his name is Patrick,
12:21this weekend, you can probably count his career playoff victories on one hand.
12:26You can do it with Stafford, and he's gonna turn 40 pretty soon.
12:29A baller, man.
12:30Okay, and you can do it on one hand.
12:32I think same with Jared Goff.
12:34Jordan Love will expire this year with still one in his career.
12:38Jaden Daniels, that was a big deal yesterday.
12:41I thought he was fantastic.
12:42It's where I was with Purdy on year one.
12:46Goff wins.
12:47Justin Herbert.
12:48On the road, too.
12:49I think the fourth rookie quarterback to win a playoff game on the road.
12:51Blacko, Russell Wilson, and give me one more.
12:54Who's the other?
12:55What rookie?
12:56Rookie quarterback.
12:57Someone on the road.
12:58Rookie quarterback.
12:59I would guess Big Ben.
13:00I could be wrong, but I mean.
13:01That sounds maybe right.
13:02Well, not because his rookie year, they were like 13-3, right?
13:05The point is, is Justin Herbert is now, what are we, five years in?
13:09Yeah.
13:10Right?
13:11He has zero.
13:12Brock has four.
13:13Yeah, boy.
13:14He's got four already.
13:16Sorry, Evan.
13:17You've got to appreciate that.
13:19I don't care who his teammates were.
13:21He was up by 27 in one of them.
13:23He's got four.
13:24Well, you know what?
13:25Bad beat.
13:26No, Blacko was the other rookie quarterback.
13:27Blacko.
13:28I thought you mentioned him.
13:29Yeah, you said it twice.
13:30No, I thought you said him.
13:31Yeah, definitely did.
13:32Anyway.
13:33It's okay.
13:34Anyway.
13:35Whatever.
13:36There's so many people out there.
13:37There's so many people out there.
13:38To your point, winning a playoff game as a quarterback is hard, but I do think that we
13:42assigned too much to the quarterback.
13:45Come on, guys.
13:46I think about Brock Purdy at Green Bay.
13:49If it wasn't for Hufunga and the block punt, maybe they don't win that game.
13:54You look at-
13:55Well, that wasn't Purdy.
13:56That was Jimmy.
13:57That was Jimmy.
13:58My bad.
13:59Yeah.
14:00I'm going to go ahead and retract that.
14:01We just got into that.
14:02Yeah.
14:03The Jimmy factor.
14:04You look at all the games that rookies win, it's not like they win them alone.
14:06Right.
14:07But I'm using your line to Willard's point.
14:09I appreciate what you came out the box with because I thought you were going to go with
14:12what's on Twitter.
14:13No.
14:14No.
14:15Herbert's a bum now and all that.
14:16I'm going to say this to Evan because we were sparring a little bit.
14:18I think Jim Harbaugh, he gets an A plus for me for getting that team and where it was
14:24at to the playoffs.
14:25Now, what we saw in regard to a little regression from Herbert, I don't believe falls at the
14:30doorstep of Harbaugh or dimming his light on taking that team to the playoffs, but you
14:35always said this, Guru, where do we draw the line?
14:39And my line is I root for a team where the quarterback is getting paid $60 million and
14:44he's 2-5 in the playoffs.
14:46Is Dak their whole sole reason they're 2-5?
14:50But I saw you get Lemon Booty in the most inopportune times.
14:54So my takeaway yesterday was the distance.
14:58How far have some of these guys gone?
15:00And there's a showdown next week between Lamar and Justin Allen, and the loser is
15:05going to be on the continuance of a you've never gotten there.
15:10So for Brock to already have four and we've taken calls, oh, well, he had this, he had
15:16that.
15:17Well, if we're doing that, I can do the Jimmy thing with, OK, he was the quarterback, but
15:22he's got a great record.
15:23Like where does this stop?
15:25So for Brock, already in the what I deem embryo stages of his career to have four wins,
15:31that was my takeaway.
15:32Like it's not about you're not Justin Allen.
15:35It's not about you're tall as Justin Herbert.
15:38You know how to run your team when it's clicking to get the W.
15:42It's the weirdest thing that this and so many like of people in this fan base will scream
15:50and yell about, oh, but he had help.
15:53And then the next breath, you'll call and say somebody needs to get Steph Curry some
15:56help.
15:57Well, wait a minute.
15:58Wait a minute.
15:59What are which one are we doing here?
16:01Do you need to have teammates or not?
16:04Because it's so many of of of people in this fan base are asking for something that I believe
16:11largely doesn't exist.
16:12If you want to say it does with Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
16:15Great.
16:16It exists.
16:17Those might be the two.
16:18They're probably the two best players in the league.
16:20And you don't have one.
16:21So oh, well.
16:23But this idea that somebody, because they're a quarterback, are supposed to just gather
16:27everyone around them, put them on their back, carry them all the way to February, it doesn't
16:31exist.
16:32It's a storybook.
16:33It's a it's a movie.
16:34I haven't had the greatest line about Derek Henry, what he's meaning to Lamar.
16:39There's nothing wrong with help.
16:41I don't want to speak for you.
16:42And Saquon in Philly.
16:45Someone tell A.J. Brown, that's why you guys are good.
16:48Stops reading books and screaming.
16:50That was crap.
16:51That's why he can read a book.
16:52I mean, like, apparently he reads that book every day and none of us have ever seen ever
16:59notice the first two pages of that book.
17:01Every single game.
17:02That's like LeBron.
17:04Like when you open the first chapter of the book, you haven't read the book before and
17:09you're not a reader because you were number one, you wouldn't bring it on the field.
17:12First and foremost, it'd be in your locker.
17:13And if it were if you were actually interested in the book, you would be halfway done with
17:17it.
17:18He doesn't have.
17:19I don't know.
17:20I mean, you it could be a reread.
17:22I understand that.
17:23Like if it's just reminding himself, I can't remember what the fourth time you ever reread
17:28a book that you really liked.
17:30Not a self-help book.
17:31But what book have you read?
17:33It's been a reread.
17:34I'm sure a reread.
17:35Shout out, Rihanna.
17:36Reread.
17:37I like my girl.
17:38I mean, literally the books I read to my kids every single night was probably like Good
17:43Night Moon.
17:44Dude, there you go.
17:45That's I can recite Good Night Moon to you.
17:47And don't forget Good Night Soccer, which was a little bit of a one off that also gets
17:52read.
17:53And we've watched Sam Jackson go the bleep to sleep multiple times.
17:56Yes, we have.
17:57We're not quite ready for that with my two year old.
17:59But maybe tonight.
18:00Yeah.
18:01Yeah.
18:02But anyway, I mean, they're able to clearly put it behind them because I don't think they
18:06played their best game.
18:07And they still were able to pretty much just take care of Green Bay with relative ease.
18:11I mean, and, you know, the first play of the game obviously didn't help, but they capitalized
18:15on it.
18:16And that's what good teams do.
18:18They're the better team.
18:19They're the healthier team.
18:20It was a better spot.
18:21It was.
18:22It was all of those things.
18:23I just I don't know, man.
18:24I get it.
18:25We live in a time where social media does not have any patience for context.
18:30Nobody wants context.
18:32If you called your buddies and went, Justin Herbert, four packs, huh?
18:36Well, you didn't you didn't watch the game and I didn't watch the game before we get
18:40out of here.
18:41You're doing that.
18:42Why are you putting on Justin Herbert?
18:43Did he hit his tight end in between the thumbs?
18:46The game was already over.
18:47All that, too.
18:48Right.
18:49But you know the idea of four picks.
18:50Let's not act like it didn't look like the Chargers were about to boat race him.
18:53Yes.
18:54It was a cherry pick.
18:55I'm not saying he played well.
18:56I'm not saying he played well.
18:57They got three points off three turnovers.
18:59The other team got 16 off theirs.
19:00Like, that's the difference in the game.
19:02This really means a lot to me because I feel like I'm the captain of the black head coach
19:07and delegation.
19:08Not today.
19:09And Evans helped me.
19:10But I really I can't wait for this diagnosis from you, too, because I know where Evans
19:14comes from.
19:15So listen, this is bigger than social media.
19:18And Stani and I had a provocative we did over the weekend just about the volume.
19:23Mike Tomlins, he's headed to the Hall of Fame.
19:26He's a stud.
19:27He's won a Super Bowl.
19:29But Willard and Dibbs in life, in sports, I feel like you create this this standard
19:34that you set and built.
19:36But I'm sorry.
19:37I watched Pittsburgh look lifeless on what I do.
19:40OK, lose the game.
19:41But they look lifeless Saturday.
19:45And now this is six playoff games in a row that you've lost.
19:48I'm not saying and I hope I don't set Tomlin's a bum, fire him.
19:52But I do believe in the great Bill Walsh talked about it.
19:56Sometimes a voice can can get stale.
19:58And I'm just looking at Mike Tomlin like Evan was asking me, well, why did you think they
20:03were going to be Baltimore?
20:04Because they got Tomlin.
20:05Maybe he could make it work.
20:07And now I just double back and Dallas needs a new coach and I would take him.
20:11But my point is, maybe Tomlin has just worn out his welcome in Pitt and a change would
20:16do well for both maybe.
20:19But for people like Stoddy Friday got kind of mad at me because it sounded like I was
20:22saying I'm not reflecting on Tomlin being great.
20:26But when you lose six playoff games in a row, I'm starting to think, man, maybe something's
20:31up to where not you're a bum, but maybe it's time for me.
20:35There's an article out there today and it's called it's titled The Mike Tomlin Paradox,
20:41which means check it out.
20:42On the one hand, Mike Tomlin in the regular season, they've beat their win total set by
20:47Vegas five years in a row, and they've had a winning record for every year of his his
20:53time there in Pittsburgh.
20:54Yet on the other side, you don't have a quarterback and you're not really built to be a winning
21:00playoff team.
21:01So the paradox is, what do you want?
21:03Do you want a coach who gets your team there every year, gets a winning record and gets
21:09you in the mix?
21:10Or do you want a guy like and I'm going to use Kyle Shanahan just to skew local.
21:14But Shanahan, we're in the Super Bowl.
21:16Now we're six and 11.
21:18Maybe next year we're good.
21:19And not that he goes like that, but what would you rather have?
21:22Because Mike Tomlin every year gets his team in the mix and then you get to the playoffs
21:27and you mentioned it six straight playoff losses.
21:30So it becomes a little bit of a of a tough call because you look at this team this year
21:35and most of us wouldn't have thought they would have been a playoff team.
21:39But he coached him to the playoffs.
21:40Right?
21:41That's what I think is key here.
21:42People are forgetting what they thought the Steelers were going to be at the beginning
21:44of the year.
21:45They weren't supposed to beat the Bengals.
21:46Hell, they spent three quarters of the year in first place and they weren't supposed to
21:49be that.
21:50They don't have the talent to do that, but they did.
21:53I would not even consider firing Mike Tomlin.
21:56I would do this and maybe some would argue the 49ers are in the same boat.
22:00I would consider sort of a reinvention of yourself and it's not so much Tomlin's organization.
22:07I think the Steelers really value this Pittsburgh mentality.
22:11They're very much three yards cloud of dust.
22:13We're tougher than you like we want more like we want more marks on our helmet than you
22:19at the end of the game.
22:20I don't know if that works all the time in the NFL anymore.
22:22When you're going against Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow in your division, you better be
22:26a little bit more dynamic than that.
22:28Like Mike Tomlin brings teams to the playoffs every year that don't have the better quarterback.
22:33That's amazing.
22:34But they just don't pick it and I'm sure and Evan was like, how do you do it?
22:37So he was the 21st pick.
22:39So I mean, that was a little bit of a reach and he's not the GM.
22:43I know that he would have a say in this.
22:45You know what I mean?
22:46There is a brother.
22:47I would let go in Pittsburgh, but it ain't Mike Tomlin.
22:49I've had about enough address.
22:51Pickett.
22:52Oh, no.
22:53Oh, Lord.
22:54This guy's going into his charters.
22:55We'll take him.
22:56He's what they need.
22:57That's what nobody needs him.
23:01You don't nobody.
23:02No, look around the league.
23:04We did this last night on Fox.
23:05Check this out.
23:06Go to the top ten receivers this year in the NFL.
23:10How many of them are in the playoffs this year?
23:12Three.
23:13Correct.
23:14Top 10.
23:15Top 10.
23:16Jefferson.
23:17Top 10 running.
23:18And.
23:19Loud McConkie is number 10.
23:20Oh, wow.
23:21Six running.
23:22Seven running back.
23:23Seven.
23:24That's amazing.
23:25Seven of the top running backs are in the playoffs.
23:26And at least five of them were kissed off by their old team.
23:29Right.
23:30Saquon.
23:31Derek Henry.
23:32Josh Jacobs.
23:34So, like, the receiver bubble has burst.
23:37Don't do this.
23:38So you're out on Pickens.
23:39Well, look.
23:40You're out on A.J.
23:41Brown.
23:42He's out on you.
23:43I'm out on Brown.
23:44I'm out on A.J.
23:45Brown, too.
23:46Disrespectful, man.
23:47Give me Devontae Smith, because that guy is a little bit less dynamic, but he's so much
23:50smarter, so much better of a teammate.
23:53Pickens needs a pick me up every third quarter of every game.
23:57And then you give him a microphone and he torches the organization every chance he gets.
24:04It's like, dude, are you worth it?
24:06No.
24:07We cannot have that.
24:08So I predict holdout city in Pittsburgh this year because Pickens is going into the last
24:12year of his deal.
24:13Evan, y'all need a receiver.
24:14They need the number one, man.
24:16Russell Wilson went full Kirk Cousins mode where you got to December and all of a sudden
24:22it was midnight and the chariot turned into a pumpkin.
24:24And Tomlin probably should have gone to Justin Fields to at least have that dynamic runoff.
24:30It worked when you switched it.
24:32When you switched Fields out for Russell, it worked.
24:36And then what, did they lose five in a row?
24:38They lost their fourth in the last four games.
24:41This is why I love Mike Tomlin, though.
24:43Like, listen to what we're saying.
24:44Pittsburgh is going through the same thing that the Raiders are.
24:47They're looking for their QB.
24:49Yeah.
24:50Meantime, they go to the playoffs every year.
24:51How the hell do you do that?
24:53That's not what the Raiders have done.
24:55No.
24:56The Steelers do it.
24:57Okay, yeah.
24:58Point is, is they're the Bears.
24:59They're the Raiders.
25:00They're the Giants.
25:01They're looking for their QB.
25:02They've been doing it for four years.
25:04You know who has the longest drought, right?
25:06Without a playoff win.
25:08And I looked this up earlier today.
25:09The team with the longest drought without a playoff win.
25:12You won't get this if you guessed ten times.
25:14It's crazy.
25:15And they have their quarterback.
25:16They paid their quarterback, but they have not won a playoff game.
25:19I'm going to go Arizona Cardinals.
25:20It's a good guess, but it's not true.
25:22The last time they won a playoff game, Evan was not shaving.
25:26Evan was probably in second grade.
25:27This is incredible.
25:29Oh, I know who it is now.
25:30I just started shaving a couple years ago.
25:31Oh, I know who it is.
25:32Dude, you had a beard in fourth grade.
25:33Get out of here.
25:34No, my brother did.
25:35I was a late bloomer, but I came around.
25:36I appreciate it.
25:37Well, the Raiders is 22 years, right?
25:38Yeah.
25:39I got it.
25:40I know where it's at.
25:41Number two on the list.
25:42I got it.
25:43What do you got?
25:44New York.
25:45The Jets.
25:46No.
25:47No.
25:48They have the longest drought.
25:49Yes, Evan.
25:50They beat the Chargers in 2010.
25:51They have the longest drought without making it.
25:52Oh, okay.
25:53The longest drought without winning one is the Miami Dolphins.
25:54Now, 24 years.
25:55Wow.
25:56Think about that.
25:57No playoff win, and you paid Tua a million dollars.
26:0352.
26:04Yeah.
26:06By the way, this led to another question, and we were just chatting about this in the
26:12other room.
26:13In the green room.
26:14Maybe it's just because we don't live in these cities and we live here, but this hand-wringing
26:20over what the Niners are about to do with Brock.
26:23I'm fascinated by Tua got it, Goff got it.
26:28Dak got it.
26:29Dak got it.
26:30Trevor Lawrence got it.
26:32Love got it.
26:33And I didn't hear, not only did I not hear a buildup to it, I didn't really hear much
26:38of a reaction when it happened.
26:40It was a shoulder shrug nationally.
26:43Trevor Lawrence, who you're not even sure if he's mediocre.
26:49Number one overall pick, tall with a great head of hair and an arm.
26:54But a national shoulder shrug on that money.
26:57Meantime, here's four playoff victories, two NFC Championship appearances, a Super Bowl
27:02appearance, overtime, all of that.
27:05And before it's even allowed to be discussed, people are screaming about it every day for
27:11four months running.
27:12But not for me, though.
27:13Why?
27:14I'm not here.
27:15Why is this so different than those?
27:17You know why.
27:18Draftism.
27:19And then that and those ruddy, rosy red cheeks and his aw shucks demeanor and the fact that
27:24he's not that big, he doesn't have a big arm.
27:27He doesn't do anything really, really eye-poppingly great.
27:31And he's a product of Shanahan's system.
27:34Thanks.
27:35You're welcome.
27:36You guys got to hear what, y'all got to hear what Fred Warner said about this when he was
27:40on TV over the weekend, which we're going to have coming up real quick.
27:43We've been talking about it.
27:44Okay.
27:45Yeah.
27:46Okay.
27:47Thanks for listening.
27:48We've been talking about Warriors and Raptors at 4.30.
27:49Coming up next on 95.70.
27:50Thanks for listening.
27:51We've been talking about Warriors and Raptors at 4.30.
27:52Coming up next on 95.70.
