00:00Well, hopefully I won't have to share this with Milhouse and Martin.
00:03Here's a look at the brand new Jack Spacific, the Simpsons Radioactive Man.
00:19Collect your favorite cartoon characters from the Simpsons TV series with the first wave
00:23of the Simpsons 5-inch scale figures featuring premium detail and articulation.
00:27These iconic characters from the Simpsons are sure to please collectors and cartoon
00:30lovers alike.
00:32Looks like I bought more than I bargained for.
00:34But is Radioactive Man worth the asking price he is online?
00:37Before we answer that question, I'm sure the first question you guys are probably going
00:40to be asking is just how tall the figure is.
00:41No, actually, I was asking the price.
00:43No, before that, before that, let's first figure out how tall the figure stands.
00:47If you really want to include though the lightning bolt that he's got on top of his head, Radioactive
00:51Man is in fact about five and a half inches in height.
00:54If you don't want to factor that in, the figure is actually only about five and a quarter
00:57inches in height, which translates to about a figure that's 13 and a half centimeters
01:01tall.
01:03So I did order Radioactive Man from Entertainment Earth.
01:05The price that they were asking over there I think was about $26.
01:09A standard Simpsons figure though by Jack's at the same similar size is about $17.
01:14So you can see right there, there's about a $9 to $10 difference between this guy and
01:18say a character like Crusty the Clown.
01:21Now if you're looking though at the proportions of the figure, the one thing that kind of
01:23does bother me about Radioactive Man, especially if you compare say with like a Homer Simpson.
01:27Yes, I get it though that he's supposed to be a little bit more muscular, but it almost
01:31does seem like his body's a different kind of proportions, at least just the way they
01:34designed the figure than Homer is or maybe for that matter, like Willie, who's quite
01:39equally strong as well.
01:41Here's also what the figure looks like though with Moe Sislak, also here Otto.
01:45And here's also what the figure though looks like with Bart Simpson.
01:47It only then just dawned on me, I never picked up the Super 7 release of Radioactive Man,
01:52and speaking though of prices, I think that guy was even on the line on his own for $54.99,
01:56about $55.
01:57I don't know if I'm really going to pull the trigger anymore when it comes to Super 7 stuff
02:01from Simpsons, just because again, I know the line has already been canceled.
02:05Do I really want to kind of go back in there and kind of pick up the last remaining characters
02:08of whatever they have left of their, I guess their ongoing waves, which again is very little.
02:13There's only about like four figures I think I haven't yet picked up from Super 7.
02:16I don't even know really if I have any interest doing it anymore, but I certainly did have
02:20interest to pick up Radioactive Man.
02:22In getting him though out of the packaging, one thing that's kind of cool about him is
02:24that he does actually have the standee to recreate Radioactive Man number one.
02:29Of course the figure does also come included with a waist clip stand, but he also comes
02:33more importantly with also an instruction booklet.
02:35And the instruction booklet would be one thing I would recommend looking at first.
02:38I mean, it may look like quite a meaty read, but then you realize basically all of it is
02:42just some additional writing from other languages.
02:45Really the only thing that you really would want to be looking at is probably the first
02:47front page and then also the back page.
02:50The back page first of all tells you how to take off that plastic piece on the back
02:53of his body.
02:54That's the thing to basically just to prevent the batteries from draining.
02:57Also how to turn on and off his light up feature that's on the front of his chest.
03:01And then of course more importantly, how to eventually change the batteries.
03:05Luckily though for Jax that they included the batteries already.
03:08You need LR41s or AG3 batteries and you need three of them and that screws onto the back
03:13of his body.
03:14Don't worry, I'll cover all of that in a second.
03:15Let's just move that off to the side.
03:16So as mentioned already, the figure does come included with a little standee.
03:20This is really kind of cool.
03:22As we certainly see though, was it three men in a comic book?
03:25Radioactive Man of course issue number one was the holy grail that all three of them
03:29had really wanted to have in their collection and then ultimately they all kind of pooled
03:32in together to buy that comic.
03:34Where ultimately it did mean that they had to share the comic and we all know the result
03:37of what ended up happening to Radioactive Man number one.
03:40It got ripped apart by the dog.
03:42It got electrocuted.
03:43In the end, I guess the birds made it into part of their nests, but the fact that we
03:47actually get ourselves a little recreation of this is kind of really cool.
03:51On the back though, it's pretty solid and plastic.
03:53On the bottom, it's a little bit more hollow though than that and of course it's basically
03:56two pieces put together.
03:58You have the exploding nuclear bomb there in the back, Mushroom Cloud and on the top
04:02we've got Radioactive Man number one back in November 1952 for only 10 cents.
04:07You can't buy anything now for 10 cents.
04:09On the other side, we've got Created a Hero.
04:12So what you basically do with this, and this by the way is all also translucent plastic
04:15that they used down below here.
04:16It's really cool.
04:18It doesn't light up though, which you would think though that with Radioactive Man already
04:21lighting up that they would have done something very similar to the base.
04:24I mean with how thick this actually is, probably they could have incorporated some batteries,
04:28but I know that would also have increased this.
04:30A tiny little violin?
04:32No, not a tiny little violin.
04:34Would have increased the cost of the figure.
04:36So we'll put that right over there.
04:37The figure, like I said, also comes included with a stand.
04:39The little post piece here actually does have some articulation, so you can move it
04:43here.
04:44A nice loud ratcheted joint too.
04:45I don't even know why I had to bring that so close to the camera.
04:49This also does ratchet there too, and I thought this would actually open and close, but it
04:54doesn't.
04:55I guess it's just so it secures a little bit more around his waist.
04:58But if you look at the back of this, there's a hole right there.
05:00You basically just take the peg that's provided, peg that in place just like that, and then
05:05you got yourself a way to attach Radioactive Man.
05:08Before you do all of that though, in fact, you can actually go back a little bit.
05:12Right here though, the figure does also have a peg.
05:15So if you want to just actually have him just standing on the actual base rather than flying
05:19in it, you can just simply attach him right there.
05:22Because the figure, if you look at the bottom of his feet, does actually have peg holes.
05:26But let's just move ahead with that.
05:28We just bring this up a little bit.
05:29If we want to recreate the way that it is in the front of the comics, basically like
05:32flying towards this, the only downside to these Jack-specific figures is that there's
05:36no articulation where you can move the head up.
05:38So Radioactive Man, unfortunately, isn't going to necessarily be looking at where he's going.
05:42He's basically just going to be, well, first of all, let's get him on his display stand.
05:46So first of all, we want to kind of lift the cape up.
05:49Because this doesn't open and close, you sort of have to put it in on the side and then
05:53turn it around.
05:55And then basically you just bring this back up a little bit, fly him in.
05:58It kind of looks a little similar to that.
06:01I probably could have maybe looked and referenced that a little bit better.
06:04But at least it kind of gives you an idea of how you can have this thing posed.
06:08Now if you don't want to choose to have it that way, and again, you've got articulation
06:11here as well.
06:12So you can move this up and down.
06:13Simply just, again, turn the figure a little bit, slide him off the waist clip, put him
06:17right over here with wonky looking feet.
06:19And we're just going to go ahead and detach this again from the display stand.
06:23And again, you can then get yourself Radioactive Man, kind of in a little more of a heroic
06:27stoic pose, which of the two options available, I might actually go with this route instead.
06:32And just get him onto this display stand, just like that.
06:35Looks good, other than obviously it didn't attach properly onto the peg.
06:39The peg, by the way, though, they have placed the hole a little bit further forward because
06:42obviously it wouldn't have made any sense to have it more closer back to the heel.
06:45But yeah, that looks good.
06:46I might end up just having it displayed like that, which unfortunately then means I'll
06:49have to find a place to put this because I would hate to really lose this if I ever changed
06:52my mind down the road.
06:54So let's just take him off his display base.
06:55We'll move that off to the side.
06:56I'll show you where the battery compartment is on Radioactive Man.
07:00So if you look on the back of his cape, at least they concealed it nicely.
07:03The battery compartment is right here.
07:04You'll have to unscrew this and then install your LR41 batteries, three of them, one, two,
07:08and three.
07:09Obviously, that's already been done.
07:10I didn't have to worry about doing that right again, this guy, the packaging, and then you
07:13have your on and off switch.
07:14Currently, it is set to on.
07:17The thing that also is kind of interesting about this is that I thought that on would
07:21have actually been over here, but you can see it's really hard to make this out.
07:24I just basically knew when I took this guy to the packaging, the setting that it was
07:28already.
07:29I just switched it to the opposite setting.
07:30Yes, there's some visible screws, unfortunately, on the back of the figure's body, but at least
07:34the soft cape that they put over top is going to hide all of that.
07:38And then all you really have to then do is you're going to press the belt buckle here
07:41for Radioactive Man.
07:42The symbol here on the front of his chest will pulsate a few times and then you'll start
07:47to see that each of the sides of the symbol will sort of deplete on its own.
07:51They'll go like boom, boom, and boom, which won't make that noise, obviously.
07:55So let's just go ahead and press the belt buckle.
07:59Shield your eyes, children.
08:00Shield your eyes.
08:01You can see how well that glows.
08:04And this does this for a while.
08:06In fact, actually, I thought I had to go back to the belt buckle and turn it off again.
08:09You'll see there's one, there's two, and now over three.
08:12All three of them will diminish.
08:14Going back though, when I pressed the button again, thinking I would do that to turn it
08:17off, it just basically cycled through the whole sequence again.
08:21Was it really necessary to add the batteries?
08:23That would be then the big asking question again.
08:24Like you're looking at a figure that's $10 more than, well, let's bring back in Homer
08:28Simpson.
08:29$17 figure, $26 figure.
08:31I mean, without the batteries, you would really have to ask, like with just the display stand
08:36and Radioactive Man present as he is now, how much would he have been less?
08:41Maybe $5 less, $2 less?
08:43I don't really even know.
08:44Because I mean, there's a lot of plastic that went into this.
08:46The battery light up features, I don't know how much more that tacks onto the budget of
08:49what they're producing for this figure.
08:51I mean, unfortunately though, it does limit any articulation to be expected there in his
08:55waist.
08:56You can't do anything with it.
08:57The unfortunate trade-off though for Radioactive Man, one thing I will say is that I don't
09:01want to say it looks more like a Happy Meal toy, because clearly Happy Meal toys would
09:05never have the levels of posability that figures like this would have.
09:08But I can't again help but think that looking at this guy, it looks like something I would
09:11have probably gotten at McDonald's.
09:14That being said though, the figure's sculpt is pretty good.
09:17I mean, for a classic looking Radioactive Man, of course, we've got the Radioactive
09:20Man symbol there on the top.
09:21That's not just been painted.
09:22No, no.
09:23It's actually been sculpted there.
09:24You've got the lightning bolt there on the back of his head.
09:26There's still head articulation.
09:27I mean, the fact, this figure isn't just a brick.
09:30You can actually do some things with it.
09:33The coloring of his chest looks good.
09:35I will say though, like the coloring of his chest isn't quite the same color as his limbs,
09:40his head, or really for that matter, his lower leg.
09:42It kind of seems to be like they probably have painted the chest a different color,
09:46and then they would have then molded these in red plastic.
09:49Of course, we already talked about the fact he does have the soft cape.
09:51It's a nice detail though on the side of his arm.
09:53It kind of actually looks a little bit like Mega Man.
09:55I don't know if this is telling us how much energy he has left in the tank.
09:58Of course, he's got himself as well, the watch on the other side there too.
10:02Nice overall looking figure, but again, I don't know if he really necessarily needed
10:05to have the light up features.
10:07To include though, things like this with the deluxe releases, because again, there's also
10:10the Dracula Burns, which I really am anxious to get my hands on.
10:13Dracula Burns also comes with his casket.
10:16I think for that alone, that's pretty much all I think the figures really needed to have
10:19to be part of that deluxe treatment.
10:21I don't really feel like light up features weren't all that necessary.
10:24I mean, it's a cool touch, but it just means that's something else I'm going to have to
10:28worry about down the road of changing the batteries.
10:30As for the figure's articulation, Radioactive Man in fact does have a rotation in his head.
10:35It rotates all the way around.
10:36His arms do almost as good of a job.
10:39Of course, they get a little bit tied up around that cape area, and of course, there I go
10:42pressing the button.
10:43I knew that was going to happen.
10:44He can't tinge out easily enough.
10:46There is also no swivel here in his bicep.
10:50There's also no swivel, I should say, in the elbow, but at least you can bend it back and
10:53forth.
10:54Hands in fact do rotate all the way around.
10:56Again, the only thing that this figure unfortunately is sacrificing in is he has no articulation
11:00here in the waist, but though he does split out on the legs.
11:03You take his legs and move forward, you can move them back, bend at the knee.
11:07No articulation down below here, but he does in fact have articulation in his ankle.
11:11You can also rock it back and forth there as well.
11:14Is it a good figure?
11:15I think so, yes.
11:16I don't know, again, if we are going to be getting any more deluxe figures.
11:19It sort of does seem like Jack Specific is really coming up with a lot of cool ideas.
11:23Some ideas, again, depending on personal preference, I liked more personally the prank phone that
11:30most Tavern Ritter had.
11:31I know some people kind of said, well, that just seems to me like a waste of money.
11:34If I'm going to invest anything into what they're doing with Jack Specific, it's more
11:37really just the figures, or if anything, the evil Crested Clown doll.
11:41The Tavern phone was probably an unnecessary release, but certainly when it comes to things
11:46like this, is really a Radioactive Man for $10, almost $10 more, really worth that price
11:53when really all considered, all the other Simpsons figures of a five inch scale have
11:56all for the most part been around $17, $16 to $17, depending on where you guys are finding
12:01these.
12:02Radioactive Man asks a little bit more from your budget, but in the end of it, at least
12:06he does come in clue with that Radioactive Man number one sign.
12:09I don't feel disappointed at all.
12:11The fact that I'm paying more to get something like that, because even though I probably
12:14don't have any plans to have this guy in flight, I do actually like the idea of having
12:18imposed stoically in front of it.
12:20So the world is safe again, but for how long?
12:23One thing though, I did want to point out here in final looks of the figure is the placement
12:26of the peg.
12:27I don't know why though, Jack Specific of all things chose to have the peg so far to
12:30the far edge of the display base, which you're unfortunately not seeing right now.
12:35Oh, wait, wait here.
12:37Okay.
12:38It's coming back again.
12:40The price though, where they've put the peg, even if you have the legs spread on Radioactive
12:43Man, there's no way that he can stand in the middle of the base.
12:47Had I been Jack Specific and had I been the one that was in charge of putting the peg
12:50on the base, I think I myself, oh, it's gone again.
12:53I think myself probably would have had it a little bit more closer to the middle so
12:57that when Radioactive Man is standing stoically like this, he wouldn't look like he's leaning
13:02to the far side.
13:03Now the price point though for Radioactive Man already established is that this guy's
13:07Being asked a little bit more out of your budget, $10, about $9 to $10 more.
13:11I mean a regular Jack Specific figure goes for around $17.
13:15So for that, at least you're getting yourself a display base.
13:17I think if not for that, I would be really even more disappointed that I was paying so
13:21much more just for a light up feature on the front of his chest.
13:24I don't feel really the light up feature is necessary, but the fact that at least they
13:28are including the backdrop of Radioactive Man number one, it's less of a sting for
13:32me that I'm paying a little bit more for this guy versus a regular Simpsons figure.
13:37What do you guys think of Radioactive Man?
13:38Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:39Have you guys picked up any of the deluxe Simpsons figures?
13:43Still on my sights though is to get Dracula Burns.
13:45Yeah, he would have been a perfect thing to look at during the spooky spot season, but
13:49c'est la vie.
13:50I'm going to have to wait and see if I can try to track him down through other means.
13:53Speaking of other means of picking up these figures, one mean that you could go is going
13:57the route of Entertainment Earth.
13:58That's in fact where I've actually picked up both him and Moe Sislak.
14:01I've also picked up Lisa.
14:02I'm just waiting for Lisa to be delivered to my doorstep.
14:05But if you wanted to click the link down below in the video description, that link
