00:00Well, we finally have citizens from Springfield, but I didn't realize they'd be so small.
00:05Here's a look at the brand-new Jax Pacific, the Simpsons, two-and-a-half-inch figures.
00:27The Simpsons, first debuted in 1989, has remained an innovative pop culture staple recognizable
00:33worldwide.
00:34Bring home officially licensed toys from Jax Pacific inspired by the groundbreaking show's
00:38iconic characters and moments.
00:40We are finally getting together, you and me, and we're getting a look at the brand-new
00:43Jax Pacific Simpsons lineup.
00:45Unlike companies that have done this in the past, Jax is actually approaching the licensing
00:48a little bit different as they are releasing two distinct size classes.
00:52The two-and-a-half-inch, which are the slightly smaller figures, those are going to be the
00:55ones I think they're going to be marketing more to the idea of having the dioramas.
00:59So we've already seen images online of the Simpsons family house that doubles as well
01:02as the living room.
01:03And we've already seen pictures of Homer sitting inside the living room.
01:06This is also, I'm sure, something that they're going to be, if down the road they release
01:09vehicles, this would be the size class that they're going to be doing.
01:13They don't have as much poseability as the five-inch scale figures, the other size class
01:16that they're doing.
01:17And they don't have as much of the accessories as you'll see in a second.
01:21These are pretty hard to as well find here in Canada, a dry spell it's been.
01:24I checked the local Walmarts, which as far as I know, is the best place for a Canadian
01:27collector to try to find Jack's Pacific Simpsons figures, and nowhere have they stocked these
01:33on shelves.
01:34Funny though enough, is if you go to walmart.ca and you type in Jack's Simpsons, you won't
01:38find anything other than third-party listings, which is a side tangent.
01:42I'm not going to waste your time talking about.
01:43I have a real issue with the fact that walmart.ca is allowing third-party sellers to sell stuff
01:48on their site.
01:49I think that's a conflict of interest.
01:51Funny though enough though, if you go on google.ca and you type in Jack's Simpsons, and then
01:55you go to the shopping option, wouldn't you know it, walmart.ca does have listings there,
02:00and if you click the listings, it takes you right to their site.
02:02And yet if you type it on their site, you won't find it at all.
02:06Either way though, of all the places I found these, I actually got them from a Facebook
02:10selling group.
02:11And the person I bought these actually from, truth be told, this isn't the entire first
02:14wave.
02:15I'm missing Ned Flanders and I don't have a Lisa Simpson.
02:17There is also as well, I've seen images online of a variation of Bart with one eye closed
02:22and holding a slingshot.
02:23I think he's part of this first wave as well.
02:25But I bought these at $10 a piece, which I guess isn't that much more.
02:28walmart.ca was listing them at $7.97.
02:31I've seen crazy sellers scooping these things up wherever they've been able to find them,
02:36and then charging and turning around and charging them for $12 to $15 a piece.
02:39That's ludicrous.
02:40But either way, like I said, we're going to be looking at least at three of the five figures.
02:44And I promise down the road, we're going to be looking at the Ned Flanders and Lisa and
02:46maybe I'll pick up that other Bart as well.
02:48With that all being said, let's grab the tape measure and see how tall each one of these
02:51stand.
02:52Now they're two and a half inches in size.
02:53The one that's the closest in that size is actually Homer Simpson.
02:56He is in fact two and a half inches exactly.
02:59That translates to a figure that's seven centimeters tall.
03:01Ow, two minutes and we haven't even looked at these figures yet.
03:04As for size comparisons, easily I could have brought in something from Playmates or Super
03:087.
03:09The problem with either one of those, those are six to seven inch scale figures.
03:11So right away, it's going to dwarf whatever we're getting here from Jax.
03:14I wanted to do the opposite though.
03:15I wanted to find a figure that was smaller than these and just to show you how much taller
03:19they actually are.
03:20While a perfect line popped into my head, I realized that Lego in fact did do Simpsons
03:25mini figures.
03:26I do happen to have myself a Homer.
03:28If I don't drop him, I also have myself a Bart.
03:30It would have been perfect if I had a Chief Wiggum.
03:32I don't have a Chief Wiggum.
03:34But at least from a size standpoint, obviously Jax's are taller, but they're only taller
03:38by about a head.
03:39I mean, if you're looking at a minifigure and we all know what a size of minifigure
03:42would be, it only goes to about the shoulders of Homer.
03:45Homer's, well, about a head taller.
03:47The same can be said for Bart as well.
03:49So while the two and a half inch scale figures will be perfect for the dioramas that Jax
03:52Pacific are planning to release, and I hope they're going to be planning to do more than
03:55just the Simpsons house.
03:57The thing unfortunately about this line so far is that I've noticed that they have next
04:00to nothing in the way of accessories.
04:02Even in fact, the first wave, the only characters that actually have something that come with
04:05them are the two Simpsons kids.
04:07Bart comes included with a skateboard, as you see right now.
04:09Lisa's going to come included with her saxophone, but all the rest of the characters come with
04:13include with nothing.
04:14Bart's going to, of course, as mentioned, come included with a skateboard.
04:17The thing I like at least about the skateboard is while it's all molded here in red plastic,
04:20clearly they've only just striped the green on either side of it, they at least took the
04:23time to give it functioning wheels.
04:25I use the term functioning wheels loosely.
04:27While they do roll, once you get Bart really on top of the skateboard, they have a hard
04:31time actually moving.
04:34You could take the skateboard for all intents and purposes.
04:36Bart does have, and I use this term again very loosely, he does have a gripping hand
04:40on one side that if you're lucky enough, you can't get him to hold the skateboard.
04:44I've done this a few times, but I think the times that I've done it have now warped the
04:48hand.
04:49If I just maybe can bring the thumb a little bit closer to the palm.
04:51If you get the hand close enough, sometimes, just sometimes, Virginia, there is a Santa
04:55Claus, sometimes you get him to hold the skateboard.
04:57I think I've probably warped the hand too much for that to happen now.
05:00I don't think he's ever really intended to hold the skateboard.
05:02Instead, if you look at the bottom of his feet, it looked like eyeballs.
05:05You can actually take the holes and line it up to one of the pegs.
05:08You just attach Bart onto the skateboard like that.
05:10And you know, again, he rolls.
05:14He doesn't roll the greatest, but at least it does roll.
05:16It does throw off a little bit of his balancing issues as well.
05:18So when you have Bart on top of a skateboard like that, from time to time, the figure does
05:22take a tumble.
05:23Funny though, enough that we were just talking about Simpsons minifigures, if you happen
05:27to have a couple of minifigure accessories, I grabbed a couple from the Simpsons minifigures.
05:31So we've got the inanimate carbon-based rod, and we also got ourselves an ax.
05:34I think this came included with, it was either itchy or scratchy, not that I can really remember.
05:39Bart's never going to be able to hold these.
05:41But if you take yourself Homer, for example, Homer has just the right grip.
05:45If you get yourself the carbon-based rod and fit it into his hand, wouldn't you know it,
05:49it seems to be about the same size as the Jack Spacific two and a half inch scale figures.
05:52If you also are a big fan of the Shinnon, I love the Shinnon, you can also take the
05:56ax and you can make crazy Homer.
05:58Obviously, he's not as crazy in the face, but they could have the means to hold minifigure
06:02accessories if you want to, is something I noticed.
06:05While we have Homer really in our hands, let's talk a little bit about the figure.
06:08He has more articulation, first of all, that I was already expecting.
06:11I figured, if anything, getting this guy the packaging, he would only have just a straight
06:14head swivel, swivel on the arms, and maybe if anything, swivel back and forth the legs.
06:18The only thing that's unfortunate about the figure is that, first of all, he doesn't have
06:22any waist swivels, so you can't rotate them.
06:24And when you take the one leg and you bend it, you're basically going to be bending both
06:28at the same time.
06:29So Homer basically bends, there's a joint, there's probably a peg that goes straight
06:33through that attaches the lower half of his body to the top half of his body.
06:36So when you bend one leg, you're bending both.
06:39And eventually, I'm sure, if Jack's down the road plans to release a car, like the Simpsons
06:42family car, this would be the size that they're going to be working it with.
06:45They're not going to be doing that for the five-inch scale figures.
06:48So this is, again, this is the line if you really want all the Simpsons characters from
06:52the world of Springfield, and again, not necessarily interactive scenes like they did with Playmates,
06:58but if they are going to be releasing, say, scene specifics, like Moe's Tavern, for example,
07:03or the Springfield Elementary, if they have things like that, it's going to cater to this
07:06size class.
07:07Getting a closer look, though, at Homer, I will say right away, I was really going
07:12in with low expectations.
07:14I figured, if anything, the five-inch scale was more to my liking, that the two-and-a-half
07:18scale, I was just kind of thinking, like, if you kind of close your eyes and you think
07:21two-and-a-half inches, how much detail are they really going to pack in that?
07:25I was thinking right away, like, dollar store, sometimes you see, like, little dollar store
07:28figurines, and the likeness looked nothing at all like the character.
07:31I was kind of expecting to go in and thinking that with the Simpsons, and pleasantly surprised
07:36to see that Homer, and in fact, the other two characters, look quite a lot like him.
07:41I mean, that looks...
07:42I mean, if you were to say, if I was to hold this up to the camera, you probably, without
07:46knowing the size class of these, would have expected this to be, maybe, something from
07:49Super 7.
07:50Super 7 did a great job.
07:51On the Simpsons, they dropped the ball, certainly, when it came to character, picking their characters,
07:56but I would think, like, I would even say, like, this rivals the stuff we were getting
07:59from Super 7, just on, obviously, a much smaller scale.
08:02Now, Homer, unfortunately, like I said, doesn't come included with any accessories.
08:06Could they have not just thrown a bone?
08:07Oh, right, maybe a bone would have gone to Sam's little helper.
08:09Could they not have thrown a donut, a box of donuts?
08:12I don't know.
08:13Even, like, the carbon-based rod, even just a lunch pail, something that the character
08:17could have come included with.
08:18The fact that Bart, and maybe has something to do with the fact that he's also the smaller
08:21of the three characters, maybe might be the only reason why that he got himself a skateboard,
08:26and Chief Wiggum and Homer got squat.
08:29Head for what it is is nicely painted.
08:31The pupils on the front of his eyes, not to mention the little zigzag that he has at the
08:34back of his hair.
08:35Also, too, this is sculpted in, ladies and gentlemen.
08:38This isn't just printed in place.
08:40They also, as well, obviously sculpted the top.
08:42Homer never really has the proper loops that he would have, because, I mean, as a plastic,
08:46that would be something that would be very easy to bend.
08:48But they did the next best thing.
08:49Obviously, they printed that on the top.
08:50The head, like, the coloring for the yellow looks really good on Homer.
08:54And again, like, when you're looking at the articulation on all these guys, yes, it's
08:58a straight swivel.
08:59I mean, you're going to be getting a lot more with the five-inch scale.
09:02But really, I wasn't expecting this at all.
09:04He's got hinges on his shoulders.
09:06And that's not just Homer.
09:07That's Bart and Chief Wiggum, as well.
09:09So not that Homer would be doing jumping jacks, but if you want to be excited that he got
09:12himself the last donut, you can bring those arms up quite, quite high.
09:16Obviously, you can rotate them all the way around, as well.
09:18The figure does have no swivel in the hands.
09:20And again, he's got, if I just get his arm down, he's got no swivel in the waist.
09:24And again, when it comes to his bending, he only bends to about that far.
09:27Because of his big beer belly, you can't get a full bend on Homer.
09:30But eventually, I'm sure, down the road, if they do release the Simpsons family car,
09:33Homer's going to be sitting inside that.
09:35So that's Homer.
09:36Looking good.
09:37By the way, he does also have peg holes on the undersides of his feet.
09:39Looking at Bart, which we've already kind of looked at a little bit, I'm going to just
09:42move that off to the side.
09:43Again, there's another variation of Bart that I've seen, where he's got one eye closed and
09:47he comes in clear with a slingshot.
09:49This one is just a regular one that comes in clear with a skateboard.
09:51And I'm sure that Jacks down the road could release this guy in a couple of variations.
09:54Bart at one point was mixing and matching his colors of t-shirts.
09:57So maybe they could release him down the road with a red shirt, maybe like a green shirt
10:01or a blue shirt.
10:02Head sculpt.
10:03Again, look, for Bart being two and a half inches...
10:05I mean, again, Homer was the one that is two and a half inches in size.
10:09Bart's obviously going to be a little bit shorter than that.
10:11But for what detail they managed to pack into this figure, I'm really, really surprised
10:15and really impressed.
10:17You know, again, like you've got the...
10:18Very little in the way of paint.
10:19I mean, obviously, they would have only just had to paint the pupils.
10:22The shirt's probably been painted as well.
10:24He has what I would have initially thought is a swivel in his waist, but none of these
10:27figures sadly have that.
10:28But again, like Bart does have a swivel in the head.
10:31Again, you bring the arms out, which is the best...
10:34The most surprising thing about this line so far is the fact that they have this right
10:38here.
10:39Again, nothing in the arms.
10:40I mean, when you rotate the arm, you're essentially rotating as well the shoulders.
10:43And again, when you bend the legs, you're basically bending them at the exact same time.
10:46The only thing I would have liked if maybe Bart could have had better gripping hands.
10:50So if you wanted to have him holding the skateboard...
10:52I mean, sometimes, the first couple of times I took this guy to the packaging, I was doing
10:56this, I was thinking, hey, wow, he holds his skateboard.
10:59But then every time after that, every time I keep trying to get him to hold the skateboard,
11:02yeah, his hands are just way too small.
11:05But I like the look of Bart.
11:07The only thing that kind of concerns me about this line is with, you know, Jack's Pacific
11:11essentially taking the licensing and splitting up the middle and then branching off.
11:15So again, you've got the 2.5 inch figures, and then you got the 5 inch figures.
11:19I don't feel like they're going to dedicate as much of their patience, the time, and certainly
11:23the resources and materials to produce every single character for every wave.
11:28For example, I don't think maybe they're going to probably put more dedication to stocking
11:32every character in that 5 inch scale.
11:35Maybe we're not going to be getting as much love for the 2.5 inch scale figures.
11:38That's my only worry.
11:39I mean, obviously, when you've got one company like Playmates, when Playmates was doing the
11:43Simpsons, they had one size class.
11:45So it was very easy for them to say, okay, we're going to release every single character
11:48we can ever think of.
11:49I don't know if Jack's is planning to do the exact same thing for a 2.5 inch and a 5 inch
11:54and have them kind of working together.
11:56Because that's, first of all, going to be stocking a lot of the shelf space as well.
11:59The final figure that I did pick up, and again, like $10 a piece, oh boy, is Chief Wiggum.
12:05And Chief Wiggum does have the baton on the side.
12:08Unfortunately, the baton is not removable.
12:09I kind of wish that this could have detached.
12:11I'm sure with a little bit of pressure and pulling, I could probably pull this right
12:14off and I'd never be able to get it back in place.
12:16He does also have a gun on the one side.
12:18The gun is non-removable.
12:19He's also got himself what seems to be handcuffs.
12:21But again, nothing is removable in the figure.
12:23Head sculpt looks good on this guy.
12:25The coloring for the guy as a whole, he's got the little patches there on the sides
12:29of his shoulders, the little badge there on the front.
12:31He's even got that little tie clip.
12:33Attention to detail on these figures have been quite very impressive.
12:36Really, again, going in there, I was just expecting this to be kind of the equivalent
12:39of what you would see in a dollar store.
12:41I was really, again, surprised to see how good these figures turned out for the size
12:45that they actually are.
12:46You know, again, for Wiggum, his head's going to be working the exact same way.
12:49He's just got a much larger head to contend with.
12:52But the head's going to rotate the exact same way as Homer and Bart.
12:55And again, you stick out the hinges in the shoulders.
12:57They rotate all the way around.
12:58No waist swivel, a bit of a bummer.
13:00But again, when you bend the legs, he has the hardest time to bend because he's got
13:03the biggest belly to deal with.
13:05But again, he does have a little bit of bend there as well.
13:08Wish he could have come included with accessories.
13:09But you know, at the end of the day, again, really nice looking figures.
13:13Still want to get my hands on Ned Flanders and Lisa.
13:15I think those were two listed on walmart.ca.
13:18And again, the asking price for the 2.5 inch figures are $7, at least here in Canada.
13:22$7.97.
13:23A little on the higher side, especially for the size class.
13:26I really kind of wish that these characters could have been like the $4.99, about $5 even
13:32price for what they could have been for the sizes.
13:34But obviously, you know, with inflation and everything going around right now, the 5 inch
13:38figures are obviously going to be a little bit bigger, obviously.
13:40And they're going to be more expensive in price.
13:42But unlike these ones, they're at least going to come included with accessories.
13:46Depending on, of course, what choice you have when it comes to collecting Simpsons figures.
13:50Now we have two choices.
13:52Unlike before where we would have had one size class from the two figure companies that
13:56I can think of at least, Playmates and Super 7, Jax at least now approaches Simpsons with
14:01two sizes.
14:01So if you like the smaller size, where hopefully we can get much more of the Simpsons characters
14:05and civilians of Springfield.
14:07If we get like little cars, we get the dioramas and stuff like that.
14:10That's all going to cater to this size, I would imagine.
14:12We're probably not going to be getting as much though with the 5 inch scale figures.
14:16But the trade-off though is that the 5 inch are going to have a lot more posability and
14:19a lot more accessories.
14:21Generally, when you're dealing with figures under 3 inches, poor paint applications and
14:25inferior sculpts go with the territory.
14:27And yet though, neither one of those boxes get checked with the new Jax specific 2.5
14:31inch Simpsons figures.
14:33I mean, with at least the three that I picked up, I still got to pick up Ned Flanders, Lisa,
14:36and that random Bart that has, for reasons unknown, one winking eye.
14:41When eventually I do pick up those, I mean, I think the details on these are just as good
14:45as what we got first of all with Playmates.
14:47I think the head sculpts on these rival the stuff that we got from Playmates and might
14:51even be competitive with what we got from Super 7.
14:53I know it's a pretty bold statement to make for really three figures in on what would
14:57only be the first wave.
14:59But honestly though, I mean, Super 7, one thing that can be said for them is that they
15:04released premium collectibles.
15:05And obviously with that goes premium collectible prices.
15:08$88 to $100 without a word of lie here in Canada.
15:11They included as well all the episode specific accessories you could think of.
15:15But at the end of it, they were still $80 to $100.
15:19If what Jax Pacific is going to be doing with their five inch scale is anything to what
15:22they've done with half that scale, I think the Simpsons line is going to be in good hands.
15:27Now again, like the big problem with these is obviously they're going to be smaller first
15:30of all in size and they don't have anywhere near the levels of art of accessories or articulation
15:35for that matter.
15:36I mean, they're a little bit more limited in the lower half of their bodies.
15:39I mean, obviously when you're bending one leg, you're going to be bending both.
15:42But obviously if you're also going to be getting down the road, and I'm hoping that Jax is
15:45planning to do like the Simpsons family car for example, bending both the legs at the
15:49same time is not a deal breaker at all.
15:51The fact that they have hinges in their shoulders, first of all, is one of the things I wasn't
15:55expecting at all.
15:57And yes, even though Bart is the only one that really has an accessory, at least for
16:00right now until eventually I get my hands on Lisa, you know, I kind of wish that yes,
16:04the 2.5 inch figures could have come included with other things other than themselves.
16:08But from a head sculpt and the rest of the way that the bodies were constructed, I'm
16:12very, very pleasantly surprised.
16:15I'm pleased with what we've gotten from Jax so far.
16:18The only thing I would certainly say though is distribution is an issue, at least for
16:22right now.
16:23Canadian collectors, and I can only really speak for the Canadian collector behind the
16:26camera, I had a hard time even finding these in stores.
16:30As right now at the time of shooting this video, I have checked three Walmart stores
16:33and they've had next to nothing.
16:34They have had nothing.
16:36So either I can order these online through places like eBay and pay through the nose
16:40to get my hands on them.
16:41Some sites have shown listings of them, like Entertainment Earth has listings of the first
16:45wave, but they seem to be doing some strange thing where you have to buy a case, a case
16:49of 12 of them.
16:50Well, I don't really need a case of 12.
16:52I only really need as the first, the first set of five, the case I think was going for
16:57around $55, which again is not a bad price at all.
17:00But I hope the availability of these, this is the only thing that's going to hold back
17:04this line, the availability of how easy it is for collectors to get their hands on them
17:08and how loyal they're going to be to both size classes.
17:11If you're going to be releasing, let's say 25 different Simpsons characters of the five
17:16inch variety, I hope they're also going to be doing the exact same for the smaller scale
17:19too.
17:20Because you would hate to think that collectors that are going in with slightly smaller display
17:24spaces to work with, you'd hate to think they're going to be left in the dark where
17:27after a while, Jax isn't going to focus as much of their effort on a, on a half scale
17:31and they're going to be putting all of their efforts into the five inch variety.
17:34I hope that we're going to be getting just as many characters in both size classes.
