Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Early strikes from Alexander Isak and Joelinton earned a very deserved three points for Eddie Howe's side. That win was just their second ever win at the Theatre of Dreams in the Premier League.

00:00So Newcastle United record just their second ever Premier League victory here at Old Trafford
00:05with a 2-0 win over Manchester United and a performance that was simply brilliant for
00:09certainly 30 minutes of the game but pretty much the whole first half. Newcastle United
00:12were absolutely fantastic, they battered Manchester United and that doesn't happen often. Of course
00:17they won here in the Carrawell Cup 3-0 last year but this was a real dominant performance
00:20from Newcastle. They were 2-0 man, they were brilliant in that first 30 minutes. You need
00:24to think coming to Old Trafford they were the favourites, they were an in-form team,
00:27even the booties had them favourites. They started the day 7 points above Manchester
00:31United on the table and you think can they translate all that pre-match hype into a win
00:35and they did it with two early goals from Alexander Isak and Joel Linton. But yeah as
00:40I said you've got to look at that first 30 minutes, Gary Neville on commentary on Sky
00:43Sports described it as blistering and it really was and Newcastle were absolutely fantastic.
00:47They didn't give Manchester United a second of time on the ball and then with the ball
00:51at their feet they were just passing it round. Barely giving Manchester United any ball time
00:57and they were absolutely brilliant. Lots of questions over Roman Amiram's selection
01:02at the beginning, picking Christian Eriksen and Kassim Miro as a 2-man midfield. Newcastle's
01:07midfield obviously much improved recently with Sandro Tonali, Joel Linton and Bruno
01:10Guimaraes in there. You can talk about all this and what Amiram maybe should have done
01:16in the pre-match selection but Newcastle had to do it on the pitch and they delivered it
01:19on the pitch. Again they scored really early on, Isak and Ipswich scored in the first minute
01:23and it was a brilliant ball from Bruno to set up the goal. Lewis Hall's crossing and
01:34Alexandre Isak had the same task of heading it home but it was very much like his goal
01:37against Leicester. Heading it in from probably two or three yards but he was the right man
01:41on the spot, that's what you need. A fantastic start, a little bit of a VAR check that had
01:46some people worried, especially in that away end just over that side there. Once that was
01:53confirmed Newcastle never really looked back. Scored a second goal from Joel Linton, a pretty
01:58much carbon copy of that first one. The ball this time from Anthony Gordon in and Joel
02:02Linton got above Sandro Martinez, the height difference, power difference there really
02:05made the difference. It came off the shoulder, a little bit of a question of whether it came
02:10off the arm or not, it definitely came off the shoulder and Newcastle won and that was
02:12it, that was all they needed to do. They could have made it 3 or 4, we've seen in the last
02:17couple of weeks they've scored 4 goals twice, they've scored 3 goals twice and each and
02:22every game probably by Brentford they probably could have had 6 or 7 and again they could
02:25have had loads more. I think Sandro Tonali hit the post at a real crucial time, Lewis
02:29Hall had a good shot save and there were carbon opens up. So for the first 30 odd minutes
02:35you got absolutely on top and you didn't really see a route back into the game for Manchester
02:37United but then Amiroum made the sub, Joshua Xherkesy was taken off, he was replaced by
02:45Kobi Minoo and midfield sort of shifted, Christian Harris went out left and Manchester United
02:49really got a foothold back in the game then. They didn't look too threatening, their own
02:53chances in the first half really came from Newcastle, one of Newcastle's mistakes. First
02:57Hyland was sent through a chip wide and then Fabian Scheher right at the end of the first
03:01half gave the ball away to Mane in the field, he fed Kasimirou and his shot was wide and
03:06that was it for Manchester United first half but they did manage to get a foothold back
03:08in the game. Xherkesy's sub was a really interesting reaction, I don't think I've ever seen a
03:12stadium boo a player off like that and then first cheer the decision to take him off and
03:17then boo the player off like that. It was really not good luck from Manchester United
03:20fans and as much as there was a little bit of clapping in the corner, you can't really
03:23excuse that and there'll be a big inquest to that because that was not what you want
03:26to see from the vast majority of the 70 odd thousand people in this stadium but back to
03:31Newcastle United, they had to come out of the second half and not let Manchester United
03:37get back into the game, certainly not let the crowd enter because I said for that five
03:40minutes Manchester United were really good, I say really good, they were better than Newcastle
03:44United for five minutes after that substitute but Newcastle quieted it down before half
03:47time, came out of the second half and you think can Newcastle United keep the crowd
03:50quiet and they didn't really manage it unfortunately, I think Manchester United got on top, the
03:54crowd certainly got on top but Djibrilovic didn't have a single save to make, it was
03:58a fourth clean sheet in a row for him in the Premier League, he literally I don't think
04:02had a save to make and Manchester United couldn't break down the defence, Newcastle were a really
04:06good resolute defending, a little bit less attack and threat and I think whether that
04:10was them just trying to negotiate and control the game or whether you know to try and sort
04:17of yeah just see how we win because as I said wins don't come often here, wins come at a
04:22premium so to be able to do that was good and yeah you know you can't really complain
04:25to no winner Manchester United who can't complain on that but yeah Newcastle United will be
04:28happy with that, their second half performance maybe not so much, I think they lacked a little
04:32bit up front, Alexander Isak looked tired, a couple of others looked tired and you can't
04:35really blame them, they've had lots of games over a busy festive period, obviously played
04:38Aston Villa just four days ago but they've now got five days to rest before they play
04:42Spurs in another massive game, I think go away with a win there, you know they're looking
04:45at a very good festive and new year period and then all eyes towards that Arsenal game,
04:50the only negative of tonight was Fabian Schaer picked up a book and he will now miss the
04:56game against Tottenham on Saturday and then of course he's suspended for the Carabao Cup
04:59first leg against Arsenal as is Bruno for that game so he's going to miss the next two
05:02games so that's one disappointment but other than that you know Newcastle United were really
05:05happy with their performance today, as I said wins at Old Trafford don't come often
05:08for Newcastle United, they've come three times, twice sorry for Eddie Howe, he's picked up
05:12two wins a draw and only been beaten once here as Newcastle United manager so yeah brilliant
05:17performance from Newcastle, brilliant sort of form going into the new, to take in the
05:22new year and one that they'll be really happy with and yeah it was absolutely brilliant,
05:26the way in was fantastic, you've got to give a shout out to them, the fans didn't stop
05:29singing for 90 minutes as you'd expect in a 1-0 at Old Trafford three minutes in but
05:33we've been here before, Newcastle United have took the lead here and teams have crumbled
05:36but they didn't crumble at all, they were absolutely fantastic in here, very deserved
05:39win for Newcastle United, one that yeah will please a lot of people and Eddie Howe I'm
05:42sure will be pleased with that so Newcastle United just their second win in the Premier
05:45League at Old Trafford.
