Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's emphatic 5-1 win over Sheffield United at St James' Park. A brace from Alexander Isak, a header from Bruno Guimaraes, an own goal and a strike by Callum Wilson earned the Magpies all three points to relegate the Blades.

00:00So, Newcastle United get back to winning ways with a 5-1 win over Sheffield United's heresy
00:05in James's Park. It was probably the best way they could have bounced back from that
00:09to defeat Crusade Palace the other night. It was a really interesting game. It's hard
00:14to say that a game that finishes 5-1 is a game of two halves but it really, really was.
00:18Sheffield United started well. They got the first goal through Ahmed Hodzic. Newcastle
00:23just didn't deal with the corner. He was free at the back post, headed home. It was a really
00:27sloppy start for Newcastle. They didn't get out of the first 20-25 minutes. Half an hour
00:32I think. Newcastle were certainly second best. Sheffield United probably should have scored
00:37two or three in that first half. Martin De Bravica made a good save. A couple of last
00:41ditch blocks. Some efforts had gone wide that really should have been hit on target by Sheffield
00:47United. Newcastle went into halftime level. Alexander Isak scored for the seventh consecutive
00:53time in St James' Park. It was a brilliant ball from Jacob Murphy down the right. Isak
00:57found a little bit of space in the channel. As he does, he went one-on-one with the keeper
01:00and he never, ever had a doubt that he'd score. He did. He put it home. He ran immediately
01:04and got the ball back. You could sense at that point that Newcastle really should try
01:07and put the hammer down. They've been really good under Eddie Howe since his time in Manchester
01:12when they get one to get another. But that didn't happen. Sheffield United, as I said,
01:16probably had a couple of chances after that before the break and really should have gone
01:19in with two goals or three goals even. To go in at 1-1 at halftime was very fortunate
01:25for Newcastle. But then in the second half, they did what they do best. They absolutely
01:28blitzed them in a half an hour period. Newcastle not at their best really but for half an hour
01:36they showed why they are at the top end of the Premier League sitting in seventh as we
01:41speak after the end of the game and why Sheffield United have been relegated with 16 points.
01:46They really did crash out the Premier League when they went by Sheffield United, especially
01:48in that second half, which would be disappointing for them because they started the game really
01:52well. But yes, you can't really take too much away from Newcastle because they did exactly
01:55what they needed to do when they got the win. Alexander Ryzak, he got his second from
02:01the penalty spot. That put Newcastle 3-1. You never really had a doubt he would miss
02:07that. So consistent from the penalty spot. Yes, that was brilliant. But just before that,
02:13I was just skipping ahead of myself there, but yes, just before that Bruno put Newcastle
02:192-1, put it in my head. After the display before the game with the Brazil flag,
02:24the message to Bruno, Joel Hinton, you sort of felt like it would happen. It was a great free
02:29kick from Anthony Gordon, round the back post, and there's Bruno, Gimaraes, unmarked at the
02:34back stick to dive and head home. It's a goal we've seen before. So at Brentford last year,
02:38we saw it at Nottingham Forest, I believe, where Bruno just goes in round the back,
02:42gets a diving header and gets a shot away. And yes, it was 2-1 and almost instantly the 3-1
02:47again, that was by Alexander Ryzak. And then as soon as it went 3-1 with Ryzak's second,
02:51you did feel that Newcastle would just press on. They would really make the quality and
02:54advantage tell. And they did. The fourth goal was a bit scrappy. It was weird. It didn't really get
02:58celebrated. I think no one really knew what happened. It was an Anthony Gordon corner
03:02that I think Bruno knocked it on. I haven't really seen the replays again.
03:06I doubt that Bruno knocked it on. It just seemed to backheel off, or Ben Osborne,
03:09sorry, backheeled it past his own keeper. It was a really clam at his own goal and one that
03:13when you're at the bottom of the league, like Sheffield United, that's the type of goal you
03:16concede. And I think the majority of fans in here, you just realise that's the thing that
03:21goes against you in the bottom of the league. And the travelling support of Sheffield United
03:25fans probably realise at that point, certainly realise at that point, that their Premier League
03:30dream is over. We got some native fives not long after that as well. Callum Wilson getting on the
03:35score and he and Harvey Barnes came on just after that fourth goal. And it would have been really
03:39bad for the Sheffield United defence who have battled all day against Isaac Gordon and Murphy
03:45to then see Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes come on. You do, you worry for, you would feel for
03:50them Sheffield United defenders having to deal with that. But yeah, Callum Wilson made no mistake.
03:54Harvey Barnes skipped past a couple of players, fed in Anthony, fed in Callum Wilson, sorry.
03:59He was smashed at home. And yeah, it was good to see him get back on the scoreboard after a long
04:02time out. And yeah, Newcastle 5-1 winners. That was, it was, that was it. I think it was a game
04:09of a lot of chances. You know, it was, it was quite an interesting 70 minutes or so. And then
04:12when they went 5-1, Newcastle took the foot off the gas really, didn't really test Vodner too much.
04:19And yeah, we just read out the game and Newcastle actually, sorry, they give away a penalty
04:22in the dying stages. Alex Murphy was penalised, but referee Tony Harrington was set on the monitor.
04:28An overturned decision. Alex Murphy definitely got a big touch of the ball. And then there was a bit
04:31debate whether it was actually outside the box or inside the box. But you know, Newcastle got
04:35away with that. And rightly, it was, it wasn't a penalty, but even if that had been given,
04:38Sheffield United converted 5-2 at that point, it wouldn't have made any difference. But yeah,
04:41it was a very solid win for Newcastle, United in 1. They'll be really happy with getting, especially
04:46after that disappointing defeat against Palace. And yeah, they've now got four games left,
04:50three away from home, so that they're going to have to improve their way record. That's going to
04:53be a big thing for them. Can they do that? But they'll, you know, they'll be in the dressing room
04:57now and they'll know that Man U have drawn against Burnley. So that's a major thing for them.
05:01You know, it's a big boost. Newcastle sit one point behind Man U. So, you know, but they know
05:07that if all they have to do is win all their games and then they'll finish sixth. And no matter what
05:10happens in the FA Cup final, they're guaranteed European football next year. But yeah, it was,
05:14as I said, a good solid return for Newcastle in 1. They'll be happy with 5-1. It's a very,
05:19it's a scoreline that we've seen a lot under Eddie Howe. And yeah, lots of improvement in the first
05:24half, but they did that in the second half. And yeah, it was a solid day for Newcastle United.
05:29They've gotten back into the European place. They're in the driving seat now. West Ham,
05:33drew with Liverpool. That's probably, you know, that knocks, not knocks them out, but certainly
05:38Newcastle are definitely in the driving seat over them. Chelsea have got a couple of big games
05:41against Aston Villa and Tottenham coming up. So yeah, Newcastle 95, Sheffield 91. They're in the,
05:46right in the driving seat for the European spaces. And overall, good day out at St James' Park.
