Joe Buck reacts to Newcastle United's crazy 4-3 win over West Ham at St James' Park. A brace apiece from Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes grabbed a dramatic win for Eddie Howe's side who found themselves 3-1 down midway trough the second half.

00:00 Well, where to begin with that? Newcastle United 4, West Ham United 3. Yeah, it was a breathtaking, breathtaking day.
00:11 St James' Park, chaotic, breathtaking, everything. All them kind of words, it was really, it was really, it was really,
00:16 you see all my shoulder, Eddie Howe's just speaking to the TV behind me there and he will be, I've no idea how he'll react,
00:22 I can't even be honest, I've got no idea how I'm going to believe it but, yeah, it started off brilliantly for Newcastle.
00:27 Five minutes in, Alexander's, I suppose a penalty, it's a definite penalty, Gordon did well to react to a loose ball,
00:34 got the foul from Koufalo and then Newcastle went 1-0 up and you hoped that would settle the nerves of the crowd
00:39 that came into the game, it's a really big game, you know, for, in quest for European football, I think Newcastle had lost today,
00:44 they'd gone seven points behind West Ham and it really would have put a, you know, their European hopes would have really been
00:51 looking, you know, looking bad so to get that early goal really settled the fan base, really settled the team,
00:57 or you'd like to think it settled the team, but that's when the chaos started. About five minutes after that,
01:04 Jamala Sells went down, what looked like a dead leg, I'm sure Eddie Howe will talk about it after the game,
01:08 but it looked like a dead leg, he tried to continue, he wasn't able to continue, so Emile Craft came on his place,
01:15 so that meant Craft went a right back, Livermanto went a left back and then Burnham Chair in the centre half,
01:20 so the whole back four essentially was switched at that point and then minutes after Craft came on,
01:25 West Ham were level, both through the middle, found Antonio and Antonio to be there, finished really well.
01:32 Yeah, so you think at that point Newcastle hadn't really adapted to that change with a back four switch
01:40 and you think, you know, is this going to be another one of them games where they took an early lead,
01:45 against Forest for example, and it was a game against Luton there, if they're getting early goals,
01:50 they're not going to be able to hold on. Now to be fair, they did manage to react, the next half an hour or so,
01:55 this all happened in the first 15 minutes, but the next half an hour or so it was relatively even,
01:58 I think Newcastle were caught on the break a couple of times, West Ham didn't look dangerous,
02:02 but Newcastle looked dangerous themselves to be fair, and I think it was an even first half.
02:05 If they'd gone in at 1-1, you'd have had no complaints, but of course they didn't, West Ham scored just before the break
02:10 when they got a free kick, if Ivan Share went down injured, the referee allowed West Ham to take a quick free kick
02:16 and Mohamed Kudus scored. It was controversial, you know, referee Rob Jones was getting boo's from all sides,
02:22 he's saving really West Ham fans, weren't happy with the decision to award a penalty,
02:26 and his decision not to give them a foul just moments before their goal, with a shoulder from Dan Byrne,
02:31 which wasn't a foul, but you know, you're a West Ham fan, you're going to feel the grief not getting that.
02:35 So yeah, the half-time whistle came, round the boo's, not for the players, but for the referee,
02:41 but then minutes after half-time, Jarrod Bowen gets his goal, and West Ham were 3-1 up.
02:46 It was a really weird goal, Newcastle had a corner, and you know, quite a dangerous corner,
02:50 and then West Ham clear it, and all of a sudden, they've got three men in the centre,
02:53 and it's just Tino Lovren-Mendoza defending, the ball gets played to Jarrod Bowen,
02:56 Jarrod Bowen tucks it home as you'd expect, a quality player, and Newcastle are 3-1 down.
03:00 Moments after half-time, and really, staring down the barrel of another defeat,
03:04 and you do think at that point, where's this going to go? West Ham are showing their qualities.
03:08 Newcastle hadn't reacted from that early change, really, so you do think how they're going to react.
03:14 They did try and react, so then Eddie Howard's made a triple substitution, not long after that,
03:19 Tino Lovren-Mendoza was forced off injured, he was replaced by Lewis Hall,
03:22 Miguel Almiron came on, and so did Ellie Anderson, they replaced Emil Kraft and Joe Willock.
03:29 Kraft substituted on the first half, so he was substituted off after being substituted on,
03:34 so that was an interesting call, but they themselves really made the difference.
03:38 Lewis Hall was fantastic, he was brilliant, I think you could see he felt, looking on,
03:43 he looked like he had a point to prove, and he was brilliant all game.
03:46 Newcastle fans were screaming out for him to play, so to see him on the field,
03:49 and see James Parker press him was really good.
03:51 And yeah, Newcastle, they really pressed, but they couldn't really get that killer instinct.
03:56 Then Miguel Almiron, minutes later, he was forced off with injury,
04:00 he was replaced by Harvey Barnes, five men shared gone down injured,
04:03 so then you think at this point, there's three subs, they've used all five subs,
04:06 about a half an hour ago, so 25 minutes with half an hour of in-field stoppage time.
04:11 And then you think, what's this day going to be like, is it going to be another disappointing defeat?
04:16 Are we going to be subbed doing this thing, going it's another disappointment for Newcastle?
04:20 But no, to be fair, they rallied, they rallied well, and yeah, three unbelievable goals,
04:25 and so, as I say, 20-odd minutes in the second half, it was a simple sensation.
04:29 So first, as I mentioned, he was always brilliant,
04:32 he really played a part, both offensively and defensively.
04:36 And yeah, it was a mad, mad finish to the game.
04:40 Newcastle got one back, 32 from a penalty, 3-2, sorry, from a penalty for Alexander Isaac.
04:45 Again, a foul on Gordon, it was definitely a penalty,
04:47 and the referee initially didn't give it, went over the monitor,
04:50 and Isaac converted just as cool as he did the first one, so you think 3-2, game on again.
04:54 And then, about five, I can't remember how many times it was there,
04:58 but Isaac picked up the ball in midfield, he dropped off quite well,
05:01 he didn't leave the line necessarily as a traditional striker, but dropped just quite deep.
05:05 And he found a fantastic goal to dissect the west-hand defence,
05:09 it was a straight ball through the middle, found Harvey Barnes,
05:12 Harvey Barnes pushed it under Fabianski, he came off Fabianski,
05:17 I can't go into it any, but yeah, Barnes pushed it under Fabianski,
05:20 and there it was 3-3, and you really sensed something could happen,
05:23 but we've seen it in the Newcastle many times,
05:25 a few weeks ago they got back in and couldn't get a winning goal,
05:28 you think, will they be able to get a winning goal this time,
05:30 as I said, west-hand are still high-quality players,
05:32 there's always that worry about them breaking, maybe, or scoring,
05:36 but then Harvey Barnes is the winner.
05:38 Picks the ball up on the left-cutting side, and sounds like a superb effort in the back corner,
05:42 it was absolutely brilliant, Barnes was really showing in the limited time he had this year,
05:46 what a great finisher he is, and his two goals, both are fantastic for completely different reasons,
05:52 the composure in the first one, the finish in the second one,
05:55 and then Newcastle picked 1-4-3 ahead, that was absolutely crazy,
05:59 as in James Park, you know, they've seen some good games recently,
06:03 but that was among the very best, and Newcastle were able to hold on,
06:07 eight minutes of added time was signalled, the referee played ten,
06:10 he found ten from somewhere, and it was a chorus of whistles and boos,
06:13 and then just that one final twist, they had Vinnie Gordon receive the second yellow card
06:18 for kicking the ball away, so he's going to miss a game against Everton in midweek,
06:22 so that's going to be another factor in the outcome,
06:25 but with Harvey Barnes and four newts in the day, it was brilliant,
06:28 so yeah, it was a chaotic game, it's a chaotic reaction, because I don't know what else to say about it,
06:33 but chaos all around, I think, and he has plenty of things to think about for Everton,
06:38 namely who he plays the left-back, because Lewis Hall was brilliant in the half an hour I saw he had on his pitch,
06:42 he's certainly a showman to start, but he's certainly going to give Howard plenty of pressure,
06:47 so he's going to have plenty of questions to think about,
06:49 again, Barnes with Gordon's suspension, he seems like the clear favourite coming from that point,
06:54 and then you've got what happens to Almiron, Livermendo, La Cels, are they fit enough to play,
06:58 who comes in for them, you know, and of course La Cels, Livermendo started,
07:04 you think Trippier might be in there, he was here today but not in the squad,
07:08 Trippier's probably the natural baseman for Livermendo, La Cels, what do they do,
07:11 do they put Sharon Byrne again, do they, you know, Camille Crafty got moved off to the equipment team,
07:16 Paul Dumas, there's plenty of options to consider,
07:19 and yeah, it's a chaotic day, chaotic match of Vietnam shirt,
07:23 and one that ultimately leaves the Agatha Knight one point behind West Ham in the race for European football,
07:28 with the game at hand, so at the end of the day, three points, job done for New Zealand,
07:31 I think that's the most simple explanation of an absolutely crazy day at St James' Park,
07:36 yeah, just crazy all around, but the end result is the Agatha Knight 4, West Ham 3.
