00:00So Newcastle United record back-to-back home league wins to begin the season with a 2-1
00:06win here over Tottenham Hotspur in a really hard fourth game for Eddie Howe's side.
00:11Arjan Postakoglu's side dominated the game, really dominated the ball, I think Eddie Howe's
00:16or Newcastle only had about 33% possession so they really didn't have much of the ball.
00:20Not really too much of a shock against Postakoglu, you know, very ball-happy there, his team
00:25Tottenham were very good, just couldn't get that goal but enough about Tottenham, Newcastle
00:31had won the game, to be fair, you know, over 90 minutes, it was a close game, maybe Tottenham
00:36just shaded but Newcastle got two goals and that was the big thing.
00:39As we've seen in the last couple of games, Newcastle started well, the first 15 minutes
00:44they were really good, unlucky not to get an early goal there but there was a bit, just
00:50before the 20th minute, one of the referee's assistants had to get replaced so he went
00:54for the fourth official, the fourth official came in and that was about a five-minute delay
00:57and that really sort of switched the balance of the game and then Tottenham started dominating
01:01the ball, dominating the game, Newcastle dealt with it, they didn't really look too threatening
01:07in that first half, I think a couple of long shots which Pope dealt with quite comfortably
01:11in a few blocks but other than that, Newcastle weren't really put under too much, well they
01:16were put under pressure but they didn't really look like conceding and then they got the
01:19goal, it was brilliant work to be fair from Dan Byrne, the ball goes out, he takes a quick
01:23throw to Lloyd Kelly, Lloyd Kelly pulls the ball back into the box and there's Harvey
01:27Barnes who just opens his body and guides a shot into the far corner, it's a brilliant
01:31finish from Harvey Barnes and that's exactly what he brings to Newcastle when he does play,
01:35the question marks over whether he shows his best when he started, he's been a really good
01:38substitute at times, made some good appearances from the bench but that was a brilliant finish
01:43from him and just shows that that's a quality he can bring when he's in the area and that
01:47was, yeah Newcastle head into the break, 1-0 up and probably good value for that,
01:53I think maybe just, maybe a bit hard for Newcastle but certainly didn't deserve to be behind
01:57or anything and yeah, and then come out for the second half and, sorry, Tottenham make
02:03a change, this time Brendan Johnson comes up for Papsar, Maddison drops back to Busuma
02:09and that really changed the game for Tottenham, Johnson had a really good effort outright
02:13and he eventually gets the goal, although, to be fair, for about 2 or 3 minutes before
02:18the goal actually went in, Tottenham were dominating in multiple corners, Pope had to
02:23make some good saves but yeah, the goal eventually comes, I would say it is a Dan Byrne-owned
02:27goal, Nick Pope makes the save, goes straight at Johnson who has a shot, Pope then reacts
02:32to that shot but Dan Byrne, under not real pressure, kicks the ball into the net, I don't
02:36know whether he's probably better off leaving that but obviously in the heat of the moment
02:39you can't really, only he can make that judgement and yeah, Newcastle at that point were another
02:43caution, Spurs were playing really well, they were dominating the ball, they couldn't
02:46get out of the half to be honest for most of the early part of the second half certainly
02:52but they stayed in the game, they did really well, they stayed in the game, Pope made some
02:56brilliant saves, one particular from Maddison, a killer effort, yeah, that was one that,
03:03if that had gone in that would have been a completely different game but they stayed
03:06in the game, they did what they needed to do to give themselves a chance to win and
03:08eventually they did give themselves the chance to win and they did get the winning goal,
03:12Joe Linton win the ball in midfield, almost got tackled, we saw against Bournemouth last
03:16weekend, he got tackled, that set up for Bournemouth but this time he held on to the ball,
03:20plays a lovely through ball to Jacob Murphy, Jacob Murphy runs one-on-one with the goalkeeper,
03:25we think is he going to shoot, he squares at Alexander Isaki, taps home for the easiest
03:28goal he'll ever score, now moments before that, oh sorry, at the beginning of the first
03:31half Isak had a similar opportunity, he couldn't get the ball across to Barnes who was at the
03:34back post but this time Murphy does get it across to Isak and yeah, Newcastle, you know,
03:39took a lead, definitely against the run of play, it would be a goal that, you know,
03:43Poster Cognery would be disappointed by, we all know his high line and fame for his high
03:47line but that was one where you think it is a little bit avoidable if he doesn't make his
03:50team play a high line but that's the risk and reward of his football and then Newcastle held
03:54on, eventually, it was a lot of, five minutes out of time, lots of, as always, lots of,
04:00you know, worries of St James', Sam Dutton-Arley came on to be fair for his St James' Park
04:05return, he got a big reception, to be honest I think his introduction, although he didn't play
04:08a direct part in the goal or too much sort of, there were no key moments where he stopped,
04:13like his introduction really lifted the crowd, it had gone flat a little bit just because Tottenham
04:17were playing so well, Tottenham did well to nullify the crowd but unfortunately for them
04:20it was Canarly's return, he got the crowd up and then they eventually got it and yeah,
04:24after a disappointing summer transfer window, Newcastle United reacted with a win and had
04:28an international break, seven points from three games and that would be a big benefit to them
04:35and yeah, that's it really, you know, they can only do what they can do on the pitch and they've
04:39thrown the caravan up, they've got seven points and now we're two weeks before the game against
04:42Wolves, I can see on my shoulder Yasser Al-Omae and he was here that day and he would have been
04:46happy with what he saw from his team on the pitch but obviously questions will be asked about their
04:51transfer and I'm sure Eddie Harb right now is probably getting grilled about that and about
04:54their failure to add any senior outfield players but as mentioned, return to football matters,
04:58Newcastle United have got the win, that's all that mattered and with Wolves and Solon to come,
05:02you know, it's hoped that we can continue this really good start and the next time they're here
05:06is in just about a month's time, four weeks' time, sorry, against Nile against Manchester City
05:11so that's a huge game against Manchester City and that'll be a real test, obviously it always is
05:15against Man City but we'll be able to see where Newcastle United are and how they're shaped up
05:18against them, they're a big European rival but for today, they've beaten one of them in Tottenham
05:21Hotspur 2-1, not a convincing performance by any means but a win's a win and yeah,
05:26Newcastle United can head into the international break, seven points from three games and I'm
05:29very happy about that.
