00:00So Newcastle continue their brilliant form with a 3-0 win over Leicester here at the
00:05King Power Stadium and to be honest it was one of the easier games they'll have all season,
00:09one of the easiest games they've had in a long time to be honest. Leicester came into
00:12it in horrendous form, 14 defeats in 15 games, hadn't scored in the last seven here at home,
00:18staring down the barrel of an English Football League record. Spoilers, that's exactly what
00:23happened. One, Newcastle came in full of confidence that they could get a win, they had some good
00:28results on their side this weekend with a couple of teams around them sitting up in
00:32the Premier League and they delivered on what they needed to do here. And they were ahead
00:36after two minutes, Jacob Murphy got in behind the defence, he was unmarked at the back post,
00:42it was so easy, Harvey Barnes into Livermental, Livermental was a lovely ball with his left
00:46foot to be fair, found the back stick, Jacob Murphy was there to tap home. It was a really
00:50simple goal and one that wouldn't have been the best to start from Ruud van Nistelrooy
00:53who would have won it better from his side and he had said two minutes, only Newcastle
00:56are ahead and you're thinking is it going to be a long day for the hosts and it was
00:59a long day. They hadn't scored in seven games of course yet, ended a 3-0 loss so they didn't
01:03score again here. Other than a couple of chances, Jamie Vardy to fair test had pulled really
01:07early on within the first 10-15 seconds but other than that, Newcastle were largely untested.
01:12The second goal came after that and this is the talking point of the game, it was absolutely
01:16brilliant. I think when you watch back, obviously you want Fabian Scherr's effort to go in,
01:22of course you do because nothing better than a goal from Wim Hof but it was absolutely brilliant.
01:25Fabian Scherr picks up the ball in his own half, spots a keeper off the line and there's
01:29not many players in world football that can do what Fabian Scherr did there, never mind
01:33defenders and he picks up the ball, he has a shot from inside his own half, it rattles
01:37off the bar, Hermansen's beaten, he stumbles a little bit, he's beaten but the bar wasn't
01:41beaten and Diego Murphy's there to eventually tap home. He slightly missed touch, he gave
01:46Hermansen a little bit of an effort to get in but no, he finished well and to be fair
01:51to Murphy, he was brilliant at reacting. There were three Leicester defenders all around
01:54him, just ball watching and Murphy was in there thinking, is there going to be a rebound,
02:00is Hermansen going to save it and Murphy was there to tap home. So it was a brilliant reaction
02:02from Murphy but it was all about what Fabian Scherr did, it was fantastic from him. As
02:06said, Scherr's done some amazing things, Eddie Howe talked about it after his contract, he's
02:10scored some amazing goals, PSG, Liverpool, Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Wolves, so all
02:17these goals come to mind and that was, as much as it wasn't his goal, it probably wasn't
02:21his assist either, it was absolutely fantastic from Scherr and he deserves all the credit.
02:24He's going to get for that, it's just another fantastic highlight reel for him, or highlight
02:29to add to his reel, it was absolutely brilliant for him. And then you got to go in then, half-time
02:323-0 up, this time it wasn't Murphy, it was Harvey Barnes against his old team. Joe Linton
02:38has a shot, it's parried by Hermansen and Barnes is literally in the right place, right
02:41time in the 6-yard box to poke home. He didn't celebrate against his former club. The Leicester
02:46fans, to be fair, when Barnes' name was read over the speaker before the game, gave him
02:50a cheer, when he came to take a corner early on in front of them, they all cheered and
02:53to be fair, it was really strange, when they did score, there was some cheers for the Leicester
02:57crowd. I think there was a lot of disillusionment in the fan base, in the team, the manager,
03:02there was lots of boos at half-time, lots of reactions when the players lost the ball.
03:07We've all been there as Newcastle journalists, as players, as fans, we've seen when the club
03:12just isn't going right, when you're in the relegation zone, this can happen, everything
03:15starts piling on, things keep going wrong and that was very present at King Power Stadium.
03:19But Newcastle didn't let that affect their performance, didn't let Leicester get a sniff
03:22back into the game, really. Leicester were better in the second half, of course, Newcastle
03:25took their foot off the gas, but they didn't really need to, they could have gone fourth
03:29with a 7-0 win here and to be honest, if they'd tried full throttle, they might have got that,
03:33but I think it was the right thing to do, just to ease off the gas in the second half.
03:37They got Isak, Bruno, Joel Linton all came off without injury, in particular Joel Linton's
03:43case without a yellow card, so he's now just got two more games to avoid a yellow card
03:47and avoid a two-game suspension. But yeah, it was just the perfect night for Newcastle
03:51and Leicester, they got the win, came relatively unscathed, didn't really have to try too hard
03:55and yeah, Leicester will be really disappointed, but Newcastle won't have an easier test than
03:58this, they've got Ipswich in a couple of weeks, but I think they'll even put up a
04:01stiffer resistance than this. But yeah, Newcastle did what they needed to do,
04:04as I said, they're back up to fifth in the Premier League, game in hand against Chelsea
04:09above them and if they win that, they can go three points above them and that just comes
04:13against Palace next week. So yeah, it's a good win for them in a week, as I said at the beginning
04:16of this, they needed that win, they needed to stamp their authority on the teams around them
04:21and of course, top five football now is, it's hopefully going to be, well, it's certainly
04:26what they aim for, Eddie Howe said that before the game, hopefully something they can achieve,
04:28but yeah, 3-0 here at King Power Stadium, Newcastle won't get an easier test than that
04:32all season and yeah, just a very good Monday night performance from Eddie Howe's side.
