00:0014 months into the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the death toll has risen to 45,484,
00:16including more than 50 Palestinians killed in the last 24 hours.
00:23In South Korea, at least 177 people lost their lives on Sunday
00:27when an airliner skidded off the runway and crashed at Muan International Airport.
00:35And on December 30th marks 20 years of the fire at former Republica de Cromañón nightclub
00:41in the city of Buenos Aires, where 194 young people died and more than 1,400 were injured.
00:48Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisu Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:58We begin with the news.
01:0014 months into the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the death toll has risen to 45,484,
01:24including more than 50 Palestinians killed in the last 24 hours.
01:28According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 52 people died after falling victim to the most recent Israeli attacks,
01:34which caused the disappearance of 11,000 Palestinians who remained under the rubble.
01:39One of the assaults by the Israeli army was carried out against the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahaya,
01:45where armed men surrounded and forced the evacuation of approximately 400 people and then set fire to the building.
01:51The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned the aggression,
01:55calling the seizures clear violations of international humanitarian law.
02:04On this Sunday, a fifth Palestinian baby froze to death due to the extreme cold affecting Gaza amid the ongoing Israeli genocide.
02:12The death was registered in the locality of Deir al-Bala,
02:15where dozens of displaced families live in tents and in inhuman conditions due to Zionist troops' aggression.
02:22Authorities reported that the baby was barely one month old,
02:25and detailed that the health condition of his twin brother has worsened by the low temperatures.
02:30This is the fifth newborn to die in less than a week due to freezing
02:34because of the lack of supplies due to the blockade of humanitarian aid by the Tel Aviv regime.
02:45The Egyptian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque
02:49by the Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir.
02:53The Egyptian Foreign Ministry pointed out that the Israeli Minister of National Security's disregard
02:58for the sanctity of the compound is proof of contempt for Muslims worldwide
03:02and lack of interest in peaceful coexistence.
03:05It also urged Israel to fulfill its obligations as an occupying state
03:09and stressed the need to respect the holy site as a pure place of worship for Muslims.
03:15Likewise, it highlighted the need for the international community,
03:18led by the United Nations Security Council,
03:20to take decisive action against Israel and stop its violations.
03:30And in Israel, crowds took part in a large demonstration in the streets of Tel Aviv
03:34to denounce the failure of Benjamin Netanyahu's government to secure the release of Hamas prisoners.
03:39During the protests, they demanded that a prisoner exchange agreement be offered
03:43with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement.
03:46Opposition groups also accused Netanyahu of obstructing the ceasefire agreement
03:50in order to maintain his position in the face of threats of overthrow
03:54by the security and finance ministries.
03:56Some of the families of the Israeli detainees sent messages
03:59to the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump,
04:02urging him to pressure the Israeli Prime Minister to accept an agreement with Hamas.
04:13President Trump, President-elect Trump, to know that the vast majority of Israelis
04:17want an end to the war and bringing back the hostages in a comprehensive release deal.
04:22This is the vast majority, every post.
04:25But he keeps, you know, portraying the picture otherwise.
04:30And this is why we want to warn President Trump that Netanyahu is trying to deceive him.
04:38Today, as we light the fourth candle of Hanukkah,
04:41our loved ones mark 449 days in captivity in the hell that is in Gaza.
04:50Negotiations for their release are at a critical point.
04:54It is possible to secure a comprehensive deal.
04:58Yet, Netanyahu, for his own criminal motives, refuses to end the war,
05:04which is a requirement for the release deal to happen.
05:10And in Yemen, the Houthi movement shot down a U.S. unmanned aerial vehicle
05:14over the Al-Baida province.
05:16According to the authorities, the drones were carrying out hostile missions inside the country.
05:20In this context, 13 U.S. drones have been successfully shot down by Yemeni air defenses
05:25since the beginning of the escalation in the Middle East.
05:28According to the U.S. Congressional Research Service,
05:31the cost of each drone is estimated at $30 million.
05:40At the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF says that 2024 has been
05:45one of the worst years for children in recent history.
05:50According to the United Nations data, armed conflicts like the ones in Palestine,
05:54Lebanon and Sudan have meant malnutrition, forced displacements
05:58and psychological trauma for children in those countries.
06:02According to the agency's report, over 473 million children live in conflict areas
06:08and 49% of the people displaced by conflict happen to be children.
06:12UN data indicates that in the first nine months of this year,
06:15more children were killed than in 2023.

06:41In South Korea, a commercial airliner burst into flames Sunday morning
06:45after skidding off an airport runway and slamming into a concrete barrier
06:49when its front undercarriage failed to deploy during landing, killing at least 177 people.
06:56In what is considered one of the country's worst air disasters,
06:59the National Fire Agency said rescuers rushed to get people off the Jeju Airjet
07:04carrying 181 passengers at the airport in one city, about 290 kilometers south of Seoul.
07:11The transportation ministry said that the plane was a 15-year-old Boeing 737-800
07:16returning from Thailand.
07:18Furthermore, rescuers pulled out two crew members
07:20and local health officials said they were conscious.
07:27In India, the government held state funerals for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,
07:32who passed away after a long illness.
07:34President Durupati Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi
07:37and other members of the government paid their respects at the ceremony.
07:41The coffin was escorted by security forces
07:43and taken from the Congress Party headquarters to the cremation site.
07:47Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Singh will always be remembered as a kind-hearted person,
07:52an erudite economist and a leader dedicated to reforms.
07:55The administration also indicated that the country will be in mourning
07:58until January 1, 2025, with the suspension of official entertainment activities until then.
08:09In Canada, Halifax Airport was temporarily closed
08:12after a plane from St. John's, Newfoundland, was forced to make an emergency landing.
08:17This plane skidded on the runway before part of it burst into flames.
08:21According to an airport report, the incident involved Air Canada Flight 2259
08:27operated by PAL Airlines and occurred at about 9.30 p.m. local time.
08:32The number of passengers was not specified,
08:34but they were evacuated and taken to a hangar for medical evaluation.
08:44And in the United States, three firefighters and a dozen passengers were injured in Florida on Saturday
08:49when a firetruck drove into a railroad crossing into the path of a high-speed passenger train
08:55after waiting for another train to pass.
08:57The accident occurred at 10.45 a.m. local time in busy downtown Delray Beach.
09:03As a result of the accident, the Brightline train was stopped on the tracks with its front end destroyed
09:09about a block away from the firetruck.
09:11Palm Beach County firefighters transported 12 people from the train to the hospital with minor injuries.
09:17The Delray Beach Fire Department said in a social media post
09:20that three of its firefighters were in stable condition at the hospital.
09:25And a recent report by the United Nations Children's Fund released this Saturday
09:33revealed that approximately 473 million children worldwide currently live in conflict zones.
09:38This figure represents nearly 19 percent of the global child population,
09:43an alarming increase from 10 percent in the 1990s.
09:46The study highlights that more children than ever are facing the consequences of conflict,
09:51being forcibly displaced from their homes or caught in the midst of violence.
09:55This has resulted in many children being killed or seriously injured,
09:59dropping out of school, lacking essential vaccinations, or suffering from severe malnutrition.
10:21In Peru, authorities increased on Saturday 291 the number of ports closed
10:26due to the strong waves that have caused material damage since Friday along the country's coastline.
10:31The National Emergency Operations Center informed that a decision to increase the closure of ports
10:36has been taken due to the abnormal swell, which, according to forecasts, will continue until next Wednesday.
10:42In view of this situation, the Minister of Defense, Walter Astudillo,
10:46traveled to the northern region of Tumbes to supervise the response actions of the armed forces
10:52at the National Institute of Civil Defense.
10:55The minister also met with regional and local authorities in order to coordinate measures
11:00to reinforce support to those affected.
11:11We are experiencing anomalous waves.
11:15The Port Authority and the National Directorate of Hydrography indicated that starting from December 25 of this month,
11:22waves that could cause problems in the coastal area, throughout the northern coast, were expected to originate.
11:30We have integrated police forces with the civil defense, city maintenance,
11:35and all areas of the municipality to have control and prevent personal injuries or casualties due to the wave phenomenon.
11:44Also, last weekend, a bridge connecting the cities of Estreito and Aguirre-Nopales collapsed,
11:49causing two trucks carrying chemical products such as herbicides and sulfuric acid to fall.
11:54The accident prompted federal authorities to conduct an analysis to assess the quality of the Tocantins River,
12:00but the study showed that chemicals did not contaminate the water because the containers had not been broken.
12:07Data from the Ministry of Health's Water Quality Monitoring Information System
12:11indicated that a highly toxic chemical substance used as an ingredient in the so-called Agent Orange
12:17was found in the Tocantins River.
12:19The concentration of pesticides in all Brazilian rivers has alarmed the authorities,
12:24while warning the population of the risk of coming in contact with the water currents.

17:21In its 20th year, the carnival includes participants and performers from different locations
17:26and takes place during the whole month of December with different cultural activities.
17:51Hopefully we will be able to beat the Brazil carnival in years to come or in decades to come
17:57because we are actually doing that, we are exhibiting our talents perfectly.
18:01Calabar is the first city that do carnival,
18:05but now when you look at it you see that every state have their carnival,
