12 December - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there. Grey and gloomy for much of the UK during the rest of the day and increasingly
00:07so in fact across many areas into Friday. The best chance of some sunshine will again
00:14be across parts of Scotland but even here there is a bit more cloud compared with recent
00:18days and one or two spots of rain as well. But the greyest skies, the mistiest conditions
00:24will be through East Wales, the Midlands, parts of the South, East and Northern England.
00:29Hill fog, patchy light rain and drizzle, some showery rain as well for the far South West
00:35with a brisk breeze here. But all in all for most it's a cloudy day. The rain won't be
00:41particularly heavy but in some places it will be persistently damp and as a result it's
00:45not going to feel very pleasant even if temperatures do rise up to 8 or 9 Celsius. Meanwhile it's
00:50been a chilly start to the day for Scotland and in some spots temperatures won't rise
00:55much above freezing. That's where the brightest skies will be nevertheless and as we go into
01:00the evening we'll keep some holes in the cloud across Central and Northern Scotland as a
01:05result still the potential for an overnight frost and temperatures dipping to minus 3
01:10to minus 6 Celsius. But it's going to be much more localised through parts of the Grampians
01:14into North East Scotland for example. Otherwise for the North and West of Scotland a thicker
01:19cloud and some light outbreaks of rain. A few holes in the cloud for Northern Ireland
01:23there. West Wales for example, the South West where we get some holes in the cloud further
01:28South 1 or 2 Celsius as we start the day. But for many we keep the sheet of cloud and
01:33we keep temperatures of 5 or 6 Celsius. We also keep some light rain and drizzle as well
01:38as mist to begin things on Friday. So another gloomy start to the day and for the vast majority
01:43it's a cloudy day I suspect. But there will be some breaks in the cloud, some brighter
01:48interludes for parts of Northern Ireland, North East Scotland for example. The North
01:52West of Scotland sees some heavier rain, more persistent rain moving in as the weather front
01:56pushes through during Friday afternoon. Some clearest bells coming on a brisk North Westerly
02:02breeze later in the day albeit with 1 or 2 showers. But for the vast majority it's a
02:07similar picture. It's cloudy, it's misty, it's gloomy and it's drizzly. 6, 7, 8 Celsius
02:15in the South and in fact across parts of Scotland it's going to be less chilly but
02:21cloudier compared with recent days. Now the front I mentioned is going to sink its way
02:26South Eastwards across Scotland and Northern Ireland on Friday night but it does tend to
02:30fizzle away, it turns to an area of showers. And we've got clearest bells and showers returning
02:35to the North West of Scotland. Under those clearest bells could be a touch of frost on
02:39Friday night but otherwise for most of the UK it's a cloudy start to the weekend. The
02:44front comes South and fizzles away as it runs into high pressure. This next high builds
02:50into the South but it's going to be sufficiently far South to allow Westerlies across much
02:56of the UK and that means increasingly wet weather across Northern areas, especially
03:02Western Scotland with some significant rain totals building up from Sunday for a few days.
03:08And so we're also going to see strong winds with particularly gusty winds for the North
03:12East of the UK. So Westerlies return through the weekend. It's going to turn more changeable
03:18with the most unsettled weather in the North. It's also going to turn much, much milder.
03:23We'll keep you updated right here on YouTube. Bye bye.
