00:00Hi there, Storm Dara has been named because of the risk of significant disruption from
00:05an area of low pressure moving in on Saturday and it's western parts of the UK at greatest
00:11risk from that. But before Storm Dara, there's another low that we need to watch out for
00:16and that's arriving during the rest of Thursday. It's going to bring a spell of heavy rain
00:20into western Scotland, parts of western England and Wales, followed by showers into Northern
00:25Ireland. The wet weather could cause issues for north Wales and north-west England, 30mm
00:30in a few hours, coinciding with the evening rush. But it's staying dry towards the south-east
00:35for much of the afternoon before the rain eventually turns up into the evening. The
00:40winds increasingly an issue as well, those winds increasing through the afternoon and
00:45into the evening, staying strong overnight. There's the risk of 50-60 mph wind gusts and
00:50for some exposed coasts in the west, 70 mph. Now what with the wind staying strong overnight,
00:56it's going to be a frost-free night with temperatures staying in the mid-single figures. But the
01:01winds are coming from the north-west, it's going to turn colder as the rain clears away.
01:05It does clear away quite quickly, so a bright start for many on Friday, some decent sunshine
01:09out there first thing. Still some showers into the north and west of Scotland, one or
01:13two into north-west England. But otherwise, Friday morning's looking fine, blue skies
01:17for most. Feeling quite chilly out there, but nevertheless, it's going to be a dry start
01:23at least. And it stays largely fine in the east through the day, but in the west quite
01:27quickly the rain ahead of Storm Dara arrives and that rain's going to be heavy across Northern
01:32Ireland and western Scotland by the end of the afternoon. The winds will also be picking
01:36up at this stage and those winds are going to become increasingly strong on Friday night.
01:40Gales developing widely across the country and those winds will be strongest across exposed
01:46western coasts. So it's through Friday night and into Saturday that the gales become widespread,
01:53but it's western parts of the UK, as you can see from this gust graphic, where we're going
01:57to see the strongest of those wind gusts, with widely 60 to 70 mph wind gusts, especially
02:03around coasts, but not exclusively. And for some exposed areas, the risk of 80 mph wind
02:09gusts as we go into Saturday. Storm Dara moves through and then we're going to see the winds
02:15change direction once again, bringing colder air for the end of the weekend. But stay up
