00:00I think the most dangerous game now is figuring out which statue is safe next to him.
00:04Here's your look at the brand-new Diamond Select.
00:06This is the Marvel's Kraven the Hunter PVC diorama statue.
00:21Former Russian noble Sergei Kravinov came to America for one reason, to hunt Spider-Man
00:25the Ultimate Prey.
00:26Kraven's fighting skills, combined with his mystical strength-enhancing potions from the
00:30darkest jungles of Africa, made him a prolific gamesman, a legacy that has outlived him.
00:36Kraven the Hunter's initial pursuit of the wall-crawler gave way to years-long feud,
00:42and Kraven's repeated failures slowly drove him to the brink of insanity, and eventually
00:46resulted in his death.
00:48This gallery diorama of Kraven the Hunter is based on his appearance in Marvel Comics.
00:52It features detailed sculpting and paint details, and is made of high-quality PVC.
00:56It was designed by Cesar, and sculpted by Alterton.
01:00Wow, I can't really speak too much about Kraven's last day.
01:02I mean, come on, look at this guy.
01:03If Peter's his prey, the wall-crawler's days are numbered.
01:06How about before we get down to the details of the new Kraven the Hunter PVC gallery statue,
01:09I'm going to just go back up a bit and thank the folks over at Diamond that kindly provided
01:14this sample we could have a look at.
01:16If you're looking though to hunt down Kraven and add him to your statue's Spidey lineup,
01:20he should be available right now in comic book stores or online.
01:23Let's grab that with a tape measure and see how tall he stands, whether it be his last
01:26stand or not.
01:27Kraven the Hunter, if you include the mane on the back of his body, is going to give
01:30us a statue that's 8 inches in height, where the world's greatest hunter is about 19.5
01:35centimeters tall.
01:36Kraven first debuted in comics in The Amazing Spider-Man number 15 from August 1964.
01:41It's also then fitting enough that we're looking at a PVC release of the Hunter, considering
01:44that we're getting a theatrical release of Kraven the Hunter in theaters soon.
01:48I can't help but though feel like Kraven's going to probably follow the same successful
01:51rate as another Spidey villain solo movie with Morbius.
01:54I feel like if anything, Kraven could have worked a little bit better being an introduced
01:57villain in one of the Spidey sequels instead.
02:00While I feel like maybe Sony's going to under-deliver a Kraven the Hunter in theaters, I feel like
02:04though Diamond on the other hand has over-delivered a comic accurate Kraven the Hunter in PVC
02:09form.
02:10Despite being made of plastic though, he's misleadingly heavy.
02:13It's not till you actually pick up the statue that you realize there's a lot of mass of
02:16the plastic here.
02:17Picking it up in fact, actually looking at the bottom of the base, if not for the fact
02:20that they've covered over the bottom here, this probably would have been hollow plastic.
02:24And yet though, there's so much mass of plastic and weight that goes along with this.
02:28The thing I really like first of all about the display base is that they kept the colors
02:31quite grounded, using again a lot more of the grays, the greens of the moss, and again
02:35the rooted twigs and branches sticking out from the ground, you have the green of course
02:39from the plant on the back, and all these additionally cool-looking bamboo rods sticking
02:43out.
02:44This contrasts the colors to the yellow and the flesh tone that he has in his body.
02:47Now again, while looking at the base, there's nothing really at all where I'm looking at
02:51this and thinking that they've left the sculpt off.
02:53This is one thing that Diamond does so well when it comes to their gallery statue releases,
02:56is giving though a subject base that fits then with a character that's on top of it.
03:01As for the character though on top of it, we get a closer look at Kraven the Hunter.
03:04He seems quite proud in what he's doing for a job, big sneer across his face.
03:09His eyes are a little harder to make out though, but despite that you can still see there's
03:12a lot of talented paint that goes behind the scenes, while all the artists meticulously
03:16adding the paint to the eyes.
03:18So as small as they may be, you can still make out that he's got those pupils, very
03:22large-looking caterpillar eyebrows, a foliage of mustache and beard down below.
03:26It's a well-sculpted sculpt of Kraven the Hunter.
03:29I think they've done a nice job on him.
03:31One of the things of course that go along with Kraven the Hunter is the fact that he
03:33does have himself a lion's mane vest, which has been nicely colored here.
03:37You can see though, split it up the middle by his exposed bear chest.
03:41On one side we've got the lion's face, and on the other side we've got that as well.
03:44I like the colors that they've added for the eyes, so that the eyes do stand out.
03:48That from a distance you then start seeing, is there something looking back at me?
03:52And then you realize that's the lion's eyes.
03:54Nicely done there.
03:55Of course the back of the mane as well, starts mostly here in a dark brown, but then they've
03:59dusted on top of that a lighter coloring of beige.
04:02It works to a very nice dark contrasting colors that then blend nicely into a lighter colors
04:06on the top.
04:08Here's the one issue I have though with the statue, is not necessarily the pose, certainly
04:11not at all the sculpt for the portrait.
04:13I feel like it's one thing when they printed on the leopard print for his pants.
04:18It looks generally clean and spaced out on this one side.
04:21But then when you get to this leg here, even though it's a straight leg rather than bent,
04:25it seems like sort of the leopard print gets lost here, as so much that gets so squished
04:29together, it's hard to kind of make out the print.
04:32I wish that they could have kept the printing a little bit spaced out like this, so it looked
04:36a little bit more like this leg than it does on this side here.
04:39Still despite that though, the print looks very good on it.
04:41You've got some nice additional yellows that they've added in there as well.
04:44It looks like they start generally with a lighter yellow, and then they've brushed on
04:46some little bit more of a warmer yellow, as you can see a few little markings there.
04:51It's a really nice sculpted statue.
04:53Of course he does have the spear in his hand.
04:55Being that this is PVC plastic, you can see there's a little bit also of give.
04:58I don't think that all the spear would be likely to break, because of course as you
05:01can see with a little bit of bend that I'm doing right now, PVC plastic is a really good
05:06entry way to get into statue collecting, because you can get a high-end looking collectible
05:10without paying the price that goes along with it.
05:13He has of course the little bands there, the leopard print there wrapped around his bicep,
05:16has some additional printing here, probably not quite from a leopard, but maybe instead
05:20from a tiger.
05:21He seems to be just loving the cat family, so we've got lions represented, we've got
05:25tigers, no bears unfortunately, but of course we've also got the leopard print.
05:29Generally for the most part, it looks pretty good.
05:31He's got some spikes sticking out the back of his belt there as well, all again made
05:34of PVC plastic, so there's no worry at all that these would break at all.
05:38It's just a generally a neat looking statue.
05:40The one thing I really like also about this though, especially seeing it from the side,
05:43there's a really cool looking pose to this.
05:45It looks like Craven is hunting his prey through like maybe the foliage of a jungle, and it
05:50works really quite well.
05:52One of my favorite things though about the statue is the fact that they added all these
05:54bamboo rods.
05:55Easily, they could have just gone with rocks, and they could have just gone with a few bushes
05:59and plants, but having those little bamboo rods, I feel adds a little bit more character
06:03to the display base as a whole.
06:05As a whole though, like I said, it's a great looking statue.
06:08The only thing I would probably have said as a critique of it is while I do like the
06:12leopard print on this one side of his leg, it gets a little messier here on the other
06:16side.
06:17It kind of looks like they wanted to squish in as many of the leopard print patches as
06:20they possibly could, and it sort of ends results, the end result of that.
06:23It kind of looks like it's a little messier on this side.
06:25Other than that though, it's a really nice Craven the Hunter.
06:27I don't think we really have a lot of Craven the Hunter PVC gallery statues.
06:30If this is the first one, just by virtue of that, if the best one we've gotten so far
06:34from Diamond Select Toys, sure enough, you know me.
06:36I looked online, and there was in fact a Diamond Select release of Craven the Hunter as a statue
06:40in 2006.
06:41The statue though isn't as interesting in this one.
06:44It basically just had the hunter standing straight on top of a spidey stand with a net
06:48in his hand, and his other hand was extended out straight.
06:51I mean, you can look it up online.
06:53I think really between the two Craven statues, in fact, if those are the only two that we've
06:56gotten from Diamond, this is by far the superior one.
06:59Not only from a mold, not only from the way they've posed him, but also as well the paint
07:03applications.
07:04There's a lot of good stuff going into this statue, whether you like the look of the main
07:08vest, for example, that he has, the leopard print in his pants.
07:11There's just a lot of cool pattern work that they've painted in this piece.
07:14I mean, again, I keep going back to the display stand, but that's probably one of my favorite
07:18things about this.
07:19None of it necessarily takes away from the subject of Craven, but it's one of those stands
07:24that complement the subject.
07:25It doesn't have to necessarily compete or take the attention away from it.
07:29It's just one that works really well with the subject, and again, that being Craven
07:32the Hunter.
07:33This spear is also one thing that I like that they put in his hand.
07:36It just adds a little bit more that gives a story to the statue.
07:39If you're having to go to a statue and start thinking to yourself, I wonder what he's doing
07:43right now?
07:44That is a way of being a successful statue.
07:46You don't want to just be looking at it and thinking, oh, that's pretty cool.
07:49But if it brings your eyes in and it wants to make you look at more things on it, that's
07:54the testament of what Diamond's doing regularly.
07:57Again, one of the things I do say often on a regular basis is if you ever want to get
08:01into statue collecting and you don't know where, venture into the idea of collecting
08:04PVC gallery statues from Diamond Select.
08:07You get just as much sculpt and paint as what you get with the premium statues, but because
08:11it's being made in PVC plastic, it's much more affordable to your budget.
08:16This guy, like I said, is available right now through comic book stores or online.
08:19I'd like to thank, again, thank the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide this
08:22sample of the new gallery statue release of Kraven the Hunter.
08:26Let me know down below in the comments section what you guys think of the statue.
08:29Let me also know what your feelings are when it comes to solo villain movies.
08:32I always feel, again, like we don't need to give an entire backstory to these characters.
08:36I feel like Doc Ock, for example, in the Spider-Man 2, the rainy Spider-Man 2, was just as an
08:41effective villain without having to have a standalone movie.
08:45But what do you guys think of it?
08:46Let me know down below.
08:47And in the meantime, if you guys did enjoy this video, do it a solid, throw it a like.
08:49You guys want to stick around for more?
08:51I hope so.
08:52Don't forget to subscribe, turn on that bell, and of course, come back.
08:55If in the meantime, you guys want to check out other things I've looked at for Diamond
08:57Select, well then, popping up at the very end of this video, you'll be seeing it shortly,
09:02will be playlists, not only for statues, but also Diamond Select reviews.
09:05Feel free to watch those playlists if you have a little bit of time on your hands.
09:08As always, thanks for watching.
09:10See you guys next time.
