00:00 Here's a leader that can really go out on a limb.
00:02 Here's a look at the Diamond Select Marvel Select Fantastic Four Mr. Fantastic
00:07 collector's action figure.
00:11 [music]
00:39 A scientific genius and one of the most intelligent humans on Earth,
00:42 Reed Richards led the outer space expedition that changed the Fantastic Four's lives forever.
00:46 As such, he feels especially responsible for the group's well-being,
00:49 particularly that of his friend Ben Grimm,
00:51 who is more physically altered by the cosmic rays effects than the rest.
00:54 Though ever pragmatic and solution-oriented,
00:57 Reed has found that his hyper-logical approach has not always been the best
01:01 and come across rely heavily on the rest of his team for the insight and heart,
01:05 especially his wife Sue.
01:06 This 1/10 scale action figure of Mr. Fantastic is based on his appearance in Marvel Comics.
01:11 It features 16 points of articulation and multiple interchangeable accessories.
01:15 Hmm... I wonder if Reed gets a knot in his back he can stretch that out.
01:19 I mean literally, probably would be a big giant knot.
01:22 Before of course we get a closer look at the Marvel Select Mr. Fantastic,
01:25 I'd like to send a big thank you if I can to the folks over at Diamond Select
01:28 who have had enough to provide this sample we could have a look at.
01:30 Mr. Fantastic is available as of right now if you guys are interested to get this guy
01:34 either in local comic book stores or online.
01:36 Now let's go ahead and grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
01:38 First though in inches, Mr. Fantastic is exactly 7 of those.
01:42 Or the figure is going to be about 18 centimeters tall.
01:46 For right now at least I have the Fantastic 2.
01:49 So let's slide over Mr. Fantastic and bring in the earlier looked at Human Torch,
01:53 also from Diamond Select.
01:55 Now of course as he is right now, you can change the state of Mr. Fantastic
01:58 by simply just adding the additional parts that we'll look at in a second.
02:01 But as he is right now at least he's slightly shorter than Human Torch.
02:05 Coming included with a pencil cup.
02:07 Actually that's not a pencil cup, that's going to be the lower half of his body.
02:10 As you can see already for yourself, there's a lot of things that come included with Mr. Fantastic.
02:14 We'll start things first I feel with the smallest of things.
02:17 The figure comes included with the ultimate nullifier.
02:19 This has been molded nicely here in silver plastic.
02:22 It can be held in his hand and good news is it can be held with the hand that he has right now.
02:26 So just take the figure and take the nullifier.
02:29 You want to be careful though of course when you are taking this out of the packaging
02:32 that you don't drop the nullifier in the process.
02:34 And it does also have some slightly softer pieces of plastic here on either end of it.
02:38 So you want to make sure of course when you're putting it into his hand
02:40 that you take that accordingly and just be careful of course when you're putting it in his hand.
02:44 And of course he does have the means to hold it.
02:46 The hard thing really with the fact that you have a figure that is Mr. Fantastic,
02:50 obviously you'd be a little bummed out by the fact that you didn't have anything
02:53 other than just maybe a few swapped out hands.
02:55 But Diamond Select doesn't do that, no.
02:57 They include a lot more.
02:58 So the figure also as well, I guess sort of in the more boring end of things,
03:02 the figure also comes included with a pair of relaxed hands.
03:04 Simply just pop out the gripping hands that he has right now at least
03:08 and change them out with the relaxed hands.
03:09 He also has those available.
03:11 Now strangely though, he also has one other hand.
03:13 And if you were to say look at it, it's not really that much different than the hand he already has.
03:18 I was trying to look at the two and see what was different really between the two.
03:21 And if just to look at the hinges also as well.
03:24 The hinges also look to be in the same placement.
03:27 I thought maybe like one hinge would sway back and forth this way
03:29 and one would sway back and forth this way.
03:31 But it seems to be the same.
03:33 They seem to be the exact same hinge.
03:35 So again, I'm not really sure why he came included with two extra,
03:38 essentially the exact same hand.
03:40 But again, those can swap out with the existing ones that he has in his forearms.
03:44 Speaking of his forearms though, Mr. Fantastic also has elongated ones
03:48 with quite larger hands.
03:50 One is a punching hand and the other one more is a grabbing hand.
03:53 And again, you just easily pop the hands that are off from his forearms.
03:56 Actually, you know what, I'll do that right now.
03:58 Before we do that, I just want to show you guys the head sculpt from Mr. Fantastic.
04:01 It is stellar.
04:02 One thing I always really advocate when it comes to Diamond Select's work
04:05 is really when you compare, I feel, like Marvel Select to what we're getting with Marvel Legends.
04:09 I feel there's no real competition.
04:11 The figure sits at around the same price as a Marvel Legends.
04:13 And yet with the sculpting, the paint, and all the extra things that they include with it,
04:17 I think it's easily better than stuff we're getting with Marvel Legends.
04:20 At least my own personal opinion.
04:21 Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards if you will,
04:24 does look to be quite a good looking head sculpt all in all.
04:27 The thing though, a little bit unfortunately about the figure is,
04:30 while he looks okay from this side of his face,
04:32 when you turn him around, I notice at least on mine,
04:35 he's got a line on the bottom of his nose.
04:37 Can you see that?
04:38 And I thought that was a wrinkle until I look at it from the side.
04:41 And it looks almost like it's a continuous line
04:44 from the one he's supposed to have just around his cheek.
04:46 I don't know why there's a cut in plastic piece like that.
04:49 Or a little line right there indented into the plastic itself.
04:52 From the front, it doesn't look as bad until you see it from the side.
04:56 Now that could very well be the one that I got from the factory.
04:58 The one of course that was sent my way.
05:00 Just happens to have that.
05:01 If you have Mr. Fantastic, let me know also if you have
05:04 a little line right there on his nose.
05:06 Other than that though, the paint is really handled well here.
05:08 The colors of the bright blue here.
05:10 Of course you've got the Fantastic Four symbol there
05:12 represented here on the front outline nicely in black.
05:15 Paint is again, pretty clean.
05:17 There's nothing really I've noticed on the figure itself that looks messy.
05:20 Collar area maybe here isn't the sharpest.
05:23 There are a few little areas you can see that
05:25 they probably haven't cut in as well as they could have.
05:28 It's not as definitive of a line for example.
05:31 But still the paint is really handled well here for Mr. Fantastic.
05:34 Okay, I did say you could swap out the hands.
05:36 So say for example you did want to change out to these arms here.
05:39 Instead of actually removing it from the hand where you'd imagine that to be,
05:42 first you're going to want to detach it from the form.
05:45 Now all of the things that we're about to do in Mr. Fantastic are quite easy.
05:48 You're just going to pop that off.
05:50 I promise I'll stop doing that.
05:51 Just pop that off the form and then find the appropriate hand.
05:54 You want to make sure of course even if it's long arms or not,
05:56 it's always going to be the same.
05:58 Thumbsies go in. That's the rule of thumb.
06:00 Plug that in place. That's just going to plug on the end of it.
06:03 You want to make sure of course when you're doing it too that it goes all the way on there.
06:06 And then we'll do the exact same thing on this side.
06:08 Now you don't even have to have this symmetrical.
06:10 It really wouldn't be symmetrical anyways because of course you have a fist
06:12 and a grabbing hand on the opposite side.
06:14 But if you did really want to, you could only really use one hand if you wanted to
06:17 and then just keep the other hand just a regular normal sized arm.
06:20 But we're not going to do that.
06:21 We're going to go ahead and pop the other hand off.
06:23 Again it just pops very easily off from the peg.
06:25 The only thing I would really say is when you are popping this off,
06:28 just want to make sure you're holding sort of onto the forearm
06:30 because you don't want to be yanking the arm off of the peg.
06:33 The elbow area is the part that wants to stay behind.
06:36 It's really the forearm here is the part that you're going to want to pop off.
06:39 And again you just... I almost got it. I almost got it.
06:42 There we go. I probably shouldn't have used so much moisturizer.
06:45 And we're going to go ahead and just pop the new arm in place.
06:48 Again you want to make sure it's all the way on there. There we go.
06:50 Now we could just stop the review right there and say that Mr. Fantastic's got a lot of cool accessories.
06:55 But again, you got all these extra things happening over here as well.
06:58 You can take for example his head. His head also detaches.
07:02 And again it just detaches via the peg there.
07:05 And then you also get this extendable neck piece.
07:07 And the neck just simply plugs in place where the head was before.
07:11 Like that. And you either have it forward like this.
07:14 Kind of looks a little like that elephant guy.
07:16 No, not really like an elephant. What was that character from Star Wars?
07:19 It's like a hammerhead. It was sort of a flat head on the front.
07:23 You guys I'm sure probably be able to tell me.
07:25 Anyways, you either have the neck facing that way or you can also twist it back this way.
07:29 It depends on really whatever you'd like to do.
07:31 Then we're going to go ahead and attach the head then back onto the neck.
07:34 There you go. And you got Mr. Fantastic now with the longer neck.
07:38 Oh, but wait. There's more. I sound like an infomercial.
07:40 What you can also do as well is that you can take the torso piece and detach it right here.
07:44 You can divorce the top half of the body to his mid area.
07:47 And then you can replace it with an extendable piece that goes right here in his abdomen section.
07:51 To do that, we're just going to pop the top part off here like this.
07:55 You want to make sure that this is the part that stays behind on the top of his torso.
07:59 And then the easier of the two parts, you're going to take this part, just easily pop that off.
08:03 And then you're going to replace it with this part of his torso.
08:06 I'm looking at the front of the back. I'm just trying to see which is which.
08:10 I would imagine that this is the back by the way it sinks in.
08:13 And I would have guessed that this would be then the front of his body because the way it's kind of wrinkled.
08:17 And what we're going to do is we're going to take then the top of his body.
08:20 And we're going to snap it back in place.
08:22 Now it may involve a little bit of pressure. It may also involve not using moisturizer on your hands.
08:26 But there you have Mr. Fantastic.
08:28 I think it's pretty much what we had at the beginning of this review when I had the figure first on the turntable.
08:33 And all in all, just on that own, just on its own, that looks great.
08:37 The fact that we would even get just as many accessories as we do in that department.
08:41 But then the figure also has this.
08:44 I jokingly said earlier that it looked like a cup holder.
08:46 It is actually just a very large funnel of plastic.
08:50 My only real criticism I would say for Mr. Fantastic is while looking at this,
08:54 it looks really good the way they've sculpted and painted this.
08:57 Adding darker colors of the blue and sort of more the recessed sections of where this would be spiraling around.
09:03 The thing about it though is while it's supposed to look like it's spiraling around,
09:07 it looks too, I feel, connected together.
09:10 There's no gaps. There's no spaces.
09:12 If this was something like, for example, Mr. Fantastic was literally just spinning around, wrapping himself around.
09:17 Say, for example, you want to take a bad guy and you want to put him inside of there.
09:20 I feel like there should be then gapped areas.
09:22 So like there would be a space say here or a space say here.
09:25 So it looked like an actual spiraling reed instead of actually so compact together like that.
09:31 Because it's really quite finished all the way around.
09:34 What you can then do is you can take your Mr. Fantastic.
09:37 Just going to again detach him from the lower half of his body.
09:40 Make sure, of course, the abdomen area is still attached.
09:43 Because this is the one thing of all the things from Mr. Fantastic.
09:47 This is the part I find is the hardest to get in place.
09:49 And then you're going to take basically like this end and then that plugs into Mr. Fantastic.
09:53 And that basically just gives him then every single thing that he comes included with.
09:57 Short of again just swapping out his hands.
09:59 Now it looks good on Mr. Fantastic.
10:02 Again, the only thing I would say about it is while looking at it,
10:05 I just kind of wish there were more gap spaces because I feel it's just too close together.
10:09 I don't know if they did that from a structural standpoint.
10:11 But you can kind of see like where at the top of his body would start to make his way.
10:15 And you can kind of follow that way all the way around.
10:18 But again, I just feel like there should be, you know, I already said this for...
10:21 I said it too much, but there really should be some gap spaces in there also as well.
10:25 Let's go ahead and just attach this for at least right now.
10:28 We're going to also as well, I think.
10:29 You know what? We'll just keep that in place.
10:31 It doesn't really affect necessarily the articulation on reed retchers.
10:34 It just means it's going to be a little harder to show off everything.
10:37 Let's actually... Actually, we'll keep this in place for right now.
10:40 So the posability on reed retchers, based on what we have right now, at least,
10:44 the head can rotate all the way around.
10:47 Now it's to you as to decide whether you want to have the figure configured this way,
10:51 like we have it right now.
10:52 At any given point, of course, you can easily just attach those pieces.
10:55 Like for the neck, for example, we'll just attach this.
10:57 I might just... The one thing I think I might just do away with is actually attaching the neck.
11:01 I like the idea of Mr. Fantastic having his head more closer, I think,
11:05 to the quarters of his shoulders.
11:07 Anyways, if you want to stick with just this head,
11:09 the head does rotate back and forth because, of course, it's plugged in place.
11:12 And additionally to that, the head is also on a ball joint.
11:15 It doesn't move as much or as easy as I would hope.
11:18 You can rock the head back and forth, for example, up and down.
11:22 Down is a lot easier.
11:23 Back is where it's only going to stop to about there.
11:26 The figure also has an upper torso ball joint,
11:29 so you can rotate that all the way around.
11:31 Whether, again, you wanted to use this part of the figure's body
11:33 or you want to have it a little bit more compact,
11:35 it basically works the exact same way.
11:37 It swivels back and forth this way, only on just a straight peg.
11:40 You can also take as well the arms and rotate them all the way around,
11:43 all the way around.
11:44 Hinge those arms outward.
11:46 Now, with Mr. Fantastic, I've noticed with his shoulders,
11:48 you can only give them about right there.
11:51 It seems anything after that point starts to struggle,
11:54 and I don't certainly want to break the peg.
11:56 So I would say confidently you could go 45.
11:59 Dangerously, you might be able to go a little bit further than that,
12:01 but I'm willing to stick to more safer--
12:03 uh, safer routes.
12:04 Okay, maybe about 90 degrees.
12:06 I had to really force that in order to get that to happen.
12:09 But again, the arms do rotate all the way around.
12:11 You swivel at the bicep.
12:12 Not you, Mr. Fantastic swivels at the bicep.
12:15 The figure only has a single hinge in the elbow,
12:17 but the elbow also rotates,
12:19 and you can also rotate as well the arms.
12:21 Now, with these arms,
12:23 this hand is still attached and connected to the rest of his form,
12:26 so you wouldn't be able to do much of anything there.
12:28 If you were, say, for example--
12:29 I'm just going to put Mr. Fantastic--
12:30 now, if you were to, say, use the original hands,
12:32 then of course you would also inherit the additional articulation in the hand here.
12:35 We'd also be able to move it back and forth as well.
12:37 So we're not--we don't really have that with the configuration I have it set up for right now.
12:40 You're only going to have a swivel here, nothing down here.
12:44 Legs do split out. They're on ball joints.
12:46 You can easily split the legs of Mr. Fantastic.
12:47 You can take the legs, of course, move them forward, move them back.
12:50 And about three quarts up the way,
12:52 you can probably already see right there,
12:53 there's a cut into the thigh,
12:55 as the figure does have a swivel right there.
12:57 The figure has a single hinge only in the knee,
12:59 but it allows at least the lower leg to rotate.
13:01 There's no articulation.
13:03 I thought for a second there may have been articulation in the boot,
13:05 but it seems to be one piece to the rest of the thigh, or rest of the calf.
13:09 Ankle moved back and forth this way.
13:11 You can also rock it back and forth this way as well.
13:13 And if you don't decide you want to use, say, for example, this piece,
13:16 the figure also does technically have pegs on the undersides of his own feet.
13:20 It's, again, just whether up to you
13:22 as to how you really want to have the figure displayed.
13:24 And hey, why not?
13:25 If you're not going to be displaying Mr. Fantastic with, say,
13:27 this part of the figure's body, this part of the figure's body,
13:30 I'm sure you probably could use it for a cup caddy,
13:32 or something to hold pens and pencils.
13:35 All in all, though, it is a really nice Mr. Fantastic.
13:37 Once again, shows the work that Diamond Select put into these pieces.
13:41 I mean, yes, I'm not necessarily faulting Marvel Legends,
13:44 but really the amount of stuff that you get from Mr. Fantastic,
13:47 and the price that they continue to be,
13:49 Marvel Select, I still think, is knocking it out of the park
13:51 when it comes to their releases.
13:53 I need to get myself my hands on Sue Storm.
13:57 That's what I was going to say.
13:59 The Invisible Woman. There you go.
14:01 And I also, of course, I already have a thing,
14:03 but I do want to upgrade my thing,
14:05 so I have a little bit nicer of one I can have displayed
14:07 with the rest of the Fantastic Four.
14:09 I can't believe I forgot Sue Storm's name.
14:11 You know, the Invisible Woman, the love interest and all to Reed Richards.
14:14 While forgetting the name of Sue Storm,
14:16 I also couldn't remember the name of that Star Wars character
14:18 that the neck for Reed Richards reminded me of,
14:20 that just dawned on me. It's Mo-Ma N'don.
14:23 Yeah, it was just on the tip of my tongue.
14:25 Mo-Ma N'don. I'm sure somebody who is a better fan of Star Wars
14:28 will probably tell me the pronunciation of Mo-Ma down below.
14:30 I'd love to get just a t-shirt that just has the big giant snail head of Mo-Ma
14:34 just printed on the front.
14:36 Does anybody make a Mo-Ma t-shirt?
14:38 Anyways, we're not talking about Star Wars,
14:40 nor are we talking about big giant snail heads.
14:42 What we're talking about instead is cup holder Reed Richards.
14:45 Seriously, the lower half of his body,
14:47 while being a really cool included accessory,
14:49 does resemble something that either would hold a bottle of water
14:51 or would store your favorite pens and pencils.
14:54 I think when it comes to displaying Reed Richards on the shelf,
14:56 as cool as the accessory was,
14:58 I'm probably just going to be having the figure displayed instead
15:00 with his regular human legs.
15:02 Still elongating his torso and definitely going with the longer arms.
15:05 I like the lower half of his body as it is right now.
15:08 I mean, it's painted and it's well sculpted,
15:10 but I think it did need a little bit of gap spaces,
15:14 so it actually did look like he was spiraling around something.
15:18 As it is right now, it's really compact plastic.
15:20 At least it's painted to its credit,
15:22 but I wish it did have a few little section sections to it.
15:26 Sectional sections? Mo-Ma-na-don.
15:29 Nice looking figure though.
15:30 Now, unfortunately with mine, as you saw in this review,
15:32 he has a little scratch or something on the end of his nose.
15:34 I can't imagine that's across the board with all the human...
15:37 Fantastic Four. I'm drawing a blank again.
15:39 Fantastic Four, Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards.
15:42 I can't imagine that's with all the figures.
15:44 So if you happen to have yourself Reed Richards for yourself,
15:46 let me know if you have a similar scratch on the end of the nose.
15:48 Not your nose, the nose of the figure.
15:50 Painted well, and again, all the accessories that come included with this figure.
15:53 It still argues the point.
15:55 I mean, for what the Diamond is selling these figures for,
15:57 like usually here in Canada, I think it's around...
15:59 It's like about $40 to $45, if memory serves me correctly,
16:02 at Marvel Select prices when it comes to, of course,
16:04 getting them at comic book stores.
16:06 They're usually a little less than $50.
16:08 For what we're getting with Marvel Legends,
16:09 I mean, I think this stuff really is better, if you ask me,
16:13 than what we're getting from Hasbro.
16:15 I mean, it's still a good-looking head sculpt for Mr. Fantastic.
16:17 I mean, the paintwork is just exceptional on this piece.
16:20 And with the amount of accessories thrown into it,
16:22 yes, more of this kind of stuff.
16:24 Speaking of more of this kind of stuff, again,
16:25 I'd like to thank the folks over at Diamond Select
16:27 who did kindly provide this sample of Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards himself.
16:31 Mo-mon-da-don. Not Mo-mon.
16:33 But we did have a look at, of course, Reed Richards in this review.
16:36 And a big thank you to Diamond Select for sending him my way.
16:38 What do you guys think of the figure?
16:39 Let me know down below in the comment section.
16:40 Have you had the chance to get Marvel Select's Fantastic Four,
16:43 Reed Richards, for yourself?
16:44 Let me know what you think of the figure down below.
16:46 And also, as well, if you did manage to pick up this figure,
16:48 how do you have him displayed?
16:50 Also, as well, if you guys enjoyed this video, hit it with a like.
16:52 If you guys are loving the content, Mo-mon-da-don.
16:54 And you'd like to stick around for more,
16:56 if you haven't already done so,
16:58 make sure you hit that subscribe button down below,
17:00 and you're turning on the bell notification.
17:01 As always, guys, thanks for watching.
