00:00If you don't love Buddy Heald, what the hell is going on with you?
00:03That's a you thing.
00:04And I'm mad at myself.
00:06How long has Buddy Heald been in the league?
00:08How long has Buddy been around?
00:10Easy ten.
00:11Eight?
00:12More?
00:13Easy ten.
00:14Okay, now I gotta look it up.
00:15Now I gotta look it up.
00:16Do your take and I'll find the actual number.
00:17Well, no.
00:18Yeah.
00:19Buddy Heald...
00:20He started in 17.
00:21Okay.
00:22So...
00:23This is year nine.
00:25I'm mad at myself for not realizing this sooner.
00:29And I guess not.
00:30Like, I've watched him play for years.
00:33Sure.
00:34League Pass, the whole deal, Sacramento.
00:38You know, where else has he played?
00:39I know that Indiana more recently.
00:41Pelicans?
00:42There was the Philadelphia there at the end of last year.
00:44I've watched Buddy Heald and I've always just been like, yeah, this is a nice player.
00:48He's a shooter.
00:49But for whatever reason, there's just that buzz.
00:52That buzz that's in the sky.
00:54And the buzz from Sacramento.
00:56And I even had when he got acquired by the Warriors.
01:00Some of my Kings people were like, oh gosh, they hate him up here.
01:04They hate him.
01:05And I'm like, okay, gosh, I wonder why, but okay, there's gotta be a reason.
01:11Does he not play defense?
01:13Is he a two cent head?
01:15Does he not know where to go with the ball?
01:17Does he got a bad attitude?
01:19I'm like wondering, what is it that y'all...
01:21And they'd have their answer or whatever, and I'm like, all right.
01:24So sort of stepped into the Buddy Heald experience with one eyebrow up, like what are we all
01:28gonna think about this guy?
01:30And you know what changed?
01:31Not my thoughts about Buddy Heald.
01:33What changed was my thoughts of Kings fans.
01:36What's the matter with all of you?
01:38Do you understand this is just an inferiority complex that you have?
01:43But then by extension, let me also say this.
01:46Maybe Buddy's a little bit different here.
01:48And I immediately started thinking, and again, I know it's only seven games in, but I started
01:53thinking of the likes of Andrew Wiggins and Jimmy Garoppolo, and maybe not as great of
01:58an example, but Pablo Sandoval.
02:01And where I'm going with this is players who were good here, and then just not that great
02:08elsewhere.
02:09A perfect fit here that was not a perfect fit in other places.
02:16And I'm wondering if that's what Buddy Heald is, and if Buddy is now getting ready for
02:23a good little run here for the remainder of his career, still in his early 30s, but
02:28a good little run here with the Warriors, because this fits like a glove.
02:32It seems to fit like a glove, and it's in small sample size, but you heard Steve Kerr
02:36on with us just a little bit ago talking about the energy, the exuberance, the unconscious
02:42nature with which he shoots the ball.
02:44And so far, in a small sample, he's been amazing.
02:48He's averaging a career high, 21.9, small sample.
02:51He's shooting 50% from three, small sample, but he's shooting nine threes a game.
02:58So it's not like he's shooting one three a game.
03:01The man is out there jacking it up from everywhere, and he is on the season right now, 33 of 66
03:07from three.
03:09That's pretty good, Mark.
03:10That's 50%.
03:11That's going to work.
03:12But I also look at Buddy Heald for his career, and he's drafted by New Orleans, and he doesn't
03:17even make it to the deadline, and he's traded to the Kings.
03:20And he goes to Sacramento, and he plays well.
03:23They give him an extension, and they get to the deadline again in 2022, and he gets traded
03:29with Tyrese Halliburton and one of the various Kardashians, Tristan Thompson, Tristan Thompson,
03:36to Indiana for Justin Holliday, Jeremy Lamb, and DeMontis Sabonis.
03:40I'm sure Sacramento loved that trade.
03:42They got Dama Sabonis as a result, and then two years later at the deadline, he's again
03:48traded by Indiana to Philadelphia, and he lasts there for five months, and then he's
03:53traded again in July.
03:55So a guy who's been traded four times in nine years, and he's now on his fifth team in nine
04:02years, it makes you think a certain thing about a player.
04:05It makes you think about a journeyman or a guy who doesn't seem to fit in wherever he
04:11is.
04:12Whatever the reason for all of that being, for me, you put it aside based on what we've
04:16seen so far through seven games, and if you want to talk about the fan poll of Golden
04:22State Warriors right now, this year, seven games in, he's either number three or number
04:29two.
04:30Might be number two.
04:31I mean, Jonathan Kaminga, Steph is Steph, so I guess that's a set aside.
04:35And Draymond is still beloved.
04:36Yep.
04:37And I mean, Jonathan-
04:38And Pods is-
04:39People love Pods.
04:40For sure.
04:41Kaminga gets the most discussion, the most intrigue, has the wow factor.
04:45I think people have such eyes on that to see how it's going to go in the contract year
04:49and all that, but yeah, something about, I mean, look, and I don't even know how sustainable
04:55this is, but-
04:56Right, right.
04:57He's their leading scorer.
04:58He's averaging almost 22 points a game, 50% from threes.
05:01That's not-
05:02It's bananas.
05:03I don't think that's sustainable, so maybe he's not going to average 22 a game, but I
05:06think 18 or 19 is on the table, and he's done that before in this league.
05:12It's funny because I asked a good friend of mine, somebody who I've been friends with
05:15for a long time, and we were lucky enough to get jerseys gifted to us when we did those
05:21live shows last week.
05:22You got a Wiggins, I got a Kaminga, and I asked this really, really old, good friend
05:27of mine as a quiz, who's your favorite warrior?
05:31Thinking that this individual would say Jonathan Kaminga because I thought that she profiled
05:37in that direction, and it was a quiz because if she would have guessed Kaminga, I was going
05:42to give her the Kaminga.
05:44Her answer?
05:45Buddy healed.
05:46And I said-
05:47So she ended up losing out on a free jersey by answering the wrong question?
05:50I said, wow.
05:51Oh my God, that's kind of like the people down on the floor when they're like, get the
05:55answer right, and then everyone's yelling the answer, and you get the wrong answer,
05:58and you get some like parting gift gift bag that's got like, I don't know, some free hand
06:03wipes in it or something.
06:04Pretty cool, huh?
06:05And I thought for sure that she would have said Kaminga because she profiles and she's
06:11always loved Kaminga, but five games in, it was Buddy healed.
06:15What's that mean she profiles as a Kaminga fan?
06:18She is somebody who has visited multiple African countries, and she's been a Kaminga fan since
06:23he became a warrior four years ago.
06:25So you knew that already?
06:26I knew that she loved Kaminga.
06:28I didn't know what the profile of a Kaminga fan was.
06:31She likes Kaminga.
06:32Okay.
06:33She profiles as a Kaminga fan.
06:35Someone who likes Kamingas.
06:36But Buddy healed has rocketed past Kaminga, and I said, great answer, wrong answer.
06:42You lose.
06:43You lose.
06:44Good day, ma'am.
06:45You get nothing.
06:46You lose.
06:47Yeah.
06:48You didn't get a healed Jersey.
06:49Had I, I would have kept it.
06:50Yeah.
06:51Wow.
06:52Cause you know, I'm, I'm big time Buddy fan.
06:53That's the thing.
06:54Like, and I'm getting texts about them.
06:56Everybody's really excited about this guy.
06:59They're really excited about Buddy healed.
07:02So that's kind of a fun question.
07:04Like what is it?
07:05And, and, you know, okay, 22 points a game.
07:08He makes a lot of threes.
07:10There's gotta be more to it though, for him to have sort of captured the, the, the focus
07:15of the warrior fan base this much, seven games in this much.
07:20And as we get ready for a week from tonight, the biggest Tuesday in November, by far, what's
07:27happening, Mark Clay, Thompson's coming back.
07:32Clay Thompson.
07:33Clay Thompson.
07:34And, and what I hear for a lot of people, they don't want to, nobody's going to say,
07:38Oh gosh, you know, like I don't even miss him.
07:43Nobody's going to say that cause it's rude.
07:46But when you're watching Buddy healed play right now, try to make the point that he's
07:51not doing so far exactly all of the things that you wanted clay Thompson to be able to
07:58do.
07:59And he's doing them.
08:00And the only difference is, is he's not doing it as a starter.
08:02Well, and the, the thing about it, and I'm glad you said that, cause I was just thinking
08:06about Buddy replacing clay and no one will ever replace clay, but the things that Buddy's
08:11doing beyond the makes the way he's acting is what we remember clay.
08:16Like that's what we remember from clay, like that sort of, and it's not brain dead because
08:23both are very smart, intelligent basketball players, but they both play with a certain
08:27amount of unconsciousness of, I'm going to shoot it and it's either going to go in or
08:31it's not.
08:32But Buddy has this certain like goofy joy almost.
08:36And I remember that from clay, not last year, but yes.
08:39And that's to me like Buddy is showing us what clay used to be.
08:43He might be someone who at some point this year uses the phrase, Holy cannoli.
08:48Exactly.
08:49That could happen.
08:50I'm not going to bet on it, but that's what you're saying.
08:53Yeah.
08:54Holy cannoli.
08:55Exactly.
08:56It's crazy.
08:58By the way, Buddy Heald was on the Jim Rome show earlier today and his answers were just
09:02restaurant quality.
09:03Wait until you hear some of these.
09:04We're going to play them for you.
09:05But first, Brett Walnut Creek.
09:06Hi Brett.
09:07Thank you for calling.
09:08What's up?
09:09Guys, guys.
09:10Really, really enjoying the show.
09:11And before I jump into my love of Buddy Heald, I'm just going to throw out two states for
09:12you.
09:13I want you to name the capitals for me, please.
09:14Okay.
09:15Pressure.
09:16New Hampshire.
09:17Oh, crap.
09:18Okay.
09:19Can you go to the, uh, uh, hold on.
09:20Hold on.
09:21Hold on.
09:22What's your second one, Brett?
09:23Vermont.
09:24Vermont is a Mont Belier.
09:25We right.
09:26Okay.
09:27That's Vermont.
09:28Now, back to the other one.
09:29New Hampshire, New Hampshire.
09:30Uh,
09:31no, it's not.
09:32You're giving me the capital of Delaware.
09:35I'll even give you a hint.
09:38It's the city of the East Bay.
09:45It's not, you're giving me the capital of Delaware.
09:48I'll even give you a hint, it's the city in the East Bay.
09:52Dublin?
09:54Wait a minute.
09:55Concord.
09:56Oh, see, let me think.
09:58No, I got Brett, hold on.
10:00Brett, hold on. That's on me.
10:01First of all, I take the L, I take the L.
10:03I'm gonna take the L.
10:04That's my L.
10:05It's on me.
10:06But it was kind of like throwing a pick where you hit the receiver in the hands and it bounces off their hands.
10:11This Jamocha cross from me is mouthing to me, Dover, Dover.
10:17I'm pointing to my dog.
10:18I'm like, dog, that's the capital of Delaware.
10:21I already know that.
10:22He didn't say.
10:23So, I got very distracted, but Brett.
10:25Yeah, that's on me, Brett.
10:26I know, I want to take accountability.
10:28I was the one who said I can do them and I didn't do it, so it's on me, Brett.
10:32Thank you, Brett.
10:33Hey, you know what though?
10:35I still love you, man, but I'm gonna give you my comparison of Buddy Hill.
10:39First of all, I absolutely love this guy when he came out of college.
10:44I mean, this guy was, I'm not gonna quite say he was supposed to be Michael Jordan, but he was the man.
10:49I'm gonna tell you who he reminds me of.
10:51And it's not a basketball player.
10:53It's a football player.
10:54It's Baker Mayfield.
10:56It's a guy that came out.
10:58It's like he was supposed to be all that and he wasn't all that.
11:01He went to his team.
11:02He didn't kind of forge it.
11:05He kind of had an attitude.
11:08Him aligning with Steve Kerr.
11:10Him aligning with Steph Curry.
11:12Him aligning with the Golden State Warriors.
11:15And I'm gonna tip my cap to Mr. Dunleavy.
11:18Greatest, one of the greatest pickups the Warriors have made in their history.
11:24I love the pickup.
11:25I think he's just, it's just the right fit.
11:28And again, it's kind of like Baker Mayfield.
11:31He found himself.
11:32He's a leader now.
11:33And now Buddy Hill.
11:35I mean, what a great six man.
11:37I'd love to hear your guys' comments.
11:38Well, first, what's the capital of Montana, Brett?
11:43Come on, Helen.
11:44Okay.
11:45Well, no, not Helen.
11:46Helena.
11:47But anyway, Brett, close enough.
11:48You win.
11:49And that's on me.
11:50It's like last night when.
11:52No, it's on me.
11:53It's on me.
11:54There was a foul that was committed.
11:55Conquered New Hampshire.
11:56And Moses Moody and Steph were both there.
11:58And Moses immediately was like, I didn't foul.
12:00And the ref's like, oh yeah, that's on Steph.
12:02No, but it's kind of like the Intuit Dome.
12:05Where everybody's like, I'm shooting a free throw.
12:07And everybody's waving thunder sticks at me.
12:09And then I'm going to blame that on the loss.
12:11No, it's on me.
12:12It's my bad.
12:13I was pointing at the donut so that you would know.
12:15I knew you were saying Dover.
12:17But I knew that Dover was the capital of Delaware.
12:19Yeah, that's unfortunate.
12:20I knew that wasn't it.
12:21And so then I'm like, wait, what's this?
12:23Those damn 13 colonies get me every time.
12:27Yeah, totally.
12:28All right.
12:29888-957-9570.
12:31You want to hear from Buddy?
12:33Talking about exactly what we're talking about.
12:35The fit with Golden State on the Jim Rumshow.
12:39Fit and situation.
12:41Something I've been doing for a long time.
12:43But also getting the recognition.
12:45But also playing to a team that wants to emphasize the three balls.
12:49And compliment my movement.
12:51And I watch these guys all my career.
12:53Coming in college, I go to the NBA games when they came into town in Oklahoma.
12:57And watch them play.
12:58So it was just, I studied them.
13:00I always wanted to play in that type of system.
13:03That they applied to the game.
13:06And I always tell everybody, if it wasn't for Steph Curry,
13:09I probably wouldn't have been drafted to the 6th pick.
13:11Because of my shooting.
13:12But I'm just happy to be here.
13:14And I'm just glad to keep building.
13:16I'm just happy to be here.
13:17And by the way, I think this is the one that really caught your attention.
13:21Listen to what he said with regard to the way Steve Kerr coaches him.
13:27Steve does a great job managing the guys, though.
13:29That's the crazy thing about it.
13:30There's no egos involved.
13:32And he delivers the message really simple.
13:35And it's very direct.
13:36And there's no hard feelings.
13:37And all the guys respect it.
13:38And all the guys know what's at stake.
13:40And they all know anybody can come in and fill each and everybody's role.
13:44And Steve does a good job coaching us.
13:47And keeping us even-keeled.
13:48And letting us know, man, he's riding the hot hand.
13:51And whoever the group is rolling, he's going to stick with them.
13:53No hard feelings, because you all guys are deserving to play.
13:55So Steve is doing a great job with getting this message across to the players.
13:58And everybody's comfortable.
13:59That's why we're jelling.
14:00And it makes a lot of sense right now.
14:02He said no hard feelings twice.
14:04Yeah.
14:05And I don't know.
14:06Even Steve sort of slipped this into his conversation
14:09in giving all kinds of compliments to Jonathan Kaminga.
14:12He did say, just literally 20 minutes ago,
14:15Jonathan wants to start.
14:17That's not gone.
14:19So I don't know if Jonathan is 100% no hard feelings.
14:23But it also doesn't matter, because he is reacting well and producing.
14:27Yeah, and that's why I asked Steve about that going forward.
14:30And he said, well, while it's working, we're going to stick with it.
14:33And so I would imagine that tomorrow at Boston,
14:36that Jonathan Kaminga will still come off the bench.
14:39And if the lineup is much like it was last night,
14:43which was a little bit of a surprise.
14:44You and I talked about who the fifth would be.
14:46And it turned out to be GP2, along with Steph and Draymond and Wiggins and TJD.
14:52And so maybe that is the lineup they go with again against Boston.
14:55Because Boston's got a lot of really good wing players.
14:58And so GP2 kind of fits that profile of a good wing defender.
15:02Wiggins is the same.
15:04Draymond, a good defender.
15:05TJD, rim protector.
15:07So that might be something that you see again.
15:09Or that fifth spot might rotate.
15:11Might be GP2 some nights.
15:12Might be Moody some nights.
15:14Might be DeAnthony Melton when he comes back.
15:16I don't know.
15:17I doubt that.
15:18But who knows?
15:19You know, that could be kind of a rotating thing.
15:22A couple other Buddy Heal things that we want to play for you,
15:25including he was asked, does he feel pressure to replace Clay Thompson?
15:29We'll play those for you in just a sec.
15:31But first, Philmo Mike is on the line.
15:33And Philmo is the front of the line.
15:34Philmo, what's going on, man?
15:36Oh, what's up, Moody, man?
15:38Mark Willard.
15:40I had a comparison for Stiney, but I forgot you guys are not Stiney.
15:47We're not.
15:49But we do know him.
15:50We know him.
15:52You guys love him and know him and all that, but nah.
15:55But my thing was, free agent, pickup, acquisition, great topic,
16:00just a little nuggy nug.
16:02Y'all like to say nuggy nug.
16:04Nuggy nug.
16:05When Clay Thompson was asked,
16:06who's his favorite player coming out of the draft,
16:08I believe his name was Buddy Heal.
16:10And either with that or he said, who mostly reminds you of him,
16:14I think it was Buddy Heal.
16:15With that being said, Buddy Heal, great free agent, acquisition.
16:19My question is,
16:20who do you think goes down in some of the Warriors' history
16:23as great free agent, pickup, acquisition?
16:26I got Mo Speight.
16:28I got Livingston.
16:30Was Iguodala free agent or was he a trade?
16:33I think he was a trade, right?
16:35Iguodala was a sign and trade.
16:39So it was a free agent acquisition.
16:41But, yes, there was a transaction there.
16:43I think somewhat similar.
16:45I mean, Kevin Durant's the first name that comes to my mind, Philmo.
16:49Yeah, yeah.
16:50But I'm not talking about, like, you know, that type of Barry Bonds landing.
16:54I'm just talking about, you know, little in between the cracks.
16:57You know who else?
16:58We didn't have a good year,
17:00but he was a good free agent pickup for about four weeks.
17:05Danny Fortson.
17:07Real career fans know what's up.
17:09I loved Danny Fortson, man.
17:12I loved Danny.
17:13I was a big fan of Danny in college.
17:15What about, hey, Philmo, what about Livingston?
17:17Yeah.
17:19Oh, Livingston was awesome because you never knew what you were going to get.
17:24He had played a couple of good years in, what, Brooklyn?
17:27And then I always looked.
17:29Like a lot of the players that the Warriors have been getting,
17:32sort of like even Bielitsa.
17:35Who was last year that didn't work out?
17:37Michael Green.
17:38Oh, no, last year.
17:39Some of the players that don't work out.
17:40Dario Shorich.
17:42Yeah, Shorich is the one last year.
17:44Dario Shorich.
17:45Exactly.
17:46By the way, about five games into the year,
17:47we were loving Dario Shorich last year.
17:50We were.
17:51We were.
17:52We were.
17:53But now Livingston panned out,
