00:13Party, will go to the runoff for the presidential election on November 24th.
00:19Lebanese Islamic Resistance Movement fighters bombed dozens of Israeli settlements in the
00:23Northern Occupied Territories.
00:27The gun strike continues in Peru after the executives' inability to deal with the wave
00:31of extortion and violence sweeping the country.
00:35Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Resus Studios in Havana,
00:43Cuba.
00:44We begin with the news.
00:50In Uruguay, with 99.92% of the votes counted, it is established that Jamon Duarte, CEO of
01:02the World Front and Álvaro Delgado of the National Party, will go to the runoff for
01:06the presidential election on November 24th.
01:08The World Front coalition raised so far 43.9% of the votes, and the National Party dropped
01:14to 26.28%, as did the Colorado Party, which dropped to 16% of its federal ballots.
01:21With these numbers, the World Front and the National Party will reorganize their strategies
01:25as from this Monday, regarding the popular consultation, 39.1% of voters voted in favor
01:32of Social Security and 39.4% voted in favor of establishing night raids, so that neither
01:38of the consultations reached the number necessary for its approval.
01:46Next November 5th, the United States will celebrate its presidential elections.
01:50Let's review some facts of what will possibly be the most curious elections in the history
01:54of the country.
01:58This year we witnessed the shortest and longest election race of all time at the same time.
02:04Kamala Harris, candidate for the Democratic Party, had only 107 days of campaigning, because
02:10the current president and former Democratic Party candidate, Joe Biden, decided to withdraw
02:15from the race with just under four months to go before the election.
02:20From another point of view, this was also the longest campaign since Donald Trump, the
02:25Republican Party's candidate, began his campaign for this year's elections on the same day
02:30he lost the previous election.
02:37All this left a situation in which Kamala Harris became the first black woman in history
02:41to be a presidential candidate, without even running in the primaries.
02:46And Trump, the oldest candidate of all time, won the Republican primaries without participating
02:52in a single debate.
02:54Unprecedented in modern times.
03:03In addition, during the presidential election campaign, Trump suffered two assassination
03:08attempts.
03:09This was unprecedented in history, although only the first was actually an assassination
03:14attempt, and the second was only a preparation in the legal sense.
03:19In Trump's case, it is also striking that this is his third run for the presidency,
03:24something unheard of since the death of President Roosevelt in 1945.
03:29On top of all this, Trump is the first presidential candidate in history to have been the organizer
03:34of an attempted coup d'Ă©tat and instigator of an armed rebellion in the country, for
03:39which he has criminal proceedings open against him.
03:47Finally, an unprecedented number of high-ranking politicians and former politicians campaigned
03:53against candidates of their own party, in addition to a large majority having spoken
03:57out against Trump's election or openly supported Harris.
04:02This year will definitely be one of the most controversial, curious and close elections
04:06in the history of the United States.
04:15Japan's ruling party failed to win a majority of parliamentary votes in Sunday's early
04:20elections.
04:21For the first time since 2009, the Liberal Democratic Party, hit by corruption scandals,
04:25failed to win in the general election due to a blow to the new prime minister, Shigeru
04:29Ishiba.
04:30The head of government said that voters have expressed their strong desire for the Liberal
04:34Democratic Party to reflect and act in accordance with the will of the people.
04:39The results confirmed that citizens are disillusioned by the high cost of living in Japan and political
04:45scandals that helped oust the previous prime minister, Fumio Kishida.
04:53Tunisian authorities reported that at least 15 bodies were found off the coast of the
04:58city of Mahdia, located in the east of the country.
05:02All signs indicate a new sinking of a boat with migrants.
05:06The bodies were found between Saturday and Sunday.
05:08In recent years, Tunisia has become the main departure point for migrant boats trying to
05:14cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe.
05:16In this regard, the International Organization for Migration detailed that so far this year
05:22more than 1,000 people have died or have been reported missing while crossing the Mediterranean
05:27Sea.
05:33In Thailand, a court ordered the disposal of a case against former state security personnel
05:37and officials over the deaths of 85 Muslim protesters in 2004.
05:42While there was enough evidence for an indictment, the case was unable to proceed as no suspects
05:48were arrested and brought to the court.
05:51Therefore, the court issued a disposal order as the 20-year statute of limitations on Friday
05:56said at press release from the court.
05:58The court's statement remarked that the order is not a dismissal of the charges against
06:03the suspect as they had never entered the legal proceedings but fled until the statute
06:07of limitations expired.
06:09The deaths denounced in the case occurred in 2004 shortly after a Muslim separatist
06:14insurgency erupted in Thailand's southernmost provinces of Narithwat, Pathani, and Jala,
06:20the only ones with Muslim majorities in the Buddhist-dominated nation.

07:08Welcome back.
07:16Lebanese Islamic resistance movement fighters bombed dozens of Israeli settlements in the
07:20northern occupied territories.
07:22Hezbollah confirmed that a body of missiles was directed at military targets between the
07:26settlements of Al-Manara and Margalio.
07:30Before the attack, the Lebanese resistance issued for the first time an evacuation order
07:34to Israeli civilians occupying these Palestinian territories.
07:38In southern Lebanon, the inability of Israeli troops becomes evident.
07:42These operations generate new frictions between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense
07:46Minister Yoav Galand, who assured in an open letter that a war without a compass is being
07:52carried out.
07:57And in Egypt, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi proposed on Sunday a two-day ceasefire in
08:01the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of four Israeli prisoners and some Palestinian
08:06prisoners.
08:07In this sense, if the Israeli and Palestinian sides were to accept the agreement, in addition
08:12to the exchange of prisoners, this would allow a human journey to enter Gaza.
08:17Moreover, according to the Egyptian leader, talks would be held within 10 days to implement
08:23a temporary ceasefire, with a view to laying the groundwork for a definite truce.
08:27Al-Sisi also reiterated Egypt's former opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians
08:32out of Gaza.
08:37Also in Palestine, dozens of students and teachers died after being asphyxiated by an
08:41Israeli tear gas attack in the occupied southern West Bank.
08:45According to reports, the Zionist attack targeted a school in the town of Hebron, while school
08:49activities were in progress.
08:51The staff of the institution detailed that they had to evacuate the entire school community
08:57through alternate routes to ensure their safety.
09:00In this context, the secretary of the Fatah movement asserted that Israeli forces fired
09:04toxic gas canisters into the school, causing dozens of students and teachers to suffocate.
09:14Bassam Sabak, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, informed the Secretary-General
09:18of the United Nations on Sunday the exact number of attacks that his territory has received
09:23from the Israeli occupation.
09:25Since October 7, 2023, 116 bombings have been registered, this according with a diplomat
09:31who also said that Israel, with more sophisticated weapons mainly provided by the United States,
09:36attacked innocent civilians, including women, children and the elderly.
09:40It also attacked diplomatic headquarters and border crossings.
09:43The latter have aggravated the humanitarian crisis, since they prevent the entry of supplies
09:48and prevent the victims from taking refuge in safe areas.
09:58Meanwhile in Israel, left-wing activists rallied outside the Ministry of Defense in
10:01Tel Aviv to protest against the wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
10:04The demonstration comes at a critical juncture, as Israel intensifies its military operations
10:09in both regions, and also coinciding with Israel's recent airstrikes on Iran, which
10:14have heightened tensions in the region.
10:17The activists are voicing their opposition to the border conflict, which has drawn in
10:21multiple regional actors and raised concerns about the potential for a wider regional war.
10:27The protests reflect growing domestic unease over the ongoing military engagements, and
10:31their humanitarian and geopolitical implications.
10:57I just came to say, enough, it's impossible to stand behind this thing, we have to say
11:02it's not right to do it, and we have to protest against it.
11:08We are here, over a hundred Israelis, protesting against the ongoing genocide that is happening
11:13in the Gaza Strip.
11:14We are saying that we need to stop this right now and reach a peaceful solution that will
11:19bring security to both the Israelis and the Palestinians.
11:22To bring security, we need to stop the genocide.
11:27The governments of Algeria and Egypt call for an Israeli ceasefire in the Gaza Strip
11:30and stress the need to restore stability in the region.
11:34Algerian President Abdel-Majid Tabun supports Egypt's initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza
11:39and demands that Israel allow the entry of humanitarian aid and stop the extermination
11:44against the Palestinian people, while the president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi,
11:47affirmed that he maintains his position as mediator and said that the solution is to
11:52establish a Palestinian state after their meeting in Cairo, the leaders discussed issues
11:57of bilateral interests and mainly their concern for security, stability and peace in the region.

12:41Welcome back.
12:42The UN High Commission for Human Rights has urgently called for strict controls to prevent
12:47arms shipments to Haiti.
12:49The most recent report of the United Nations mission in the South American nation revealed
12:53that every day, on average, 13 people are murdered.
12:58In the most violent year that this country is going through, in terms of citizen security,
13:02from January 2024 to October, more than 3,450 people have been murdered due to criminality.
13:09The UN High Office assures that the arms that contribute to these rates of violence come
13:15mainly from the United States, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
13:20A national strike continues in Peru after the executive's inability to deal with the
13:26wave of extortion and violence sweeping the country.
13:30According to the Defense Front of Ayacucho organization, the pressure measure is being
13:34carried out to demand national authorities take concrete measures and strengthen actions
13:39against crime.
13:40The organization assures that the discontent of most Peruvians is due to the abandonment
13:45by the state in the face of the constant robberies, extortions and murders all along the country.
13:51It is worth noting that during the last few weeks, the UN has carried out at least three
13:58national strikes to demand the crimes registered in Peru.
14:02In Bolivia, Senate President Andronico RodrĂguez petitioned the Inter-American Commission on
14:12Human Rights to grant protection measures for former President Evo Morales.
14:16RodrĂguez proposed the creation of an interdisciplinary group of independent experts that can objectively
14:22investigate the incidents that occurred this Sunday in Cochabamba.
14:26The president of the legislative body also considers prudent the presence of a UN observation
14:30mission.
14:31The call comes after the former president was the victim of an attack while traveling
14:36on a vehicle.
14:37The president of the Peruvian national state, Luis Arce, condemned the attack and requested
14:42an exhaustive investigation.
15:02In the Philippines, authorities reported 116 people dead following the passage of tropical
15:06storm Trami.
15:07According to data from the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management,
15:11there were also 109 injured, while 39 are still missing.
15:16Authorities added that over one million people are sheltered in assistance centers after
15:20landslides and strong winds caused damage to thousands of houses.
15:25The Philippines Meteorological Agency warns about the arrival of storm Kongray, with sustained
15:31winds of up to 95 km per hour, with forecasts of reaching typhoon category in the next 24
15:38hours.
15:39And in the UK, local press announced Monday that since October 16th, Woburn Safari Park
15:46has taken care of the first eastern mountain mongo kalf in Bedfordshire, which is a main
15:51success to preserve that critically endangered species.
15:55The International Union for the Conservation of Nature has already declassified the forest
15:59antelope as a critically endangered species, as there are fewer than 100 eastern mountain
16:05mongo worldwide due to poaching and loss of habitat.
16:08Therefore, Woburn Safari Park mounted a breeding program from which the male calf has been
16:13the first to be born in over 10 years, amounting to five the mongo herd at the park.
16:20By the time the calf grows up, he will be transferred to start a breeding group of his
16:24own.
16:25So far, vets say both mongo mom and calf are healthy.
16:29Coracas hosted the fifth chapter of the Venezuela Mi Patria Querida Festival, with the band
16:51Serenata Guayanesa as the main musical attraction.
16:54Let's see more details in the following report.
16:59The Aguiles Nazoa Cultural Center was the stage for the Viva Venezuela Festival, which
17:04featured the Serenata Guayanesa Quartet and paid tribute to the states of Amazonas, Bolivar
17:10and Delta Amacuro.
17:13I came to see Serenata Guayanesa, which is a very old and important group, with their
17:18usual songs, like the one that says, La noche se muestra hermosa y rebosa de alegrĂa.
17:23We sang that one yesterday at a birthday party here.
17:27For me, that song is wonderful, just like all the songs they sing.
17:32Well, Serenata Guayanesa has been working for more than 50 years to promote and disseminate
17:40Venezuelan music and of course, it is very important to have this type of event, for
17:45greater diffusion and for people to enjoy.
17:51The two days were full of color and joy.
17:54In addition to the music, the entrepreneurs were able to offer their products, as is the
17:58case of the Network of Gastronomic Cultures of Guarenas, Guatire Araida.
18:05We make all kinds of Creole desserts, trying to rescue everything that has been lost, desserts
18:10that many people no longer know.
18:15We make desserts such as stuffed turkey and coconut preserves.
18:19I have my profession, and then in my work I distributed my desserts.
18:27I have always sold my desserts since I learned to make them.
18:30Everywhere I have worked I have sold them, and now friends and people ask me, and I sell
18:35them here, in the cultural center.
18:41The festival, which has already registered 214 artists from Venezuela, will continue
18:46its artistic program with chapters dedicated to the Plains and the Andes.
18:52We are very proud of this festival that is touring the country, doing a beautiful job
18:56to make visible, recognize and dignify the culture and our artists.
19:04The invitation is for us to go to the activities that the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture
19:09organizes for everyone, for the enjoyment of the family.
19:15The festival is part of the great mission Viva Venezuela Mi Patria Querida, and it is
19:20a space that aims to promote music, song, rhythm and popular dance, as well as to rescue,
19:26preserve and disseminate traditional values.
