Could Mayo "talk his way out of a job"? Could he turn it around? Thoughts on the take?
Transcript
00:00Mike Florio had this to say on Pro Football Talk
00:04about the chances that Gerard Mayo talks himself out of a job.
00:08Here is what Florio said.
00:10Some have been saying that when you talk about the talent of the team,
00:14it's a little bit of a shot at Bill Belichick.
00:15You can't take a shot like that and have it directed at Belichick.
00:19It's directed at the current coach.
00:20Yeah.
00:21If you're soft, it's a reflection of the current coach.
00:22That's right.
00:23Mayo's gonna talk his way out of this job, you realize that.
00:25We both like him, we both respect him.
00:27He, and I had somebody else on the team say this,
00:29he should not be saying the things he's saying.
00:32And it occurred to me yesterday, if he keeps talking like that,
00:35Robert Kraft's gonna have no choice but to fire him.
00:37Wow.
00:39Yeah, I mean, if they're not winning, I get it.
00:42But if he could turn it around, look at a lot of coaches have said dumb things
00:45and turned it around.
00:46Well, I think he's said many times on this show,
00:50his philosophy is to speak to the players through the media.
00:55Yep.
00:56Yeah, you might want to change that.
00:58He says all the time, the guys hear, like he said it on our show a good three times,
01:03like I say things on this show so that the guys hear it.
01:09But I don't think when you're calling a football team soft,
01:13that you do that anywhere other than in the locker room with them.
01:18I mean, what do you gain by saying it publicly?
