00:00What's up guys, I'm GibbyHD here.
00:07Welcome back.
00:08A bit of a different video today.
00:09So we're outside and behind me, I have a gigantic blank box.
00:14That's because Buick came through and they said, Marques, we want to sponsor a video
00:17and we want you to do the biggest unboxing that you've ever had on the channel, physically
00:24speaking.
00:25And so I think they've accomplished that, but I said, you know what, let me also add
00:36a part two to that because I also have some questions that I want to answer for myself.
00:41So instead of just taking a look at their newest car, what I also want to know is how
00:46much tech is in this thing.
00:48How much tech really is in a new car today in 2020, if you were to get one, what's daily
00:54driver material in the tech world?
00:57So I'm gonna figure that out, but first we have an unboxing to get to.
01:02So I guess now I just need to, how do I figure out how to, oh, that's a door.
01:09There's a door.
01:10There's a door.
01:29Is that a Buick?
01:30Sure is.
01:31It's the new 2020 Buick Encore GX.
01:34Turns out there's a lot of tech in this car that people sort of just take for granted
01:39as things that new cars have in 2020, but this is a tech channel and we're looking at
01:44it from a tech perspective.
01:45And a lot of these things are tech, whether you realize it or not.
01:49So let me show you.
01:50Okay.
01:51So sitting in the driver's seat, interior of the car, there's a couple of screens around
01:55me.
01:56You've probably seen an interior like this before, but one of the new ones, one of the
02:00interesting ones is up above the steering wheel.
02:03It's an HUD, a heads up display.
02:05So heads up displays.
02:06These were first used in high-end systems like jets over the years.
02:10And then like a lot of other high-end tech, we've seen it slowly trickle down to the point
02:14where it's miniaturized so much that we have functional heads up displays in cars.
02:19It's available in this car and it's quite literally a projector inside the dashboard
02:24beaming information onto a little clear surface that pops up where it's viewable by just the
02:29driver.
02:30It's invisible to everyone else because of the angle of the projection.
02:32And it's just generally useful for not taking your eyes too far off the road when driving.
02:36So you can see information at a glance, like your speed and toggle through them to some
02:41other information with a couple of buttons next to the steering wheel where you can also
02:44change the brightness of it or shift the whole projection up or down since people of different
02:49heights will require different HUD positions overall.
02:52Really cool though.
02:53All right.
02:54So next up is a rear view camera.
02:56So this is smart.
02:57So we've all seen a rear view mirror before, and typically this is pretty useful.
03:00And this looks like a regular rear view mirror at first glance.
03:04However, available in this car, there is a dedicated separate camera for this mirror.
03:09And when you flip this middle switch here, the rear view mirror becomes a screen with
03:13a live feed from that camera.
03:15And this, this I wish more cars had for sure.
03:18It's useful if you have stuff in the back seat behind you or blocking the rear windshield
03:22for traditional mirror.
03:24And the advantage is you can even tilt and zoom and adjust brightness.
03:29And it's, it looks, it's surprisingly good quality.
03:31I mean, I think it may actually be 30 FPS, but maybe I could, maybe I can make an entire
03:35video with a camera like this.
03:37Forget two to one.
03:38Let's get that five by one trapezoidal video with rounded corners.
03:43Okay.
03:44Just kidding.
03:45Speaking of cameras, HD surround vision is essentially what you've seen where the top
03:48down view of the car appears when you shift into reverse.
03:52And what it's doing there is it's stitching together a view from all of the different
03:55cameras around the car, putting them together and giving you a 360 view of what you couldn't
03:59see by just checking over your shoulder.
04:02You're seeing every angle at once from that 360 view.
04:05It's better for safety.
04:06It's available in this car.
04:07And just for the peace of mind of being able to see more on the screen at once than you
04:12can in real life.
04:13It's very useful.
04:14Then on top of that, we also got a bunch of sensors for automatic parking assist.
04:18So if you want to enable it and you're about to park, you just hit this button down here.
04:22Then the screen lights up and says, okay, we're looking for a parking space now.
04:26And then if you drive by one that it thinks it can park in, it'll beep at you and let
04:30you know.
04:31So you drive in.
04:32Once you find a space, it beeps at you.
04:34All you have to do is pull up next to the car it tells you to, and just control the
04:38gear selector.
04:39And then the car does everything.
04:41It does the turning of the steering wheel for you.
04:43You don't have to touch the pedals or any of that.
04:46And it's measured out how to pull into either a parallel or perpendicular parking spot.
04:50I suspect most people will use it for parallel parking because they're not good at it, but
04:54it'll do everything and then shift it into park and you're done.
04:57This car also has Alexa built in to the actual car itself.
05:01So it doesn't have to be attached to your phone.
05:04And so with that, it's a voice assistant.
05:05So you can ask it things like to call a contact or a business that you're on your way to,
05:10or even if you're smart, you can have it talk to stuff in your house, like to turn on your
05:14Alexa enabled lights and thermostat as you're on your way home.
05:18And then of course there's just the old fashioned voice assistant questions like, Alexa, what's
05:23the population of New York City?
05:25The population of New York, New York is 8.62 million people.
05:30Definitely a classic.
05:31Then there's a couple other little things.
05:33Most cars have at least some ports.
05:34This one has both full size USB and USB type C ports.
05:40And either one can be used to plug in Android auto.
05:43And in the back next to those ports, there's even a full on outlet, which is definitely
05:48not very common, but cool to see.
05:49And then the car just has its own 4g connection available, which you can use to turn around
05:54and make a wifi hotspot inside the car.
05:57So if you have like a wifi only tablet or something, you can get on the internet using
06:00the hotspot.
06:01The car makes works for up to six devices, even though there's only five seats in the
06:05car and there's even right in the middle, a wireless charger for your compatible devices.
06:10Definitely nice to be able to just sit down and drop your phone in there and not have
06:13any worries.
06:14So yeah, there you have it.
06:15From the screens on the inside with Android auto and car play to the mirror that turns
06:20into a camera, to the 360 stitching and the hotspot and wireless charging, all this stuff,
06:24the car can seem very unassuming, of course, on the outside, but clearly there is quite
06:30a bit of tech involved in the daily drive in 2020, something to think about either way.
06:36Thanks for watching.
06:37Thanks again to Buick for sponsoring this video and giving us the first look and I'll
06:40catch you guys in the next one.
06:42Peace.
