00:02How well does the S23 Ultra fare?
00:04🎵
00:10Good day, you beautiful people.
00:12Welcome to Issa Does Tech, where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:15Today's video is one that a lot of you have asked for
00:18ever since I shot my first video on this phone.
00:21We're testing out the Samsung S23 Ultra against social media apps we use most,
00:26Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
00:27In this video, we're gonna check out how your stories look shot on this phone.
00:30Special features like portrait mode, night mode, zooms, and even filters.
00:35A quick note though that I also have a camera vlog test with S23 Ultra
00:39and a low-light camera test.
00:40I'll link it up here and down below.
00:42Now, to recap, this phone has very powerful cameras.
00:46This phone's main shooter is a 200 megapixel camera.
00:49There's a 12 megapixel wide, a 10 megapixel telephoto,
00:53and a 10 megapixel periscope lens.
00:56Aside from that, Samsung claims that it uses AI to make photos better
00:59and a host of special different features.
01:02But does this translate to social media?
01:05And you know, we're expecting it should
01:06because Samsung did claim that these new Ultras are optimized for social media.
01:11Let's look at how your stories look when viewed via different phones
01:15shot on the S23 Ultra.
01:18So for this part, we're gonna be looking at the iPhone 14 Pro,
01:21the S23, and the Samsung Z Flip 4.
01:25So this is the iPhone 14 Plus, S23, and I have the Flip 4
01:30just so we get to see what it looks like with this thinner form factor here.
01:35Let's look at those stories.
01:38S23 cameras, but via the IG app this time.
01:42This is what that looks like.
01:44A little zoomy.
01:47And then on the S23.
01:49S23 cameras, but via the IG app this time.
01:53This is what that looks like.
01:55A little zoomy.
01:59On the Z Flip 4 this time.
02:01S23 cameras, but via the IG app this time.
02:05This is what that looks like.
02:07A little zoomy.
02:12Right, so the special thing about these Ultras are the S-Pens, of course.
02:17And I've said it before in the very first video I shot of the S23 Ultra.
02:22In terms of remote selfies, this is the phone to beat.
02:24But do these remote selfie features translate to social media?
02:27Let's check.
02:29Right, so the big thing about the S23 Ultra is that it has an S-Pen,
02:33which is one of my favorite tools when it comes to remote selfies.
02:39So this button over here on the S-Pen acts like an automatic Bluetooth trigger,
02:44which is for taking photos on the go, group photos, OOTDs, really, really useful.
02:50But not only can you do these selfies,
02:52you can also use the S-Pen to control the camera app on your S23 Ultra.
02:57This is by no means new, but always a really fun feature.
03:00So for example, if I switch right or left while I press the button on the S-Pen,
03:06it switches between different camera modes.
03:09If I swipe up, it flips the camera.
03:12And this works on different modes of the camera as well.
03:16So it also works on portrait.
03:18And then if I do this, it gives me wide.
03:22Do this, back at 1x.
03:24This also works on portrait mode.
03:27So you get the idea.
03:28It can be really fun and really convenient.
03:30But I've always said that I wish that these features were available on social media apps.
03:35So let's see which of these gestures carry over.
03:40We're on the Instagram app right now under post.
03:42And let's see if some gestures work.
03:45Let's try to see if we can take a remote selfie.
03:49It does work.
03:51Let's see if gestures work on this.
03:53Okay, this app does not support that action.
03:56No swipes.
03:56No swipe up or down.
03:58Only the trigger it seems on the post app.
04:01Let's look at stories.
04:02So we can take remote photos.
04:07How about other gestures?
04:09Okay, no gestures as well.
04:12Snapchat app this time.
04:14Let's see.
04:15All right, you can do your remote selfies.
04:18And then let's look at gestures.
04:20Okay, that air action.
04:22Wait, what?
04:23Oh, there are air actions for Snapchat.
04:27So single press shutter, double press switch cameras.
04:31Okay, oh, so you can actually assign between shutter and switch cameras.
04:36That's all you have.
04:37But you can make it do the shutter if you swipe up.
04:42So I wish we had more like actions on here.
04:48But this is better.
04:50It does let you do the shutter switch cameras.
04:53Maybe I do switch cameras when I swipe up and swipe down.
04:56Let's see.
04:57That's weird.
04:58It doesn't switch camera even if...
05:01Am I doing something wrong?
05:03In theory, it would have been cool to switch cameras with this.
05:06But it doesn't seem to do that.
05:09You know it's recognizing the gesture on the side.
05:12But yeah.
05:17Yeah, okay, I give up.
05:18Let's move on, friends.
05:19So let's get to TikTok.
05:22Let's see if the remote selfie works.
05:28Okay, that doesn't even do the remote trigger.
05:32So I'm assuming...
05:33Yeah, no gestures on the TikTok app.
05:37Again, I've always found this to be a shame
05:40because I feel like this would be fun if you use it in-app.
05:44I'm at least happy that you can do remote selfies on Snapchat and Instagram.
05:50And honestly, the Snapchat app and how it allows you to switch around your actions
05:56seem promising.
05:57I just don't understand why I'm not able to do it.
06:02Wait.
06:03So I know I'm doing the gestures right.
06:05But yeah, nothing's happening.
06:09So you know you're doing the gestures right when that shows up
06:12and shows you what the stuff are.
06:16So I just made every gesture switch camera but it's not doing that.
06:20I just honestly want this to work.
06:23Honestly, this is not the first time I've done this social media test on an Ultra.
06:27And I've said it before and I'll say it again.
06:28I really, really want these S-Pen features to work with the social media apps.
06:33That would be amazing.
06:34Unfortunately, we're not there yet.
06:36So for the next part of this video, we're trying out different in-app filters
06:40because this is one other thing that you guys have asked about.
06:45And especially when it comes to Android phones,
06:47how filters look when you're shooting with a phone.
06:50So let's see.
06:51I have a few of my favorite filters here.
06:55Obviously, this classic.
06:58Okay.
07:01We have this cutie filter.
07:06Oh, look at this one.
07:09Look at my eyes.
07:11Let's try a popular one from the trending tab.
07:16This filter is a little much for me but to prove a point to you guys.
07:21And now on to the Snapchat filters.
07:23I want to find that doggie filter because that was our favorite.
07:28Like that was the one.
07:29That was the one that started all the filters.
07:33Here we are.
07:34Okay, okay.
07:36I love it.
07:40My eyes are so big with this filter.
07:44And finally, let's try out some TikTok filters.
07:47Oh, look at this.
07:52Look at me.
07:55And then we have...
07:56Oh, look at me.
07:58I look nothing like myself.
08:00But this is the bold glamour filter that's been trending
08:03because like they say this was done with AI.
08:06Which is why, as you can see, it doesn't even lift.
08:10But I'm so distracted with how I look right now.
08:14But social media test.
08:15Let's go.
08:17Doesn't even like come off at all.
08:21Hey.
08:23Hi.
08:24So this is me as a teen.
08:26Apparently, I did not look like this when I was a teen though.
08:30Let me just tell you.
08:32Yeah.
08:35So this is how portrait mode looks.
08:37Shot on the S23 Ultra built-in camera app.
08:41On portrait video mode.
08:42Let's see how the blurred background looks in different social media apps.
08:47So there is no bokeh feature, focus feature when you're shooting
08:52in app with stories on Instagram.
08:54But the best that I could do was this focus filter.
08:57And it's also a filter made by Instagram.
08:59And this is what that looks like.
09:01On Snapchat though, listen.
09:04It has a focus mode that you can turn on.
09:08And let's see if we can do that.
09:11I might have to do this in a weird way
09:13because I'm not sure if there's a hands-free version.
09:15And I'm shooting myself.
09:17Shooting myself on social media if you get what I mean.
09:21This is the bokeh option when it comes to Snapchat.
09:25Shooting with the rear cameras of the S23 Ultra.
09:29This is what that looks like.
09:31And actually, as you can see, do you see how the back blurs on TikTok?
09:38No, rear cameras.
09:40Is there a bokeh option?
09:43No.
09:43Okay, let's see if this works.
09:46Oh no, I don't even think that this will work
09:50because it doesn't...
09:52It just picks out a spot that it focuses on.
09:55It doesn't even cut out a certain thing.
09:57So no, unfortunately, we don't have that bokeh mode on TikTok.
10:04So it's basically just Snapchat that has it.
10:09Please do not mind my very messy studio.
10:12But this is an example of how much this phone camera can zoom.
10:17So we're shooting with the camera app.
10:19You have 1x, 10x.
10:22And then you can zoom in up until 20x.
10:29Now on Instagram stories, this is default 1x.
10:33And you can zoom...
10:35I don't know.
10:36There are no numbers but definitely less so
10:39than if you're shooting with the in-camera app of the S23.
10:46Oh, and you can do wide.
10:47You just have to like swipe lower.
10:51On Snapchat, I know this is wide
10:53because at the bottom it says 0.6x when I started shooting.
10:57And you can zoom...
10:59Whoa, I don't know how zoomed in this is
11:03but that's nearer than the camera app.
11:07Now, I also know that it's not the clearest.
11:10It is a little grainy but still.
11:13And then back to wide.
11:15And then on TikTok, this is zoomed in fully.
11:20And I think this is as far as the Instagram story zoom can go.
11:25And then zoom back out and this is a wide.
11:27And then of course, I'm gonna try the zooms using the front-facing camera
11:31because I am an older millennial and we do those zooms.
11:35You know what I mean?
11:36So this is what that looks like.
11:40So it is this smooth.
11:43This is what the zoom looks like on Snapchat.
11:47This is as smooth and as far as it will go.
11:50When it comes to zooming in or out.
11:53So as far as it goes.
11:57And yeah.
11:57And then on TikTok, this is what the zoom looks like.
12:01This is the zoomiest zoom you can do on front-facing camera.
12:06And just for a comparison,
12:12it doesn't even zoom in or out when you record on selfie mode
12:16with the camera app.
12:18So that is mostly, basically, a social media app thing.
12:25Yet again, and this is funny because these were the same results
12:29I got on my S22 Ultra social media test.
12:33Snapchat was doing better in terms of zoom.
12:36Not in terms of quality, but in terms of how far it was zooming.
12:42Again, it's pretty interesting to me that of all social media,
12:45it's Snapchat doing the most here.
12:49Walking and talking this time.
12:51We are shooting with the in-app camera of the S23 Ultra.
12:56This is what that looks like.
12:58And let's flip over the camera and see what that looks like.
13:04Now, might I also point out that there's a super steady mode
13:09on the built-in camera app.
13:11And this is what walking and talking on that looks like.
13:16This is with the Instagram app, walking and talking.
13:20This is the front-facing camera.
13:22Let's flip this around.
13:25Walking and talking.
13:26Rear cameras shot via the Instagram app.
13:33On the other hand, this is walking and talking on the S23 Ultra
13:38but shot with the Snapchat app front-facing camera.
13:42Front-facing camera.
13:44Flipping that over.
13:46This is what walking and talking looks like with the rear cameras.
13:52And finally, walking and talking with the Snapchat app.
13:56This is what footage looks like.
13:58And let's flip this around as well.
14:01How do I flip it?
14:03Flip!
14:03Okay, rear cameras of the Snapchat app, walking and talking.
14:07This is what that looks like.
14:11In terms of low-light, you all already know that the S23 Ultra is great at it.
14:15And if you didn't, you can check out my low-light test.
14:17Yes, I have a whole video on it.
14:19But anyway, this is an in-app cam sample.
14:22And in terms of low-light, nothing really special on IG and TikTok.
14:26But Snapchat has a dedicated low-light mode built into the app.
14:30And you can clearly see how much better that does in the shot already.
14:35Since I was going to talk about features built into the camera app,
14:40that are useful for social media.
14:42Well, one, you have that gesture selfie.
14:46I wasn't going to talk about that, but it keeps on happening.
14:49So yes, gesture selfie is one.
14:52It wants to be included in the list.
14:53But another one is the single take mode,
14:56which again is not new in the Samsung Galaxy S series.
15:00But it's always a useful thing when it comes to social media.
15:04So what this does is when you take a photo,
15:08this shoots a whole 10-second clip.
15:12And you can move around and do whatever you want and try to be cute.
15:16So it doesn't have to be one specific photo.
15:20But then what this mode does is it takes that 10-second clip
15:25and it gives you not only that 10-second clip,
15:29but it also gives you your best shots from the 10-second clip,
15:34meaning your best stills.
15:36It gives you cute edits of what you just did.
15:42So this is a sped up version.
15:44This is a boomerang.
15:48This is a cropped shot.
15:50So it already gave you that 9x16 resolution, perfect for stories.
15:56You have collages, you have different edits,
16:00and then your original video.
16:02So this is a great feature, for example,
16:04if you're alone and wanting to take an OOTD,
16:06you have your S Pen, you turn on the single take mode,
16:09you do a little walk in your cute outfit,
16:12and then you get all these different options for social media.
16:16Very, very useful.
16:17And of course, you have your portrait video mode.
16:20So you can shoot in 4K as well on this.
16:25You have your different filters.
16:27So again, you can see it's a blurred background.
16:30You have this even bigger, brighter blur.
16:34This is gonna look so good when you have tiny lights behind you
16:37or just in front of a tree with light peeking through.
16:41Those little circle things are gonna show up.
16:45It's gonna be so pretty.
16:46You have your color point and that glitch filter.
16:50So this is one tip I have.
16:52Shoot with all the in-camera app features.
16:55You are assured great quality photos and videos.
16:59So for example, let's do just that.
17:01So this is being shot with S23 camera app
17:06with a portrait video glitch filter.
17:08And so from there, you go on to photos and tap this.
17:13Automatically, you have your social media accounts.
17:15So on Instagram, automatically, I can share that to stories
17:19or if you want via TikTok.
17:21So you get the idea.
17:23It's such a convenient way to share videos
17:27you already shot on your in-camera app.
17:31Let's look at the editing features built in on this app.
17:35So let's take this random photo, for example.
17:38So on the app, you have crop.
17:41You have your different filters, again, built into the camera app.
17:45You have even more settings.
17:47So light balance, brightness, exposure, contrast, highlights.
17:51All those good things you can edit here
17:54without an extra photo editing app.
17:56You can, well, blur out your face.
17:59Lol.
18:00I'm kidding.
18:01Yes, you can.
18:02I'm not kidding.
18:02You can.
18:03But yeah, these are those tools.
18:05What is this?
18:06Oh, it's the erase tool for whatever you may have just drawn onto your photo.
18:11And then you have different stickers as well.
18:15You have text options.
18:18And then I feel like this exciting part.
18:20You have face effects.
18:21I know I've shown you guys this before on previous social media tests.
18:26Especially, I think it was my S22 Ultra social media test
18:29where I showed you how I use this to just remove acne.
18:33But yeah, you can smoothen your face tone, do your eyes.
18:39This is what I used in my last social media test.
18:42It's a blemish remover.
18:44And again, I will say these tools are great to have just to touch you up a little bit.
18:49There's nothing wrong with that.
18:50But also, flaws are normal and your imperfections are beautiful.
18:55You have your background blur.
18:57You have your red eye fix.
18:58So, there are many things that you can do here with.
19:02Let me try to check out what that jawline thing looks like.
19:06Okay, I was testing out shades here.
19:08So, maybe we can try it here.
19:12Face effects, jawline.
19:15Let's see.
19:16Oh my god, it does reduce jawline.
19:18Did you see that?
19:19But yeah, you get the idea.
19:21So, you still have a very powerful editing tool built in.
19:25So, aside from all the face effects you can do, there's also an object eraser on here.
19:31And especially because you have the S Pen, for example, this little box that I want to remove,
19:37I can just erase and it's gone.
19:39Now, this also works for shadows and reflections.
19:43So, for example, the reflection of the London Tower Bridge.
19:47Let's see if I can take that out.
19:50Dude, you see that?
19:52So, this is the before.
19:53You can see the reflection in that little box.
19:56I don't even know what that is.
19:57And this is after.
19:58The reflection on the other side is gone and the box is gone either.
20:02You barely notice it and all that with the tap of a button.
20:05You also have spot colour which is basically if you tap a specific colour,
20:10that's the only thing that'll show up.
20:11Or you can take out specific colours as well.
20:15You have style.
20:16So, stylised photos.
20:18Although, not the biggest fan of this.
20:21And then, you have colour mix which you can basically adjust each colour.
20:28Saturation.
20:29It's like the camera raw filter.
20:31Wait, is it called the camera?
20:33You know what I mean.
20:34Like, on Photoshop.
20:35In conclusion, in terms of built-in editing apps and social media optimisations,
20:40Samsung S23 Ultra is not the phone that I've seen most fun social media things on.
20:46But, there are a lot of stuff on here that you could use for your day-to-day content creation.
20:53It's very interesting to me how results are the same.
20:55It was my S22 Ultra social media test where the clear winner
21:00when it comes to social media optimisation when it came to the phone was Snapchat.
21:04Same here.
21:05And I don't know if it's just me but Snapchat is actually,
21:07of all three social media platforms we featured on here,
21:11it's the platform I use least.
21:13So, I'm a little sad about that.
21:14I would totally wish for more optimisation on TikTok or on Instagram.
21:18Instagram stories at least.
21:20That being said though, for this particular Android phone,
21:23I feel like it's way beyond what other people think Androids can do in terms of posting online.
21:29It does pretty well for itself.
21:30Though, I would still really recommend posting with a native built-in camera app
21:35with those built-in features.
21:37It's not a hard choice.
21:38And that's basically it for today's video.
21:40Let me know what you think about this video as well.
21:42Comment down below if you feel like there's something else I should be testing out
21:46in terms of this phone and social media.
21:48Or what other videos you'd want to see me shoot with this phone.
21:51That's it for today.
21:52If you want to see how I use my tech on a daily basis, find me online.
21:54That's Isa Dazz underscore on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
21:57Until next time.
