00:00And that's kind of what we're talking about. They're talking about Sirianni's kids at the podium.
00:04Jerry Jones went on his weekly radio show, 105.3, The Fan. It's the Cowboys' flagship.
00:10Man.
00:10Let me just play this for you.
00:12And he's been doing this show for 14 years with the same guys.
00:16Okay.
00:16And he got to this today.
00:18Okay, this is about a minute and a half, so pay attention because my question to Bay Area fans is,
00:23is this the kind of coverage you want from your team, but we're not giving it to you?
00:29Well, my job is to ask why...
00:30You don't get a job or I'll get another. I'll get somebody else to ask these questions, man.
00:36Jerry, we're just, we're trying to figure out why the team is...
00:39I'm not kidding you. I'm not kidding you.
00:42You're not going to figure out what the team is doing right or wrong.
00:47If you are, or any five or 10 like you,
00:51you need to come to this meeting I'm going to today. There are 32 teams here. You're geniuses.
00:57Jerry...
00:58Okay. Y'all really think you're going to sit here with a microphone and tell me
01:04all of the things that I've done wrong and without going over the rights?
01:10Now, listen, we both know we're talking to a lot of great fans and a lot of great listeners,
01:14and I am very sorry for what happened out there Sunday.
01:18I'm sick about what happened Sunday.
01:21Now, I'm not talking to these guys who don't have this phone.
01:24I'm talking to you, the fans that are listening this morning.
01:28And we can spend a lot of time going over zigging and zagging.
01:34One of the stupidest things I've ever done that anybody has ever analyzed is by the Cowboys.
01:40It was an idiot that did that.
01:44So idiot things can turn into good decisions.
01:49Okay?
01:49Smart things can turn into bad decisions.
01:52The facts are that when you make one, you don't really know whether it's going to be good or not
01:59at the time.
02:02So let's just go ahead.
02:04I'm trying to answer your questions, man.
02:06You want some conversation this morning?
02:08You'll get that.
02:10All right.
02:11So that was Jerry Jones toward the end of it.
02:14But just take a listen.
02:17This is how things got going.
02:19Now, if you think I'm interested,
02:21I'm interested in a phone call with you over a radio and sitting here and throwing all the
02:28good out with the dishwater, you have got to be smoking something over there this morning.
02:34I'm not.
02:35And I really don't.
02:36And I don't even want our listeners to listen to me.
02:40Talk about this is not your job.
02:43Your job isn't to let me go over all the reasons that I did something.
02:48And I'm sorry that I did it.
02:49That's not your job.
02:51Well, my job is to get a job or I'll get another.
02:54I'll get somebody else to ask these questions, man.
02:58Jerry, we're just we're trying to figure out why the team is.
03:01I'm not kidding.
03:02I'm not kidding.
03:04Man, I think accountability is all people ask for.
03:09And he's the GM and owner, Stiney.
03:11And he's stressing.
03:13And that's why he got that reaction.
03:16You know what time it is, Jerry?
03:17You didn't add to the running back room.
03:19You brought in Zeke, who needs a cane.
03:22And now you can't run the ball.
03:24You got that.
03:24You didn't add to the weaponry.
03:26Now you can't move the ball.
03:28Your team's soft.
03:30Your offense is outdated.
03:32He's stressing.
03:33That was his 82nd birthday Sunday.
03:35And they gave up almost 50 points.
03:38But I don't think the host did anything wrong.
03:41I listened to that show weekly, Stiney, and they were consistent.
03:45And they were just asking him, Stiney, are you shocked that you didn't add?
03:49And this is what you're getting.
03:51This is from the 510 on the Comcast Business Text Line.
03:54And this is getting to the heart of it.
03:57Accountability.
03:59That's all we ask for, OK?
04:02Are you getting that accountability from the Bay Area media?
04:07And do you think that Dallas and Philly, for example, hold their players and coaches and
04:13GMs and owners to more accountability than we do out here?
04:19Do you want that?
04:21Do you like that kind of owner talking that candidly about the line of questioning?
04:33Well, now you got me thinking about Kyle Shanahan and his quest to win a Super Bowl.
04:38He's great.
04:39He's come close.
04:40But Andy Reid was replaced in Philly.
04:43Mm hmm.
04:45Kyle is walking on water here, and I'm part of it because I can recognize his brilliance.
04:50I thought you said you weren't part of it.
04:51No, but I'm saying, let's be real and put the right on the table.
04:54If this situation were in Dallas or Philly, where he's gotten this close, had the debacle
04:59and overtime, whatever you want to call it, Stiney, I don't think he would be answering
05:04for that from the media every damn day.
05:07And a win on Sunday wouldn't take that away.
05:10Tell me I'm wrong.
05:12I just really I'm not saying I'm lobbying for that.
05:15But my goodness, he's in the best spot for his quest and what's been going on and how
05:21close he's gotten the non-challenge flag against the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.
05:26I'm telling you, if this were Boston, New York, Philly and and Dallas, Stiney, it would
05:31be a different energy on his neck.
05:35And I don't think that's too far fetched.
05:38So let me ask 49er fans this.
05:40Do you believe that Kyle Shanahan was not held accountable for the overtime rules in
05:48the Super Bowl?
05:49Do you do you think Kyle Shanahan was has been held accountable for his relationship
05:56with Brandon Aiyuk, for example?
05:59Do you think that Kyle Shanahan has been held accountable for decision making in big
06:07games?
06:09And if so, well, then I would imagine you don't really have a gripe about the way the
06:15media out here does their job.
06:17But are we letting these guys get away with not being accountable as opposed to other
06:24cities?
06:25It's a phenomenal question.
06:26And let me just throw this to you.
06:28And I could be totally wrong, Stiney, because I'm not coming at you guys like I'm right.
06:32Can you right now offhand remember an answer from Kyle Shanahan about his relationship
06:39with Brandon Aiyuk here in the past when all this was going?
06:42Can you off the top of your I can't and maybe he answered it.
06:47But my point is, Stiney, he should have been peppered with that question.
06:51And I can't recall him saying we're good, we're fine.
06:56I'm the coach.
06:56He's the receiver.
06:57But my point is, that would have been asked over and over and over to where I could recite
07:04his answer.
07:05I don't believe it has.
07:07And it's almost like you and I go in Bonte and Shasky and Willard and Dibbs talk about
07:11it all day.
07:13What do you think it is?
07:14But just think about that core question I'm posing to you.
07:17I can't remember the ball coach being asked that.
07:20How are you guys?
07:23You know, being asked specifically about how no, how's your relationship with Brandon Aiyuk?
07:30Yeah, I and I don't want to sound like a bloodhound.
07:34I'm just like, I can't remember him being asked specifically that question.
07:39And it's not a bad question.
07:41The 601 on the Comcast Business text line, the 49ers media is scared, is scared to question
07:47Shanahan and Lynch.
07:49They're worried about their credentials being taken away.
07:52That's not it.
07:53I can't remember a Bay Area media guy who got their credential taken from him for, for
08:00overly confrontational or for just being a pain.
08:03Gotcha.
08:04So I, I, I don't think it's that.
08:07Is it just that we're different?
08:09And this is the way we like it out here.
08:11Let's get into the Sirianni because this is, this is pretty interesting too.
08:15And I'm not, I gotta, I gotta formulate my thoughts, but this is, I think he's his, even
08:22before this popped out partner, I think before you play it, he has been his own worst enemy.
08:28All right.
08:28So here's first, we're going to play Sirianni talking about why he brought the kids up to
08:34the podium after the game.
08:37Do you think it is appropriate to have children at a postgame press conference with you right
08:42there?
08:42There are limited opportunities to be able to, um, you know, be able to share these.
08:48I love my, I love my family with, with everything I have.
08:51And, and, and I want them to love this game the way I love this game because of what this
08:57game has done for me.
08:58I like, and so, you know, what, that was my only intention, just like my intention is
09:05like my kids get to go play, get to co-play a catch on the field after, after we win.
09:10Um, and my only intention is after, you know, is after a win, um, being able to, my kids
09:16love going up on that, on that, uh, with that press conference with me.
09:20And, and my only intention is to, to share a moment, you know, after that.
09:24All right.
09:25You got a problem with that?
09:28Cause no, we love family that, how can you have a problem with that answer?
09:32But the timing I do, you knew what you did in regard to that gesture.
09:37You won by four points over a lackluster Brown team yet.
09:40You won.
09:41I think you do that when everything is going good at work and you didn't have that confrontation.
09:47So I thought the kids were used as defense and I hate as a dad and father, which I am
09:53to say that, but Stani, I wasn't born yesterday.
09:55And I think that's why some of the Philly media who I'm not saying in this instance,
10:00or the end ought to be all or God, but come on, Stani to bring them right after you had
10:06that, I'm calling it a confrontation.
10:09You knew you had, you use the kids.
10:14Well, and let's get, let me, uh, shed some context on this because many people may not
10:19know exactly the, uh, the situation.
10:22So the Eagles beat the Browns on Sunday, 20 to 16.
10:26And at the end of the game, Sirianni got into it with some fans who were booing and you
10:32could tell he was going back and forth with them and he was, he was getting animated and
10:37everybody saw it.
10:38And so there's a feeling that Sirianni knew that he was going to be asked about it.
10:46And that's why he brought the kids up there.
10:49I believe so as to deflect.
10:52Anyway, after he gave that answer, here's what the, uh, the hosts on WIP said,
10:59I didn't like the answer about the kids and just doubling down and saying, like, basically
11:04like too bad.
11:05My kids want to come.
11:06Like, I'm sure a lot of coaches, kids want to come up there.
11:09I'm sure that'd be a neat thing for a lot of coaches, kids to do or players, kids or
11:13whatever.
11:13Like, just cause they're your kids doesn't mean you can do that.
11:16Like, I would love to bring my daughter to work with me, but I never want to leave my
11:18daughter.
11:19She's my favorite thing in the world.
11:21Every second I get to spend with her is like a gift.
11:23Like I would bring her to me when she'd sit right there.
11:25Here's where, here's where I'm at on that topic.
11:29Two things.
11:29One, I'm very disappointed that his answer was what it was.
11:33I think it's a straight mistake.
11:34I'm blown away.
11:35I'm, I think it's a, I I'm shocked.
11:38It's a shock.
11:38It's a straight mistake to, to it means Laurie and how we are permitting it at least to this
11:45point and didn't tell him in the last 40 hours.
11:48Don't do it again.
11:49Is that what we want?
11:51Wow.
11:51Do we want an hour's long discussion about whether you should bring a kid up to the podium
11:57or not?
11:57Or multiple kids.
11:58But what if there was a subject matter you needed to get to and it just popped off on
12:02the sideline and Sirianni real quick here.
12:05Stani Sunday didn't stick his chest out until they knew Cleveland was at a time out and
12:09they were a victory for mission.
12:10Then he went back over there to be like bumping his chest.
12:13So you knew that was the rat on the table more so than the ugly wins and to have your
12:19family there.
12:20That's what look, what word am I looking for?
12:23A wiener ish.
12:24That's what look just soft.
12:26You know what I mean?
12:28Yeah.
12:28But here's, here's what, here's what I'm asking fans.
12:32Cause I see, I'm, I'm looking at the Comcast business tax line right now and there's two
12:36times with it.
12:37There's two texts that came in one after the other.
12:42And the first one's from the five one Oh, and it's our, our boy Leroy in two words,
12:48hell yeah.
12:50The Bay Area media is softer than the Dallas Cowboys and they've always been soft.
12:56Okay.
12:57Here's what came in right after other markets are clown shows.
13:04Which is it?
13:06Which is it?
13:07Eight, eight, eight, nine, five, seven, nine, five, seven, zero is the number are other
13:12markets clown shows or are we
13:15soft for lack of a better word?
13:19I mean, that's, that's the question I have that we seem to be in such a different
13:26world than other cities like Philadelphia or maybe even New York or Dallas.
13:34Would you, but we got talented people everywhere you look.
13:37What do you mean?
13:38We got talented people that are on the radio, they write articles, right?
13:43Right.
13:44But there's never just to me, Stani, never that venom.
13:48And, and I don't know why I'm from here.
13:49So I don't know about the clown shows.
13:51I just know this.
13:53I know this market cares.
13:55I hate the college football stigma we have.
13:58I get it.
13:58We talked about it with Cal when Miami visited, but I'm being honest.
14:02I grew up on the Ira Millers.
14:04I grew up on the, you know, the guys that did the money pool, Stani that brought it.
14:09And that's why it's refreshing in this market right now when somebody writes something and
14:13it might be against the grain or you can tell when they're kind of just saying how they feel
14:19and not worried about the consequence.
14:20But let's be honest, you just, if we had a list of guys and gals that lost her credential for
14:26over being overly critical, who would be on there?
14:29Cause it hasn't happened.
14:30Well, I'm not sure it's happened in other cities, but I feel like Kyle and I just go
14:34to Kyle and all his brilliance, like the IU, everything is soft.
14:39You ask about it one time and then it's over.
14:43888-957-9570 is the number.
14:48A lot of good texts coming in already on the Comcast business text line.
14:53The culture of the West Coast is beating around the bush while the East Coast is more direct.
14:59Really?
15:00Is that, is that it?
15:02The other thing is how much, how much of it has to do with, I got news for 49er fans.
15:09The team's been great for five years.
15:11They've come up short, but they've been great for five years.
15:15So would it be fair to even go down that road of, of ultra negativity or ultra confrontation
15:27when they've really just come short by a sliver a couple of times?
15:33But what if I told you in other markets, I'm just saying standing, I think you won't call
15:37me crazy here.
15:39That's almost worse.
15:41The fact they want to get to the bottom of why your bridesmaid, why are you keep continually
15:46coming up short?
15:49So don't we paint that picture out here that, Hey, look at the big picture.
15:54Hey, who's got it better than us?
15:57Or you could say, what the hell is going on to why this, the same coach and team can't
16:02get over the top.
16:03And I'm including the NFC championship losses and the two Superbowls.
16:06But for that matter, I want to switch it up on you.
16:08And I'm not saying right or wrong.
16:11Stony, do you believe Andrew Wiggins, that situation last year or the years past would
16:16have had the grace that he got out here?
16:18Have we been, been in other markets?
16:21I don't believe so.
16:23I believe people would have gone to the ultimate extent.
16:26And I'm not saying that's what I'm lobbying for, but I do know Stony, that thing would
16:33have played out different than how it played out here in the Bay.
16:37And as graceful as graceful as all we were all.
16:40Yeah, I Evan, what do you think about the Wiggins thing?
16:44I'm, I'm, I don't know.
16:47I think Guru could be right on point about other cities wanting to get to the bottom
16:54of it.
16:54Do you think if Evan, do you think if Wiggins were in New York, that people would have been
17:00more, media would have been more aggressive at quote unquote, getting to the bottom of
17:04it?
17:06No, I don't, I don't think we would know by now if he played for the Knicks or if he
17:12played for the Sixers, like what's been happening.
17:14We just found out that apparently it's had to do with his dad who tragically passed away.
17:18But the three month hiatus, I don't think we'd know unless he told us.
17:24Yeah, I kind of agree with Evan, but I could be wrong.
17:29We could all be wrong.
17:30I don't know.
17:31Well, my point was, it wasn't about getting the answer.
17:33It was about how much time was spent on, on the whereabouts and trying to get the answer.
17:40Right.
17:41Because you knew you weren't getting it from the, you know, the subject matter.
17:44So I get what Evan's saying.
17:45My point is how much time would have been spent, even if it was uncomfortable by hosts
17:50and reporters trying to get to the bottom of it so they could get that answer, not waiting
17:55on it, but get that answer before the parties were trying to give it to them.
17:59Well, but for example, on Willard and Dibbs with Steve Kerr, like they would ask him about
18:03Wiggins every week.
18:04Right.
18:04There was just no update.
18:06And they would, you know, Willard would say, hey, no, obligatorily got to ask you about
18:11Andrew Wiggins.
18:11And they did a good job.
18:12I mean, but I don't know what else you're supposed to do besides, I mean, you keep needling
18:16and needling because I think Kerr even one time, I don't want to say nearly broke, but
18:21basically just shut it down.
18:22Like, I have nothing else to tell you.
18:24Right.
18:24So I don't know what else you want as a fan.
18:29I think that's, that's well said.
18:31I mean, the, I don't know what the answer is, but I want to know what Bay Area fans
18:39would like or what they prefer or whether or not they think the Bay Area media is holding
18:47people accountable like other cities.
18:49This is interesting from the 262 on the Comcast business tax line.
18:53I think it really comes down to context.
18:55I'd like to think that if we had a joke like Sirianni as a head coach, you guys would be
19:01on him, but we have a guy.
19:03Uh, yes.
19:05So if, if Kyle, like, I guess Kyle Shanahan's more of a serious figure than Nick Sirianni.
19:13And so with that comes a respect that Sirianni doesn't get.
19:18Maybe that's got something to do with it.
19:19888-957-9570.
19:23Here's the other question I have.
19:25What does it look like when a media holds owners, GMs, coaches, and players accountable?
19:33Like, what does that even look like?
19:34I think the soundbite you just played with Jerry Jones, like Jerry knows what the guys
19:40are trying to convey and what's happening with his team and his club.
19:43And he's a big part of that.
19:45And he just doesn't want to admit it.
19:47And he's hurt and he knows it's not getting better anytime soon, but you're from the East
19:52Coast, Donnie.
19:52And I don't want to say every reporter or radio host here in the Bay Area was born and
19:56raised in the Bay, but can I lick you in the face?
19:59You, Evan, and I, and say people are more aggressive 9 out of 10 times in the East Coast
20:05than out here on the West Coast.
20:06Yeah.
20:09Yeah.
20:09And maybe you could take that to work with you.
20:13Yeah.
20:13I mean, I also think it's like you can ask a question that's holding somebody accountable
20:22without being rude and divisive and trying to bait the interviewee into saying something
20:33derogatory or confrontational.
20:36Like you'd reference John Shea at the Buster Posey press conference.
20:44All he did was say, are you going to be more transparent with the contract situation of
20:51Buster Posey than you were with Farhan Zaidi?
20:53And everyone's, oh my God!
20:54No doubt, you're right.
20:55I mean, it was as professional a question as you could possibly ask if that's the question
21:01you wanted to ask.
21:03So you wish we were in Dallas in terms of the media?
21:09You wish we were in Philly in terms of the media?
21:12That's what I'm asking today.
21:14Are we doing a good enough job holding the sports teams and players and coaches that
21:19we cover accountable?
