00:00the togetherness that we have as a staff, they'd probably be 7 and 5.
00:05I think it's bigger than that, Stony.
00:07Yeah, I think that's as big as it gets when a team doesn't like each other.
00:10Well, the only sign we've gotten is-
00:12Agenda City, it's just like the Warriors.
00:14George Kittle said he was open.
00:16That's about as much as-
00:17You seem to conveniently forget Jawan Jennings tweeting out
00:21Brian Ryuk wanted his money, huh?
00:23People think they're better than they are.
00:24Had a false sense of self-worth, and then he retracted it saying it wasn't meant for that.
00:28Of course not.
00:30Of course not.
00:30And Bosa with the MAGA hat didn't mean anything.
00:32Yeah, no, man.
00:33And Debo Samuel going after Salt-N-Pepa, you know, that's-
00:38Alagia 3.
00:39Yeah, that's nothing.
00:40I hear you.
00:41All those things.
00:42Anyway, the boss texted me at 6.42.
00:46I was up and pretty much getting ready to come in by that point anyway.
00:50I like to get here early.
00:52And he said, what's the single biggest thing that makes you the most mad about the 49ers
00:57if you were a fan?
00:58And I- you want me to say it again exactly how I said it?
01:02Yeah.
01:02Because Evan thinks it was pretty well written.
01:05Okay.
01:06I said- here's what I said.
01:09Losing sight of the common goal, and they fractured like a regular team.
01:16Just like any team.
01:17Like the Jacksonville Jaguars or the-
01:20Or the-
01:20The Chicago Bears.
01:23Or the Arizona Cardinals.
01:25They just fractured.
01:26They fractured.
01:28The Bears.
01:28But they still got time.
01:31Willard reminded me of that yesterday, Stanley.
01:33Well, as long as Willard reminded you, then it must-
01:35Numbers are numbers.
01:36It must sink in.
01:37Numbers are numbers.
01:37All right.
01:38Let's go to- you got anything to add before I go to the calls?
01:41No.
01:41Just- I told you my answer would be the red zone inefficiency.
01:48Alamo and Richmond.
01:50Get us going.
01:51But I'll tell you what.
01:52I reserve the right to hang up on people if I don't think that they're-
01:56Yeah.
01:57So if you say injuries, you're done, Alamo.
02:00I'm just kidding.
02:02Hey, what's going on, fellas?
02:03Hey.
02:03Just a plethora of things, man.
02:05Yep.
02:05And we'll talk about- way before the season even started.
02:09Like, let's talk about the camp, man.
02:11We didn't even get out this night there.
02:14A lot of guys, of course, weren't there holding out, et cetera, et cetera.
02:18So when you think about maybe just one thing, you got to come up with a bevy of things.
02:24Yeah.
02:25B.B. King- B.B. King once said, the thrill is gone.
02:28Oh, that's a four.
02:28And I think- I'm just going to be honest with you, man.
02:32I like to keep it a buck with y'all, man.
02:34I'm not going to sugarcoat it, put the two on the ten.
02:35I'm going to tell you exactly what it is.
02:37We've lost our motif.
02:39Our teams have figured us out.
02:41We come in with this expectation that we the big bully on the block, and we got chipped.
02:46And everybody see us, man.
02:47Everybody see us for what we are.
02:49The chickens have come home to roost, guys.
02:50I mean, let's just face the fact.
02:52Let's just fake the music.
02:53And let's just be real with each other.
02:55Hey, Alamo- Five and seven is not-
02:57Yeah, go ahead.
02:58Real quick, you know what my favorite B.B. King song is?
03:03Back in L.A.
03:06You ever hear that one?
03:07Back in L.A.?
03:08No, I'm a little younger than that.
03:09Back in L.A.
03:11You got me thinking the thrill is gone.
03:13But yeah, Back in L.A.
03:14Check it out.
03:15It's a great B.B. King song.
03:18He's too old.
03:19No, no, no, he's not.
03:21Is he there?
03:22Uh, we lost him.
03:23Uh, yeah, we lost him.
03:24But, uh, Alamo.
03:26Man.
03:26Back in L.A.
03:27He said the thrill is gone.
03:30Yeah, that's, you know, that's the big one that everybody knows.
03:33I like to go deep into albums, though.
03:35Not, like, scratch the surface.
03:37You big Bobby Blue Bland fan.
03:39That's Norah's favorite.
03:40Bobby Blue Bland.
03:41Yeah.
03:42Evan ain't heard of him.
03:44He was a, uh, he was one of the people that Van Morrison was very much influenced by.
03:49Mm-hmm.
03:50So, yes, I'm very familiar with him.
03:52I'm fascinated at the songwriters that don't have the skill to go sing it.
03:57Like, I wouldn't want to write you a number one hit.
04:00I write it, but you don't get the credit for it.
04:03I, I don't, I just have to go out there and do it myself.
04:06Back in L.A.
04:08No, Tupac's got to live and die in L.A.
04:10No, this is different.
04:11To live and die in L.A.
04:14All right.
04:14You in a good mood today.
04:20You don't know that.
04:21I, yesterday was bad.
04:22I'll switch on you in a second.
04:23I got a lot of calls and texts about you yesterday, but it was, you were just, you, you can't,
04:28you're a Spider-Man.
04:28You had venom.
04:29You were just shooting it.
04:31I talked to Nahid about it.
04:34You and the boss getting close, huh?
04:35I talked to him about what happened, and he said, you know what, it's not any understandable.
04:38What happened?
04:40You raised your voice at me.
04:41Called me dumb.
04:42Okay.
04:43You remember, called me dumb.
04:47Dude, my phone blew up.
04:48I said, I still love him.
04:50That's my guy.
04:52I guess the thing that bothers me most about you, if I had to pinpoint the one thing about
04:57you, it's, you tend to gaslight.
05:02That's one of the words my kids are used to.
05:04Yeah, you do it.
05:05You gaslight.
05:07No, you were.
05:08No, you gaslight.
05:08You asked me a question and getting mad at my answer.
05:12I've never met anybody.
05:14Hey, you bring you in.
05:16Hey, come here.
05:17It didn't slap the hell out of somebody when they don't say what you want to hear.
05:21All I was saying yesterday was I would not have my prize linebacker with a fractured ankle
05:28playing.
05:28And then I'm driving in this morning, like Stiney made it feel like I was saying they
05:32have no chance.
05:33Stiney made me do it, mommy.
05:37Mommy, Matt Steinmetz made me do it.
05:41Oh, I'm a good person, but he was the devil on my shoulder.
05:47Not to you.
05:47Let's go to Wendy in Castro Valley.
05:50Hey, Wendy, what's going on?
05:55Hey, bad start.
05:56Hey, Wendy.
05:57Hey.
05:58Hey, how you doing?
05:59Doing well.
06:00Don't say coaching.
06:01Thanks for having me.
06:03Yeah.
06:05I'm sorry, but I I'm going to put this on the coaching staff.
06:08OK, I from game two, like, hey, Shanahan stubborn.
06:14He wants to play the way he wants to play.
06:17And they have made they're not adapting.
06:19They don't have too many people injured and they're just not adapting.
06:23They're so predictable.
06:24I can sit on my couch and I can say, OK, it's going to run McCaffrey first down, second
06:29down out for nine.
06:31And we have no receivers except for Jennings.
06:34Generally, yeah, but he's technically a tight end.
06:36We don't have anybody that can get out there.
06:38So who's he going to throw it?
06:40But there's no changes.
06:41It's just over and over again.
06:43And I'm thinking, oh, my God, come on defense.
06:47Same thing.
06:48Let's just play zone all the time and get beat time and rush forward.
06:54Not all the time.
06:55Ninety percent of the time when you're third and 13, you can stop them and you're still
06:59rushing for.
07:00I don't understand why they're not adapting and changing.
07:05I don't get it.
07:06I think it's not fair.
07:08And the players, I'm sure, are probably thinking the same thing.
07:11It's like they're not changing anything.
07:12Well, let me let me just throw this at you, Wendy, real quick.
07:15Is that a year?
07:16Is that is that a twenty twenty four problem?
07:18Is that or is you think that could be a problem moving forward?
07:23I think it's right now it's a huge problem.
07:26I mean, Kenny has always been stubborn, right?
07:28He doesn't like it.
07:29He's a creative genius.
07:31But when he gets his mindset, he doesn't adapt.
07:35We had we had McCaffrey back and we had Mason and he's just running McCaffrey.
07:42Why not put you back?
07:43Yeah.
07:44And, you know, run something a little different.
07:47I don't understand the stuck in the mud situation.
07:50And I think if he hasn't changed now or the defense hasn't changed now, I don't see moving
07:58forward if they're going to make any changes.
08:00I don't get it.
08:01I just don't get it.
08:02Which causes unrest in the locker room, because, you know, if you're not getting leadership
08:07from above and not making the changes, I'll give you one classic example on defense that
08:13goes out.
08:13Seattle runs down easily and they're continuing to rush forward with somebody who's not even
08:19as good as Bosa.
08:20So why don't we help him out a little bit?
08:22Yeah, maybe rush five on one of the downs.
08:25It's a good point.
08:25Yes, Wendy.
08:26Yeah, they scored two touchdowns when Bosa was gone, by the way, coming up at 11 o'clock,
08:31Ross Tucker, NFL Odyssey insider from Berks County, Pennsylvania.
08:37Local boy made good.
08:38Yeah, my local boy made better than me.
08:42And I'll tell you what to ask him what he makes now.
08:45I bet he makes a lot.
08:46He won't tell you.
08:47I know he's got like seven jobs.
08:49And he's doing the matching to the mat.
08:50You don't have to ask Tuesday, Wednesday night.
08:52He was doing Miami, Ohio and Bowling Green last week.
08:56We talked to him every other week.
08:57But I would tell Wendy those not Britain, you know, not Blitzen is not on Kyle.
09:02It's on Sorenson.
09:04And we got some sound that's disturbing for me.
09:07Oh, let's take a listen.
09:08Here we go.
09:09This is very satisfied with Nick.
09:10I mean, I'm not at all satisfied with the results and how it's going right now.
09:13But, you know, some of the mistakes that we've made, I don't think what's happened here in
09:16these last two weeks.
09:17I don't think that's a schematic issue.
09:19It's a little bit more of a fundamental issue.
09:21And that also starts with me.
09:23That goes to all coaching and it goes down to the players.
09:25It goes to everyone in this building.
09:26So, you know, the results of these last two weeks haven't changed my opinion on Nick.
09:30Do me a favor and ask me, why does that bother you, Goo?
09:35Why would that bother you, Goo?
09:37Because he's given the benefit of the doubt to one Nick Sorenson.
09:41I'm not hating.
09:42It's called loyalty.
09:43That Wilks did not get.
09:45How can you like what this unit's done from day one, Donnie, to me?
09:49Well, they've been hurt.
09:50See, I'm not.
09:51Oh, no, no green law.
09:53How many people, I mean, non-coaches have called and said, why don't they bring Blitz
09:59Moore, Nick?
09:59That's not who they are.
10:01Let's listen to this one more time.
10:03Yeah, I'm very satisfied with Nick.
10:05I mean, I'm not at all satisfied with the results and how it's going right now.
10:08But, you know, some of the mistakes that we've made, I don't think what's happened here in
10:11these last two weeks.
10:12I don't think that's a schematic issue.
10:14It's a little bit more of a fundamental issue.
10:16And that also starts with me.
10:17That goes to all coaching and it goes down to the players.
10:19It goes to everyone in this building.
10:21So, you know, the results of these last two weeks haven't changed my opinion on Nick.
10:25So I'm known for my responsibility.
10:27I am known for my great analogies.
10:29Here's another one.
10:31Hey, Daryl, we like you so much, we're not going to even look at the F you got on your
10:35test.
10:36We like you so much.
10:37Keep doing it.
10:38Keep up the good work.
10:39But this 56 you got on the test, don't even worry about it, bud.
10:43We like you.
10:45That's what that was.
10:47How can you like what's not up to par?
10:50I heard him take responsibility that it's on the coaches, me.
10:54So are you telling me he muttered it?
10:55But I know we're going to get calls, but nobody liked it.
10:58It was uncomfortable.
10:59But can you understand how some a Niner fan could look back and say, why wouldn't Wilkes
11:06afforded that luxury of getting the benefit of the doubt?
11:09And he was the best performing unit in the Super Bowl.
11:12Oh, just so by the way, if that interests you at all, they played 18 games.
11:18They played 18 games.
11:19So that's great that one game.
11:21They were the best unit he's got.
11:23He's got Nick's back.
11:24He didn't have exactly exactly.
11:27I mean, I don't know what to make of that, except the guy sticking up for his coaching
11:30staff.
11:31He said very he said he's very happy, very satisfied.
11:37He's sated is what he is.
11:39Ross Tucker half hour.
11:41Let's go to Will and Marin.
11:43Will, what are you singling out about this team?
11:46That's been the most frustrating.
11:49Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call.
11:50I apologize if the acoustics are poor.
11:52I'm underneath the house right now doing an inspection.
11:55But the one thing that I will say is I just I agree with.
11:59I agree with Evan.
12:00It's the edge, but it's also the lack of like just urgency on defense and just the lack
12:06of the next man up mentality.
12:07Like you look at a lot of teams and it's like, I agree, Sonny, like the injury excuse is
12:12garbage.
12:13Everybody in the NFL, even the teams in first place in the division, everybody's hurt right
12:17now.
12:17And you know what the difference is, is that all those teams are successful because they
12:21have the next man up mentality.
12:22I get it.
12:23When you have players that are only as good as they are, you're probably only going to
12:26perform as good as, you know, they can, you know, that they can kind of output.
12:29But I just it just seems like there's just a lack of effort around everywhere.
12:32And it just seems that there's just been kind of like a little, I don't know, a little
12:36stigma of selfishness.
12:37It's all about getting me, me, me, me, me.
12:39And instead of having to, you know, it just seems that there was a big goal for a championship
12:43season, but everybody was worried about getting theirs.
12:45And then just the under more just the underwhelming performance of the stars has been has been
12:52atrocious.
12:53It's been it's been very, very difficult to watch.
12:56But, you know, it is what it is.
12:58That's why they say in the NFL, your windows are very, very, very, you know, they're very
13:02they're open, very tiny.
13:03And I just I think that they're going to have to rebuild.
13:05And the Niners probably aren't going to be good for a while.
13:07They're just kind of backward, back at that area.
13:09So thanks, guys.
13:10I appreciate the call.
13:11That's right there.
13:12But yeah, I'm just saying it's a possibility.
13:14How about that?
13:15It's on the bingo card.
13:16Well, if they're not, well, then, OK, if if they come back next year with essentially
13:20the same team and they're bad again, then will people admit this team talent level wasn't
13:27as good as they thought?
13:28Yeah.
13:28And this iteration of what they built has come to an end.
13:32It's come to a head.
13:33Yeah.
13:35Eight, eight, eight, nine, five, seven, nine, five, seven, zero is the number.
13:39Like I said, I got a text from the boss today at 642 a.m.
13:43And I was just getting done with my five mile run.
13:48And he asked me, walk or run?
13:52Run.
13:52A big run.
13:53It was a big run today.
13:54It was a big run.
13:56He said, if you had to pinpoint one thing, Stiney, and one thing only that makes you
14:00mad or disappoint you about this season, what would it be?
14:03I said, I feel like the biggest disappointment is they lost sight of their common goal.
14:09I don't want to say selfish.
14:11I think that's a little strong.
14:13But the focus wasn't all in from everybody from day one to try to get it done.
14:20So you're saying disease of me?
14:22Because it's got to be selfish.
14:23Should I use disease of me?
14:25No, that's what it sounds like you're describing.
14:27I say selfish is a strong word.
14:28You know why?
14:29You know why I'm taking selfish back?
14:31Because I do think it's unfair to say, like, Trent Williams is selfish.
14:35Now that we know everything that's going on.
14:37But now I can say, but now maybe you can't say is, man, look at those two guys.
14:43Heck, put Pearsall in there.
14:44Ward, Pearsall, Trent Williams.
14:47Real life stuff.
14:48Maybe they just haven't recovered.
14:51Exactly.
14:52And that's those three.
14:54And then, you know, Brock Purdy maybe felt the pressure of this contract just looming.
15:02Maybe that's part of it.
15:03And McCaffrey was never right in the first place other than the paycheck that he started to get.
15:09Hmm.
15:10I just I don't think I don't think they were just together as they've been in the past.
15:14And just I think it's kind of naturally coming to an end.
15:18I'll tell you what.
15:19I hope you're wrong about the Brock Purdy part, because if they try to play hardball,
15:23Stani, and and have them play at play next year out, do you think that's going to be
15:28less pressure for Brock if he's kind of feeling it this year?
15:31I don't like you're getting closer now.
15:34So it's actually an interesting question, because if you're telling me that the Niners
15:39are going to ask Brock Purdy to come back and play for a million dollars,
15:44then if I were Brock Purdy, I would hold out.
15:47And now we're in another situation.
15:49Like, I feel like you would have the leverage if you're Brock.
15:52But if it came to that.
15:53But what about the wandering eye?
15:55If I believe Kirk Cousins, Stani would not be an Atlanta Falcon.
15:59And who knows with Sam Darnold?
16:01I'm just throwing that out there.
16:02And if you guys are right that have brought that up, I mean, it would be game on almost.
16:10If Brock Purdy is not the starting quarterback next year and it's Darnold or Kirk Cousins,
16:15I don't know that they're any better or any worse than they have been.
16:18But they would feel better about what they're paying the quarterback, though.
16:21They wouldn't feel like, you know, we're giving 60 million to something we don't
16:25we really don't know what he is.
16:27How much is that worth?
16:28Peace of mind, I guess, Stani.
16:30Well, the other thing is, I don't know.
16:33Sam Darnold is playing a great year.
16:36There's a chance somebody may pay him big money for multiple years.
16:41Maybe if they think he's the answer.
16:43McCarthy coming back.
16:45Let's go to Dennis in San Francisco.
16:48Hey, Dennis, how you doing?
16:50What's going on?
16:52Morning, guys.
16:53Yeah, it's like for me, you know, it's hard to criticize Shanahan because of his success.
17:02But it's also hard not to criticize him for, you know, the negative things that he's done.
17:08You know, I don't I don't think he's much of an evaluator of talent.
17:14I mean, you know, you can look at their drafting at the top of the draft, you know,
17:19glaring right in your face, you know, and the biggest one was Trey Lance.
17:23We've got no depth.
17:24We we've missed three first rounders and a third rounder for Trey Lance, you know,
17:29and that's been a big effect on this team.
17:33And and his is why I said this before.
17:37I said it last season.
17:38I was surprised how well the offensive line played last year,
17:43because, you know, I don't think much of McKibbit or Brendel.
17:47And, you know, and they didn't.
17:53Oh, he lost him.
17:55No, I mean, Dennis was a guy who was talking about the offensive line before the season.
18:01A lot of a lot of a lot of fans are talking about the O-line and the D-line.
18:06Yeah, in there.
18:08Let's and you can't go here because my whole thing is and you were kind of painting me
18:14into a corner yesterday.
18:16Here we go.
18:17Yes, keep bringing it up.
18:18Yes, but I can criticize Kyle and I don't want him fired.
18:23That's the easy way.
18:24That's the easy thing to do to rip him.
18:26But say, well, we can't fire him because then you get to rip him.
18:28But then you get to rip him forever.
18:31No, that's fine.
18:32He goes, it's fine.
18:33No, I get it.
18:35I get it.
18:36You can just rip with no consequence.
18:38It's funny.
18:41So sinister.
18:42What do you mean?
18:43It's fun.
18:44Kyle Shanahan absolutely is fair game to be criticized about his play calling.
18:49Yeah, more than that.
18:51Well, more than that.
18:54Kyle Shanahan, can you elaborate on this team not being last year's team?
18:59You said that a couple of days ago.
19:01What do you mean?
19:02The thing I got asked is, does this team not have the same fight as last year's team?
19:05And, you know, everything goes to the team the year before.
19:08And I was just trying to imply this isn't last year's team.
19:11And so if you want a reason for why our record isn't as good as last year's and when it's
19:18about fighting and stuff, that's, you know, I kind of, I don't see it at all that way.
19:22I was making the point that this isn't last year's team.
19:25Last year's team was obviously a better team.
19:28I'm not saying just from the roster.
19:29I'm just saying from the beginning to end, the way we started out, the way we felt in
19:33training camp throughout the whole year, we've been trying to build that with this team.
19:39We've had times where we felt that we were on the right path to it.
19:44And then we've had some setbacks that I think it's always been one step forward,
19:48two steps back.
19:48And we really haven't had the, we really haven't grasped the full potential of this year's team.
19:53And that's why I don't like comparing it to last year's team or the year before.
19:57I mean, that's the closest I've heard Kyle Shanahan to saying,
20:01yeah, this thing was off the rails, man, very, very early.
20:04I can't be mad at anybody that would come to that conclusion after that.
20:07He clearly, and that's kind of what I was saying all along.
20:12You want to party?
20:13Not a party.
20:15They just go to, you know, just take care of me one day.
20:19Good for you.
20:22Yearning for the glory.
20:23By the way, great movie, Gladiator 2.
20:26It's not the best movie of all time.
20:28And I don't have to see it to know it.
20:30To me, it is.
20:31It's my grade.
20:33I left the studio yesterday, solo, in reveal, watched it again, Spadoni, get a life.
20:39Russell Crowe was better than Denzel.
20:42Well, they were two, you know, Gladiator 1 is better than Gladiator 2.
20:46Gladiator 2.
20:47Oh my, and the correlation that they had with Gladiator 1, it was perfect.
20:53Oh my gosh.
20:53Spadon wasn't crazy about it.
20:54And I consider him more of a film connoisseur than you.
20:59The Italian Stallion did, you loved it.
21:03You loved it.
21:04He says it was okay.
21:05And I'm saying it's the best movie ever.
21:07Spadon, how was Gladiator 2?
21:08I didn't talk to him before the show.
21:09I loved it.
21:09What did you like?
21:10Should I go check it out?
21:11Spadon?
21:13It felt very, as Stiney would say, contrived.
21:16Oh boy, that's the worst thing a movie can be.
21:20Worst thing a movie can be.
21:21Oh boy.
21:22It sounds like it's maybe a bad movie.
21:25No, it was great, man.
