00:06A Lancaster school and nursery was put on lockdown after a man hid from police in their
00:10car park. Willow Lane Community Primary School said on their Facebook page that they had
00:16initiated their lockdown procedures for children and staff on Thursday afternoon after being
00:21made aware that a man had absconded from police and was hiding in the school car park. A 32-year-old
00:28man was later arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and making threats to kill
00:33after an early incident elsewhere in Lancaster.
00:38Highways bosses are drawing up plans to improve the safety of a busy route between Preston
00:42and Lancaster. More than £4.5 million is set to be spent on a series of measures to
00:49be implemented along the A6. Changes include upgraded facilities for cyclists and pedestrians
00:56as well as new traffic lights. The improvements cover the stretch of the route between Broughton
01:01on the outskirts of Preston and the point at which the road meets the M6 just south
01:06of Golgate.
01:10Fishing equipment was stolen from a cyclist after he was hit by a car near Norbrek Castle.
01:16Police were called to reports of a collision on the prom by the stickway near Norbrek Castle
01:21on Monday. A man was cycling in the area when a black estate-type vehicle hit him from
01:26behind between 6.20am and 6.30am. Some fishing equipment was then stolen from the man. He
01:35was taken to hospital following the incident. An investigation is ongoing to trace the car
01:41and its occupants.
01:42The £6.6 million transformation of Wigan Town Centre has reached an important phase
01:49and the local authority is encouraging everyone to have their say.
01:54The council is calling for residents, businesses, shoppers, visitors and all in the local community
02:00to share their feedback on a range of proposals for the historic market square and area around
02:06Garswood Street and Gerrard Street in Ashton. This includes types of markets, suggested
02:12entertainment and events, seating and public art. Drop-in sessions are being held along
02:20with the online survey.
02:23A motorist was taken to hospital after his car flipped on its side on a country road
02:28near Burnley. The accident happened shortly before 10.30pm on Sunday on Burnley Road,
02:34Cliffiger. The driver, a man in his 20s from Burnley, was taken to hospital with head and
02:40pelvic injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening.
02:46As for the weather, it will be clouding rather breezy with patchy rain turning heavier overnight.
02:52The maximum temperature will be 14 degrees centigrade.
