00:06 Warning letters are on the way to hundreds of drivers in Preston after they were caught
00:10 on camera using the city's latest bus only stretch of road on its first day in operation.
00:17 Cameras were switched on yesterday to monitor the new restrictions on Corporation Street
00:21 between junctions with Marsh Lane and Heatley Street. Only buses, bicycles and hackney taxis,
00:27 not private hire vehicles, are allowed to pass through the so-called bus gate which
00:32 will be in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
00:36 The owner of popular Italian restaurant Rico's in Poulton has decided to step down from the
00:41 business after 35 years. Rico La Mara has hung up his apron after deciding to retire
00:46 from the restaurant which he opened in 1989 and established as one of the town's top
00:51 eateries. Long-serving staff member Paolo Leparco, who has himself been at Rico's for
00:56 24 years, will take over the reins.
00:59 Tributes have been pouring in after the death of a teacher in Wigan with a passion for education
01:04 who taught thousands of pupils at a local high school. Graham Naylor, who worked at
01:09 Standish Community High School for 16 years, died on April 18th aged 73. A statement from
01:16 Standish High said "Graham's passion for education, his ability to inspire students,
01:21 his kindness and generosity were truly remarkable." Graham is survived by his wife Judith and
01:27 son Rob.
01:30 In Burnley, the historic Kirby Hotel site has been purchased for an ambitious redevelopment
01:35 project that promises to revitalise the town and restore its legacy. The current dilapidated
01:41 site is set to be completely transformed, paving the way for a state-of-the-art hotel
01:47 and leisure complex, with the project spearheaded by a Mr Hagan, a prominent global cinema software
01:53 company owner and a Burnley native.
01:56 A Lancaster secondary school and sixth form college has been told that it requires improvement
02:00 by Ofsted for the second time in a row. Our Ladies Catholic College on Markham Road in
02:06 Lancaster was inspected by Ofsted between March 26th and March 27th of this year and
02:11 was rated as requires improvement in a report published on May 20th. The college, which
02:17 has 1,031 pupils on its roll, was told that its quality of education was specifically
02:24 classed as requires improvement.
02:26 Onto the weather now and the Met Office is forecasting more cloudy and damp days for
02:30 most across the North West, with the rain generally lighter than Wednesday and temperatures
02:35 staying cool at around 12 degrees. Into the evening, conditions are set to remain pretty
02:39 grey and wet as winds ease overnight.
