Weekend weather - Drier and warmer but will it last? 20/06/19
Some fine weather on the way this weekend and it'll be turning warmer too. Sunday could see a change with more cloud in the west and then the rising temperatures and humidity could create thunderstorms later. Alex Deakin has the latest.

00:03If you've been after some warm and
00:05sunny weather this June,
00:07well, you may be in luck.
00:08Our weather is changing.
00:10It could get pretty hot next week.
00:12But for the time being, it's all
00:14about things just warming up a
00:15touch. And perhaps the most
00:17important factor, it's been a very
00:19wet June.
00:20So something a bit drier for the
00:21weekend and many of us will finally
00:24see some sunny spells.
00:25What's going on?
00:26Well, we've replaced low pressure
00:28with high pressure.
00:29This is what we've been missing.
00:30It's moving in through Friday,
00:32calming the weather down.
00:33And this high promises the vast
00:35majority a fine day on
00:37Saturday.
00:38Under clear skies, it will be a bit
00:40of a chilly start, perhaps.
00:41But most places, as I say, will
00:43start off with some sunshine.
00:45There's the possibility of one or
00:46two showers across northwest
00:48Scotland, particularly over the
00:49Northern Isles. But for most, it's
00:51dry. It's fine.
00:52Some cloud will bubble up through
00:53the day, but it's a classic
00:55summer's day, if you like.
00:57Maybe a bit of a breeze blowing
00:58across the southwest and
01:00the coasts will be a little bit
01:01cooler. But inland, some
01:03warmth, certainly compared to
01:04recent days, more widely
01:06see temperatures getting into the
01:08low 20s.
01:09As I said, the coast, perhaps a
01:10little bit cooler.
01:11UV levels are likely to be high
01:14in many areas, though.
01:15So just take note of that.
01:16It's been a while since we've seen
01:17any sunshine.
01:18So make sure you apply the
01:20sunscreen.
01:20Pollen levels could also be high
01:22or very high across some parts of
01:24the country.
01:25How long will it last?
01:26Well, the high tries to hang on,
01:27but notice low pressure is
01:29just edging in.
01:30And I do mean edging in as we go
01:32into Sunday. Some uncertainty
01:33about the timing of this
01:35weather, for instance, when it
01:36brings cloud and rain.
01:37But certainly a cloudier day, it
01:39looks like on Sunday for Northern
01:40Ireland, Wales and southwest
01:42England, with the threat of
01:43showers. But for the Midlands,
01:44eastern Northern England, most of
01:46Scotland, looking like another
01:47mostly dry, bright day.
01:49The sunshine will turn more hazy.
01:51And as you can see, there is the
01:52risk of some showers breaking
01:54out further east as we go
01:56through the day.
01:57And that's the big question mark
01:58because temperatures are going to
01:59be rising.
02:00The heat and humidity is
02:02getting turned up through the
02:03weekend. So with some sunshine
02:05more widely into the 20s on
02:07Sunday and perhaps even
02:09a little bit higher than that, of
02:10course, parts of the southeast,
02:12maybe the high 20s, something we
02:13haven't seen for quite some time.
02:15But that heat and humidity does
02:17then bring the threat of some
02:19thunderstorms.
02:20And we do, in fact, already have a
02:21warning out for Sunday and into
02:23Monday. The risk of some
02:24torrential downpours is the heat
02:26and humidity could spark some big
02:28thunderstorms, especially so on
02:30Sunday night and into Monday.
02:32Next week, we could see more of
02:33these and we could see those
02:35temperatures rising even
02:37further.
02:38There's a lot going on with the
