00:00This is Iron Rebellion by Black Beach Studio, about the game. Here's a unique
00:18game that I just had to cover when I discovered it. It's multiplayer based and
00:23when I played there was about four other people online and the rest is filled by
00:28bots. There are so many maps and currently three game modes to choose
00:33from. Now it is advised that you sit in the chair and play this game and I can't
00:38agree more. It really does add to the immersion of it. Playing the tutorial is
00:42one of the only tutorials that I have really enjoyed. It was exciting and when
00:48you boot up your mech and see outside for the first time it just looks
00:52stunning. It will take just about five to ten minutes to complete this tutorial. So
00:57then getting into the game. You're going to pick your mech, then pick your weapons
01:02and then pick which orgs to use. They are just like perks. Then off you go into
01:08battle. Game menus. The menus are good. Can be a little overwhelming to start. Maybe
01:14because there are menus at the home screen, then also attached to your left
01:18arm and also in the mech. But you will soon get used to them. You are first
01:24greeted with a menu at your home screen that offers play game, choose loadout, the
01:30tutorial and social media where that offers the roadmap and their discord. Now
01:37the map on your left wrist, which I seem to have missed at first, this offers you
01:42re-centering, score, players in the team, options and quit options. Then there's
01:49the menu in the mech where you can pick which mech you want, which guns you want
01:54and the orgs that you use. Levels and size. There are 12 maps so far and what looks to
02:02be at least another 12 maps that are currently being worked on. The maps are
02:07all of a decent size. Some larger than others, but they all look really good and
02:13they're quite good in variation too. Controls. Controls will take some time to
02:18get used to. Left stick is to move the mech and then right controller to turn it.
02:25But where you keep the left arm still, you actually have to move your arm left
02:30and right to turn the mech. It's not as bad as it might sound. Then you use the
02:35right stick to select right or left weapon or push up to select both weapons.
02:41Mechanics. Just about everything is great in this game, considering how much is in
02:47here. Everything looks fantastic. The mechs move great. There are so many
02:52switches inside that mech and targeting, dodging, picking stuff up works great.
02:58Though my game did crash three times in five hours I played for, the AI seems
03:04pretty good. Some better than others, which is exactly what you would expect.
03:09Playable mechs. There is a choice of six mechs. Some will be heavier, larger and
03:15take more damage, but are slow to move. And others will be light, smaller and
03:20fast, but easier to damage. Each mech has a description that you can read up on
03:26and then decide which suits your playing style. All the mechs are well designed.
03:31They look great outside, but inside is just outstanding. All the controls you
03:37get to interact with and all the view and movements. My only wish is that maybe
03:43they could have changed the colours or something, or make the glass supports
03:46different, as every mech looks the same. Add some choices of things you could
03:52hang, like the old fluffy dice. I get not to change your controls because that
03:57could get very confusing. Weapons. There are so many guns to pick from for your
04:03mech and you can select a different gun for each side. There is a choice from
04:08about 12 guns, I think depending on which mech you pick. There is also a
04:13choice of 16 perks and you can assign three perks to your mech. Things like
04:18store more ammo or faster repair times. When you are out in battle, you will use
04:24a lever that's positioned between your legs. Hey, easy target. You will use this
04:29lever to pick up ammo or repair boxes. Customisation options. There is currently
04:36a choice of 6 mechs, 11 guns and 16 perks, but no offerings to customise your mech.
04:42Online playability. There are four modes to pick from. Data Breach, Conquest, Team
04:50Deathmatch and Uplink, which isn't available just yet. Data Breach just
04:56involves running around the map and capturing control points. They pop up one
05:01at a time. As you capture them, your score goes up. The first team to reach a
05:06certain score wins. Then there's Conquest. It's just the standard capture A, B and C
05:14control points and once captured, your enemy's score will start going down from
05:19400 points. First to zero loses. Then there's Team Deathmatch. No explanation
05:26needed, I think, but just in case you have been living under a rock, it's the first
05:30team to kill as many of the opposite side's mechs to reach a certain score.
05:35Then you win. Now I will say, and it's a huge issue, that the comms volumes could
05:42do with being worked on. It was almost impossible for me to hear any of my
05:47teammates talking and they all had the same complaint about the game too. I do
05:52like though how you have switches to select if you want to hear just your
05:56teammates or everyone, and then turn your mic on and off and also mute or
06:02unmute everyone, all from the comfort of your mech's cockpit. My thoughts. Now every
06:10time you watch something in 2D, you can just never get the real experience and
06:14believe me when I say you have to experience this game in VR to really
06:19appreciate it. I think whilst there is a big choice of weapons, I'm not really
06:24sure of the stats of each gun, like if a certain gun is more effective against a
06:29certain mech. So it kind of seems pointless, all these guns, because you
06:33end up just choosing one or maybe two guns that you like and you stick to them.
06:38So it would be nice if the gun system was explained a bit better, or even if
06:43each mech has one or two special weapons unique to it only, and maybe also if it
06:50has some unique perks. I would also like to see some choices for colours of your
06:55mech, maybe camouflage designs, stickers, numbers, something where you can be
07:01uniquely identified out on the battlefield. This could be done in the
07:05way of collectibles, rewards for reaching so many kills, or reaching an amount of
07:10games played. Now my biggest thing with this game is, I really wish it had a
07:16campaign mode, because that would just bring it to a whole other level,
07:21especially if it could have the choice to be in a single player or a co-op mode.
07:2612 levels to blast your way through, giving some sort of story, even adding
07:32aliens or creatures of some sort, instead of taking a chance on the whole game to
07:37see if it will get a better player base. Because whilst you can select to fight
07:42against AI bots, it gets a bit boring after a while, and let's face it, if a
07:47game doesn't get a player base, then it's failed. So a campaign story is much
07:53needed. Anyway, I did really enjoy this game a lot more than I expected to, but
07:59can I see myself playing it more? For me personally, as much fun as I had, I will
08:06probably play a few more games just to see all the maps, but I think without a
08:11campaign or some sort of reward or collectible system, I just don't see
08:16myself returning to it. So on that, I mark Iron Rebellion an 8 out of 8 stars.
08:24So I hope you enjoyed this review. Now if you have any ideas for this game, drop
