The afternoon is dry but quite chilly for most, feeling even colder thanks to a brisk northerly wind. The northerly wind will bring some showers throughout the UK, but there will be more widespread in Scotland and Northern Ireland. In the evening and heading into the night the skies clear and the showers generally ease, but in Wales the showers become more frequent in the evening.

00:00Hello, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office. If you're watching on
00:03YouTube don't forget to hit subscribe. The heavy rain that's affected much of
00:08England and Wales over the past couple of days is now easing. It's going to be a
00:11much drier day on Friday but lurking behind me there are more weather systems
00:16they'll be coming in later on Sunday. In between them you can see we've got a bit
00:22of a gap, a bit of a respite and many of us will be much drier for the next 48
00:26hours. The rain bands that have brought the flooding are now pulling away down
00:31towards the southeast clearing away on Friday morning and the sunnier skies are
00:36following but so are the northerly winds bringing a significant chill. Quite a
00:40brisk wind blowing along these North Sea coast and across northern Scotland.
00:43Plenty of showers packing in here but a snow likely over the tops of the
00:47mountains as well. A scattering of showers coming into Northern Ireland
00:50some feeding into West Wales, southwest England and the odd one over central
00:55areas but they're moving through because of the breeze and many places will stay
00:58dry this afternoon with some decent spars of sunshine. It is going to be a
01:02struggle on the thermometer getting much above 13 or 14 degrees. Some parts of
01:06northern Scotland staying in single digits. We might just squeak up to 15 or
01:1116 in the south but generally speaking we are well below the average for the
01:15time of year by three to six degrees Celsius. So yes it is quite chilly. It
01:20feels even colder with those winds blowing along North Sea coast and when
01:24the showers come along. Now both the winds and the showers should tend to
01:28ease overnight. We'll keep some going across Pembrokeshire down towards Devon
01:32and Cornwall and a bit more in the way of cloud will push back into northwest
01:35Scotland with some outbreaks of rain coming towards the Highlands and the
01:38Western Isles by dawn. That'll actually help to keep the temperatures up here
01:42but elsewhere we've got the cold air in place, we've got lighter winds, clear
01:45skies and it's going to be a chilly start to the weekend. Down to three or
01:49four Celsius. That's in towns and cities. Many rural spots will be pretty close to
01:54freezing. So yes a cold start to Saturday but we should see quite a bit
01:57of sunshine over the Midlands, Northern England, East Anglia and the southeast.
02:01Still maybe one or two showers just affecting North Norfolk for a time. Quite
02:05a lot of cloud across Scotland tomorrow. There will be some outbreaks of rain
02:08drifting through the central belt and then we're left with rain at times over
02:12northern Scotland. Some showers on the west coast. A few scattered showers for
02:16Northern Ireland. Clouding over somewhat for Northern England and Wales but a
02:19good chunk of England and Wales will have a dry day and over the East Midlands
02:23East Anglia and the southeast generally a sunny Saturday. Temperatures will still
02:29be below average struggling to get to 14 or 15 Celsius but those winds will be
02:33lighter. So in the sunshine it'll probably feel quite pleasant but there
02:37will be more clouds across Scotland tomorrow compared to today and still
02:42some outbreaks of rain affecting particularly northern parts as we head
02:46into Saturday evening. One or two showers across northwest England, west
02:50coast of Scotland but for many it'll be a dry and a fine Saturday evening. But
02:54again if I just head out of the way look at what's brewing down towards the
02:58southwest. We have next weather system coming in. An area of low pressure that's
03:03going to bring some wet and windy weather by the time we get to Sunday.
03:06Pushing away our area of high pressure. That high will still be just about in
03:10place for Sunday morning bringing many places a fine start. A few showers over
03:15northern Scotland but here comes the wet weather into southwest England, south
03:19Wales before lunchtime. It's going to be a bit fragmented in places early on but
03:24then turn more persistent come the afternoon eventually spreading up
03:27towards Northern Ireland. We have a wind warning across parts of the coast of
03:32southwest England, south and west Wales. Those gusts could get pretty lively
03:38as we head through the second half of Sunday especially giving potentially
03:42some disruption. Of course any extra rain falling on the flooded areas won't be
03:46welcomed either but a good part of eastern England, northern England, much of
03:50Scotland will be dry for most of daylight on Sunday but still on the
03:55chilly side and feeling colder as the wind and the rain arrives and it will
03:59spread to many areas as we go through Sunday night. So that's something we need
04:02to keep a close eye on. Please do keep up to date with all of the Met Office
04:06warnings and the flood warnings which you can see on the Environment Agency
04:11website. As I said at the start if you're watching on YouTube do hit subscribe.
