A dry and bright start for most of England and Wales but in Scotland it is generally cloudy with rain up north. As the day progresses into the afternoon cloud extends from the north and west into England and Wales, bringing showers to these places. It will be a chilly day with temperatures well below average for the time of year. The sky clears up in many places heading into the evening.

00:00Morning, welcome to your weekend weather update.
00:03If you've not been outside yet, maybe in for a bit of a shock.
00:06It looks lovely and sunny for many,
00:08but it is on the chilly side.
00:10Temperatures below average for the end of September.
00:12But it is fine and bright for the vast majority
00:15across England and Wales.
00:16Steadily clouding over, though, across much of Scotland.
00:19And there is some rain in the west.
00:20Bit of showery rain getting to eastern Scotland,
00:22but I suspect much of eastern Scotland
00:24will brighten up through the day.
00:25A few scattered showers for Northern Ireland,
00:27mostly in the north.
00:28Here, too, some sunny spirals coming through.
00:31The odd shower may get into northwest England, maybe
00:33north Wales.
00:34But for most of England and Wales, it's dry and it's fine.
00:37Certainly over much of the Midlands, East Anglia,
00:39and the southeast, it'll stay fine and sunny.
00:42So good news after the torrential rain here
00:46and the flooding earlier in the week.
00:48It is on the cold side, though.
00:49Temperatures well down into single figures to start the day
00:52and just about getting into the teens.
00:54We might squeak a 15 across the southeast.
00:56Generally speaking, they're 13 or 14 Celsius.
00:59And temperatures are quite a few degrees
01:01below the September average.
01:04Going to turn pretty chilly quickly this evening, as well,
01:07under the largely clear skies.
01:08Still one or two showers filtering
01:10into northwest England, western and northern Scotland.
01:13In fact, quite a damp night across Orkney and parts
01:16of Caithness and Sutherland.
01:17But for many, it'll be a dry evening and dry nights.
01:21And again, turn a little bit chilly,
01:23with most places having fairly light winds.
01:25Perhaps not quite as cold as last night,
01:27but still in parts of eastern England
01:29will be well down to three or four degrees
01:32and lower in rural spots.
01:34A milder night further south and west,
01:36however, and that is because weather patterns are changing.
01:39We're losing the northerly winds by tomorrow
01:41and starting to get southerly winds.
01:43Strengthening southerly winds.
01:46Getting quite lively, in fact, across southwest England
01:49and south and west Wales.
01:50Along the coast, we could easily get gusts of 50 to 55 miles
01:54an hour, maybe 60 miles an hour.
01:56So we do have a Met Office yellow warning
01:58in place for the winds here.
02:00Could cause some disruption.
02:02And it's also going to turn wet across southwest England,
02:05most of Wales, parts of the Midlands.
02:07By the end of the afternoon, northwest England,
02:09northern Ireland also seeing some outbreaks of rain.
02:12For most of the day, though, eastern England
02:14and much of Scotland will be dry and fine during tomorrow.
02:18But after a sunny start, the cloud
02:20will steadily increase and the breeze strengthening as well.
02:24Temperatures are going to struggle as well.
02:25Again, at chilly start, lifting to 13 or 14 by the afternoon.
02:29Maybe 15 or 16 in the southwest.
02:31But obviously, not feeling too clever here
02:33with the wind and the rain.
02:35And that rain will become more extensive
02:38as we go through the day and into the evening.
02:40Some further heavier bursts of rain likely.
02:42And of course, any extra rain falling
02:44where we've had the flooding this week
02:46is likely to exacerbate the issue.
02:48So that's not good news as that rain sets in again
02:51over much of the Midlands and spreads
02:52into northern England, eventually
02:54into southern Scotland during Sunday evening,
02:56staying pretty wet and windy in the southwest.
02:58So a wet and windy spell to come,
03:00especially on Sunday night.
