00:00The Department of Foreign Affairs, or DFA, is urging our countrymen with relatives in
00:04Lebanon to encourage them to return to the country while they may be accustomed to crisis
00:09situations.
00:10DFA Assistant Secretary Robert Ferrer emphasized that our government can only conduct voluntary
00:17repatriation as other countries are also implementing similar measures.
00:22It is also important to take advantage of the government's voluntary repatriation program
00:26for those in Lebanon while commercial flights are still available and the situation in Beirut
00:32remains stable.
00:33He said there is no lack of budget or funds for repatriation efforts, but they can't force
00:38them to go home.
00:39Meanwhile, Ferrer stated that no Filipinos were hurt or injured despite the attack targeted
00:45at Hezbollah.
00:46So far, the areas being targeted are only southern Lebanon and Dania neighborhood in
00:55southern Beirut.
00:57We cannot force our countrymen to go home, you know.
01:01Ambassador Banatbat conducted a consultation with the community leaders in Lebanon and
01:07all of them, almost unanimous, are opposed to any mandatory repatriation by the Philippine
01:15government.
01:16Now, we're a democracy here in the Philippines.
01:19We are also a democracy abroad.
01:21They're used to the crisis there.
01:23However, we are processing more than 1,000 requests for voluntary repatriation.
01:28That's one out of ten so far.
