00:00Almost 200 Filipinos in Lebanon were targeted by Marie Patriot
00:04before the month ended according to the Department of Migrant Workers.
00:07In fact, 11 OFWs have arrived in the country this weekend.
00:13Kenneth Paciente is in the center of the news.
00:17The Department of Migrant Workers and other agencies of the government
00:23have already given up on putting overseas Filipino workers
00:25who are affected by the chaos in Lebanon.
00:28According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Kakdak,
00:31as part of the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,
00:35the use of all government resources and assets
00:38to save the OFWs from being brought home.
00:41More than anything, it's the President's concern for our OFWs.
00:47The President has always been concerned for the welfare and security safety of our OFWs.
00:53And so he deemed it the proper time to convene all of us.
00:58And find ways to heighten or strengthen our approach
01:04in terms of securing the safety and security of our OFWs.
01:07According to the agency, 11 OFWs have arrived in the country this weekend.
01:13As of now, 192 have been booked for the three separate commercial flights
01:18that are expected to depart from October 8 to 11.
01:22While 413 are still awaiting their documents.
01:27However, there are still some Filipinos who really don't want to leave Lebanon
01:31because of the fear of losing their income.
01:33But DMW insisted...
01:35We are already addressing or have addressed the matter on
01:39the loss of income that may incur if they come home.
01:44So the financial assistance that we're offering
01:47can go up as high as P150,000 between DMW and OWA upon arrival.
01:53That's good for a 4 to 6 month salary.
01:55While 179 OFWs are currently in shelters in Beirut
02:00where the government provides their needs such as food.
02:04OWA is also looking for Filipinos who have been left behind
02:08and are staying in tents.
02:10If we can identify where these reports are of OFWs staying in tents,
02:16we will go to them and bring them to our shelters.
02:20At the moment, DMW is still waiting for a notice from the DFA
02:24if the alert level in Lebanon can be raised to level 4.
02:28And if this happens, they are ready to implement the mandatory repatriation.
02:32We stand ready.
02:34In fact, that might have been answered already.
02:42Your question might have been answered by the President's directives yesterday.
02:46So the President has heightened our engagement
02:50in terms of safely repatriating our OFWs out of Lebanon.
02:55So that would accommodate any situation.
